Faint Heart Never Won Fair Lady!

Kim returned to Middleton for Thanksgiving. Almost all her friends – and even people who weren't friends – made it home for the holiday. There wasn't enough time to see all the people she wanted to. Which meant she was under no obligation whatsoever to see Bonnie.

Ron wanted details on her luck with the dating app.

"I, uh, haven't made it a priority – but I'll work on it next semester."

"You're over-scheduled, right?" observed Ron.

"No way! How can you say that! I... I... How did you know?"

"'Cause you always over-scheduled in high school. Hey – at least you aren't saving the world every week anymore."

"Yeah, but classes are way harder." Kim giggled slightly. "Shego agreed with you."

Ron looked puzzled, "Huh?"

"I went out for coffee with her when you said I needed to be more proactive... She didn't believe you really used the word. Anyway, she said you're right and I'll have more luck if I use it to try and meet women and not just wait for women to contact me."

"You went out with Shego?"

"No, I figured since she'd used it to contact me she knew the app better. So I twisted her arm to get her to the coffee shop and she said you were right."

"Shego and I agreed... One of us has to be wrong."

The bad news, at Middleton, was her mom and dad saying they would be in Paris at Christmas to celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. The tweebs were being farmed out with a neighbor – although the Doctors Possible assured Kim she was welcome to come home for Christmas. She could stay in the house and visit her friends who were home for the holiday... And watch her younger brothers.

After hesitating slightly Kim said she'd stay in California.

Shortly after her return to the West Coast Kim, or rather Ann P, had a personal message.

Xandy: Princes, I need a favor.

Ann P: Want me to quote your
response when I asked for a
favor?

Xandy: Hey, you're a do-gooder.
You have to help.

Ann P: You were a do-gooder
with Team Go.

Xandy: I retired from doing
good.

Ann P: So did I, when I started
college.

Xandy: Hey, I still came to the
coffee shop and answered your
questions when you called.

Ann P: And charged me. Is that
all you want, to ask me some
questions?

Xandy: Well... No. How
'bout we meet at the coffee
shop and I spell out what I
want?

Ann P: And you'll pay for
the coffee.

Shego brought Kim's order over to her at the coffee shop.

"Okay, what's the favor you need. And I'm not saying I'll do it."

"Nothing hard. I want you to go to a holiday party with me."

"What?"

"See, we can't call it a Christmas party, 'cause it might offend the Jews, or Buddhists, or Hindus, or Satanists. So we gotta call it a holiday party."

"No, I mean you want me to attend a party with you? Seriously?"

"What's so hard to understand. Holiday party. Piece of cake. Oh, and you call yourself Megan."

"I call myself Megan?"

"Yeah... Maybe you don't need to call yourself Megan. I mean, I introduce you as Megan. People call you Megan. You answer. Yeah, you can stay entirely honest. You don't need to call yourself Megan. You just answer when anyone else calls you Megan. Even easier."

Kim closed her eyes and gently massaged her temples. "I am going to assume there is a reason for this. Was Megan the woman you were going out on dates with?"

"Yes."

"And for some reason she can't make it to the party?"

"Right."

"Why don't you just tell your co-workers that Megan can't make it? There'll be other parties."

"Uh, I sorta have the feeling from my last conversation with Megan that she won't be going to any parties with me in the near future, or any other future the two of us share."

"What happened? You were sounding optimistic the last time we talked."

"I was optimistic the last time we talked. I mean there were some rough points... Megan isn't exactly the easiest person in the world to get along with and–"

"You are?"

"Watch the mouth, Princess. This last fight seemed pretty much the end."

"Did you have to bury her body?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Hey, if she's still alive there's hope. The two of you could get back together before your party."

"Without going into all the sordid and nasty little details, Pumpkin, I'm asking you to trust me. No way in hell."

Tell your co-workers the two of you broke up."

"It's not that easy."

"It's the truth."

"It's the truth, but for the last couple weeks I've been talking about how great Megan was – how I was seeing her and stuff. Now, my reputation for honesty is not very high. There were guys swearing I'm full of shit and Megan is imaginary. This party was going to be my chance to rub their noses in it."

"You could call Megan and apologize. Even if you were right you could apologize."

"Cupcake? The last time I saw Megan I pushed her out of my car and drove off. We were ten miles out in the country."

"That does sound kind of final."

"Hey, at least when I saw her purse was still in the car I drove back, rolled down my window, and threw it at her."
