Chapter XIII: Rookies.

The Best Confidence Builder Is Experience.

Clone forces rally! As the war escalates in the Outer Rim, the Jedi Knights are spread thinly across the galaxy. Many new clones are rushed into service to support their Jedi generals. Unfortunately, because of the relentless demands of battle, many young clones must join the struggle before their intensive training has been completed. These clones, manning a vital network of tracking stations, are all that stand between the Republic and invasion…

Maelstrom.

"There you go BD, a better battery. Now you can overcharge stuff." Naruto said to BD putting a small torch away on the workbench as BD jumped up and down.

Naruto picked him up and placed him on his back. Going into the main room, he saw Thrawn at a console. "They ready?"

"Yes, sir," Thrawn said before hitting a button.

And had Rex come up. "Rex, are you on your way?"

"Yes, General Uzumaki. I'll be there in a few parsecs."

"OK, Alpha and I will be in the hanger waiting so we can check up on Domino Squad at their post."

Rishi Moon.

At night on a base in a meteor filled field, Domino Squad without their helmets are in an outpost with several other clones looking at console screens. Echo is reading a manual as Cutup was arm-wrestling Hevy as a female robot radio host via hologram gave the news before playing music.

Fives with '5' tattooed on his right temple looked back from his console as Hevy cheered. "Shouldn't you be watching your post Hevy?" Echo asked as Hevy sighed and hit a button at his console showing a feed of the meteor-stricken ground.

"Oh look, nothing. Just like the last time I looked. And the time before that."

"Personally, I like quiet. Gives me time to catch up on the Reg manuals."

"Echo, what's wrong with you? We should be on the front lines blasting droids!" Hevy asked as Cutup looked back at him.

"Give him a break, he was left in his growth pod too long."

"You may not know it yet boys, but you've just landed the most boring post in the Outer Rim," Hevy said as another clone walked inside.

"And one of the most important."

"Attention, Sargent on deck!"

"At ease." The clone said as the others stood at attention. "I shouldn't have to remind you this post is very important to the Outer Rim. Any droids that'll get past this station can do a sneak attack on the facilities where we were born on our homeworld of Kamino. We've got a General on his way for inspection and I want things squared away when he gets here, understand?"

"Sir, yes sir!"

A few minutes went by before an alarm went off. "Sir, incoming meteor shower."

"Raise the shields."

"You're about to get your excitement Hevy." Cutup said to the clone who sighed.

"Yeah, meteor shower."

Outside, another clone was looking around with night vision before seeing a droid ship with the meteors that landed before one jumped up in front of him.

It has a thin skeletal appearance along with muscle like pads on its limbs and waist, as well as black colored armor plating.

They then shock him and kill the clone before running to the base with a group of droids.

Inside, the clones lost contact with the clone outside. "CT-327 report in, Sentry, do you copy? You two go find him." The Sargent said to Droidbait and another clone who ran out.

"Droids!"

But the two clones were quickly killed by the attacking droids. The Sargent left the command center of the base to repel the invading droids, "Sound the alarm!" He ordered Hevy who hit a button.

"It's jammed!" Hevy yelled just as the Sergeant is killed by the battle droids who shot him several times in the chest.

After witnessing the Sargent's death, Hevy, Echo, Fives, and Cutup go to a ventilation shaft inside the command center to escape. "This way, hurry!"

"Four clones escaped Captain." One droid said to the leader who nodded.

"They don't matter. Hardwire the all-clear signal and contact General Grievous." The leader then contacted Grievous via hologram. "The outpost is ours, General. We shut down the alarm and turned on the all-clear signal."

The cyborg nodded at that. "Leave the station's all-clear signal on, I don't want to alert the nearby Republic fleet we're here."

A hologram of Ventress then came up. "All the preparation for your invasion is in order."

"Good our fleet is nearby the rendezvous point."

"Good, then I wait for your arrival."

Meanwhile, the rookie clone troopers emerged from the other side of the ventilation shaft and became situated underneath the listening post's landing pad.

Space, Above Rishi.

Naruto, Alpha, and Rex without their helmets are on a gunship with Alpha trying to reach the outpost and get a stilted response back.

"Sorry, Captain, we're… Experiencing… Technical difficulties."

