Lincoln vs. Brassius

Lincoln and Clyde enter Artazon and look around at the town; seeing a Pokemon Center, they go over and give the nurse their Pokemon to be treated.

"So, what should we do now?" asked Clyde.

"Well, I can't challenge the gym leader here until I get my Pokemon treated." said Lincoln. "Wanna look around the city?"

"Sure, it'll pass the time." said Clyde. The two start to explore Artazon to see what it had to offer. They look around at the stores and restaurants they found there; they also notice a large platform at the center of the city with a large windmill at the top of it; they also notice that it was also surrounded by many sculptures.

"Wow, this place puts the 'art' in Artazon." said Lincoln as he observes a sculpture called 'Surrendering Sunflora'.

"Yeah, these sculptures are amazing." said Clyde. The two then continue their tour, noticing more sculptures and statues, a pool, a playground, as well as taking the time to explore a hedge maze that was there as well.

As they looked around town some more, Lincoln sees and recognizes a man with long blonde hair, wearing a green jacket over a black and red sweater vest that was over a white dress shirt and red tie, along with gray pants, and black and red shoes; he was the Naranja Academy's art teacher.

"Mr. Hassel?" Lincoln says to the man now known as Mr. Hassel, getting his attention.

"Lincoln, Clyde; how are you two doing today?" asked Mr. Hassel.

"We're doing great, Mr. Hassel." said Clyde.

"What brings you two to Artazon?" asked Mr. Hassel.

"We're working on our Treasure Hunt assignment." said Clyde.

"I plan on challenging the Artazon gym leader." said Lincoln. "But my Pokemon are being treated at the Pokemon Center right now, so we're just looking around this city in the meantime." Mr. Hassel smiles at Lincoln, then looks back at a statue.

"I know the person who made these statues." said Mr. Hassel. "His name is Brassius; he's a friend of mine. At the time he made these he was deathly ill."

"Really?" asked Lincoln with sadness in his voice.

"Yes." replied Mr. Hassel. "He had given up all hope, and was ready to give up being an artist if these sculptures didn't gain recognition. I've always been there to encourage him, which was what gave Brassius the strength to start making these in the first place."

"Well, how is he now?" asked Clyde.

"He's doing better." said Mr. Hassel. "His sculptures have become well known throughout Paldea; art connoisseurs come from all over to see and debate about them."

Mr. Hassel then leads the boys around the city and shows them another assortment of sculptures by Brassius that looked like circles with bulbs on them that are sitting on top of spires called 'The Harvest'.

After looking at several more sculptures, the three have lunch together.

"Those sculptures Brassius made are amazing." said Lincoln.

"You'd be interested to know that in addition to being an artist; he's also the Artazon gym leader." said Mr. Hassel.

"Really?" replied Lincoln. "And I assume by the theme for his artwork, he specializes in grass type Pokemon."

"Very good attention to detail, Lincoln." said Mr. Hassel. "You've always been one of my best students in art class."

"Remember when you made that painting of that Charizard?" asked Clyde.

"I was astounded by the detail and realism of it." said Mr. Hassel. "It almost looked like it could come to life."

"Maybe you can be an artist in addition to being a Pokemon trainer." suggested Clyde.

"That sounds like an idea." said Lincoln. After they all ate, Mr. Hassel went off to look around at more sculptures, leaving Lincoln and Clyde to themselves.

"Want to go see if our Pokemon are done being treated?" asked Lincoln.

"Sure, let's go." said Clyde. The two head back to the Pokemon Center where the nurse there tells them that their Pokemon are back to full health. After they got their Pokemon back, they start walking to the Pokemon League building. On the way there, Lincoln decides to call his family. After calling his family's number on his Rotom Phone, Lynn Sr answered, showing Lincoln's family and friends in the Louds' living room.

"Hi, everyone." said Lincoln.

"Hello, son; how are things in Paldea?" asked Lynn Sr. Lincoln saw the rest of his family, as well as the rest of his friends with him.

"Great; I'm in Artazon right now." replied Lincoln. He points his Rotom Phone around the town so his friends and family can see.

