Chapter 1 – The Blade Is Drawn
Quoted from Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix
Hermione, Parvati and Lavender all screamed. The figures around the cabin had shot no fewer than four Stunners at Professor McGonagall. Halfway between cabin and castle the red beams collided with her, for a moment she looked luminous and glowed an eerie red, then she lifted right off her feet, landed hard on her back, and moved no more. "Galloping gargoyles!" shouted Professor Tofty, who also seemed to have forgotten the exam completely. "Not so much as a warning! Outrageous behaviour!"
"COWARDS!" bellowed Hagrid, his voice carried clearly to the top of the tower, and several lights flickered back on inside the castle. "RUDDY COWARDS! HAVE SOME O' THAT – AND THAT –"
"Oh my-" gasped Hermione.
And then what Hagrid was doing didn't seem as important any more, as the still body of Professor McGonagall slowly shook itself and stretched, like loosening up the joints. And then she stood up. Harry could not believe what he was seeing, as from within her robes, Professor McGonagall withdrew a sword, and raised it in a manner that indicated she very well knew how to use it, then shouted almost as loud as Hagrid "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!"
It was clear from their reactions that Umbridge and her now sole remaining helper (Hagrid had knocked the others out, needing only a single punch for each) had not expected this. Deciding in the face of this sudden recovery that Professor McGonagall was some kind of Dark Lady, Umbridge and her helper turned and ran as fast as they could across the grounds, clearly aiming to get outside the gates so they could Apparate away to get help.
But Harry was sure that whoever Professor McGonagall really was, she wouldn't let them get away that so easily, and he was soon proved right. With two swift flicks of her wand, Professor McGonagall sent a Stunning Spell of her own at Umbridge's helper, hitting him square in the back of the head so that he fell flat on his face. Umbridge, however was not so lucky. Screaming at the top of her lungs, she was dragged back towards Professor McGonagall as though an invisible winch cable was tied around her waist and slowly reeling her in.
Umbridge continued to scream, kicking her legs, flailing her arms, trying to get free of Professor McGonagall's spell, but suddenly stopped, as the sword was now only a few inches away from her neck. Silence fell on the top of the Astronomy tower, and Harry wished he could be down there with his Head of House, so that he could see whatever was going to happen next close up. Then Professor McGonagall's voice shouted again. "SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS!" Then even Harry gasped, as Professor McGonagall swung the sword, and cut Umbridge's head off, as cleanly as a hot knife through butter, then flicked the sword round in an impressive figure-of-eight before returning it to wherever it had come from within her robes and walking over to Hagrid.
In the stunned silence of seeing Umbridge's – was it murder, or execution, Harry wondered – Professor Tofty coughed awkwardly. "Um… five minutes to go, everybody."
-Scene transition – 45 minutes later, Dumbledore's Office-
Albus Dumbledore was deeply worried. Following the silver tabby Patronus reaching him, it had taken him only a few minutes, thanks to Fawkes, to get back to where he was supposed to be. The additional time was used to prepare for the difficult conversation he was about to have with his deputy. He sighed deeply. "How did it come to this, Minerva, for you to murder Dolores?" "It was not murder, Albus." Professor McGonagall said pointedly. "You murder an innocent. You execute a criminal. You put down a rabid animal. And I can tell this conversation is going to be a long one, so I will get the biggest subject out of the way. Minerva McGonagall is not my real name, though it is the one I have been using for the last few decades. I was born in 1673 as Fiona MacLeod, of the clan MacLeod, in the village of Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel. And I am immortal."
