Powerful Relucted Fighter

The sounds of screams and gunfire filled the air around him, Grimm all around him as they closed a nearby restaurant. The young man barely in his twenties stood before the black, soulless monsters. It should have been a normal day. Why did it have to turn out this way? Battlecruisers in the sky fell prey to the Grimm in the sky, while the very robots meant to protect the innocent turned against their own.

It was absolute madness no…this was chaos.

Again, the Grimm closes by encircling the young man. With a hand on his weapon's hilt, he draws it, a bladeless sword drawn to the creatures of destruction.

"You have some nerve…thinking you'll just destroy this place, the place I hold so dear. Well, I have news for you." A red flame ignites from his hilt as it forms a blade of flames. "I'll burn you to the ground till there's nothing left but burned embers, RRRAAAHHH!"

*6 months Earlier*

It was a quiet early Monday morning, and the sun wasn't out yet. Even the birds were still asleep, as another sign said it was too early for anyone to be up—well, almost anyone.

Beep Beep Beep* An alarm started to go off as the body in bed shuffled a bit under the sheets; a hand came out from them, and with a couple of tries, was able to silence it.

"Mmm… I was having a good dream…" The young man exclaimed as he sat up on his bed and with a couple of stretches was up and ready for the day. He walked over to his note board and read the note with Monday on it. 'Seafood Specials' it read

"Right *Yawn* seafood day, got to get the fish out of the freezer and start thawing it out." True be told owning a restaurant was difficult, living and being part of the family business only added to it but he really didn't mind it. As he made his way to the bathroom with clothes in hand, he passed by a small alter with a picture and a single candle illuminating the small alter.

'Morning, Mom… Looks like your candle is almost out, ' he thought as he set his clothes on the ground and opened the doors in the alter, seeing that the candle supply was running low. 'Looks like we need to buy more…I'll tell Dad later.' As he pulled out a new, fresh candle, with a quick snap of his fingers, he ignited the new candle and placed it right next to a picture of a woman…his late mother.

After his morning shower, he quickly dressed for the upcoming battle— a battle of hunger. Making his way to the downstairs restaurant, he ran into his father, who, too, was getting ready.

"Ah Arthur, Morning sleep well?" He asked

"Yup, I almost didn't want to wake up; it's seafood special today, in case you forgot."

"Better check the lemon and lime supply then; brothers know we are about to destroy that supply." He joked

"I'll get right on it. Oh, and before I forget, Mom needs more candles, " he said as he walked down the stairs.

He only stared as his son walked down and then turned back towards the alter, where a new candle was burning quietly. "He's coming around Honey" he said to himself

It was now 5:30am and the rush our would start at 7am time is always a factor, Arthur now quickly sweeping and spot mopping the tables making sure everything was set for the day ahead. As he walked over the front door to wipe down the glass it suddenly swung open as two people walked inside.

"Ah Arthur sorry about, I didn't hit you?" An older man asked

"Nope I'm fine, morning Benito and morning to you as well Cinthia." He said in a calm tone

"M-morning…Looks like you could use some help setting up." Cinthia offered

"That would help, I still need to prepare the food in the back. Just finish up setting up the table's, thanks so much." Arthur explained as he went to kitchen.

There were lots of tasks to finish and still so little time until it was officially opening hours. On top of that, it was Monday, and based on their track record, the restaurant was quite busy on Mondays. The minutes ticked by, and more workers started to show up one by one. It was impressive how a small family-run restaurant grew to be quite popular. With the final touches finished, it was time to enter the battlefield.

"Arthur you're up front with the teppanyaki, would you be alright we some plasma egg specials?" His father asked.

"I can manage."

"Benito, you'll help him as well, as for the rest of you serve those tables to perfection!"

"Yes Mr. Jayden!" They proudly exclaimed

With that, the morning rush started, and many customers already started filling in. For Arthur, that meant it was time to put on a show. Three customers sat before him, and they already knew what they wanted.

