Chapter 15

"What have we got?" Olivia asked as she reentered the bullpen a little while later.

"The guy who was sitting at the main desk, Tommy, pulled the footage from the hallways together for us on the night that Akiko was attacked. He also got the IT guy to pull the computer records from the two computers. There's a little to sift through on the last one but the footage is pretty clear. Velasco is tracking down the worker who was on shift on the night of the attack," Bruno told her. He was nursing a cup of coffee and he looked like he didn't get a lot of sleep.

"Show me," Olivia said. Fin cued the footage up on his computer and they watched as Dylan walked in the door of the halfway house at eleven thirty that night.

"How long does it normally take him to get from his job to the halfway house?" The Captain wanted to know.

"Tommy says that he doesn't normally work the night shift, but he did say that Dylan's special pass allows for twenty minutes to elapse from the end of his shift to him arriving at the halfway house. We got a copy of the pass," Fin told her.

"Twenty minutes? What if there's traffic or construction? Or the bus is running late?" Olivia was surprised that a halfway house that didn't require head counts would give a tight window, especially given the nature of city traffic. While she had no objection to being hard on parolees like Dylan, that seemed like a very hard thing to manage, given the nature of the city traffic.

"According to Tommy, the nature of the pass has a built-in warning. If the parolee checks in late, their parole officer is alerted. It is up to the parole officer whether he wants to violate the parolee. Usually, a couple of minutes is not something that the parole officer will sweat but if it becomes a habit or it's more than five or ten minutes…" Bruno tilted his head.

"So, what was Dylan's brilliant excuse for being ten minutes late?" Olivia asked.

"He told the night guy that he had to get off the bus since it was running behind," Fin said.

"Did the night guy buy that?" The Captain cocked an eyebrow.

"That's why Velasco is tracking down the night guy," Bruno told her. Olivia nodded and looked at the footage.

"He certainly doesn't look like he just committed a sexual assault," she frowned.

"Parole officer knows about Dylan being late. Said he spoke to Dylan about it and told him that he gets one more late arrival and then he's violating him," Elliot announced as he got off the phone.

"Ok so he's going to be more cautious then," The Captain nodded.

"He did arrive on time when we were there," Bruno stifled a yawn.

"Catch some sleep in the bunk room. I need you fresh. You had a long night," Olivia told him.

"Velasco must have Red Bull running through his veins," Bruno admitted before he headed out to the bunk room.

"Ah to be young again," Elliot chuckled.

"What did Dylan's boss say?" Olivia wanted to know.

"Well, that's the fun part – Dylan left work early. His boss said that he let Dylan leave at nine thirty. Dylan had come in early as the guy who worked the shift in front of him had to go to a doctor appointment. There's no overtime for the maintenance staff and Dylan had hit his forty hours," Elliot told them.

"Monkey wrench," the Captain frowned.

"I agree. We have to prove that Dylan knew this was coming so I talked to the day maintenance guy. He confirmed that he, the boss, and Dylan had a talk about this being a possibility. Seems the guy was trying to get his appointment moved but no joy," he said to her.

"Ok so we have almost everything we need to drag him in here," Olivia was happy about that. They didn't have Caitlin but there was still hope, well until Detective Klass spoke up.

"We've got a problem," the Queen SVU detective said.

"What problem is that?" Olivia asked.

"Akiko's Facebook account was logged into on the computer but not by Dylan. In fact, his login info hasn't been used in a while," Klass announced.

"Ok who's username logged into it?" Elliot wanted to know.

"Another lovely parolee by the name of Lance Kirkpatrick," Klass said.

"All right I want the security footage looked at for the time of the login. There's a good chance that Dylan used someone else's information. What about the Sugar Babyz account?" Olivia was hoping for good news.

"That website is blocked by the halfway house," Klass heaved a sigh. She walked over to Fin and showed him the time slot they needed to look at.

"It's not over yet. Caitlin could have given Dylan the password to get into Akiko's Facebook while she set up the Sugar Babyz account from her own machine. We need more on her before we can haul her in," the Captain frowned. Her phone buzzed and she quickly answered it. She wasn't on long before hanging up.

"TARU has footage of our shooter. The person was wearing a hoody with the hood up so there is no good shot of the face but they can tell us that our shooter was shorter than Drew Hurley," Olivia said.

"We know someone who is shorter," Fin said.

"Yes, we do but we need more. What do you have on the video?" His senior officer wondered.

"Well, it isn't Dylan. It is indeed Lance Kirkpatrick," Klass told her.

"Call his parole officer. Violate his ass. I'm headed down to TARU and then Melinda," Olivia told them.

"I'm coming with," Elliot piped up.
