"I have never been so embarrassed in my whole life," Mike declares, staring up at the ceiling from his place sprawled out over their bed. He glances over when AJ leans over him, quirking an eyebrow meaningfully. "Ok, ok, that's probably not true," he grumbles. "But still! The fact that they would say such hurtful things."
AJ scoffs and pinches him, making him yelp and twist away. "You'd better have been lying when you said you got into crypto, sir. We have two children to think about, wiht college funds to plan for."
"I didn't, I swear," Mike says, slowly rolling back to within range of her hands. "Also didn't want to tell JBL that I just don't usually keep that kind of money on hand either though. For all I know, he let the others in on credit and was just screwing with me because of our past."
"That could be," AJ muses, nuzzling into him as she settles in to sleep for the night. "Don't let it bother you, you're just as well off not playing poker than not. You wouldn't really want to share a table with Lumis and Gargano, would you?"
"No, of course not," Mike mumbles. "But still..." Before he can formulate a proper thought about his feelings regarding everything that had happened on Monday- his not getting booked, the disrespect from JBL, all of it- he feels her breathing steadily against his chest and looks down to find her peacefully, deeply asleep. "Alright," he murmurs. "I guess it really isn't that big of a deal. Next week will be a fresh start. It'll all be ok." He strokes her hair out of her eyes and lightly kisses her forehead. "See you in the morning, sweetheart."