"Wow; there's literally a lot of artwork around them." said Lori.

"Certainly does appear to be a place of culture." said Harold McBride.

"Yeah, the person who made all the sculptures is also the Artazon gym leader." said Lincoln.

"Really?" replied Lana.

"I'm on my way to do the Pokemon League building to do the Gym Test." said Lincoln.

"What do you think it's like?" asked Liam.

"Don't know; I'll find out when I get to the Pokemon League building." replied Lincoln. The two soon reach it and head into the lobby and walk over to the reception desk.

"Hello, young man." said the receptionist.

"Hi, I'm here to challenge the gym leader." said Lincoln.

"Very well, I'll need your information to put into the computer." said the receptionist. After Lincoln gives her the information that she requested, it's put into the terminal.

"So, what's my Gym Test?" asked Lincoln.

"You'll need to play a game of Sunflora Hide-and-Seek." said the receptionist. "You'll need to head to the Sunflora Lawn and talk to the staff member there."

"Where's that at?" asked Lincoln.

"When you exit this building, head to your right and you'll find it easily enough." said the receptionist.

"Okay, thank you." said Lincoln. He and Clyde leave the lobby and head in the direction that the receptionist told them to and they quickly arrive at a fenced-in area with a house in it; near the gate leading inside was the staff member they were told about.

"Hello, is one of you Lincoln?" asked the staff member.

"I am." said Lincoln as he steps forward.

"As you know, you'll be playing Sunflora Hide-and-Seek." said the staff member. "We'll have ten Sunfloras hide all around Artazon; if you manage to find them all and bring them back here, then you pass the Gym Test."

"Got it." said Lincoln.

"And just so you know, Sunfloras look like sunflowers." said the staff.

"You mean like those Surrendering Sunflora sculptures that are all over the city here?" asked Lincoln.

"Exactly, but they are shorter, and not in pots." said the staff member.

"Okay, then." said Lincoln.

"I'll wait here for you to come back, buddy." said Clyde.

"Want us to help you, Lincoln?" asked Lana.

"Nah, that would be cheating if I had an extra pair of eyes helping me." said Lincoln.

"Yeah, something worse than a loser is a cheater." said Lynn Jr.

"You got that right." said Liam.

"Do your best, son." said Lynn Sr.

"And you can do this, Lincoln." said Lana. "You have plenty of experience playing hide-and-seek with me and Lola."

"Thanks, everyone." said Lincoln. He then heads into Artazon and starts looking around. A few seconds later, he spots a Pokemon that did look like a sunflower with a smily face on it; he points his Rotom Phone at it to confirm what it was.

"Sunflora, the Sun Pokemon, and the evolved form of Sunkern. In the daytime, it rushes about in a hectic manner, but it comes to a complete stop when the sun sets." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.

"Now I know exactly what they look like." said Lincoln as he runs over to the Sunflora and lightly tags it, making it start following him around. After looking around Artazon for a few more minutes, he manages to find all the other Sunflora and leads them all back to the Sunflora Lawn where the staff member counts them.

"Congratulations, Lincoln." said the staff member. "You have found all ten Sunfloras, which means you have passed the Gym Test."

"Yes!" said Lincoln as he leaps for joy.

"Great job, buddy." said Clyde.

"That looked like so much fun!" said Lana.

"I wish I was there." said Lola with a pout.

"At least Lincoln's sending Pokemon here for you to play with, honey." said Lynn Sr.

Lincoln and Clyde then return to the Pokemon League building and report Lincoln's success to the receptionist.

"Well done, Lincoln." said the receptionist. "All that remains is for you to defeat Brassius, the Verdant Virtuoso, in battle to earn your Artazon gym badge. Are you ready?"

"As ready as I'll ever be." said Lincoln. "Where do I need to go?"

"On that platform with a large windmill on it." said the receptionist.

"Okay, thank you." said Lincoln. He and Clyde leave the building and head right for the location they were given, they find a staircase leading up and climb it to the top of the platform to see a battle arena on it.

"So, where's Brassius?" asked Clyde.

"Greetings, challenger!" shouts a voice from nearby.

