BREAKING THE FANTASY
Written by Gwendolyn Frost.
It's been a few days since Luz and her friends have ventured themselves into the depths of Herlock Woods seeking for answers that would bring them back to the Boiling Isles. Unsuccessful in their mission, they instead found a cursed mirror in the Morton Ranch that reflects no living things that could potentially be the work of a witch.
That morning, Luz took out the trash and as she opened the lid, she got a rush of nostalgia that brought back the memory of her following Owlbert into the shack last year. She had thrown her book of Azura in the trash because of a conversation with her mom. Moments later, she instantly regretted her doing so and once she tried to get her book back… the palisman had already taken it. A chase later deep into the forest, she found herself in the world of witches, a time that she misses so much.
Placing the lid back on the trash, she stared towards the direction where she chased Owlbert over to the shack while a light breeze brushed her from the east. Without thinking, she felt obliged to follow that trail to reignite those memories from the past, her legs were moving as if the woods had put her under a spell that she was unable to shake off. There were no other thoughts in her mind other than the experiences she lived through whilst she lived in the Owl House.
Each step was a different memory flashing through her very eyes, from the moment she first stepped into the House, to meeting Willow in the middle of the forest, befriending Amity in the library, sharing that dance with her while fighting Grom, Eda fighting her own sister Lilith for Luz's sake, destroying the door so that Bellos wouldn't use it, infiltrating Bellos' mind with Hunter which marked the day that he officially joined their team and lastly… King sacrificing himself so that she and her friends would be safe in the Human Realm.
When Luz had reached the shack, her cheeks were downpouring a short rain of tears. The memories had vanished and she found herself all alone in the outskirts of Herlock Woods. She kneeled down in front of the shack, silently unleashing all those repressed emotions she has been holding from the day that they became stranded in the Human Realm.
A few days ago, she was unable to share with anyone how devastated she felt when she found out that the Looking Glass wasn't the door she was hoping for. Now they are all back where they've started. Without a way back to their loved ones.
For a brief moment she felt guilty, remembering her mom asking her to promise her to come back to her. And now… she wanted nothing else but to get out of the Human Realm.
The rustling of some leaves brought Luz back into reality, the young girl instantly looked towards the direction in which she heard the noise only to find… a deer. Standing there behind some trees.
"Goodness, you scared me." Luz said while quickly wiping those tears off her face.
The deer did not reply to her, of course. It simply tilted its head. Looking at her with its curious dark eyes.
When Luz got back up to her feet, she eyed the deer more closely with a smile. "You are not the same deer from the other day, right?"
But once more, head-tilting is all she got back in response. Moments later, the deer began to make some off movements with its head, it almost looked as if it was inviting Luz to follow it.
"Huh?" Luz found the behavior a little strange.
The deer tilted its head once more when hearing the confusion in Luz's voice. The human girl took a step back… and the deer took one step forward. It made those head-movements once more before it turned to the side while its head was still fixed upon Luz's way.
If Luz had been younger, her curiosity would have brought her to follow that deer, but for some reason… a primal instinctive feeling was telling her not to. Especially when the deer walked closer and a reddish line on its back she couldn't see during the night before came into view.
Suddenly, a hooting made the deer turn back and run off deep into the forest. Luz was startled by the loud hooting of a white owl perched on a branch a few feet from her. This Owl had purple eyes and while most of its feathers were porcelain white, there were a few with the same hue of purple as its eyes. The Owl gyrates its head towards the trail that would bring Luz back home as if telling her she should leave.
"I'm not sure… if Amity's Oracle Magic is rubbing off on me… but you don't have to tell me twice." Luz said with a nervous laugh before taking off towards her home without another word.
The short sprint made Luz a little agitated as she reached her street before realizing that her mom was standing there outside of her house with her arms crossed.
"Mija, what're you doing? You're supposed to bring Amity to her thing in the library. You're running late. Cambiate ya!"
"Oh, right!" Luz gulped and nervously ran back into the house to get changed, forgetting to say a word about what just happened a moment later in Herlock Woods.
