Chapter 26: Warning Signs and an Ungolden Feather Part III

(DAY 4) 7 pm

Kurama's POV:

[Phone Call with Aisha]

"That won't work! My dad comes home at that time from work and they don't go to sleep until two or three am…There's no point in you coming, j-just telling you- I'm fine!" The nervousness in her voice is simple to detect, more of her emotions are spilling out.

*Now is not the time to be putting up a brave front. *

"That's not important in the slightest. Your health and safety are a part of my concern. Have you forgotten I was once a thief? I can sneak in quite well."

"I know jerk face! Just… don't bother…" She whispers and soon falls silent.

"I suppose you're furious with me about what had occurred with your mother, but I can assure you that won't happen again, I truly am sorry for the inconvenience I've caused you, but you must work with me. I would appreciate your cooperation. Now, I only was able to defeat one minor enemy-"

"Minor?" Her tone is sharp with indignation. "What happened to me was not some minor shit Kurama; I can't just magically get over being nearly-killed! I was fucking tortured! -Tortured!"

"I do not mean to belittle what horrors you've experienced; you have my deepest condolences Aisha. I also understand that this isn't simple to process but compared to who we are possibly up against they will only grow in strength and decimate all in their wake. We have yet to learn who we're up against and just how many there are. Aisha, like it or not you are involved, and I will do my best to protect you." I explain honestly.

"Yeah, right. You stupid ass ghost." She grumbles under her breath with a sigh.

"There's no need to insult me constantly, it's not like I particularly enjoy doing this. I don't wish to be held accountable nor feel guilty if you become seriously injured again."

"No one's paying you to babysit! I-I can take care of myself…" Her sharp tone quiets to a sad mutter.

"I only mean to keep you safe, not to act as a guardian of any sort. You may be able to take care of yourself, but as of right now, you aren't strong enough to fight demons. Now, is there something else you wish to tell me?" I state, trying not to sound annoyed.

"I-I-" She takes in a deep breath and releases it. "Weird things have been happening, and I have n-no explanation for it. I don't want to get into details over the phone, but I just have been seeing things, and getting creepy messages. I-I think they're warning signs or something."

"I see, we should discuss the details in person then." I press.

*This may explain the strange fluctuations of demonic energy my plant has been detecting Though every time I have checked the area, it completely vanishes. *

"Y-yeah." She gives as a soft response. "It's not like I h-have a choice."

"You do have choices, everyone does, but it would be of your best interest if you do let me know. Aisha there are other matters I must explain to you-" Before I can finish my statement, Aisha mutters quickly; "My mom's calling me, I can't talk anymore, bye." And she hangs up abruptly a second later.

^What happened to sugar-coating your statements? How strange of you, have you already used up your reservoir of patience? ^ Youko chooses to "gracefully" comment.

*I'm not sure what came over me, I just may have only added more pressure to a fragmented mind. *

^Who would have known you'd allow your anger to even surface a bit? ^

*And who's fault do you suppose it is? Your bothersome commentary adds fuel to the fire. *

^Perhaps you're losing it? Little Shuichi, I believe you are only incorrectly directing your anger at me, for I remained silent. Has her hostile tone gotten to you? Or are you just more worried than you originally thought you'd be? ^

*As I stated to her, I don't wish to burden myself with guilt if she's murdered, don't read into things that aren't there, fox. *

^Tsk, foolish Shuichi. You honestly should learn to be more honest with yourself. You simply do not want to repeat mistakes from the past. ^

I change the topic, not wanting to gain more of a headache arguing with my former self.

*Warning signs, and disturbing messages she stated …It's vague but perhaps the enemy is trying to contact her? *

^A possibility, or to simply frighten the girl. However, you do not have any proof if it is the enemy's doing. Seems strange to not outright attack; more information would be useful now. ^

*I agree, I should attempt to contact Koenma again. *

^You also should get in touch with your own emotions, Shuichi. ^

*Silence fox, that is not of importance-*

Before I can properly disagree with my former self, my tracking plant alerts me of a demonic aura that I now sense; and it is pending from Aisha's location.