"Who said that?" asked Lincoln as he and Clyde looked around; when they looked up at the windmill, they see a man with green hair, wearing a red, long sleeved shirt with a yellow collar, black pants, green shoes, and a thorny vine around his waist.

"Are you Brassius?" asked Lincoln. The man jumped down from the windmill and landed a few feet from Lincoln.

"Indeed, I am." replied the man, revealed to be Brassius.

"I'm Lincoln Loud; I've passed the gym test, so now I'm here for a gym battle." said Lincoln.

"Oh, so you're the Lincoln Loud that Mr. Hassel's told me about." said Brassius.

"He's told you about me?" Lincoln replied.

"Yes, and he's shown me some of your artwork." said Brassius. "I have to admit that I was impressed by what I saw; it would be a pleasure to battle someone with a talent and taste for art."

"I plan on enjoying myself, also." said Lincoln. An official steps to the center of the battle arena.

"This will be a three-on-three battle between the gym leader, Brassius; and the challenger, Lincoln Loud. Both trainers will battle until all of one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. The trainer who defeats all their opponent's Pokemon will be the winner. Let the battle begin." said the official. As he steps off the battle arena, Lincoln has his Rotom Phone show his family and friends back in Royal Woods the battle.

"Do your best, Linky!" said Leni.

"Show him what you can do!" said Lynn Jr.

Lincoln and Brassius each pull a pokeball off their belts; Lincoln throws his, releasing his Charcadet, and Brassius throws his, releasing a Sunflora.

"Okay, Charcadet; use Ember!" said Lincoln. Charcadet releases small bits of fire from the holes on his face mask that hit the Sunflora, doing super effective damage.

"Sunflora, use Rain Dance!" said Brassius. His Sunflora begins dancing around, causing dark clouds to form above the platform that start releasing rain from them. "Now your Charcadet's fire moves are weakened."

"It's amazing how Pokemon have the ability to change the weather freely like that." said Lisa.

"Yeah, but that doesn't help Lincoln's Charcadet." said Lori.

"A little rain isn't going to stop us!" said Lincoln. "Charcadet, use Clear Smog!" Charcadet releases a blast of clear smoke from his mask holes which hit Sunflora, doing super effective damage.

"Sunflora, use Mega Drain!" said Brassius. A stream of green energy comes out of Sunflora's leaf arms that hits Charcadet, draining him of a bit of stamina which is used to heal Sunflora a little.

"Charcadet, hit it with one more Ember!" said Lincoln. Charcadet releases more bits of fire from his face mask, and even though they were weakened by the rain, they still did enough damage to knock it out.

"Sunflora is unable to battle. Charcadet is the winner." said the official.

"Yes! Way to go, Charcadet!" said Lincoln. Charcadet raises his arms in victory.

"Keep it up, Lincoln!" said Lori. Brassius returns his Sunflora to its pokeball.

"You fought valiantly, Sunflora." said Brassius. He then puts Sunflora's pokeball away and pulls another one off his belt; he throws it, releasing a humanoid Pokemon with a large orange flower on its head that has a crown on the top of it, leaves hanging down the back and sides of its head like hair, yellow flower petals around its neck, long leaves for arms, leaves going down from its waist resembling a dress, and yellow feet.

"What's that Pokemon?" asked Lincoln as he grabs his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.

"Lilligant, the Flowering Pokemon, and the evolved form of Petilil. The fragrance of the garland on its head has a relaxing effect, but taking care of it is very difficult." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.

"It's...beautiful." said Lola with awe in her voice.

"Totes!" said Leni.

"Even though that's literally true, Lincoln still has to battle it." said Lori.

"Maybe Lincoln can find one for you two?" suggested Lynn Sr.

"Linky! Find one of those Pokemon for us!" said Leni.

"First things first." said Lincoln.

"Lillilgant, use Sleep Powder!" said Brassius. Lilligant releases blue pollen from her body which drifts into Charcadet's face, causing him to fall asleep.

"Charcadet, wake up and use Ember!" said Lincoln, but his Pokemon remained asleep.