"We would like the plasma egg special, oh and more extra cheese." One of them said

"Coming right up." It was there Arthur activated his Semblance, plasma. At face value such semblance would be difficult to control but after almost 12 years of practice it's safe to say Arthur has a good handle on his power. A gentle yet warm red flame appeared at the end of his spatula as the flame spread across the stove as he expertly cooked the eggs to perfection.

After the show, he finishes the eggs and gives them to the waiting customers. "Sorry that took a while, hope you enjoy your meal." Arthur said

So, they did it openly giving their praise as they enjoyed their breakfast. With the morning rush not slowing down any time soon. "Please do be shy, the Blue Diner is here to offer a good meal and a show so stick around and be sure to tell everyone about your experience!"

As the morning rushed slowed to a crawl it gave Arthur a much-needed break after all the specials he cooked. As he was in the break room his father walked in.

"Ha, I was hoping I find you here. I need you to run a quick errand."

"Sure pops, what might that be?" He asked

"I just did a count, looks like we might need a bit more lemon and lime for the lunch fish special. Considering the rush has died down, mind going to Ms. Mary's store and picking them up?"

"Sure, I don't mind." As he got up to get ready her father stopped him. "What's up?"

"Take your weapon with you." Jayden said

Arthur only slightly looked at his father, "I haven't touched it, brothers know how long. Why the sudden request anyway? I've gone to Ms. Mary's stare plenty of time before." He asked

"Come on, Arthur, you seen the news lately, with that gang fight at the docks a couple of weeks back. I'm just saying I'll feel much better if you take it with you." Arthur saw the look his father was giving him, truth be told it hard not to ignore what happen at the docks. Honestly a simple pick up for some fresh fish and he gets caught in the crossfire, some luck he had.

"It's not like it's going to happen again, that was just…bad timing."

"Arthur."

"Okay okay fine…but only to stop making you so worried."

"Good, go get changed I'll have the check ready for you before you go." He said as Arthur gave him a nod before going to change. As he got the check read Benito walked in as well.

"Sorry, Compadre, Ididn't want you to think I was eavesdropping on your conversation." As he reached for the mini-fridge and got himself a drink.

"Don't be, it wasn't really a conversion. More of a disagreement if I had to put aa label on it. But I have my reason after the incident at the docks how could I not worry for him?"

"As a father should…how long has it been? If I may ask, since Arthur touched his weapon?"

"Ten years…" He answered quietly. Benito knew the significance of that number, so he didn't press the issue.

"Well, don't worry too much about him, Jayden; Arthur has some serious talent. It's just a shame he doesn't do anything with it."

Jayden only signed softly, "I'm just grateful he's slowly coming around; you were there when it happened. I was a mess and Arthur…looking at us where we are now and where we were ten years ago…it's a massive improvement."

"Well on a light note, we still need to get back to work boss." As he finished say that Benito's daughter Cintha came barging in

"There you two are; hello, we still have a restaurant to run, and two of our three chefs are just in here having a drink." She exclaimed a bit annoyed. As they got ready to resume the day, Arthur came back and changed into a more comfortable look. A plain black shirt with a bright red hoodie and blue jeans that had a bit of protection around the knees. His hair was done in a nice ponytail with some sticking out in front like a fang.

Jayden looked to his left side and saw his weapon hand on his waist. If he was being honest, he thought Arthur would just ignore him and go without it anyway.

"Alright, I'm ready,"his father handed him the check. "I'll be back quick before the lunch rush starts."

It was an average late morning in the city of Vale as Arthur made his way toward Ms. Mary's local store. It was only a twenty-minute walk, so it was relatively close, giving him plenty of time to make it back for the lunch rush. Since it was a seafood special day, it would undoubtedly be packed.

Still, his mind wandered a bit as he felt the weight of his weapon at his side. Technically, it was 'against' the law to carry a weapon without proof of a student ID saying you were a huntsman in training, but luckily, he still had a permit his father made him get last year on the off chance he ever needed it. He groan a bit in annoyed having to carry it to store, honestly it was just one time and the one time he was in the right place but wrong time there is an armed conflicted that happens.

