Cyril Leon POV

.

"And I'm super fast!" Ruby says as she moves around the room in rapid bursts of petals. "Over here! Now I'm here! By the window! Made you look!"

Weiss thought it'd be a good idea to talk about our semblances and combat styles. And of course, Ruby jumped at the idea. And has yet to stop.

"She can also carry people with her when she does this." I say from the desk by the window.

"I was getting to that!" Ruby pouts as she appears in front of me.

"And yet I got to it faster." I say with a smirk.

"Hrrrmmmm!" She pouts more, her fists balled up at her sides.

I merely stick my tongue out at her.

"Anyway!" She says, quickly turning from me. "My secondary gives me perfect spatial awareness! I always know which way is north and it is im-possible for me to get dizzy."

She finishes with what I assume to be a heroic pose. Hands on her hips, nose upturned.

"Very good Ruby." Weiss says as she stands up, pulling out her sword. "As the one to suggest this, I'll go next. I fight primarily with my rapier, Myrtenaster, a dust infused aluminum steel alloy with highly veritable dust conductivity, a Geraltian original design."

"Ooh!" Ruby says as she zips over to inspect it. "I knew it was beautiful, but you never said it was Geraltian!"

"Um, yeah." I say as I raise my hand. "That means nothing to me. Should it?"

"Geralt of Mantle is a legendary weaponsmith of the modern age!" Ruby suddenly starts gushing as she runs in front of me. "Or, he was. He retired five years ago. Myrtenaster is probably one of his last pieces ever!"

'Oh, neat.' I think to myself.

"Unfortunately not." Weiss says with an apologetic smile, earning Ruby's attention. "Yes, it is an original design. But he was unwilling to forge it himself. I don't know the full details as this was a gift. And I felt it'd be rude to ask."

"Oh." Ruby calms down. "Well, that's still something!"

Weiss's smile becomes more real as she nods at Ruby's words.

"Yes, and I take pride in the fact." She says. "Aside from that, it has an eight cylinder twenty two revolver built into the hilt set to fire down at a slight angle. The top of the blade having indention to act as rifling for the bullet."

"So, the blade is essentially half a barrel, and a bayonet?" I ask to clarify.

"Hmm." Weiss hums in thought. "I suppose that is an apt description." She says before holding a hand up to reveal a small glyph. "Aside from that, I contain my family's inherited semblance. Collectively known as Glyph. Everyone who's had it, displays it a little differently, but in my case I excel at it's utility and more versatile applications. Creating platforms and using dust combinations to further enhance the versatility of the glyphs. My secondary, allows me to sense hostility. This works on Grimm as well as people."

'That's honestly useful.' I think to myself.

What I'm realizing is that secondary semblances tend to be almost purely utility. Little direct combat use, but useful towards overall survival. In other words, primary semblances are big and flashy weapons. While secondary are subtle tools.

"I'm fast and pride myself on my precision." Weiss says with a smile.

"I'll go next." I say as I raise my hand, not getting up from my seat. "I'm strong, and have little combat training. But I can think on my feet. My weapons are twin bearded axes originally made by two asshole brothers-"

"Hey!" Ruby says. "Language!"

"They made them without a gun built in." I say as I look at her.

Her angy face goes to a more subtle, contemplative one.

"You are forgiven for your harsh words." She says with a gesture to continue. "You may proceed."

Rolling my eyes at her antics. I take an axe out of its holster.

"They're very versatile." I say as I mess with the switching mechanism. Demonstrating its hand scythe, khopesh, and long axe modes. Returning it back to its shorter bearded axe form, I latch the pommel to my vambrace and let the axe fall slightly to demonstrate its chain. "The pommels can also attach, extending the axes out into a double sided glaive. Oh, and you already heard about the forty five rounds. Courtesy of our resident weaponsmith. And you already know its name."

I'm not changing it. Winter's Thorn is an awesome name and I suck at naming things.

Returning my axe to its holster, I continue.

"My main semblance is, versatile, but inherently destructive." I say. "There is no way for me to safely demonstrate it here without destroying the room."

At least, not at this time. Some of the tamer shouts I could probably do later on. But as it stands, I only know two. The force shout, and the whirlwind sprint.

"Aww." Ruby pouts.

"Rather bold claim." Blake finally pipes up.