"Lilligant, use Sunny Day!" said Brassius. Lilligant shoots a beam of light out of the flower on its head into the rain clouds above them, causing them to break apart, and shines intense sunlight onto the battle arena.

"Why did you get rid of the rain?" asked Lincoln. "If Charcadet wakes up before you can beat him, then this sunlight will give him an edge.

"That's why I plan to take him down before he does." said Brassius. "You see, Lilligant has the Chlorophyll ability, which boosts her speed when it's very sunny outside."

"Charcadet, use Fire Spin!" said Lincoln, but Charcadet was still asleep.

"Lilligant, use Leaf Storm!" said Brassius. Lilligant releases a barrage of leaves at Charcadet that circle around him, hitting him several times.

"Charcadet! Please wake up and use Fire Spin!" said Lincoln. Charcadet's eyes suddenly shoot open and he releases a blast of fire that circles Lilligant that spirals around it, trapping it in a vortex of flame, as well as doing a lot of damage, thanks to Sunny Day, and the Charcoal that he was holding.

"Lilligant, use Petal Blizzard!" said Brassius. Lilligant releases a barrage of petals that manage to make it through the fire surrounding it and hit Charcadet, knocking him out. Just then, Lilligant takes more damage from the Fire Spin, also knocking it out.

"Both Charcadet and Lilligant are unable to battle. It's a double knockout." said the official.

"Poor Charcadet and Lilligant." said Leni.

"It was still a great battle." said Lynn Jr.

"At least Lincoln still has more Pokemon than Brassius." said Ronnie Anne.

"Bro's still got a chance to win." said Luna.

Back at the battle arena, Lincoln was holding Charcadet in his arms.

"You were amazing, Charcadet." said Lincoln. Charcadet weakly opens his eyes and holds out an arm, making Lincoln grip it, showing his respect for his Pokemon.

"The way you show your Pokemon compassion and respect is proof that you truly care for them." said Brassius before he returns his Lilligant to her pokeball.

"My Pokemon are not just allies to me, they're my friends." said Lincoln before he returns his Charcadet to his pokeball. Both trainers put their pokeballs away, and Lincoln pulls another one off his belt, while Brassius pulls his last one off of his. Both throw them at the same time, with Tinkatink coming out of Lincoln's pokeball, and a brown, treelike Pokemon with green spheres on the end of its branch arms comes out of Brassius's.

"What's that?" asked Clyde as he points his Rotom Phone at Brassius's Pokemon.

"Sudowoodo, the Imitation Pokemon, and the evolved form of Bonsly. Although it always pretends to be a tree, its composition appears more similar to rock than to vegetation." said Clyde's Rotom Phone.

"I don't get it." said Lincoln. "Sudowoodo may look like a tree, but it's not a grass type...unless..." Brassius reaches into his jacket and pulls out a Tera Orb.

"He's got a Tera Orb, Lincoln!" said Clyde. Brassius throws his Tera Orb over his Sudowoodo, making crystal pillars rise up from the floor around him; they then shatter, showing Sudowoodo's body crystallized with crystal sunflowers on its head.

"As you can see, Sudowoodo's Tera Type is grass." said Brassius.

"Well, that doesn't matter to us." said Lincoln. "Tinkatink, use Sweet Kiss!" Tinkatink runs over to the Sudowoodo and gives it a soft kiss on its cheek, making it blush, and stumble around.

"That's so cute!" said Leni.

"Sudowoodo must've liked it because it's acting all goofy." said Luan.

"Actually, Sweet Kiss causes the Pokemon it's used on to be confused." said Clyde.

"Sudowoodo, use Fire Punch!" said Brassius. Sudowoodo's right appendage end becomes coated in fire; it manages to fight through its confusion and punches Tinkatink, causing super effective damage.

"Be careful, Lincoln!" said Clyde. Lincoln takes out his Tera Orb, surprising Brassius.

"So, you have one also?" asked Brassius.

"Yeah." said Lincoln. "I honestly don't know what Tinkatink's Tera Type is, but there's only one way to find out." He then throws his Tera Orb over Tinkatink, making crystal pillars appear around her; they then shatter, showing Tinkatink with a crystallized body, and on her head was a crystal heart with a bow under it.