THE LOOKING GLASS
Chapter 10: A job offer.
The library found itself in a bit of a disturbance when the kids' section got a bit more crowded with more young ones than usual. Shushing was not effective, it got lost in the sea of sounds that these children were pouring in the enclosed space. The librarian -Miss Grimm- was calming down some of the people that were complaining about the noise when finally Luz and Amity showed up at the scene.
"Oh thank goodness, you're here." Miss Grimm said when the two of them came in panting after sprinting through several streets to get there.
"So sorry for being a few minutes late." Amity said while regaining her breath. "Are people still here?"
"Of course." Miss Grimm replied before she remembered something. "Oh, right. I gotta tell you beforehand that Doctor Craig wasn't able to come because she is busy with her private practice work. But she sent her two workers instead. Oh, there's also a number of kids from their Daycare alongside their parents waiting for you there as well. So, I'm hoping that once you get to read for them that you're able to get all this… under control?" The short woman said with a bit of a nervous tone in her voice.
"Oh, leave it to me." Amity said with a confident wink. "I don't mean to brag, but I've done this multiple times."
"Been there, I can back up those statements!" Luz said as she joined her girlfriend in the lobby before Miss Grimm began leading them to the kids' section.
"Well that is reassuring. This way, they're all waiting for you." The woman with the huge headphones said as the couple walked closed-by.
"You ready?" Luz asked with a smile.
"Oh, Luz. That job is as good as mine." Amity said with a confident look on her face, almost smuggish even.
"Wow, you're quite assertive today. That is so… attractive I must say!" Luz said with a bit of a blush.
Amity for once didn't blushed like a tomato like she used to when Luz would praise her like this. "Oh, is it? Well, that's good to know. I'll be sure to show this side of me more often." She winks and laughs softly with Luz.
Once they walked into the kids' section, Luz watched as Amity's confidence crumbled down in an instant when the pink haired witch quickly hid behind one of the book shelfs with a grim look on her face.
"Whoa, hey! What's going on? What happened?" Luz asked as she looked at the pale Amity hiding from the crowd. Miss Grimm by this point heard Luz and looked at Amity just as puzzled.
The young witch looked up at Miss Grimm and asked her in a whisper. "Is… that blonde girl sitting there one of the workers?"
The librarian tilted her head before she moved her closed eyes to look at the people sitting on the chairs in the children's section. There were a bunch of grown ups mostly, with kids running around being noisy, but two people in particular stood out being not from either age group. These two looked a year or two older than Luz and Amity, highschool kids. One of them was a dark skinned girl with large curly hair wearing a stylish pink tank-top with black denim skirt and boots to match. The other one… the blonde that Amity pointed out was the same girl that she ran into at the arcade that week. Except she was wearing a more tomboyish attire than the day they met. Green jacket, with a long tee with japanese symbols, white sneakers and washed-up jeans.
"Yeah." Miss Grimm replied, fixing her glasses upwards before facing Amity. "That is Jolene and the girl sitting next to her is Aisha, they worked here with me the year before summer. They're good kids."
Amity sunk her head on the book she was holding, which made Luz a bit worried.
"You know them?"
"Yeah, I think the blonde one is friends with Willow." Amity said while her face was still buried in that book.
"Wait, what?! Willow has a human friend?!" Luz blurted out which she instantly regretted, looking back at the confused looking librarian to make up a lie. "Our friend Willow… she is… she's a bit of a nature lover, hence why I was so surprised she… well that she is talking to other humans. Because she is human!"
"Luz!" Amity exclaimed in a low-whisper. "I'm in the middle of freaking out right now. Can we move on from Willow and focus back on me?!"
"Oh, sorry!" Luz said with a soft chuckle while Miss Grimm asked next.
"Why are you so nervous all of a sudden? What difference does it make that you're sitting in front of this particular person?"
Both Luz and Miss Grimm watched as Amity's whole face was burning red before she was able to answer the question. "I crashed onto her. Gus blinded me with his camera and I crashed onto her last time we were at the arcade."
