Loss wasn't a possibility. Mike never even considered it, there being too much on his shoulders. Sara Louisa, AJ, Maryse, Heath, Monroe Skye and their unborn child. Not to mention his father's respect, also. He's determined to see it through, to not let any of the people most important to him down. Especially with their secret hanging over his head, waiting to come crashing down around him.
So when it's time, when he makes his entrance at Wrestlemania, he glowers at Shane coldly, wondering how and why things so quickly fell apart for them. He'd legitimately liked this man barely even two months ago, but now... now he wants to end him, leave him begging for mercy on the ground. They fight brutally, Mike with the upperhand for awhile, until Shane fights him off and leaves him sprawled on a commentary desk, climbing up to elbow him, when George leaves the crowd and gets between them. He tries to fight Shane then, but he has no training, and Shane quickly drops him. Mike had just crawled out of the wreckage of the table in time to see it, how his father had crumbled, and this awakens something ugly and feral within him.
They fight around the arena, through the crowd, and up a tall frighteningly tall camera platform. Mike's casting around for something, ANYTHING to put Shane away... and finally comes to a decision, standing on the edge and hoisting Shane up, swivling his hips just enough to superplex him down. He thinks he blacks out on the way down, or maybe at the impact, he doesn't remember... but when he comes to, Shane is being tended to a few feet away and the crowd is buzzing. "Wha- what happened?" he asks and a couple members of the staff tending to him lean closer. "What- what happened?"
"You superplexed Shane off of that platform up there," a woman explains tensely. "You... he won."
That's all of the answer Mike needed, his face falling as he stares up at the bright lights flickering overhead, barely noticing how they're easing him out of the rubble that they'd crashed into. He hurts from head to toe, but the awareness that he'd lost opens up something awful for all of them- Shane knows, and now... nothing will keep him from telling the world.
Mike usually isn't one for panic attacks and anxiety, but he starts gasping for air, not sure what to do to regain control of himself, his exhales painful and raspy until finally he hears a familiar voice and follows it, blinking his eyes open uncomfortably to find AJ leaning over him, a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Breathe in and out, there you go," she says softly until he's gotten more control of himself.
Immediately he grips her, hugging her tightly. "I'm so sorry," he groans. "I'm so damn sorry. I ruined everything, I sacrificed so much because I was so sure I was going to win tonight..." He scrubs at his face and sniffs. "I'm so damn sorry."
AJ cups his face and stares gently into his eyes. "We'll make this work," she murmurs gently. "No matter what happens, we will be ok. I promise you. I'm not mad."
"Maybe you should be," he mumbles.
"Maybe," she hedges. "But I'm not." She helps the staff get Mike up, out of the collapsed thing they had falle into, and as soon as he's on his own two feet again, she hugs him tightly. "We're going to be just fine. I promise, Mike."
He kisses the top of her head before allowing himself to be turned around and guided towards the trainer's office. "How can you be so sure?" he asks her after a few, tense moments spent in silence.
She smiles, a little. "Because. No matter how bad things tend to look, they always work out in the end." She laces her fingers with his and looks away, a distracted look on her face.
"AJ?" he asks softly. "Are you alright?"
Her attention returns to him and she smiles. "Oh yeah, I'm fine. I was just... considering when to tell you something. I mean, it was always going to be tonight but now, I think maybe it's not the best of times to do so."
Mike's jaw works and he shakes his head, almost afraid of what she could have to say. Divorce? She's moving out and taking Sara with her? What? "Please, just tell me, sweetheart." He's expecting any number of bad things from her, so he's confused when she simply shifts his hand in hers, shaking his head slowly, until he realizes she's pressing his palm into her stomach, the soft roundness under his fingers reminding him of the early days of when they were waiting for Sara Louisa to join them. "Wha..."
She smiles, slightly. "I'm pregnant."
All he can do is gape at her as another truckload of bricks is laid onto the weight against his shoulders as he waits for Shane to make his move, deciding not to give him anymore ammunition and returning home to Ohio with his family to make sure his father is ok, taking care of AJ as she leans against him, that Tuesday, trying to ignore the sick feeling she kind of remembers from morning sickness with Sara.
Shane comes to the ring, but says nothing of significance about Mike or his secret, and Miz breathes a little easier, but he's sure that Shane would rather do it when he could look Mike in the eye, revealing everything for the world to know, and ruining everything for Mike in a few words. He shakes his head, determined. "C'mon, Mike, you're smart," he mumbles. "And you have a week to figure out a way out of this that'll protect everyone... Now think."
