Regulus sat in the chair in his room with a bottle of fire whiskey on his desk and a glass half full. He was watching the photos dance on his desk of Saphera Snape. She was in a year below him in school, she was the mouse of Slytherin. Though Regulus has seen her become a viper a few times when his older brother pranked her brother. One of the photos that he had she was dancing in the snow one night after curfew while they where on prefects duties. He smiled as he sipped the whiskey, burning the back of his throat. Setting the glass down he fingered the pocket watch that he had in the pocket of his pants. It was a gift that she had given him when he graduated. Picking up the photograph and leaning against the end of the bed remembering the night he finally kissed the girl that he had fallen for harder then anything else.
"My sorry about my brother, he shouldn't have done that." Regulus groaned.
Sirius had some how pulled a prank on Saphera on her way out of the Library earlier that day. She was walking with Pandora Fawlay a Ravenclaw in her year. Phera wasn't paying attention as she spoke about her apprenticeship in the hospital wing with Madam Pumfry. Regulus watched from behind, he promised Severus that he would watch over his sister when he wasn't able to. He watched with a secret smile, Regulus loved how animated Saphera got when she wasn't around her housemates, her brother or him. She was a completely different person around the other Slytherins he grew up with. She hid her true side from those who she didn't trust, mainly because of what had happen in her past with her father. The last summer she had shown up at the Malloy residence after a terrible night of being beaten by her father, she was crying and Narcissia took her in and tried to calm her down. Soon he came over with Severus. Severus was banned from her family home after he confronted his father after an argument.
While Regulus wasn't paying attention to those around the girls, Saphera was doused with a sticking potion and feathers. She stood there owl like eyes staring around her. Pandora was trying to get the feathers to disappear from Saphera's person. Regulus saw Sirius, James Potter, Remus Lumpin and Peter Pettigrew came out laughing at the ordeal that they had caused. Regulus was about to start to confront his brother when he watched Saphera go from her calm demeanor to show why she was Severus's younger sister. He watched her twitch her nose and soon Peter was pinned against the wall and he was beginning to look as though she was transfiguring the boy wandless and wordlessly. Which was impressive for her age of 15 years old. Remus looked to becoming a humanoid chicken as well. All the girl did was wait until all three where transfigured the four of the, into the thing they where trying to have her look like. Once they where transfigured she started to step up after casting her own variation of a scorgify spell. She was clean and back to her normal self as she stepped in front of the other boys.
"Well I hope you three are happy with your selves, trying to Humiliate a 15 year old female classmate. I'm sure that this was set mainly for my brother but you back don't care which Snape you prank, as long as it is a Snape that you get to laugh at. I have never done anything to any of you. Only thing I'm guilty of is being Severus's little sister and a Slytherin. If I'm correct Potter, your own mother is a Slytherin and So are your parents and brother Black. But neither of you care about that. I do plan on sending a letter to Lady Potter about this and everything else you both had done as I'm sure you both with listen to her more then myself and Evans. But I catch you prancing my brother or me one more time you wont like what I do." She spoke with her nose slightly turned up and an even tone, just the way that his cousin taught her to do.
"You and your brother living is enough for me to hate you both." Sirius sneered at her.
"Black, do you remember the day that we first met?" She eyed him evenly.
"Yes you hung to Snivellus and Evans all day that first day of classes, scared out of your wits." He laughed angered.
"Actually you and I met on the train, I accidentally crashed into you and you saw my black eye is was sprouting that day before my brother came to find me." She raised an eye brow at the older boy chicken.
"I'm sure that your evil brother did that to you."
"No, my own father who is an abusive bastard did it the night before because I didn't get him a drink fast enough. SO imagine my surprise when I've learned what happens in the Black house hold is similar to my own summer. But the way we both reacted to it is completely different. I'll be on my way, that spell will reverse after 6 hours. Maybe it will give you time to think about everything." She turned and took Pandora's arm and walked away.
Regulus secretly watched his brother who was sneering at Saphera like a wild dog that was cornered. She simultaneously outed the abuse she face at home as well as the abuse that Sirius faced before he ran from home. Regulus was glad that she didn't outs the fact that he helped his brother get to the Potters that night. Regulus may dislike his brother at the same time he loved him. He couldn't show it at school as he was watched by those his mother was in contact with. He knew that if he tried to contact his brother that his mother may turn on him and try to teach him a lesson as well. Regulus sighed as he fallowed behind the girls. He thought back to the first day he saw the girl when she was sorted. She kept her bangs over her eyes and her hair was pulled back into Dutch braids and cute green bows at the ends of them. He thought she was cute in the group of first years. He was a second year and wasn't up for being a mentor if the girl was sorted into Slytherin. She was quiet when she sat next to him after she was sorted, he helped her by pouring her a goblet of pumpkin juice once the feast had begun.
Later that night he went to Narcissis and asked her to ask to be the girls mentor. That he believed that the Snape-Prince Heiress would be a good project for her. His cousin agreed and went to the Prefects to volunteer her self for the girl. The least he could do was make sure she was looked after instead of tormented.
Walking into the great hall he found Severus Snape sitting and staining at the Gryffindor table at the red head that in 5th year abandoned him and his sister in one day. Severus was still trying to get his friend back so that Saphera could have another female companion at school. Regulus had seen the last few time the 7th year boy had tried to get the red-headed Head Girl to talk to him. It did not end well and the Head Boy Potter got involved. Severus spent the night in the Hospital wing.
"Your sister is slightly scary when crossed Severus." Regulus started.
"She should be, between your cousin and myself she can take care of her self as I will not be here next year." Severus drawled not looking at the younger boy.
"She transfigured the Marauder's into humanoid chickens after she got caught in the prank meant for you. Also told them she would be owning Lady Potter about their actions." Regulus explained waiting for his friend to react.
