Brynlee barely managed to fulfill the fifty Millions quest before the battle finally came to an end. Zoro had defeated the two Frontier Agents before she could get to them, though.
"Total?" she called out, stretching her arms a bit as she joined him.
"Fifty-seven," he replied, sheathing his swords.
"Damn it," she huffed. "I got fifty-three."
"Better brace that wallet of yours," he merely grinned.
She rolled her eyes a bit – though he tried not to show it, he was definitely gloating. Still, he'd done a good job, and it's not like money was an issue, anyway. And she was a woman of her word, of course, so she nodded in agreement, accepting her loss gracefully. She then kneeled on the ground beside Igaram, who still barely clung to consciousness, somehow.
"Hello. I know you've got a cover to keep, but it's actually been blown by Miss All-Sunday – higher-ranked agents are coming as we speak to silence you and Princess Vivi so as to stop you from saving Alabasta—"
"Oooooooi, Brynlee! Zoro!"
None other than Nami and Sanji suddenly came out of a backstreet to join them, Sanji carrying a single bag. Brynlee was a little surprised, but then remembered that the entire town was on the brink of starvation because of their lack of funds, hence why they'd sent their people hunt Lagoon in the first place.
"Good job, guys. I knew you could handle it," greeted Nami.
"Obviously," scoffed Zoro. He then jabbed his thumb towards Brynlee, still kneeling next to Igaram. "She's speaking nonsense again. Make her stop."
"Hey!"
"Y- you…" Igaram slowly sat up, pale as a sheet. "How could you know…? No, it doesn't matter… If- if what you said is true—"
"It is."
"—then- then Princess Vivi is in grave danger…" He winced, holding his side. "You're a strong crew… So I beg of you: please, protect Princess Vivi and bring her back home! To the Kingdom of Alabasta!"
"Princess Vivi?" echoed Sanji, intrigued.
"Miss Wednesday," supplied Brynlee.
"What exactly is going on?" asked Nami, quirking a brow.
"Our Kingdom is on the verge of ruin… Baroque Works has been destroying it from the inside for years, and the Princess decided to infiltrate it in order to uncover the Boss's true identity, so as to save Alabasta," explained Igaram, lowering his head in shame. "So many grueling years away from home… She's been so brave…! But if- if what you say is true, then Mister Zero will have her killed before she can return and warn the King and our people. So please! Please, save her!"
"A Princess, you say?" Nami's eyes began glinting in anticipation. "Then I suppose the Kingdom will pay us a hefty sum if we bring her back, won't it? I'm sure the crown will be generous enough with their Princess's saviors."
"No. We're not mercenaries for hire," immediately refused Zoro, crossing his arms over his chest.
"It's not about the money, mosshead," huffed Sanji. "It's about helping a lady in need!"
"It is about the money," corrected Nami without missing a beat.
"Extort people all you want, witch, but leave me out of it."
"You—!"
"Be it money, principles, or sheer boredom, the reason doesn't matter," cut in Brynlee, effectively silencing all three of her crewmates before they could start arguing. "Our Captain decides our heading – if Vivi actually wants our help, she can ask him herself. But for now, let's just deal with the immediate threat."
"Immediate threat?" repeated Nami, tensing up a bit.
"Well, yeah. I did say two higher-ranked agents were coming to silence them."
Perfectly on cue, two figures slowly walked out of the thin veil of fog that had begun to cover the streets of the town. Her friends tensed up. Zoro made a move to unsheathe his sword, but Brynlee stopped him, grinning sharply.
"Sanji, Nami." Her friends straightened up, glancing her way. "Show 'em hell."
Alright, there's going to be a bit more action next chapter but, like I mentioned before, I'm not one for detailed fight scenes xD