"One I'm willing to back up if you all want." I offer with a shrug. "But I won't be cleaning up the mess."

"I'll take that bet." Blake says.

"Me too!" Ruby raises her hand.

"Absolutely not!" Weiss says, putting her foot down. Literally, she stomped.

"And that's two against two." I say with a shrug.

"No!" Ruby protests. "It's two on one! Two people voted yes, Weiss voted no."

"Do I not count as a person?" I say with a mocking look of offense. One that gets a roll of the eyes from Blake. "I didn't know you thought so lowly of me Ruby. I thought we were, partners."

"I'm not falling for that one." She says with a huff. "And even then. As your partner my vote should count as two seeing as I'm closer to you! Three on two, so there!"

"By that logic I get three." I point out as I rest my chin on my fist. "So there."

"He's not doing it Ruby." Blake says before turning to address me. "What's your passive?"

"I think fast." I say simply, earning a flat stare. "Seriously, it allows me to stay calm and react to things appropriately when in effect."

That's the best way I can phrase it without going too much into detail. And yeah, I'm down playing it on purpose. I've no doubt the inconsistencies and refusal to elaborate in my backstory is raising brows. So standing out is not what I need right now.

"Think fast!"

Using my semblance, I see Ruby tossing one of the throwing knives on her belt at me.

'Huh, so those aren't for show.' I idly note.

Deciding to show off, I let the knife get close as I move my head, and catch it with my teeth. Yes I am ripping off Dante from the second game. Or was it third? Oh well.

Cutting off my semblance, I throw my head back, making it look like it just hit me. Even though the hilt of the knife is sticking straight up.

"Ruby!" Weiss cries out in shock. "That was uncalled for!"

"He said he could think fast!" Ruby defends. "I didn't mean to, wait."

I bring my head back up, smiling with the blade between my jaws. Enjoying the reactions I got. Weiss is flabbergasted, Ruby is in awe, and Blake, is Blake.

"Sho yeah." I say as I grab the knife. "I think fast."

I hold the knife out for Ruby to take back. Which she does after wiping down the part that was in my mouth.

"You said you have no combat training?" Weiss asks. "Then how did you get accepted into Beacon?"

"Oh, funny story." I laugh. "I didn't. I was abducted by a drunk and dropped off on the lawn. After meeting Oz who, for some reason, gave me an open spot. That same drunk beat the crap out of me for hours on end before tossing me into the woods, collecting me, and now I'm here."

"You could've just said it was luck." Blake says with a mildly annoyed look.

"Why does that sound familiar." Ruby mutters to herself.

'Oh if only you knew.' I think as I fail to keep the smirk off of my face.

"But my fair maiden!" I say with a hand to my chest. "I am but relaying the honest truth to you. For so whether or not you believe it, tis none concern of mine."

I don't care if they believe me or not. Qrow is Ruby's uncle. They'll have to meet eventually, and the look on their faces when they realize I was being serious will be priceless.

"Anyway, I suppose it's my turn." Blake says as she takes out her weapon. "This, is Gambol Shroud. It's a variant ballistic chain scythe. The sheathe is also a cleaver and the sword is capable of turning into a sickle. It's also a pistol and the ribbon on the pommel is an elastic ballistic weave."

"I'll once again pretend to have understood that." I say.

"Not everything needs commenting on." Blake says.

I just shrug at her words. Not feeling in the mood to feed her, whatever gripe she has on me. Maybe she's just racist? She's not like this towards Ruby or Weiss.

"Blake, please be nice?" Weiss asks the brooding racist cat girl. Actually no, she doesn't even have a tail. She's a half cat girl.

"I didn't do anything." She defends.

"It's fine Weiss." I say with a wave. "I'm not bothered."

"Be that as it may." Weiss says with a serious face. "I'd rather not my, this team start off on such a bad foot."

"Um, I feel like I'm missing something." Ruby says.

"I said something racist without thinking and now Blake's being a pissy kitty." I tease.

"See!" Blake shouts, pointing at me.

"See?" I say.

"What'd you say?" Ruby asks.

"I said she was so closed off she couldn't be more cagey if she were locked up." I say with a shrug.

"Oh." Ruby says with a thoughtful expression, tapping her finger to her chin as she looks to the ceiling. "That's, border line racist. But not explicitly so. Trust me! I've heard, way worse."