Luz raised an eyebrow. "That's it? Wait… did she pick a fight with you?"
"No!" Amity exclaimed in a whisper again.
"Did you apologize…?" Miss Grimm asked.
"Yeah…"
"Then what's the problem? What did she tell you that got you like this?" Luz asked.
Amity puffed her cheeks slightly while avoiding looking at them, her blushing subsiding for the most part. "Nothing… but it was so awkward! What if she is secretly holding a grudge and that influences her perception of me! That I'm too clumsy, so awkward, so not suitable for the job!"
"Did you not listened when I said 'they are good kids?'" Miss Grimm said. "That won't happen, I assure you, these two are not like that!"
"Yeah, Amity." Luz said while kneeling down to talk some sense to her girlfriend sitting down on the floor. "This is unlike you. You've done this so many times before. This is nothing. I've never known you for being a quitter. You could have picked any book to read, yet you chose to write what you're holding on your own. You always give your best even when no one asks you to. Are you really going to let all that work go to waste just because of one awkward encounter?"
Amity sighed and looked at her girlfriend with a small smile. "Yeah… you're right. I gotta try at least."
"That's the Amity I know." Luz grinned before holding her hand out for Amity to take for the both of them to get back up to their feet.
The three walked into the kids' section before the blonde girl and Amity's eyes met for a brief moment. For a short second, Jolene -the blonde- didn't recognize her at first but soon she looked back at the pink-haired witch with puzzled eyes before a smile drew itself on her face. Jolene waved at Amity now fully aware of who she was before the girl sitting next to her -Aisha- asked something which Amity could read on her lips 'You know her?' Jolene then held her hand close to her mouth and whispered something to Aisha who then pulled away to give her blonde friend a grin before asking 'for real?' which Amity could read on her lips as well. The two shared a soft giggling session which made Amity blush and look away.
"Hey." Luz said with a tender tone in her voice while holding Amity by the shoulders. "Forget about them. Pretend they're not there. You are here to read a story for those kids. C'mon, show them a good time."
Amity smiled and cracked a small smile. "I'll try."
"Remember you're not alone, I'm here for support. We can do this together!" Luz said with an excited look on her face, reminding Amity of that time they were in Willow's mind saying the exact same thing.
"Hehe… yeah."
"Say it." Luz shook Amity a bit.
Gigging, Amity said. "We can do this together…" In a whisper.
"Louder!" Luz exclaimed.
"Luz, I'm not screaming in the library." Amity said with a sigh.
"Oh, right. Sorry." Luz said with a nervous chuckle.
"But thanks." Amity whispered while smiling.
Luz smiled back while nodding. "You are welcome. Break a leg."
"What?" Amity asked in confusion.
"Oh… that's human for I wish you good luck." Luz said while rubbing the back of her head.
Amity burst out in a soft laughter. "Your world… is so interesting. I'm really looking forward to getting to know this place a little better."
Luz forced herself to smile but there was a hint of sorrow in her eyes when she replied "Yeah… it is." As eager as Luz was for her to bring Amity and her friends to her world, she felt this wasn't the way things should have gone. This was forced upon them by The Collector and now… she wondered if she would be able to go back to see Eda.
"Ok, here it goes." Amity said while exhaling with the book close to her chest before she walked up to the center of the kids' section where there was a chair ready for her.
Clearing her throat, Amity stood in front of the noisy crowd of children while their parents were trying to get them to sit down once they realized that the reading was about to begin.
The two daycare workers -Aisha and Jolene- were sitting a few rows behind right in the middle while they observed Amity handling the situation. They weren't actively helping the parents, so Amity figured it out that this… was a test.
The pink-haired witch put down her book on the chair for the time being. She didn't need it at the moment. Back in Bonesborough, she learned a few tricks on her own when it came to handling witches younger than herself. Perhaps… humans aren't so different, right? She thought to herself.
Soon after, Amity kneeled down to the kids' eye-level and while a bunch of them were running around in the rows of chairs in circles, she caught the sight of who was leading the ruckus. Some kid with short blonde hair wearing a t-shirt of what she could recognize as Azura the Good Witch but in a different style than the books. She knew of the show they made after it, all thanks to now living the Human Realm.