Arthur couldn't wrap his head around it. Usually, you have to go and look for trouble, but his luck just so happens; It was the opposite trouble found him, and to be frank, it wasn't particularly scary, just…irritating, fighting…especially fighting for some person you don't even know the name to just didn't sit right with him. People willing to risk their lives to save someone else…Arthur couldn't see the point in it.

'Why…why did you go?' He thought to himself as he continued down the street. As he turned the next corner the store came into view, Mary's Store the sign read as he gave a small smile. As he stepped through the entrance, he was greeted by a little bell that rang and soon an old lady it her early 70s popped her head from the counter.

"Arthur!" Despite her age she effortlessly made her way over to him as she was starting to give him a hug, with the difference in height Arthur bend down to revied her hug.

"Hi granny how you been." Arthur has known Ms. Mary well…for as long as he could remember, ore so the times when his father and mother went to do a couple of mission; Ms. Mary was more than happy to assist in babysitting. So much so one day she just started calling herself his granny, and Arthur was in no position to argue that.

"Did my old man call you?"

"Oh don't call him that, yes he called. How is he by the way." She asked

"He's good."

"Good health is all we can ask for in this world. And yourself my little angel." She said

"If…been good."

She only looked at him as she knew he was hiding something. "Okay…and a recent trip to the docks was just normal?"

Arthur signed a bit "Not you too granny."

"OH, don't give me that someone has to tell you, and I don't care if you already heard this from your father, but your mother, may she rest in peace, would have told you the same thing. It's dangerous out there, Arthur; I'm just glad Maribel's gift to this world wasn't hurt." She said as she lightly squeezed my hand with hers

"I'm okay, really. I am granny. I can take care of myself, " he reassured her.

"Well, let's get you your order, Michael." She called out and young man appeared. "Be a dear, and please get the order under 'Myrddin. '" As he went to get his order Arthur couldn't help but notice how young he was maybe barely turning 17. "He just started here last week if you were wondering, trying to save up a bit of Lien before heading off to Beacon. You know I'm pretty sure they are still taking applications to it, it's not to late to consider going this year."

Granny really didn't mean any harm by it, but it felt like a punch to the gut every time someone brought up that topic. Even his father had long stopped entertaining that idea. Almost forcing a smile, he turned to her, "I'll think about it."

As the young man returned with crates of limes and lemon, he handed her the check. "If you have time granny it's seafood special today. I can make you that piece of Salmon you like so much." He offered

"I'll make time then and Arthur…please don't let your talents go to waste okay." She added before Athur was out the door, crates in hand.

Thanks to his Aura, carrying it wasn't a big deal; besides, only a twenty-minute walk with some added weight was nothing to lose sleep over. As he walked there was a sudden shift in the air, Arthur didn't notice at first but as he walked on his sixth sense was telling him something.

'Weird…It feels like the ground is shaking' He stopped for a bit and an annoyed person passed him

"Hey watch it dumbass!"

'Mondays' Arthur thought as he set the crates down and placed a hand on the ground. 'I must look like a complete idiot right now but I'm not crazy am I?' Then the small rumble stopped, 'Yup I must be completely-

BOOM!

Down the street, the ground split open, and a train barreled out into the air and crashed down on the ground. A smoke cloud followed, accompanied by a massive eruption of concrete as small bits of rubble rained down from the earth.

"What in the world?!" Arthur looked down then from the sky a piercing screech filled the air as a giant Nevermore flew across the sky and headed towards the center of vale. "What kind of Monday is this! AHHH!" Another crack in the earth as it was much nearer to Arthur as he got himself together and ran towards a save place.

As he ran he caught a glimpse of the many Grimm coming from the earth. Ursa, Beowolf, and Boarbatusk alike spilled from the crack. Taking cover in a nearby alleyway, Arthur mostly groans in irritation as his terrible luck.