"That's so beautiful!" said Lola.

"That's good." said Lincoln. "Tinkatink's Tera Type is fairy, this makes it so at least she won't be affected as badly by fire now."

"An excellent way to reduce the damage to her by fire." said Brassius.

"Tinkatink, use Draining Kiss!" said Lincoln. The crystal heart on Tinkatink's head surges with energy as she runs over to Sudowoodo gives it another kiss, this time draining it of stamina that's used to heal herself.

"Sudowoodo, use Trailblaze!" said Brassius. Sudowoodo manages to once agan fight through confusion as it quickly moves towards Tinkatink while grass comes out of it and slams into her; it's feet suddenly start moving around really quickly. "Trailblaze increases the speed of the Pokemon that uses it."

"Tinkatink, use Metal Claw!" said Lincoln. Tinkatink runs at Sudowoodo and slashes it with her hammer; a surge of energy rises up from her. "Metal Claw has increased Tinkatink's attack strength."

"Sudowoodo, use Wood Hammer!" said Brassius. Sudowoodo brings up its right appendage and prepares to strike Tinkatink, but this time confusion kicks in and it strikes itself in the head.

"Lincoln, now's your chance!" said Clyde.

"Tinkatink, one more Draining Kiss!" said Lincoln. The heart on Tinkatink's head surges with energy once more as she runs to Sudowoodo and gives it another stamina-draining kiss, which takes away the last of Sudowoodo's strength, causing its Tera Form to shatter, and knock it out.

"Sudowoodo is unable to battle. Tinkatink is the winner. The winner of the match is the challenger, Lincoln Loud." said the official.

"You did it, buddy!" said Clyde.

"Lincoln won!" said Lori.

"That was amazing!" said Lana.

"I'm glad Lincoln won." said Lucy from next to her family, startling them. After Tinkatink's Tera Form shatters, Lincoln runs over and hugs her.

"You were awesome, Tinkatink!" said Lincoln. Tinkatink lets out a sigh of relief before she freezes up.

"What's wrong with her?" asked Rita. Suddenly, Tinkatink starts to glow.

"Tinkatink's evolving!" said Clyde. Lincoln lets go and watches as Tinkatink starts to change before everyone's eyes.

"So this is Pokemon Evolution?" asked Lisa. When Tinkatink was done changing, she was bigger, her ponytail was longer and thicker, the diamond-shaped gem on her torso was gone, and her hammer was a LOT bigger. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at his newly evolved Pokemon.

"Tinkatuff, the Hammer Pokemon, and the evolved form of Tinkatink. This Pokémon will attack groups of Pawniard and Bisharp, gathering metal from them in order to create a large and sturdy hammer." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.

"That is so cool!" said Lincoln. "And this says that Tinkatuff knows Brutal Swing now."

"Pokemon Evolution is so fascinating!" said Lisa.

"Way to go, Tinkatuff!" said Luna. Brassius returns his Sudowoodo to its pokeball.

"You fought well, Sudowoodo." said Brassius. After he puts Sudowoodo's pokeball back onto his belt, he walks over to Lincoln. "That was an excellent match, Lincoln."

"Thanks, I enjoyed it myself also." said Lincoln.

"The way you used your moves, along with your battling style was truly a sight to behold." said Brassius. "In fact, I feel inspired to do another sculpture."

"I hope to see it soon." said Lincoln. Brassius reaches into his jacket and pulls out a gym badge that had a design looking like blades of grass on it. "As proof of your victory, I present you with the Grass Badge."

"Thanks." said Lincoln as he accepts the badge, along with the pokedollars that Brassius also had in his hands.

"Good job, bro!" said Lynn Jr.

"Now then, would you join me for a photo?" asked Brassius.

"It would be an honor, sir." said Lincoln. He and Brassius take a picture of themselves in front of the windmill while each of them does a pose.

Lincoln has just won his second gym badge and has moved one step closer to entering the Paldea League. What other challenges await him and Clyde as their Treasure Hunt continues?