So, when those kids ran past her and around the rows of chairs. She moved to kneel down a few steps further so that when those kids would be back she would be on their way which forced them to stop instantly. "I like your shirt." Amity said as she pointed at the kids' clothes.
"Uh… thanks." The young kid said in confusion while the rest of their gang looked over their shoulder.
For the first time in half an hour, the library seemed as quiet as it should be. The parents were only gathering the few other children that went astray from the group now standing in front of Amity.
"So, you like Good Witch Azura, huh? Why?" Amity asked while still kneeling down in front of the group as the blonde kid responded to her question somewhat shyly.
"W-well, she is cool… I like her."
"Yeah, she can do spells that go woosploosh!" Another kid behind the blonde one joined the conversation.
"I like Hecate better!" A different one with twin-tails said next to the blonde one.
"Is that so?" Amity giggled. "So you guys like magic?"
"YEAH!" A handful of them said in unison which made Amity to chuckle some more.
"That's awesome." The pink haired witch said. "You know what spell is my favorite? It's…"
From this point onward, Amity had the full attention of this group of children. Luz was observing her with a wide smile on her face as flashbacks of Amity back in Bonesborough's library interacting with the younger witches flashed before her eyes.
But not only were the children completely fixated on Amity, but so were the workers sitting a few rows from them. She would have expected high school kids to be disinterested in being there, but Aisha and Jolene were just as captivated by Amity's great expertise. Aisha held her phone up high which Luz could tell was for recording a video or perhaps streaming the whole thing happening before their eyes for someone in particular; which she could only guess was their boss who was not present. Both girls seemed to be speaking with smiles, which Luz could hope were good things about Amity.
"She is something, isn't she?" Miss Grimm's voice brought Luz back into reality when she heard the question aimed at her.
Luz looked at the woman who was an inch shorter than she was and smiled with a nod. "Yeah, it's been a while since I've seen her this happy." Luz said with some guilt in her voice, thinking of what Amity left behind and that they're aiming to get back to.
By this time, the kids were no longer standing in front of Amity but gathered around her as she engaged in a longer conversation with them. Getting to know them on a personal level while she was still kneeling down on the floor with the biggest smile that Luz has seen on her since they left the Boiling Isles.
"That is so cool! Oh…" Amity said before she found the perfect time to introduce herself once she had this group of kids' undivided attention. "I think I started with the wrong foot. I don't think I've introduced myself yet, I am Amity. I like magic too and I love anything that involves Azura the Good Witch. I'd like to get to know all of you, if that's ok?" The pink-haired witch said while she gave them a puzzled look on her face. "Would you share me your names?"
One by one, the young ones started introducing themselves.
"I'm Regina and I love unicorns!" A girl with twintails said.
"Oh cute!" Amity replied before she looked at the next kid introducing himself.
"I'm Leo and I like soccer!" A kid with freckles said.
"Really?" Amity replied before another one got her attention.
"I'm Abby and I like drawing!" A kid with cute overalls said.
"Amazing, you got to show me one of your works sometime." Amity said while more and more kids continued introducing themselves in the same fashion.
At this time, Luz was able to see that the workers were completely sold on Amity. Aisha was grinning while still recording or streaming the whole thing with her phone, and Jolene -the blonde Amity was scared of- was speaking things to her friend Aisha while eyeing Amity, she even got to read on her lips the words:
'She's going to love her, for sure.' Which Luz assumed was referring to their boss.
"Yes." Luz said under her breath excitedly. "She's going to get the job and she hasn't even read them the story yet."
"I agree." Miss Grim said while startling Luz who forgot she was still standing next to her. "I'll go get us a couple of chairs for us to sit in." The woman with the closed eyes said as she excused herself.
"Ok, thanks." Luz said with a soft nervous chuckle before she observed her girlfriend interact with those children some more.
By the time she got to know everyone in the group, Amity was reminded of Azura once more by one of those kids. "Oh, yeah. I read all of her books."