"Honestly, what kind of luck is this, on top of it being a Monday to boot? It's fine all I have to do is just make it back to the restaurant, and it's smooth sailing. Looks like the huntsman have their work cut out for." He said as he quickly exited the alley and made his way to the restaurant, swiftly avoiding any Grimm in his path. Just as he was making his way through the streets of Vale now crawling with Grimm a Deathstalker came rushing towards him as Arthur barely managed to dodge it by enter a narrow alley once again.

"What a mess this is. Thank goodness you're too big to fit in here." The Grimm tried with all his might, but the building on each side of it was making it difficult. However, the weight of the Grimm would soon be too much as the side began to crumble. "Damn not good."

His right hand went to his left side as he felt the hilt of his weapon graze his finger, but he hesitated still not drawing his weapon. The Deathstalker inched closer, but before the build gave way, it stopped and headed down the street. Arthur breathed a sigh of relief as he took his hand of his weapon. Slowly exiting the alley, he scanned his surroundings as it was still mayhem as Grimm and huntsman and huntresses alike battled each other. Then another explosion went off this time in a direction Arthur feared.

" !" With his mind made up, he sprinted toward the direction from which he came as he feared the worst. 'It's OK, she probably got away in time, maybe the explosion wasn't near her place.' He thought to himself as he neared the area where the explosion took place. The good news was that the store didn't take the direct hit, but the sight before him made him freeze.

Ms. Mary on the ground as the young man was trying his best to defend her from the giant Deathstalker, there was not time to be hesitant, if he didn't move Ms. Mary… no Not NoW I won't LeT SomEONE ElsE No…I refuse.

"Get back get back." The young man cried out as he swung the broom stick in a panic. "Stay back. I won't let you hurt her." The Deathstalker closed in as he prepared for the worst.

"Pick on some your own size RRAHH" In a swift motion Arthur hit the Deathstalker with the sheathe of his weapon with such force it through the beast if balance for a bit. The Grimm quickly retaliated as it counter, but Arthur quickly used his sheathe to block and parry the giant claw of the Grimm. "Burn," activating his semblance for a split second, the Grimm back off for just a moment.

"Are you okay?" Arthur asked

"Y-Y-yes, I am."

Quickly Arthur turned his attention to the old woman on the ground. "How is she?"

"She's okay. We didn't get hit that hard, but the Grimm shook up the place a bit, and she got hit in the head. But there's no bleeding, so I think it's just a slight concussion, but hopefully not." The young man was clearly worried for her safety

"Listen, there's a basement at the back of the store it's built pretty sturdy; take her there and stay there. I'll deal with this beast; I'll come get you as soon as I'm done and take her to a nearby shelter, understood?" He asked him and he simply nodded before carefully taking Ms. Mary in his arms and carrying her to the back.

With that taken care of, Arthur again turned his attention to the now slightly angrier Deathstalker. "Okay beast, last time I hesitated," as Arthur gripped his hilt with his right hand, drawing the bladeless sword from its sheathe, "But now you've done something that can only be paid with your miserable life." Activating his semblance to its full potential, amber-colored eyes now glow a bright amber color as a red flame blade formed from the hilt.

"I hear Deathstalker armor is pretty tough. Let's put that to the test, shall we." The Deathstalker once again attacked him with a claw, but this time Arthur met it with his blade, and as a hot knife through butter, his blade effortlessly cleaved through the armor of the Grimm and took his claw in one swing of his blade. The Grimm howled in pain as it tried to attack with his other claw but Arthur was already on the offensive as another swing of his blade sliced the other one off.

"Yup pretty tough stuff you got there, but…"He pointed his blade towards the clawless Grimm, "There's nothing my Excalibur can't cut." The Grimm now resorted to its stinger on its tail as it started the attack, but Arthur managed to side step it and charge towards the Grimm as he slid underneath it and stick his sword right down the middle of the Grimm and sliced it clean in half.

