(19)-Aftermath.

One Hour Later...

Later, at the 'ARVADA POLICE STATION', Kyle sat at a table alone in the interrogation-room, wearing his black sleeveless undershirt, his black fingerless gloves and his foxelli hiking boots-the laces cross-tied and stuffed into the boots, with his arms resting on the table. After the twister incident with Cobey, Kyle ran back inside the hotel with Megan where they rushed into his suite, he got his cellphone off the night-stand and used it to call 9-1-1, informing them of what had happened, then he and Megan rushed back outside to wait for the police to arrive.

Two male cops showed up later at the hotel and the first one asked Kyle if he was the one that called, to which Kyle answered "Yes". But instead of asking for their statements, the two officers grabbed Kyle and Megan, forcing them into the back of their car, then the cops got back in the front of the vehicle and drove off for the police station and...here they were. The two police had put Kyle in this room and had taken Megan somewhere else.

There were many feelings one went through when they experience something traumatic. Kyle quickly went to denial. There was no way he'd actually witnessed a kid being sucked up into a twister and then vanishing off the face of the Earth with it. He then thought back to the weird dream he had had earlier and wondered if he was still dreaming. Yeah. Yeah, that had to be what was happening. It was so impossible that clearly he was having a bad dream. For all he knew, he was back at the hotel in his suite, sound asleep in bed, and was dreaming the whole thing up. As he sat alone in the interrogation-room, that scenario seemed likely.

Kyle had sat in silence for over an hour before the door opened and in walked the two police officers who had driven him and Megan here to the station. His heart had been pulsating so hard since it all began, he thought it would expel itself from his chest. It finally started to relax and he felt almost normal. Almost. Megan was most likely in another room where she had been giving her statement and being questioned by the two officers. Obviously they were now done and wanted to hear his statement and question him next. For the life of him, he couldn't understand why they had been brought down here to the station in the first place, why they had been placed in different rooms to give their statements to police or why the cops wanted to question them. It was like they were criminals and were being treated as suspects in Cobey's disappearance. He figured these two officers were here to get his statement and question him now that they were done with Megan. Probably because they wanted to see if his story would match her's.

The second officer closed the door behind him and his partner and they both went over to the table Kyle was sitting at where the first officer sat down in a chair in front of the 18-year old boy while the second officer stood on the left side of his partner.

"Well? Did she tell you everything?" Kyle asked, referring to Megan.

"She did. And now we wanna hear your version of events." The first officer said.

"What do you wanna know?" Kyle asked.

"Everything. Like, for starters, what were you doing at a hotel with a 10-year old kid and a woman in her 30s? Shouldn't you be at home in bed, resting up for high school in the morning?" The second officer said.

"I graduated high school last year, officer, uh-"

"Ivan." The second officer introduced himself, cutting Kyle off. "Officer Hank Ivan."

"And i'm Karter. Officer Jack Karter." The first officer added, introducing himself as well. "And we already got your name from Miss Nova, so...no need for introductions."

"Good to know." Kyle said.

"Okay, Kyle...tell us your story." Officer Karter said.

"Well...like i said i graduated high school last year, i'm from Kansas and-"

"Kansas?" Officer Ivan said, cutting Kyle off once again. "Well, no wonder you don't understand what's going on here."

"What's going on here? Oh, you mean how the two of you just showed up at the hotel and forced me and Miss Megan into your car and brought us here against our will? Is that it?" Kyle asked.

"Watch the tone. You're the one who called us, remember?" Officer Karter said.

"Yeah! To report Cobey missing, not to get abducted by you!" Kyle said.

"We didn't abduct you." Officer Karter said.

"What do you call just showing up and forcing me and Miss Megan into your car and bringing us here without an explanation?" Kyle asked.

"I don't know how your cops run things in Kansas, but here in Colorado...we call it making an arrest." Officer Ivan said.

"Yeah, well, where i'm from, we call it kidnapping." Kyle said. They may not have had police in Prairie Grove, but Kyle knew what kidnapping was and this qualified as just that. It was done by two cops.

"We didn't kidnap you, we just brought you and Miss Nova in to give your statements and answer a few questions." Officer Karter corrected.