"Books?" The one who brought the topic back into the conversation asked with a puzzled face.
"Yeah, books. Azura has tons of books."
"But I don't know how to read." A different kid who likes Azura too said.
"Yet." Amity said. "You will get to learn to read someday. In the meantime, I think there's something I could tell you guys. Do you like stories?"
"YEAH!" Most of them said in unison.
"I know a story about a pair of witches that I haven't told anyone before." Amity said before she was slightly interrupted before she got the chance to ask if they wanted to hear.
"Do you know witches?!" The kid with the twintails asked excitedly.
"Are you a witch?!" A different kid asked just as bewildered.
Amity couldn't help but laugh softly but then looked to her sides before she whispered to them. "Can I trust you guys with a secret?"
"YEAH!" The group screamed.
Nodding, Amity leaned forward and whispered to them, of course, she wasn't really whispering low enough for anyone in the room not to hear what she was saying. There were parents there, after all, so she wanted them to hear what she whispered so that they wouldn't be worried of her telling them things they wouldn't approve of.
"I do know witches. Their names are Twilight and Dawn."
"Whoa!" Some of them exclaimed.
"Do they know cool spells?" One kid asked.
"Do they know of Azura?" A different one asked.
"Do they ride on a broom?" Yet another one asked.
More and more began to rain questions on Amity who just grinned from ear to ear hearing them all. "Do you really want me to tell you more about them?"
"YEAH!" They exclaimed excitedly.
"Ok then. Why don't you all take a seat and I'll tell you more about Twilight and Dawn, ok?" Amity asked, and just as soon as she finished her sentence they were all moving their way to take seats on the small chairs that the librarian had set for them.
As Amity raised her eyes while standing up to her feet, she got to meet eyes with the two workers who both gave her thumbs up of approval which made Amity a lot more relaxed, but her face suddenly started to get warm with a shade of red.
The pink-haired witch cleared her throat and walked to her own chair where she left the small short book she wrote and began to read to her now attentive audience.
"Once upon a time… there was a human girl named Twilight. A somewhat timid child who dreamed of one day becoming a witch… just like you all." Amity opened with that line before raising her eyes up, knowing ahead she was going to get interrupted.
"Wait, Twilight is human?!"
"And she became a witch?!"
"Can I become a witch too?!"
"Yes, yes and of course you can!" Amity replied to all questions. "But you know who didn't believe that at first? Dawn. She is a witch, who although misguided, didn't warm up to Twilight right away. They didn't get along…"
The more Luz listened to Amity's tale, the more she started to feel that she wrote that from experience. Twilight and Dawn… were totally the two of them!
Soon enough, Miss Grimm arrived with a couple of chairs for them to sit, to which Luz thanked her for with a smile.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." Miss Grimm said as she took a seat next to Luz and joined her in listening to Amity's story.
"It all began in a magical place called the Boiling Isles…" Amity said, which made Luz cough slightly thinking she may have drawn too much from experience.
While they listened, Luz was able to remember all those adventures Amity talked of in her book. From the time that she challenged her to a witch's duel, the time they got to bond in the library, when they officially became friends at the top of a mountain, when they became classmates at Hexside…
In the end, the story was building up to one particular event in Luz's and Amity's lives. Facing Grom.
When reminded of Grom, Luz felt silly. Knowing now that it was her who Amity was trying to ask Grom to. Maybe if she had worded things differently that day, maybe… they could have become something more… earlier.
But as Luz listened to the rest of the story, Amity changed nothing. Up to the part where Twilight called Dawn 'a friend' just like she did which made her cringe and blush so much.
"They both faced their fears, learning that together their magic was stronger." Amity narrated the ending to her story. "And by the time their dance came to an end, Grom was no more. No one had to face their fears ever again. And that's… the end. For now."
Just as soon as Amity closed that book, the kids gathered around her once again. The parents and the workers on the back were all standing and clapping. Luz got up as well and cheered for her girlfriend before she noticed that Miss Grimm was somewhat serious.
