A/N: Wishing those who celebrate a Merry Christmas! This will be my last update before the holiday!
Chapter 24
"Caitlin, you've been a busy lady," Detective Klass stood in the interrogation room with Betty sitting in the corner and the suspect at the table in handcuffs. Captain Benson sat at the chair across from the woman.
"Worse still, you made your aunt an accessory when she lied for you to us," Olivia spoke up.
"I didn't tell her to do that," Caitlin said.
"Doesn't matter. It happened. Sergeant Tutuola is speaking to her right now. I'm guessing she doesn't want to spend the rest of her golden years in jail and is singing like a songbird right now," Olivia told her.
"If I did anything, I didn't tell her," Caitlin was trying to play it cool.
"Oh, you did something. See, when you killed Drew, it made Dylan have to try and defend himself. You could try and tell us that you didn't kill Drew, but Dylan just spent hours telling us all about your crazy plan and how you killed Drew," Klass told her.
"Dylan?" Caitlin gave them a look.
"Yeah, that convicted rapist you tracked down to the halfway house, so you could enact revenge on someone who hadn't actually done anything to you?" Olivia gave her a look of her own.
"We know you hacked Akiko's Facebook page. We know you paid Lance Kirkpatrick. Captain Benson what else do we know?" Klass turned to ask the superior officer.
"Well right now Detectives Bruno and Velasco are down at forensics. You see Dylan told us all about the storage locker Penn Station," Olivia explained.
"I think you know what they found in that locker," Klass said.
"You're not allowed to enter a rented box," Caitlin said.
"Oh, see that's not true. You violated the rental agreement by stashing a weapon in it. It was an added bonus to find the red spray paint can. Amtrak would like a word with you about the gun, by the way, as do the Feds but since you killed someone, we get first crack," Olivia shook her head.
"You've got no proof I did anything," Caitlin was still being defiant.
"You see when Drew Hurley was autopsied, there was a nasty hole in his head. The gun was placed incredibly close to the back of his head so I'm willing to bet that forensics will find brain matter on the weapon. Our ME… she bets that she can match the blood type and the DNA. Dylan said that he never touched the gun so I'm willing to bet that we'll find your prints on it too," the Captain said.
"Why would I kill this, Drew?" Caitlin asked.
"See we couldn't figure that one out, but then we realized that Drew attempted to warn Akiko. The messages got him in trouble, mostly because they were pretty disgusting. Of course, given what happened to Akiko, disgusting is putting it mildly. What better revenge than taking away her ability to have kids?" Olivia wondered.
"I think the DA will be able to liken the notes Drew left Akiko to what happened to her. Dylan said that he didn't realize he was getting Drew dragged into something that would get his cousin killed. You see, as a felon, Dylan was sure that if he brought any of what you told him to the cops, they wouldn't believe him. He hoped that Drew could at least warn Akiko. The problem was Drew was less than concise that this "crazy lady" was after Akiko. One thing that I cannot understand in all of this though is why? You seriously did all of this to Akiko because you were mad at her for breaking up your friendship? Seems like such an overreaction but then… what did George call it?" Klass looked at the Captain.
"He called it psychopathy with hostile tendencies which kind of seems like being a psychopath would include hostile tendencies," Olivia said.
"Maybe he meant extra hostile," Klass said.
"Who is this, George? He claims to know me," Caitlin said.
"Well, you see George worked for the FBI before he signed on to help with this case. He knows a lot about people with issues," Olivia wondered if she could get a reaction. Betty suddenly stood up as if she could feel something was off.
"Issues? I have issues?" Caitlin's irrational anger was showing and she was losing control.
"You trying to say you don't?" Klass gave her a look. Caitlin slammed her handcuffed hands down on the table and stood up. Elliot was standing outside the interrogation room watching with George. He gave the former FBI agent a look.
"She has to do something first," George reminded him. Almost on cue, Caitlin lunged across the table and Klass grabbed her handcuffed wrists and slammed them down on the table, which forced Caitlin's body into an awkward position.
"You want me to show you issues?" Caitlin wanted to know.
"Why did you hurt Akiko?" Klass demanded.
"She thought she was so special! She thought she was better than me!" Caitlin screamed.
"Because she is!" Klass barked at her.
"I put her in her place!" Caitlin gave the detective a look.
"Just like you did Drew?" Olivia asked.
"He was such a worm. He was trying to ruin my plan!" Caitlin admitted.
"You're under arrest for the murder of Drew Hurley and the attempted murder and sexual assault of Akiko Matsuda," Olivia told her. It was only then that it hit Caitlin that she'd said too much. The Captain and Klass grabbed the woman and extricated her from the room, heading for the precinct's holding cells.
"I'll call Central Booking," Elliot said.
