Fun Weekend
A couple days after coming back from New Orleans Jackie had just put the kids to bed, she was going to read one chapter of the novel she was currently reading and then go to sleep herself. She had just opened the book when Nick walked into the room.
"Well good news Jacks." He stated.
"What's that?" She asked.
"You know how I budgeted $2,000 for food, transportation, souvenirs, and other activities for our trip to New Orleans?"
"Yep."
"Well, I totaled up all the receipts and it came to a total of $1,475, meaning we still have $525 of it left, we can use that for the weekend we take the kids to that hotel with the waterslides, that way we won't have to dip into our savings as much."
"That's great, and I can add some to that." Jackie said as she got out of bed and walked over to her dresser. She pulled out 2 one-hundred-dollar bills.
"This is our emergency sock fund money, I have $310 in there so I can spare $200."
"Ok, great. We should get online and check out the prices for that hotel." He said as he grabbed his laptop.
He got online.
"Look here, this upcoming weekend they are having a deal on their rooms, only $200 per night, plus taxes and fees which would add up to $240 per night, we'd need two rooms since there are so many of us which would put us at $480 total, I was thinking we'd get adjoining rooms."
"Yeah, that's a good idea." Jackie agreed.
"Can you take Friday off of work?" He asked her.
"I'll ask Chelsea tomorrow if she can sub for me on Friday."
"Ok, for now though you better get to sleep, it's pretty late."
"Yeah, and I'm tired." Jackie agreed.
"One more thing." Nick told her.
"What's that?"
"I want to invite Eli, I was going to call Tina tomorrow and ask her if Eli could join us."
"That's a great idea, Nicky, he'd love that, and so would our kids."
He smiled at her.
The next morning when Jackie got to work she walked to the classroom across the hall where Chelsea was subbing for the day.
"Hey Chels, are you available to sub for me on Friday?"
"Yep, I'd be happy to."
"Ok, great, thanks."
Jackie explained about the fun weekend they were planning for the kids.
"They will love that! My sister and her husband just stayed at that hotel with my niece and nephew, and they loved it!" Chelsea told her.
"Oh good, and if you see any of my kiddos please don't tell them, it's a surprise." Jackie said with a smile.
"Ok." Chelsea agreed.
Jackie thanked her again and then walked back over to her own room. She grabbed her phone and sent Nick a text.
Chelsea said she could sub for me on Friday, book the hotel rooms for this Saturday. Love you and have a good day!
Her phone dinged a couple minutes later.
Ok, I will, have a good day, love you too!
After that Jackie got ready for the day.
At lunch she noticed she had another message from Nick.
Hey hon, call me when you get a minute.
She called him.
"Hey, I called Tina, Eli's coming with us. Then I booked the hotel rooms, it's all set. I told them how many people there would be, they said that since we were getting two rooms we could have up to two more kids so I was thinking you should call Carissa and ask her if Zachary and Juliet would like to come."
"That's a great idea Nicky. I'll call Carissa after school today, also I am so glad Eli can come with us."
"Me too." Nick agreed.
"For now though I have to run, I still have to make copies of a worksheet before I have to pick up my students from lunch, I'll see you when I get home, love you."
"Ok, love you too."
The call ended and then she went and made her copies.
The afternoon flew by and before she knew it her students had gone home for the day. She used the restroom, straightened up her classroom a little bit and then called Carissa.
Jackie explained to her what she and Nick were planning on doing.
"Oh, thanks so much for inviting my kiddos but this Saturday is the day Chad and I and the kids are leaving for Minnesota, remember, we are going to visit my parents for the week?"
"Oh, that's this month? I thought you said you were going in March?" Jackie said.
"Nope, this month."
"Oh, well I'm sorry that Zachary and Juliet can't come with us but I bet they are really excited about seeing their grandma and grampa."
"Yes, very, and they are also extremely excited about flying on a plane." Carissa said with a laugh.
"They've flown before, right?"
"Yeah, but they are still extremely excited."
"That's good, have a fun and safe trip and when you get back we'll have to do lunch so we can tell each other all about our recent trips."
"Sounds like a great idea to me, thanks again, and I'll see you soon." Carissa said.
"Ok no problem, bye." Jackie responded.
When Jackie got home that night she greeted the kids and then went upstairs to change her clothes. Nick followed her.
"Hey, did you call Carissa?" He asked.
"Yeah, they are flying to Minnesota on Saturday for the week to see her parents so Zachary and Juliet won't be able to come with us."
"That's too bad, but they'll have fun on their trip." Nick told her.
"Yeah, they will." Jackie agreed as she slipped a sweatshirt over her head.