"Miss Grimm, everything alright?"
The woman with the large headphones tilted her head and aimed her closed eyes at Luz before chuckling softly. "Oh, yeah. Got a little distracted… I'm somewhat still tired of the earlier commotion."
"I see." Luz said with a soft chuckle before focusing on her girlfriend once again.
"Can we please take a few pictures with you and the kids?" Aisha -one of the workers- said while she and her co-worker got closer to the group of kids and Amity.
"Oh, of course!" Amity said while she got back on her knees and with the group of kids gathered around her for the picture, the two workers began to take pictures of them.
"Say cheese!" Jolene, the blonde worker said while Aisha was taking multiple snaps with her phone.
"Cheese!" Some of them exclaimed.
"Ok, one more but you all got to show us a cool pose." Aisha said.
Not only were the workers taking pictures, but so were the parents. The session ended a few minutes later. And once they were done, Amity got to say goodbye to those kids while listening to them asking if she would tell more stories to which she responded with a hopeful 'maybe.'
Once they started to leave, Amity was able to stretch her legs and sigh before she got stiff once more when those workers were walking back up to her with the widest grins she has ever seen in her life.
"That was amazing!" Jolene exclaimed.
"Ahhhh! Perfect, just perfect!" Aisha screamed without any care of being in the library. "Doctor Craig will regret missing this whole thing."
Amity blushed like a tomato once more, quite surprised that these older kids were giving her so much praise. "Thanks… hehe…"
"I'm Aisha, by the way. It's a pleasure to meet you." The dark skinned girl with the large white curly haired introduced herself while offering her hand for Amity who reached to shake with right away.
"And I'm Jolene." The blonde one said. "But everyone calls me Leni. Before you ask why, we'll get to share awkward stories with one another once we work together…"
"Leni!" Aisha exclaimed. "Keep it together, no one is hired yet!"
"Oh, right." Leni said with a soft laugh.
"But for real, tho." Aisha said with a wide grin once more. "Usually, Doctor Craig asks people before they get to work with us for some orientation at the Orb to teach them everything you've shown us today. So it's safe to assume that once we show her the video, the job is pretty much yours."
"Yeah." Leni said. "We've had a bunch of people come and go over the past year, and none showed the amount of care and dedication you showcased today. Our boss is going to fall in love with you."
Aisha nodded. "Mhmhm. She's the nicest person you'll ever meet in your life, so as long as you give her exactly what you showed us today, she'll be happy with you."
"There are rules, of course." Leni said. "I mean, I don't have to tell you that mistreating the kids is a huge no-no, right?"
"The last person that did that in front of her, didn't hear the end of it." Aisha said with a soft laugh.
"I was genuinely concerned for her safety." Leni added.
"Doctor Craig was killing her with her gaze, and then she got fired." Aisha laughed some more. "Now she's frying burgers at Burger Queen. That'll teach her not to test my patience."
With a bit of a somewhat grim look on her face, Amity chuckled nervously. "Oh… wow."
"Ok, I think we are scaring her." Leni said while laughing a little bit. "But really, if you don't like working with kids, this job might not be for you."
"Oh, but I do love working with kids!" Amity exclaimed. "I didn't do this just to impress you. I enjoy this. I initially asked the librarian if I could do this for her, but then told me it would be more suitable for your daycare center."
They both nodded while smiling widely with Aisha saying next. "Ok, so she loves kids."
"Checked." Leni said.
"She managed to get the attention of said kids." Aisha continued listing things.
"Checked." Leni said once more.
"She got them to sit down in silence so that she would read to them."
"Still amazing!"
"And she got them to ask for more."
"Absolutely."
"Girl friend…" Aisha grinned. "The job is yours! That's what I would say if I had the authority to hire you. But between you and me, the job is as good as yours! Give me your number so that Doctor Craig can call you for the official job interview?"
"Oh… yeah… I don't… have one?" Amity said while biting her lower lip, thankfully Luz was close-by so she jumped into the conversation with a nervous smile.