"She shouldn't be taking anything from them, I told them to leave her alone and out of their pranks." Severus sneered angerly.
"Yes, but as I said they meant that prank for you, but you left 15 minutes before she did which they didn't think about." Regulus rolled his eyes.
Soon Saphera joined them, Regulus stood as the gentlemen he was trained to be and helped her take the seat in between himself and her brother. He noted that she had taken a shower and could smell the sugar apple of her shampoo she used. He poured her a goblet of pumpkin juice as her brother asked her about her day. Severus did not ask about the prank as he knew that she would tell him after they where in the dungeons of the castle after the evening feast.
"Oh Severus, are we spending the holiday with the Malfoy's? Narcissia asked as she wanted to know so that she could have the rooms made up." She asked quietly.
"I believe Regulus has spoken to his mother asking if we could stay there as I inherited the title of Lord Prince this summer until you come of age." Severus explained.
"I see, I will let her know in my letter to her tomorrow. I have a few letters to write then." She hummed.
"Give my cousin my love when you write her Phera." Regulus said bringing the dinner rolls over to her.
"I will Reggi." She smiled at him thankfully.
After dinner Regulus was paired with Phare for rounds in the courtyards and ground level abandoned classrooms. She was humming a holiday song as they checked classrooms for students out of bed. She told him about her apprenticeship that she had gotten in the hospital wing. She asked him to not get hurt to much while playing Quidditch that year. Regulus knew she worried about their house team and the students getting hurt. She had a naturally kind heart when it came to others who where in pain. He had gotten her to talk about her home life over the years, especially after Evans left her high and dry after Severus called the girl a Mudblood out of anger, embarrassment, pride when she was 13 years old. He knew that she was beaten on a regular bases by her father, her mother did nothing to stop it, did not leave the muggle for the sake of her children. Muggle marriage wasn't as binding as it was in the Wizard world. He knew why his own parents couldn't separate. But the Snape's parents could, but that never happened. Last summer when Phera showed up that the Malfoy's she was thrown out by her father with two cracked ribs, a fractured jaw and a broken arm. She begged Severus that the man wasn't worth it, or worth him giving his life up to kill the man that left his sister out in the rain in that condition. The broken bones where nothing compared to the bruises she had before they took her to St, Margos.
"You can see Cassiopeia tonight." Regulus was pulled from his thoughts by Saphera's soft voice.
"Yes you can." He agreed looking up at the clear sky.
"I miss Ice skating in London on nights like this." She laughed.
"We could go ice skating when you stay at my home." He reassured her.
"I'm sure we will be busy with the functions that Severus has to attend and Narcissia has me going to."
"True but I can always sneak you away from it all."
"I don't think that's appropriate behavior of either of us. An outing with out a chaperone, that's scandalous and will have Cissia nearly in a caniption fit if she learns of it."
"My cousin would find that scandalous." Regulus agree watching Saphera walk over to the old weel and sat down watching the sky.
Regulus looked around and made sure that she wasn't paying attention and that none of the other prefects where around. She waved his wand changing the snow to ice and transfiguring his shoes and hers to Ice skates. He gave his wand another wave and the light sound of holiday songs played around them getting Saphera's attention.
"What oils going on?" She asked confused.
"Since we agree that if I sneak you our to London for a Ice Skating trip, I thought the next best thing would be to create an ice rink here for you." He explained, pulling Saphera up to her feet.
Regulus pulled her along while he smiled a rare smile that he didn't show many. He knew that this girl could pull it out of him at anytime. He planned on asking his mother if she thought an alliance between the hous Prince and Black would be a good idea. He knew that he would have to join the Dark lord as it was expected this year after his brother running away. He maybe able to convince his father that this witch here who was laughing as they skated was worth it. She did come from a pure-blood family but her magic was stronger then most of the pure-blood ladies his mother wanted him to meet.
They skated there for a while and soon it began to snow gently. Saphera pulled away from him and spun around. He scarf flying around her and her cloak flailing out. Her head was thrown back and eyes closed with her tongue out trying to catch snow flakes. He had seen these moment before now of her care free nature. His brother was an idiot to think this girl was evil just because she wanted to stay with her brother.
As Saphera straightened out she lost her balance on the ice, he reached out and caught her, but the reaction cause them both to land on the ground with her below him and he staining into her eyes. Those raven purple eyes that showed her excitement for life, when she was hurt by someone's comment towards her, when she was angry about what happens to her brother. Even though her emotions don't show on her face all that often they show in her eyes. Staining down at her he was transfixed on them. He leaned down and captured her lips in a kiss. He felt the magic that coursed through his and her veins. It was like fire that spread through him. When he pulled away he saw her eye lashes get gently covered in snow flakes that made her look even more beautiful.
Clearing his throat he stood up and pulled her to her feet, "We should head back to the common room before your brother comes to look for you." He commented.
"Oh um yes." She agreed and he watched as a blush covered her ears and cheeks.
Coming back from his memory of that day Regulus downed the rest of the glass of Fire Whiskey and sat the photograph back down. He knew that soulmates where rare in the world even rarer in the Wizard world. But the fact that their magic hummed togeather that night and the fact that he was always drawn to her. Regulus performed the soulmate ritual that he found in the family books in the library and the red string of fate lead him to her room that New Year's Eve. But now he would have to find a way to live with out her. The Dark Lord promised both he and Severus that Saphera Snape-Prince would be safe. His promise was broke now that she was killed by Bellatrix.
Grabbing his over coat he striped down to the flue room and called out to Severus for permission to pass through. Regulus wanted to figure out a way to get back at his lunitic of a cousin and cause her as much pain as she caused him in the last few days.
