Mike hums under his breath, staring out at the rain drizzling slowly down the window. He exhales and rubs at his arms, grimacing. "This weather," he mumbles, tapping his fingertips against the window pane.
He glances down at hearing familiar footsteps approaching and smiles faintly when he sees Sara walk up to him, little fingers curling around his slacks. "Daddy," she says quietly.
"Yeah, Sara?" he murmurs, kneeling down to wrap an arm around her. "What's up, little one?"
"Will it ever stop raining?" she asks, staring up at him with hopeful eyes.
He chuckles a little, squeezing her. "Yeah, honey. Maybe not today, but soon." She pouts and he pulls her even closer. "We've gotten a little spoiled with the nice weather California usually gives us, huh?"
Sara hums. "I'd like to play in the sun."
"So would I," Mike admits. "We will some day. But for now, I think I have an idea."
Sara's eyes brighten. "Yeah? Like what?"
Mike winks at her and stands up. "I'll be right back," he promises, heading down the hall.
A couple of hours later, AJ returns with George, humming happily. "You get to choose supper tonight, your dentist appointment went so well," she told him. "But first, let's go find your father and sister."
They don't have to look far as they nearly step onto Mike's ankle as soon as they walk into the living room, AJ faltering as she takes in the scene in front of her. "Oh," she says.
Mike stares at her, a little tea cup held daintily in one hand. "What?" he asks, adjusting the hat Sara had made him wear. "You see something weird?"
AJ shrugs. "You having fun down there, husband?"
Mike glances over at Sara as she chews on a finger sandwich, then chuckles. "Yeah, AJ. I am."
She smiles down at him, then lightly nudges George. "Let's go get cups of our own and join them, huh?"
"That's not my supper choice, is it?" George asks as AJ leads him to the kitchen.
"No," AJ says, muffled through the wall.
Mike smiles at Sara and takes another sip of his tea while listening to the rain against the roof. Hosting Wrestlemania is one thing, but he's pretty sure this moment will be the highlight of the month for him.