"This is the inspection team," Alpha replied as a video of a clone helmet came up on a screen.

"Inspection? Uh, negative!"

"It's a mandatory inspection soldier," Naruto said looking at the video. "So we're landing." Naruto cut the feed before looking at the other two. "Keep your guard up, that was weird."

They then landed and walked outside, BD jumping on Naruto's back as they saw a clone walking to them slowly. "Howdy, as you can see, the base is fully operational."

"Yeah well, we still need to check out the base inside," Naruto said, grabbing his saber and shoto.

A flare went up behind them and as the others looked at it, Naruto sliced the helmet off of the clone with his shoto.

"Sir!"

"It's one of those new commando droids!" Naruto yelled seeing sparks from the neck as commando droids stationed behind the crates surrounding the Jedi and clone officers emerged from their hiding spots and began to shoot at them.

During the crossfire, the droids tossed thermal detonators at the clones' shuttle, destroying the craft.

BOOM!

However, the clones escaped the area by jumping off the landing pad. "Really?" Naruto asked deflecting blasts away before jumping down as well.

He used a grappling hook and landed by Alpha and Rex. He also saw the surviving rookie clone troopers Echo, Cutup, Fives, and Hevy. "Take off your helmets," Naruto ordered the rookies do as ordered.

Suddenly, a large eel burst out of the earth and lunged at Cutup who Naruto pushed out of the way and was eaten. The eel tried to go into another hole near them but stopped as Naruto's sabers spun around its neck and cut the head off. Naruto groaned as he stepped away. "No speaking of this to anyone."

"What the hell was that?"

"That's the reason you're not supposed to go past the shield," Naruto said, throwing some of the slime off of him.

"My name's Rex, but you'll call me 'Captain' or 'sir'." Rex introduced himself taking his helmet off as the rookies nodded.

"Sir, yes, sir!"

"I'm Captain Alpha. I'm your new boss."

Fives saluted at him. "My trooper designation is Clone Trooper 27-5555, sir."

Hevy looked over to the trio before speaking. "We call him Fives. I'm Hevy. This is Echo and Cutup."

"Droidbait?" Naruto asked as the clones shook their heads before seeing BD scanning the eel.

Alpha looked to the group before speaking. "Where's your sergeant-in-command?"

Echo took a step forward at the question. "Dead, sir. We're all that's left."

Rex, after looking at the eel body and having blood on his hands, looked back to them. "Looks like we got us a bunch of shinies, General."

"Yeah, I was at this squad's graduation," Naruto said as he got on one knee and moved his arm down for BD to run up it.

Echo raised an eyebrow at that. "Shinies, sir?"

Rex nodded and walked up to the rookies. "That's right. Your armor, it's shiny and new, just like you." He said putting the blood-covered hand on Echo's chest leaving a print.

Hevy then stood at attention. "Sir, my squad is ready to take back that station, shiny or not."

Rex looked back to Hevy and smirked. "There's hope for you yet, rookie."

All of them started to climb back up to the base before Naruto looked at them. "OK, we'll be taking this base back!"

"You got a plan?" Alpha asked as he and Rex gave Hevy and Cutup their rifles as they got their pistols.

"I got one," Rex said before they got up to the platform and ex walked to the door like a droid.

A camera that's shaped like an eye came out "Unit 26, that you?" A droid asked over the speakers as the others ran up to the door on either side.

"Roger, Roger."

"Take off your helmet."

"Roger, Roger," Rex said, leaning down and picked up the discarded droid's head before putting it to the camera.

The door opened and the group made quick work of the small group at the door. They then continued to ambush the other droids stationed inside the listening post's main control room. After retaking the listening post, the clones found that the commando droids had hardwired the station's all-clear signal. "Get ready for reinforcements if these droids were regularly updating their ships," Naruto said as BD scanned the droids. "That's gonna get you in trouble someday BD."

"(Beep!)"

They then saw reinforcements in the atmosphere in a C-9979 landing craft, Rex noticed that the new arrivals outnumbered the clone troopers and ordered the listening post to be destroyed, to get the Republic's attention. "There's highly explosive liquid Tibanna in storage to heat the base when it gets cold."

"That should work. All right, listen up. There's only one target of interest in this sector: Kamino. Today we fight for more than the Republic. Today we fight for all your brothers back home. Understood?" Naruto asked.