"Just because there's worse doesn't make the lesser stuff better!" Blake growls.

"I think this is just her thing." I shrug, ignoring the girl.

"Hmm, just avoid mentioning cages and Faunus in the same sentence." Ruby advises helpfully.

At least someone is willing to offer help here! Ruby Rose, I hereby dub thee, best girl.

"That's not the issue!" Blake shouts, again.

"Then what is?" Ruby asks with a tilt of her head.

'Her ears move with her head.' I note. 'Neat.'

"Have you, are, you know what?" Blake says before raising her hands in surrender. "Forget it. It's not worth it."

'And now I'm confused.' I think to myself.

Weiss Schnee POV

.

I can't sleep.

He's right there. Less than twenty feet away, on his side sleeping.

He didn't even go to the bathroom to strip his clothes off! He just walked in while we were in our beds, and stripped! Sure, we should've been asleep. But he didn't know that for sure! I mean, I saw everything. His back, his shoulders, thighs, chest, abs. He was practically modeling!

Now he's just there. Practically naked under the covers! In a room full of girls! Has he no shame!?

None of my tutors prepared me for this! A few told me to expect cohabited dorm rooms with a variety of individuals, but I never expected said individuals to have so little decorum! And my teammates are making it seem as though I'm the one with a problem over it!

I need to stop thinking about it. Focus on something else.

I did note that he sleeps with his weapons under his pillow. Which, is a bit odd. But, I can see how one would develop such a habit living in the outskirts. They're very dangerous as compared to the main kingdoms.

What is wrong with me?

Cyril Leon POV

.

"Good morning Team-"

"Too early Ruby!" I shout as I'm woken up.

"Well too bad!" She huffs next to my bed. "It's our first day and we need to get to class in an hour!"

I turn from my side to stare at the ceiling. Blinking the fog from my eyes. Feeling not at all awake enough to move. Closing my eyes in that ritual we all do when we lie to ourselves about just needing more time to get up.

"Wake up!" She says as she takes my pillow.

"Agh!" I hiss as my head hits the flat side of one of my axes. "Mrmph!" Is my huff as Ruby smacks my face with the pillow.

"Up!" She shouts.

"Okay okay!" I say as I turn to sit up, noticing the water already running in the bathroom. "Geez."

Looking up at the girl still in her pajamas. She nods affirmingly before walking back over to her own bed and dresser.

"Can I have my pillow back?" I ask.

"Later!" She shouts. "You'll just use it to fall back asleep!"

I mean, she's not wrong per se. But still. That's my pillow.

Looking over, I see Weiss with the shifty eyes. Looking over to my legs and chest before looking back at her dresser. Before finally noticing me looking at her, causing her to blush harder and focus entirely on her clothes.

I'm not awake enough to mess with her.

.

.

-45 minutes later-

.

.

"Move!" Ruby shouts as she pushes me from behind. "We're gonna be late because of you!"

"Well it's not my fault someone used all the hot water!" I shout as I glare at Weiss.

We're in our beacon uniforms. While carrying our combat equipment with us. The school allows us to modify our look to them within a set of guidelines. No destroying the sleeves, the jacket is optional, students may use the skirt or pants. Men are allowed to wear the skirts by the way. They're just given pants and girls skirts as the default so, progressive. Or, normal. Depends, I don't know about this place well enough to know if that's a concern or not.

Anyway, I decided not to use the jacket, and use my own blue long coat instead. And Ruby is wearing her hood.

"Some of us need our time to freshen up!" She defends. "Perfection is not a thing to be rushed."

"Thirty minutes, is excessive!" I hiss as we race down the hall. "You took ten minutes yesterday, what's so special about today?!"

"Well, it's um, I just want to make a good first impression on our teachers!" She defends with a massive blush. "So I needed to make sure I was as proper as could be!"

I stare at her flatly as I run., well, stumble with how Ruby is pushing me.

"Sounds to me like you could've used a cold bath." I mutter.

"Cyril lay off." Blake says as we approach the double doors to the arena, room, gymnasium?

"Move!" Ruby shouts with a final shove, knocking me through the doors and onto my face.

Getting to my feet just as the bell rings, I can't help but be annoyed at how close we were to being late. I'm never this late. And it's all because Weiss was likely attending to herself too much.