Both halves fell as it turned to dust, and Arthur quickly got back up from the ground. "Not bad after not touching you for so long." He said as he looked at his weapon. But unfortunately for Arthur, his job wasn't done as more Grimm slowly started to creep towards him.

'Damn, I need to make a path so I can get Ms. Mary to a safe place. Alright, it's time to buckle down.' Arthur stared at the one closest to the store as the three Beowolfs quickly fell to his blade. 'I have to be careful; I don't know how long I can keep this up. Just a single path, that's all I need.' With a path almost cleared he quickly made his way to the store's basement.

Quickly, he opened the door and was met with a broomstick to the face. "Ouch…good to see she's in safe hands, listen keep up with me. There should be an evacuation center near this place. We will take her there, so don't fall behind I'll be right behind you to clear a path." Athur explained to the man.

"Okay I understand." He carefully took her in his arms and carried her out as they started to make their way to the center. As they encounter some Grimm, Arthur quickly takes care of them. 'I really wish I practiced a bit more if I knew this would happen; my aura levels are already running low, downside to my semblance isI burn through aura like crazy. I have to be smart when I use my semblance. '

The three of them made their way through the streets as they came across a crossroads; there stood another Deathstalker, and from its appearance, it was a bigger one. "Get behind me." He instructed the young man. Arthur felt his aura running dry between defending and clearing path it took its toll on his aura, and feeling his has enough for one last attack, he had to make it count. "A single strike is all I'll need. Hey kid, listen, I only have enough for one more attack, so when I say 'go,' you run as fast as you can towards the evacuation center and keep her safe, alright."

"But what about you?" he asked concerned.

"Don't worry I'm quick on my feet just got to take care of this little roadblock. Now are you ready?"

Tightening his grip on Ms. Mary, making sure she wouldn't fall, he nodded toward Arthur as he charged towards the Deathstalker; using his sheathe, he hit the Grimm square on its claws at it and slammed its stinger into the ground, attempting to stab Arthur. The stinger grazed his shirt as it ripped from the stinger, and he was barely able to avoid that attack; as he tried to regain his balance, the Grimm swung one of his claws towards Arthur, prompting him to block with his sheathe to lessen the impact.

As claw met metal Arthur was sent back a couple of feet from the impact as he drove the sheathe into the ground giving him some extra traction. "Damn that one hurt." As he slowly got up the kid made the call and bolted towards the small opening that was made. But the Deathstalker quickly caught on as it slammed it's tail on the ground blocking his path.

Taking his sheathe in hand Arthur threw it at the Grimm hitting it on the side of it's head, "Eyes here ugly." Arthur charges at it, igniting Excalibur once again. "Burn like the rest of them." The Grimm tried to counter with a claw, but it was met with the flames of his blade. It sliced through the thick armor, and Arthur jumped over it andcut the Grimm right down the middle. Landing on the other side of the Grimm it fell into a black cloud just as his aura flickered as well as his blade, he was at his limit.

"That's all I got, go now!" He yelled at him but a Beowolf jumped down a rooftop and was about to land a direct hit on the kid and Ms. Mary. 'No no no… Please just one more.' Arthur had nothing left as he franticly tried to close the gap between him and them. Time seemed to slow as the Grimm was just about to make contact when a dust bullet landed on its head, killing it instantly.

On the opposite side of the rooftop a team on huntsman and huntresses came down from the rooftop the two boys went towards Michael as the two girls headed towards my direction.

"Are you okay? You're not hurt, are you? " one girl asked. Arthur looked and saw two tall brown bunny ears atop her head, indicating she was a Faunus.

"I-I'm alright, we need to get the two of them to the nearby shelter!" I quickly said but the other girl stopped me.

"Whoa, keep your pants on. If you didn't notice, we are cleaning up the last of the Grimm. It turns out it was just a small Grimm force, " the girl with sunglasses said as Arthur took a moment to calm down and sit on the ground for a bit.

"I see…alright I'm glad…But that doesn't change that the elderly woman is hurt; she needs a doctor," Arthur explained.