"Sir, yes sir!" The clones replied before Naruto had Rex and Echo retrieve the base's plunk droids that stored the liquid Tibanna, Cody, Hevy, Cutup, and Fives grabbed weaponry from the listening post's supply room.

Outside, the clones began to fire at the approaching droids. The clones tried to hold off the droids before they could enter the base, but the droids' fire overwhelmed the clones and forced them to retreat into the listening post. When the clones attempted to detonate the Tibanna inside the plunk droids, they found that the remote activator did not function properly.

"OK BD can fix that, go ahead and get outta here," Naruto said, having the Force hold his shoto up while he held his saber and pistol.

The clones fled the listening post through the nearby ventilation shaft. After hearing the invading droids, Naruto stood in front of the plunk droids as BD used his scomp link and started working on the detonator. B1 droids then walked in as Naruto spun his shoto in front of him and shot the droids as he deflected blasts with his saber.

Meanwhile, outside the base, the clones run to a safe distance and watch the base.

Inside, droids fell as Naruto threw his shoto in a circle around him before looking back and saw BD finished before pulling the droid to him. Naruto threw his sabers at the window, breaking it, and dived out just as the bombs exploded.

BOOM!

As the all-clear signal was cut off from the listening post, the nearby Republic fleet under the command of Admiral Wullf Yularen and Jedi Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker was alerted to the danger. The Republic armada cut off the incoming Confederate ships over the Rishi moon, and Grievous, realizing that his fleet was outgunned, ordered a full-scale retreat before the Republic could cause major damage to his ships.

A Week Later; Coruscant, Yoda's Quarters.

"A problem you have?" Yoda asked sitting in his chair in front of Naruto as BD was on a cushion between them.

"No, someone from my home was finally able to contact me."

"That's good is it not?" Yoda asked as Naruto nodded.

"Yeah, but it seems that only 3 years have gone by there instead of 6," Naruto said before bringing out and unrolling the scroll showing Jiraiya's seal.

"New to me, these seals are. Wonders, they can do."

"Yeah, I've been working on responding to them as well as explaining about this universe," Naruto said as Yoda nodded.

"Agree I do on you doing that."

"I would also like to keep this a secret from the Senate for now," Naruto said clasping his hands together.

"Oh?"

"Yeah, I would rather not pull my world into this war… We did just have one of our own wars a little before I was born."

"Yes, worlds sadly get pulled into this. Agree with that I do also."

Later, in his room, Naruto was sitting at a table overlooking Jiraiya's seal and trying to work on his own. "Didn't think this would be difficult." He said leaning his head on his hand.

"(Boop!)" BD beeped as he stood on the table looking at Naruto who patted his head.

"Yeah, buddy, I know."

Naruto then went back to working on his scroll for several hours before getting up and walking out. And saw Aayla walking in the hall talking to both Tiplee and Tiplar.

"Hey guys, how are you?"

"Good/Good/Good." The three replied walking up to him.

"I'm glad you're here Naruto," Aayla said, getting Naruto to raise an eyebrow.

"The bedroom is right there."

"Not that! I was just about to spar with Tiplee and Tiplar, would you join us?" She asked as Naruto shrugged just as BD jumped on his back.

"Sure."

Later, the four were fighting in the sparring chamber. Aayla rolled over Naruto's back to attack Tiplee as Naruto turned on his shoto to block Tiplar's saber before getting up and threw it at Aayla's back having her dodge, and Tiplee to parry the attack away before they stopped and bowed to each other.

"You two have gotten better," Tiplee said before Tiplar nodded with her sister.

"Yes, it's easy to see that spending time together has strengthened you two."

Naruto shrugged at that. "Well yeah of course… To be fair siblings who can fight with each other as you two can have the same results."

Oola's Bar.

Naruto sat at the bar having BD jump on the counter as Oola walked to them. "Juno just dropped off more supplies to Cham and his people, outside of that, there's nothing else to report today Naruto."

"That's fine, I just came in for a drink," Naruto replied leaning on the bar as BD beeped. "But hey, I can take you out for a night on the town next time."

"Why?"

"As a thank you for what you've been doing," Naruto replied as Oola dropped a glass down on the bar.