"We made it!" Ruby shouts, jumping up with her arms raised in victory.

"You almost didn't." I hear the voice of Taiyang echo from the center of the room. Dressed much in the same outfit as from canon. "I taught you better."

"No." Ruby suddenly stops.

Looking over to her, I see a look of sheer mortification. Dread and fear draining what little color she has from her face.

"Hey gemstone!" Taiyang says with a wave and a grin. "I got that new job I was talking about!"

"Ruby, do you know him?" Weiss asks, staring down at the sandy blonde.

"I'll go get our seats." I say with a grin as I move right to the front.

"No!" Ruby hisses as she latches onto my arm. Trying, and failing to pull me back. "We can take the back! The back is good! It's by the windows and we can get a good view of everything!"

She's making a massive scene. Getting looks from everyone as we make our way down the steps. And I'm loving it like McDonalds from the early two thousands. Though, as I get closer and see Tai more clearly. I see that not only does Ruby likely take after her mother more, I see that Ruby and Tai share no features. Like, at all. She does share a skin tone and general build with a certain drunk I've met though.

Thoughts for later. For now, embarrass Ruby.

"Come on, there's a spot right there." I say, pointing with the arm she's trying to tug. "We can practically have the whole row to ourselves."

I am just eating this up.

"Cyril!" Weiss says as she jogs up to us. "While I appreciate the sentiment of wanting to be closer to the teacher, decisions like this should be left to the team."

"Hey teach!" I shout with a raised hand. "Can we have the front row?"

"It's open." He says with an easy going shrug. "I don't really do assigned seats so, just feel free."

"Cool." I say with a thumbs up as I move over and sit on the bench.

There are no desks, it's more or less bleachers all built in a half circle around the large open ring. The back having three sets of double doors. One says Lockers, Maintenance, and Staff only.

"Why?" Ruby groans.

"Ruby, do you, know him?" Weiss asks, not taking her eyes off of Tai's bare chest.

"He's my dad." Ruby groans into her hands.

"Th-that's your father?" Weiss asks with a blush.

'Oh please don't add daddy issues to her list.' I pray, not that I think it'll work.

"How did you not know he was teaching?" Blake asks. "His name is on the syllabus."

"I skimmed it okay?" Ruby whines.

"Alright!" Tai says, his voice echoing. "Quiet please! … Thank you. Now then, welcome to day one of combat class my little first years! I remember when I was in your same spots right now. Well, not really. My spot got wrecked in my third year and needed to be replaced but, it's the thought that counts! I'm your teach, Taiyang Xiao Long. You can call me whatever, just don't call me late for dinner." He says with a wink and a finger gun at no one.

"Kill me." Ruby groans.

I can't keep the smile off my face as this goes on. With Ruby dying of embarrassment, and Weiss dying of poorly hidden thirst. I imagine I'm gonna be entertained for a while.

"For most of you this class needs no real introduction. For those that do need an introduction, there's not much to say." Tai says as he starts pacing. "Here, you'll fight each other in pitched matches where I'll be able to observe your strengths and weaknesses first hand in a controlled environment, and we'll go from there." He finishes with putting his hands in his pockets. "Any questions?"

'No!' I tell myself. 'Wait for the right time.'

"Very well then!" He says, clapping his hands together. "Today will be about getting a baseline. Some of you have your fighting styles and techniques well documented." He gestures up towards the bleachers above us.

Turning around and looking back, I see him gesturing to Team PRJN. Likely Pyrrha by how she's giving a practiced smile and a wave.

"And some, less so." He gestures over to-

'Is that Team CRDL?' I think to myself as they have not changed. 'How is it that they got in? Are they actually good?'

"As such, today I will be pitting those of you who are well documented, against those who are not." He says, pulling a remote out of his pocket and pointing it at the large screen above. "Randomly of course."

"I don't get it." Blake says from the opposite end, leaning forward to address Ruby. "Why are you so upset? Your dad seems cool."

Without warning, Ruby pushes me back and points at Weiss on the other side of me.

"That's why!" She hisses, earning Weiss's attention.

"Hmm? Is, something wrong?" She asks, looking back and forth between all of us.

"See?" Ruby says with serious eyes as she gestures both hands towards the girl.

"Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed." I say as I watch the screen display a series of names.