"Don't worry we got you covered; hey Fox how is she looking?"

"She's going to be okay. I already gave the boy directions for a doctor." Fox turned to Michael, "Please take her there and have them look her over. She'll be fine after some rest."

"T-T-Thank you…Arthur! Thank you; you really saved us, " he said as he started to walk away.

"I got to say pretty impressive taking on that many Grimm and an Alpha Deathstalker all by yourself." The girl in glasses said

"COCO! We could have jumped in and helped sooner!" The bunny Faunus protested.

"Relax BunBun by the looks of things he had it under control, plus we could have step in and helped if things got really out of hand."

'HA EHEH really some kind of joke you think this is…honestly all huntsman…are just the worst.' Arthur thought as he got up from the ground; as he did, the Faunus offered him a hand, but he simply ignored it. Walking past them and towards his sheathe on the ground as he picked it up.

"Umm, excuse me. Are you sure you're okay to be moving?" Arthur turned to look at the girl in question; the Faunus clearly worried

"I'm fine…thank you for your assistance." As he started to walk away from them, a voice and approaching footsteps stopped him, causing him to stop and turn.

"Hey, listen, dude, you got some serious skills. If you haven't already, Beacon is taking application forms, and… just in luck, I can give you a letter of recommendation for helping out in a time of need." She said as she handed him a paper. "Just show them this when you submit your application. It's not every day they see a letter of recommendation, so it will help out a lot."

Arthur looked at the paper in her hand and saw her name: Coco Adel…Without saying another word, Arthur took the paper and headed back home. The walk home was more exhausting than ever. As he walked, he saw the mess the Grimm had caused and even the giant hole left by the train. Whatever happened wasn't just an accident; something bigger was at play here. But that was someone else's problem, not his.

Turning the last corner, the restaurant came into view, and he saw his father standing outside the entrance. When he caught sight of his son, he quickly ran up to him and embraced him. The sudden hug from his father caught him a little off guard, but Arthur quickly returned his embrace.

"You little bastard…Brothers I was worried about you." His father said

Arthur slightly pulled away. "Sorry to worry you, butI got caught up in something."

"Something is right. I sent everyone home early. Luckily, we didn't get hit hard." It was then that he saw the rip on the front of his black shirt. Arthur, are you okay? What happened?"

"I'm fine, Dad…there was a Grimm near Ms. Mary's store…I fought it off; then I had to help one of her workers carry her away cause she got hurt. But some huntsman said she would find her at the evacuation center getting looked at." He explained the story

"You fought off a Grimm…Arthur, that means…"

"I'm tired pops…can I get some rest please." He quietly said.

"Sure…get some rest; I'm glad you're safe, son." His father said and Arthur simple nodded and went upstair to his room.

Right now wasn't the right time, but simply hearing that his son fought off a Grimm and won filled him with pride. But Jayden still saw that look in his son's eyes, it was to be expected…he still hasn't really forgiven himself after all these years.

It was now the last afternoon. After a shower, Arthur stared out his window. From here, he had a nice view of Vale and, more specifically, Beacon Academy. Today was a crazy day. After so many years, he finally used his weapon, but even after all that, the words still plagued him—the words he said to his mother on her last mission.

'HOW COULD YOU CARE ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE THAT YOU NEVER MET MORE THAN YOUR OWN SON? I HATE YOU, MOM; I HATE YOU!'

Arthur took a sudden breath as he took out the paper that was handed to him. Opening his window, he stuck out his hand with the paper, igniting his semblance. The paper burned to ashes as it drifted away in the evening wind.

"Becoming a huntsman…what a waste of time."

Authors Note: I had this idea building up probably for the past two years maybe give or take. The idea of what happens at Beacon during the main story of RWBY since we know very little of what happens after only a few clues. So the idea was born and it is the perfect time to stick a complete OC team in here and explore the Kingdom of Vale and Beacon, I hope you enjoy this journey with these four boys and hope to come to enjoy them as much as I have creating their personalities and backstories.