"Hey, is the left-over ham and scalloped potatoes I made for dinner yesterday ok for dinner?"
"Sure, those were good." Nick told her.
"Thanks, they are my grandma Mabel's specialty."
"I thought your grandma Mabel's specialty was her turkey soup?"
"That's another one of her specialties." Jackie replied.
Nick laughed.
The family went about their daily routine until Friday and when they told the kids that they weren't going to school that day and explained the reason the kids were so excited. They were even more excited when they told them that Eli was going as well. They laid around the house until the afternoon and then went and picked up Eli before going to the park so the kids could play. Tina had let Eli miss school so he wouldn't miss out on any of the fun weekend.
After that it was early evening so they took the kids for pizza and ice cream before taking them to the movie.
At the movie the kids were allowed to each get a drink and Nick and Jackie bought 3 large popcorns for everyone to share.
Once they had found their seats Jackie took out the coffee filters she'd brought and filled one of them with popcorn for each child, Nick and Jackie shared the popcorn left in one of the buckets.
The kids giggled like crazy during the movie, they loved it.
That night after they got home Nick and Jackie helped each of the kids set up their sleeping bags in the living room so they could have a mini "campout" in the living room while Jackie slept on the couch so the littler kids wouldn't be scared to sleep down there. It turns out she would not have had to do that because all the kids had a blast, talking and giggling with one another well into the morning.
When they got up the next morning Jackie helped the kids pack what they were going to need that night in the hotel while Nick rolled each of their sleeping bags back up so they could take them to the hotel later. After he'd finished with that he made the kids pancakes for breakfast so Jackie could finish getting everything together they were taking later.
They left for the hotel around 11:30 because check-in time at the hotel was noon.
The adjoining rooms were nice, 2 queen-sized beds per room as well as plenty of floor space for all the kids' sleeping bags.
The kids couldn't wait to go to the indoor waterpark at the hotel so each of them quickly changed into their swimming suits and swimming trunks, it was nice that the waterpark was indoors because Jackie didn't have to worry about making sure the kids had sunscreen on.
The pool area was really nice, it offered 3 waterslides that were for little kids that weren't scary as well as four waterslides for older kids or adults that were a little bit more daring.
Even Nick and Jackie went down the waterslides.
The kids were having so much fun none of them wanted to get out to have lunch. Finally at 7 they had to call it a day because the pool area closed for the night, which was probably a good thing because the restaurant at the hotel closed at 9, so they wanted to get dinner before they closed. They hurriedly went back to their hotel rooms and changed their clothes and combed their hair before going down to the hotel restaurant.
Everyone got hamburgers and French fries for dinner and after dinner they were all exhausted after the fun day.
Nick and Jackie set up all the kids sleeping bags for them. Nick would stay in one room with all the boys and Jackie in the other with all the girls. They thought the kids would fight over who got to sleep in the beds but as it turned out all of them wanted to sleep in the sleeping bags except for Nora who wanted to cuddle with Jackie, which was no problem.
The kids all fell asleep about 5 minutes after their heads hit the pillow.
Nick got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and smiled, sometime during the night, Ryan had crawled into Boone's sleeping bag with him.
The next morning everyone had the continental breakfast at the hotel and then everyone packed up so they could checkout.
After checking out they dropped Eli off at his house, before getting out of the car Eli happily thanked Jackie for the weekend.
Nick got out of the car to help Eli unload all of his stuff and Eli nearly tackled Nick, he hugged him so tight.
Nick was so glad Eli was able to spend the weekend with them and he was equally as glad he'd had so much fun.
Nick walked Eli to the door. Tina greeted them with a smile. She tried to hand Nick money but Nick absolutely wouldn't take it. She tried to argue but it didn't do her any good. She did thank him profusely though, she was so grateful Nick and Jackie constantly included Eli in things. Nick and Jackie did it gladly, no thanks was necessary. Had things gone the opposite way, Warrick would have done the same for Jackie and the kids, there was no question about that in Nick or Jackie's minds.
After getting home the family unpacked their things and then just chilled around the house before getting ready for the next week.
That night, after the kids had been put to bed Jackie laid in bed mindlessly watching television.
"What a great weekend huh, Jacks? The kids had a blast!"
"Yes, it was awesome, I am so glad we did that, we'll have to do it again, it's so amazing seeing the kids have so much fun!"
Nick shook his head in agreement.
Nick crawled into bed next to her. Jackie turned the TV off, they were both tired, it may have been a great weekend but that didn't mean that it wasn't tiring.
The End! Thanks for reading and please don't forget to leave a review!