(Match one: Cardin Winchester Vs. Cyril Leon)

"Ooh. Fun." I say as I stand up.

"Huh?" Ruby says, pausing in her exposure of Weiss.

"Be back." I say with a two fingered salute.

Walking up with my gear in hand, I stand before Tai as Cardin walks up as well. Where I just have my gear in hand, he has his in a duffle bag. And let me just say, he's HUGE! Like, let me just say, Dwayne Johnson, but ginger.

"Alright, lockers are over there. Change as quick as you can and meet back in under five!" Tai says, pointing a thumb at the doors.

I head towards the doors, Cardin by my side. I don't recall him that much. Just that he was a plot piece for Jaune's development. A bully and I'm pretty sure a racist.

"So, my first fight's against a Silver Eyed Warrior huh?" He says as we enter the locker room. "This oughtta be good."

"Not sure what you're expecting, but I can tell you you'll be disappointed." I say as I take a seat on the bench and start dressing down to my underwear. Pretty much just gym class.

There are dressing booths for the more shy off to the side. But, I'm not shy.

"Please, Silver Eyed Warriors are born prodigies." Cardin says with a chuckle as he sits on a bench behind me. "Hell, my dad managed to get me a Silver Eyed instructor when I was ten. Maybe you know them? Does Topaz ring a bell?"

I hear the sound of clanking behind me as he likely has his armor out now.

"Told ya you'd be disappointed." I say as I slide my pants up.

"I'll take that as a no." He says with a slight grunt. "Oh well, you seem chill enough."

"Thanks, I guess." I say as I finish sliding my long coat on.

"The cat had quite a bit to say about you at breakfast yesterday." Cardin says.

"She talked to you?" I ask in disbelief.

"No, but she was next to me in line as I got my food, talking to the bull guy, Aron I think." He says.

"Adam." I correct as I stand up to face him. "Hope it she didn't paint me in too bad of a light. She doesn't really like me."

"You're fine." He says, now fully armored and with mace in hand.

'Huh, maybe all the changes in this world left him better off.' I think with a bit of relief.

"Besides, I don't really put any stock into what those people say anyway." He says gently before patting my shoulder, resting his mace on his. "I really feel for you man, I mean you got stuck with three of them. Good thing it's only four years am I right?"

'For once, I would like to be pleasantly surprised.' I think as I take a breath. 'Is that too much to ask?'

"We oughtta get out there." He says with a nod before heading out. "Don't go easy on me! You can trust that I won't go easy on you!"

.

.

Ruby Rose POV

.

"Who do you think will win?" Weiss asks.

"Cardin." Blake says automatically.

"Hey! Have faith in Cyril." I defend my partner.

I just don't understand what her deal is! She won't lay off of him for some reason. I get that they got off on the wrong foot, and Cyril likes to push buttons. But we're a team for Oz's sake!

"No offense, but all I've seen out of the guy is a hamfisted attempt at killing half a King Tajitu, and nothing but words with nothing to show for it." Blake says.

That's totally not fair!

"You didn't see the horde of Grimm we had to fight!" I defend. "He was literally cutting through Grimm like they were paper!"

We're going to be spending four years together. At least! Does that mean nothing?

"You don't have to defend him just because he's your partner." Blake says as she crosses her arms. "I doubt he'd even talk to you if he didn't have to."

That's, maybe true. I don't know. But neither does she!

"Anyway!" Weiss says as she cuts between our conversation. "I don't know enough about either to make a call. Ruby, do you know anything?" She asks, looking to me.

Mentally thanking her for the distraction. While still being wary of the clearly perverted girl. I noticed her staring at my partner, and my dad!

One, my partner! She needs to back off! Focus on her own partner. Not my fault mine is better.

Two, my dad! Back off! Eew! Have some respect for the girl code!

I'm pretty sure that's in the girl code. If not then it should be.

"Well, Cyril is, okay at speed." I start as I think. "And his technique is sloppy, I don't know. I've only seen him fight Grimm, and there wasn't much of a fight once he beheaded them. Which seems to be his go to."

Not very useful against people with aura. Unless you're trying to kill them. Even then, aura.

"What about Cardin?" Weiss asks. "Mr. Long said he was a well documented fighter. Do you know anything?"

Nothing rings any strong bells, so I look to the screen to get a better idea. He looks, vaguely familiar. But I can't place it.