"You both showed up and forced us into your car and brought us back here without explanation, so legally speaking, yeah, this is kidnapping. When police officers abduct instead of arrest, it means they are illegally taking someone into custody without a valid legal reason, essentially kidnapping them, which is a serious crime that constitutes abuse of power and violation of a person's civil rights. This is considered a form of police misconduct and can be prosecuted criminally." Kyle explained. He had learned enough legal stuff in high school to know the does and the don'ts of law enforcement and this was definitely one of the don'ts.

"Just tell us your story." Officer Karter said, hoping the boy would drop the subject.

"And what happened tonight...Kyle." Officer Ivan added.

"Yeah, start from the beginning, Kyle. If that's even your real name." Officer Karter said.

Even though Kyle was tired and annoyed because he'd been sitting in here for over an hour, he knew he had to tell these two officers everything he knew. Somehow he knew it was the only way he and Megan were going to be able to leave this place. "Like i said before, i finished high school last year and i'm from Kansas. I'm here in Colorado because i'm looking for my long lost older brother, who i haven't seen since his college graduation in 2022. I stopped by the Dairy Queen shortly after arriving here and that's where i met Cobey. Long story short, the waitress ended up calling CPS, i called the cops, his adoptive mother ended up getting arrested and he, Miss Megan and i went to Savanah Suites to stay for the night."

"Yeah, we heard about that incident at the DQ. Keep goin'." Officer Karter said.

"Anyway, i woke up in the middle of the night to this glowing emerald green light that was shining in through the window, Miss Megan knocked at the door, i answered it, she told me Cobey was gone, so we rushed outside to see if he was there to see what the source of the light was. He was and the source of the green light was these emerald green glowing clouds that were covering the sky. Then the twister came down from the clouds, sucked Cobey up into it, went back up into the clouds and disappeared right along with them...and Cobey." Kyle said.

"Tornado." Officer Karter said.

"What?" Kyle said.

"A tornado, that's what you saw." Officer Karter said.

"We call them twisters back home in Kansas." Kyle said.

"Anything else?" Karter asked.

"The twister was emerald green and glowing, if that helps." Kyle answered.

"And you say this "twister" just...came down out of the clouds, sucked the kid up, ascended into the sky and then vanished with the clouds and him?" Officer Ivan asked.

"Yes. You can ask around, many people saw it." Kyle stated.

"Oh, we plan to, don't worry." Officer Karter said. "In the meantime, you and Miss Nova will be spending the rest of the night here."

"You're detaining us?" Kyle asked, surprised.

"Yes, that's exactly so, we're detaining you." Officer Karter said.

"But why?" Kyle asked.

"Man, you sure ask a lot of questions. "Officer Karter said. "Officer Ivan, please escort this boy to his cell. Miss Nova will be joining him shortly...after a few more questions."

"Right away." Officer Ivan said before he went over to where Kyle was sitting and grabbed the boy by the night arm, pulling him out of the chair to his feet. He then escorted the brown-reddish-curly haired teen over to the door where he opened it and proceeded to escort him out of the room.

"Wait." Kyle said, stopping in the doorway, making Officer Ivan stop as well, getting Officer Karter's attention. "What about Cobey?"

"Oh, don't worry about that. The whole force is out looking for him, so we should be able to find him soon. But i can't promise you a good outcome. I mean, the chances of anyone surviving being sucked into a tornado are high, but there are no guarantees. Most of the city is without power due to tonight's tornado, except for this place, hotels, motels, restaurants, gas stations and grocery stores-thanks to generators, so that's likely to slow down our search for the kid, especially with all the crime rampages that are occuring." Officer Karter said.

"We'll do our best, i promise you." Officer Ivan assured Kyle.

"That's not good enough." Kyle said before jerking his arm free from officer Ivan and taking off running down the hall.

"Hey! Get back here!" Officer Ivan shouted as she half-stepped out of the room, standing in the doorway.

Kyle ran down the hall as fast as he could and soon made it to the front room where he rushed to the glass double-doors, pushed open the left door, exiting the building, and fled the property, running off into the night in search of Cobey.
