The train wove its way through the countryside, a sleek futuristic anomaly against the rolling green fields of the English countryside. The new maglev technology allowed the train to glide silently and gently without the noise and rough movement of its predecessors. The carriages were crowded with people travelling into London to enjoy the post Christmas sales. Outside the snow had just started falling again.

As it approached a curve in the track, an explosion came from the side of the front carriage. It was small but devastating enough to make the train lose its connection with the magnetic rails which started a catastrophic domino effect. The drivers cab and front carriage tore free of the rails and rolled down the embankment at the side of the track dragging the other carriages with it. It lay there like a broken creature, its sleek wide hide full of gashes and splattered with brown mud.

Screams and shouts echoed from the carriages, inside the lights had failed. People pushed and shoved, forcing their way forward towards the exit sign which glowed a ghostly green in the dim light. As they collided with the doors and slammed the emergency override button, they were greeted with a silence. Nothing happened. The doors failed to respond and the hysteria in the carriage rose as the passengers realised something was well and truly wrong.

Starting at the drivers cab a series of explosions ripped through the train, engulfing each carriage in a blanket of flames. The screams rose in panic, before falling into an eerie silence. In minutes there were no sounds except the gentle crackling of flames and the hissing of steam released by the melting snow.