"Winchester!" I suddenly remember. "Yeah! He's been in a few Valean tournaments. Minor things, got first place a few times. My mom hates his dad though."

"And why might that be?" Weiss asks in concern.

"Um, how do I answer this nicely?" I chuckle nervously. "His dad is, Councilor Winchester, and is uh, not very, nice." I say, before quickly adding. "Towards Faunus."

"Oh." Weiss says as we see Cardin walk out of the locker rooms with Cyril right behind him.

"Hmm, they might get along then." Blake says, almost appreciatively.

"Why are you like this?" I ask, exasperated at this point. "He made, one poor comment. That doesn't make him racist."

Blake goes to say something more, but is cut off by the buzzer initiating the match.

Remnant culture: Modern overview: Part two

.

Menagerie, despite its youth, is a thriving kingdom. Rich in export and culture. The melting pot of this lush and tropical island nation has proven to be nothing but a boon to Remnant as a whole.

On this island, you find nine distinct tribes. Though, do not confuse with family. A tribe in Faunus culture is more of a culture gathering of people raised in a system of beliefs.

The nine tribes that make up Menagerie's cultural landscape are:

The Kahn (K-on), a staunch and hardy people descended from nomadic travelers of Anima. The Kahn have a culture steeped in exploration and utilitarianism. During the times of slavery, the Kahn were mostly kept from the worst of it, by strategic maneuvers and remaining on the move. And controversially, for aiding in the slave trade in exchange for safe passages. Capturing and selling Faunus from other tribes as a means to ensure their own safety.

Known for their tribal tattoo markings that resemble stripes or bangles, a Kahn receives a tattoo after a great accomplishment. Always in a visible location, the Kahn take great pride in their markings, often wearing clothes that display these marks with ease.

Stripes, are for accomplishments in combat.

Spots, are for accomplishments in art.

Bangles, are for accomplishments in diplomacy.

Swirls, are for overcoming significant events.

The Kahn are polygamous and leaders are known to hold many spouses. A unique tradition amongst the Kahn, is that any form of conquest, is to be cemented in marriage. Should that marriage not produce a child within a year, then it is seen as a bad omen. Though, this has been mostly phased out.

There is the Billi (Bee-Lee). The Billi are another that managed to avoid the majority of enslavement in Anima. Though they did so through excellent use of terrain to hide themselves from would be slavers. The Billi are rich in tradition and artistry. Their years of staying hidden from threats lending to the development of a deep and intricate culture of loyalty and respect for the arts. Though, it has also lead to a culture of suspicion. A Billi may readily lay down their life for an ally, but that trust is not easily earned.

They are artistically well known for weaving vine like designs into nearly everything. The designs having different meanings and purpose ranging from protective charms, prayers, and simple decoration. Their family names often reflect their respect for the habitats that kept them safe. Most often being taken after plants.

The Billi are also well known for their plays and contributions to, sensual, arts. Despite this, the Billi are monogamous in practice. Once married, the two partners are dedicated to each other and any breach of that trust is seen as unforgiveable in their culture. And divorce is frowned upon. The idea of lifelong partners is rich in their literature, and the idea of a 'soulmate' has gained a niche following in Remnant as a whole.

The Ylvta (Ee-veta), are a seafaring people tracing their roots to the warm watered south western coastal regions of Anima, and the south eastern shores of Sanus. Masters of seafaring, fishing, and shipbuilding to this day. They are a hearty people. With a culture that puts great emphasis on loyalty and cooperation. Today, most ports and shipping companies on Menagerie are owned either fully, or in part by the Ylvta. Known for their music and board games. Ylvta culture has a further reach than most even realize. With many modern words trace themselves back to them.

The Ylvta, do not believe in marriage. And hold a somewhat open stance on romance. They believe that life, like the seas, is too chaotic and unpredictable, to try and force any stability onto.

The Franz (Franz), are a smaller tribe. Indeed they are perhaps the smallest. And have little notable contribution to culture as a whole. They are warriors, fierce and unyielding. They do not believe in appeasement or surrender. Which, while their bravery is admirable, it is the reason they number so few.

In the past, captured Franz would rebel to their last breath. And many, overseers, saw them as a perfect fit for examples. Which would only spur other Franz into action. Which, lead to the notorious, and horrendous event, known as The Culling Of The Fields.

