"Karen, you just need to shut up and mind your own business." Jiya was currently tired of hearing the girl complain. "You guys knew?" She looked at her feeling betrayed, then gave the sweet girl Nicole, a look that made her want to run back home. "And you definitely knew." She had been filling in their lunch table on drama on different things that occurred over the winter break. Although she had texted some of the people in their group, she wanted to confront them all at once. The first week back was already almost over and they certainly noticed the goth chatting with the white haired boy quite often. Karen then began talking about Antonia as soon as she went to the restroom. "You've gotta be kidding me," Donna face palmed and let out a sigh. "So, she's really dating him?" Wally as well was shocked to hear the news. Donna looked up, "I felt like something weird was going to happen when she moved schools, but I just wasn't expecting this." "I swear she's been acting differently since she worked with him on the project. It's even weirder because she went on a date with him after that," Isaiah of course was keeping tabs on the girl and her relationship with the boy. Jiya looked at him agitated, "If you all of a sudden start slut shaming her, I'm going to kick your ass." He whipped his head around, "Who are you to talk? You used to be in their friend group and now you kiss ass for your boyfriend." She glared at Isaiah who was currently very upset. Just as she was ready to argue with him, Wally gripped her skirt, and Mal patted the boy on his back to get him to sit back down. "Nicole," Karen called out the girl, "You aren't saying anything and you're just sitting there." She looked at Joseph who was just as anxious as her and Karen then glanced at him, "Joey. Did you know too?" The boy shook his head quickly and gripped his knee. He in fact was in the loop as Nicole of course told him everything, now that they are dating as well. "Guys," Mal began, "We know it's probably not going to last long. We don't need to make a big deal of this." He began to gently rub Karen's back, she looked at him softly responding "We just don't want her wrapped up in a bad situation." Donna felt ill as she listened to the group talk about the issue. "She's going to get played by him. We don't know what germs he's got," Isaiah suddenly lost his appetite and threw away the last bit of food from his tray. Antonia then came back to the table from the restroom noticing the tension on their faces. She sat down quietly, "Did something happen?" Everyone looked at her with bulging eyes not knowing what to say. Nicole giggled, "No, we were just talking about how much corn dogs Wally can eat in one sitting." She nodded, giving a gentle smile and packed away the wrapping for her sandwich. The other teens exchanged glances and tried to continue a very boring conversation on how much food Wally really could eat. The bell rang and they slowly got up to throw away their food. Nicole then grabbed the girl by her arm as they headed to class with Joseph following behind. Donna stayed behind at the lunch table looking down at the empty tray, Mal then walked back to her, "Hey, are you good?" She looked at him and nodded her head without saying anything.
"I thought I was your friend," Donna was visibly upset. As soon as they walked into the room, she couldn't contain her emotions. "What? What happ-" "Are you really dating Samuel? Of all people? You know he's friends with Jade, right?" The words hit Antonia, realizing that her friends was making conclusions about the situation. "Woah love," the girl leaned in closer, "Can we talk about this another time?" "No! Dude is it serious? You've been hanging out with him?" Her voice began to tremble. It was a big fear of hers to see her close friends turn their back on each other. Of course Antonia would never do such a thing, but she began to worry. The students in the class began to stare at the two girls and Antonia began to feel uncomfortable. "So, are you dating him yes, or no?" The goth's ears began to feel warm from embarrassment. She looked at their group who then began to move their eyes away from her and move to the other side of the classroom where Samuel was. Jiya looked at Donna upset when she walked in making way over to them. Donna began whispering to Antonia leading to bickering and Joseph stepped in between them. "Donna chill out. You can't fix everyone's problems. Just because you're not in a relationship doesn't mean you can dictate others." Wally looked over at his girlfriend then back at Donna. He knew she was ready to start a fight if she needed to. Antonia sat in shock and covered her face in embarrassment. Nicole also was confused on how the issue escalated quickly. "Oh my God Toni. They're all bad people! He's friends with Jade! Did you forget what happened? You don't know what he's capable of?" People in the classroom began to mumble and Samuel started chewing on the side of his cheek hoping no one would ask him anything. Jade whispered mocking the girl with their own drama, "What the fuck is her problem? Can't she leave Toni alone?" Samuel paid no attention to her as a few people in the class stared at him. His friends pretended not to know anything about what Antonia and made it seem like they were interested in class when the bell rang. Donna continued about how her main concern was Antonia eventually becoming friends with Jade until Joesph gently pushed her away and guided her back to her seat. During class, Antonia couldn't focus on what the lesson was about. She was fighting to hold in the tears that wanted to escape. Yet she had lost interest in learning when a tear rolled down her cheek.
Antonia sat in silence for her theater class. Her head was down on the table and said nothing when the video played in class. She finally was part of an extracurricular but was feeling really down. Her phone vibrated and she looked at the notification from Donna.
Donna: I'm sorry I blew up. I shouldn't have assumed that you would all of a sudden become friends with Jade. She's just not a good person so we just want you to be aware. She's not nice and neither is a lot of Samuel's friends. See we get you are able to get along with people like William and Seymour and that's cool. But like some of those other guys like Baran and Mikron, they're just bad news. And if you are out with them, even if you're just trying to be around Samuel, but they do something wrong, you're going to be dragged in it.
Donna: Antonia you're now one of my really close friends and I would hate for you to just start acting like them. I really appreciate how much we've supported each other and it would suck if you suddenly started being dragged away. You have real friends with us and you know we have your back in case anything happens. I didn't mean to cause a scene at lunch or class. I was just freaking out.
She looked at her phone in silence. Then composed a response…
Antonia: What do you mean you caused a scene at lunch? What happened?
Antonia: And I understand that you were upset. But I would never be friends with Jade. She's crazy and I still don't really trust some of the people Sam hangs out with.
She took a deep breath and pondered on the thought. "What happened at lunch?"