"She's new in town… she's… uh… she's an exchange student from Canada and she's living with me. So… maybe I can give you my number while she gets her own phone?"
"Oh, sure." Aisha said. "That'll work."
"Canadian, huh?" Leni asked with a soft chuckle.
"Yeah…"
"Hm…" Leni rubbed her chin while looking at Amity with skeptic eyes. "You don't sound Canadian."
Once Luz finished giving Aisha her phone she jumped in to save Amity. "She lives on the southern side of Canada… pretty close to the border. Hehe…"
Leni and Aisha looked at each other and shrugged it off.
"Well, that's it. Oh, wait no! There's one more thing." Leni said.
"Oh, right!" Aisha exclaimed. "When she does get to call you, be sure that in your interview do not wear any red clothing. Like if you're wearing something small and red like a wristband, that's fine. The problem is wearing like a t-shirt or a dress that's all red."
"Huh, why?" Amity asked, puzzled.
"Shall we tell her?" Aisha asked Leni who thought for a second before answering her.
"Maybe we should, or else she'll think we're pulling a prank on her."
"Ok. So… this will sound a little weird." Aisha said before explaining. "Our boss is color blind. She cannot see red."
"Wait, really?" Amity asked. "What does she see instead?"
"From my experience, I asked her once and she said she sees gray, but she doesn't like talking about it." Aisha said.
"Yeah," Leni continued. "We believe that it may be due to a traumatic event, it's a sensible topic for her."
"I searched online and color blindness doesn't work like this, hence why we think this might be psychological." Aisha said.
"She shouldn't be able to see other warm colors like yellow and orange but she does. It's just red that she can't see." Leni finished.
"Yeah, we're telling you all this because first impressions are key and we don't want you to start with the wrong foot because if she sees you wearing red, she'll become a bit awkward and ask you to wear something more colorful. And when she realizes you're wearing red she might… become a bit distant with you. Once again, this is case sensitive for her and if she feels like you're going to ask her about it, she'll avoid you." Aisha said before Leni closed things down with a serious look on her face.
"We want to remind you we're not pranking you, this is serious. We both want to work with you." Leni said while smiling at the end.
"Ok, thank you. I'll take note of that." Amity said while returning the smile.
"Great!" Aisha exclaimed. "Well, I guess that's it. You're ready for that interview. One last thing… would you mind if we take a selfie with you? All the pictures we've taken are going to the Orb's official social media?"
"Yeah, sure!" Amity said while blushing a little bit as the older girls took a picture with her.
"Again, that was amazing! Hopefully by next week you're working with us at the Orb." Leni said.
"Take care, enjoy the rest of your weekend!" Aisha said while the both of them wave at Amity and Luz before heading off through the library.
Luz looked at Amity with a wide smile when she noticed that Amity's hands were shaking a bit. "You ok?" She asked.
"I'm so… ahhhhh! I'm so happy it went so well!" Amity said while shaking her arms a little bit.
"And you were worried for a second, may I remind you." Luz said with a grin.
"Oh, thanks Miss Grimm for giving me this chance." Amity said while the short librarian approached them with somewhat of a worried look on her face.
"Hm… Amity, did those places in your story… the Boiling Isles, Bonesborough, Hexside… are all those made up?" The librarian asked while her closed eyes were fixed upon Amity's.
"Uh…" Amity began to sweat. "Yeah…"
"They are entirely a work of fiction!" Luz said, trying to help Amity.
The librarian nodded before smiling. "You got quite the imagination."
"Yeah…" Amity said nervously while Luz sighed in relief behind her.
"Best of luck with your new job." Miss Grimm said as she reached for Amity's hand to shake.
"Thank you!" Amity smiled wider, shaking off all those nerves once and for all.
Once the librarian left the two of them, Luz and Amity sighed once again before Luz said with a wide grin. "It's time to celebrate. Tonight, I will take you guys to a sushi bar!"
"Sushi bar? What's that?" Amity asked while tilting her head.
"Just another culinary experience you all need to take. Trust me." Luz said while giving her girlfriend a playful wink.
End of the chapter.