Today, not much of their culture has survived in full. Few oral traditions and fewer written documents. But their descendants remember their unyielding resolve, and carry it with them as a mark of pride.

The Harse (Har-say), come from Solitas and are an open people. Centuries of oppression has made them an easy going people. Not out of submission mind you! But out of appreciation for what is. Theirs is a culture steeped in philosophy, one that has exploded since the abolition of slavery. They make up a significant portion of the Faunus population on Menagerie. Mostly owed to the fact that they stayed out of the greater Menagerian civil wars.

They are a peaceful and resourceful people. Believing that the world has seen enough violence. And that adding to it, benefits no one in the long run.

The Tarak (Tar-ok), are a hardy people from the deserts of Sanus, most of them can be found in their own communities and towns set up in Menagerie's desert. Famous for their dyes and glassblowing, the Tarak have a history steeped in equal parts artistic revolution, and warfare. The Tarak also do not believe in marriage or even assumed parenthood. The identity of the child's parents is kept to prevent any inbreeding, but by and large the Tarak culture places heavy emphasis on community. Referring to older generations as uncle or aunt, or gramps and grandma. While referring to their peers as brother or sister, and their youngers as niece, nephew, son or daughter depending.

This has led to, several, misunderstandings.

No, the Tarak are not incestuous, they merely have a deep rooted sense of community. Their community, is their family.

The Sausaxe (Saw-sacks),The Sausaxe have a tragic history. Natives to Anima, they were driven from their home by a combination of the slave trade, bandits, and Grimm to the continent of Sanus where they sought refuge in Vale. They were unprepared for the journey, and much of their cultural heritage was lost with their fallen people.

But what has survived is a vibrant spiritual belief system. A rich oral history that is only in recent years being put to paper. The Sausaxe have a deep respect for nature and its wonders, often having names to reflect this. And, unique to their tribe, they have accepted humans as honorary members of their tribe. Alexander Arc is one such man to have been accepted by these people when he spent seven months ensuring a refugee transport of a thousand Sausaxe made it safely across the sea and to the continent of Sanus during the First War of Freedom. Giving him the name Albatross of the Arc. Albatross's, being their symbol of freedom.

The Bull'ak, (Buhl-ack),a militaristic group of people from Solitas. Where the Harse sought safety in pacifism, the Bull'ak incorporated much of Mantillian culture into their own and became a raiding people. So much so, that they were heavily involved in the slave trade, as practitioners. Enslaving many of their own from rival groups, and from the Harse, and the humans of Solitas. To the Bull'ack of days past, if you were not a member of their raiding camp, you were free game.

It is important to know that this is in the past. And it must be remembered that a child should not be blamed for the acts of their parent.

Though, this mentality can still be seen today. If something is valuable, it should be kept safe from others. They find the idea of heirlooms and keepsakes as absurd. Combat training is not a matter of if, but when. Every member of the tribe should have some proficiency with a weapon. A child not knowing how to handle a weapon, is seen as a failure on the part of the parent.

Despite this, they are remarkable merchants and tradesfolk. With great minds when it comes to negotiation. In truth, it is believed by many a historian that their fearsome reputations are greatly exaggerated by the people of Solitas's past who refused to admit they were defeated by the very people they looked down upon. And the modern Bull'ak use this misconception of them being simple minded brutes to their advantage in diplomacy.

The Illeroq (Il-eh-rok), the Illeroq have no cohesive, being made up primarily of slave groups from all walks of life. Their origins are difficult to pin down even for them. And in truth, they don't see the need. To them, the past is the past, important to learn so as not to repeat, but ultimately best left behind. The Illeroq are descendants of those Faunus born and raised in slavery, and make up a disturbingly large portion of the Faunus population.

Their values put great emphases on freedom, community, and patience. A common saying among their people that best sums them up is, "There is a time to act, and a time to prepare. Wisdom, is knowing when those times are."

.

It is important to know that these names, are not universal or even official. Just what is most often associated with each tribe. In truth, many of the "Tribes" are only loosely connected by a common set of values. And the Tribes proper only constitute a meager ten percent of the total Faunus population.

So current love interests are,

Ruby, because she has a romanticized idea of what a partner and team are due to how her family is.

Weiss, because Cyril gave her her sexual awakening. And she has no clue how to process it.