*Hopefully, I can catch whatever is causing this cumbersome presence. *

Aisha's POV:

Rudely I hang up on the redhead for two reasons. One, I have some chores to do, and two the email Ran had sent opened in front of me. Its freakiness' is starting to sink in.

Fragments of the past continually glue back together again

Existence will be disregarded

The message isn't what gets to me; it's the picture files that are attached. My breathing becomes so out of whack that I take a puff of my asthma inhaler like a stereotyped nerd. Even as my eyes take numerous double takes, I can't believe what I'm staring at. Quickly it takes me back to the bathroom of that sick fuck of a demon, Aiden.

Bodies of people, seemingly out of random, are tormented in different ways. From pulled guts, ripped limbs, and being burnt beyond recognition, all of the bodies look kind of flat as if all the liquids have been drained.

The one decomposing corpse that truly brings out my barely suppressed fear is this one girl's face and torn North High PE uniform. She was a former classmate from my JROTC class that everyone thought transferred out of school a month ago…

My body trembles all over again in a turmoil of emotions, tied between terror and anger. Who's the freaking monster this time slaughtering these innocent people, and why the hell are they sending this to me?!

Fearing the worst, I call and text my Vegas friend Ran, and gain no further reply. I leave a few voicemails, telling her to call me back as soon as she can. Tears want to collect in my eyes, but I'm too stunned to even allow such a simple bodily function to work.

Instead, I start on my chores, soon after I prepare myself to head downstairs with Shuichi (Boyya) to take the trash out, water the garden, bring vegetables upstairs, and feed Butterscotch. Mother found out that Butterscotch was in the house, so I had to bring her back to the downstairs cages.

Secretly I also stashed away in my gray, black, and yellow Batman hoodie my cell phone and a cheap pocketknife that I randomly found in the house. I'm even tempted to bring along the broken metal broomstick I found lying by the sink in the apartment, but I would look retarded and crazy carrying that around.

The putrid stench of rotting leftovers, dirty diapers and other crap in the leaky flimsy white trash bag I'm dragging just might be good enough to terrify anything!

"Euh, so freaking nasty!"

I state to myself and keep my body turned away from the trash. Though, the stink can't compare to when I was in that nightmare bathroom… As I slowly pass the parking lot and head straight towards the huge trash container, I lift the bag of 'horror'. I struggle to toss the revolting garbage in.

After letting the bunny run around for 10 minutes, I grabbed Butterscotch and place her back into the outside cage. Making sure to leave her food and refill her water. I begin to water the garden and once again-feel something staring holes into me.

Try as I might paranoia and fear trickles through my entire being. As I gather the last of the veggies to bring back home, movement in the shrubbery grabs my attention. Telling myself it might be a possum, stray cat, or raccoon I pick up a small dirt rock and toss it in that general direction.

Dark green vines begin to stir more with life, like worms. I rush towards the ancient rabbit cage; practically ripping the door off and I frantically snatch Butterscotch, shove Boyya deeper into my jacket and take off, my shoulder pain goes numb as fright eats at my mind.

'What the fuck was that!?' I scream in my head and don't dare to look back. I sprint through the parking lot and up the uneven stairs, tripping a few times out of panic. At this very second, all that matters is getting my pets to safety.

My shaky hands struggle to find the right bronze-colored key to shove into the dull silver doorknob. Just as I manage to open the brown chipping door my bunny screams in fright and my bird cries out in terror. Both of which rush past me flying and running inside.

Their voices echo down the hall, but behind me, I hear the flapping of enormous wings. A gust of air blows my curly hair forward, revealing my bare neck. Someone is standing behind me because I can hear a few light footsteps and a dark chuckle.

'SHIT.'

My left-hand releases the doorknob and my sweaty right hand immediately goes for the cheap pocketknife. My back is still turned, terror has me frozen in place.

"Who are you?" I question, surprised my voice sounds so strong, but my entire body says otherwise; my knees are trembling like jello. As if to hide themselves, the outdoor stair lights shatter. Before I can scream, the person grips my good shoulder. Their sharp nails start to dig into my flesh.

A bit of courage rises in me and I quickly turn to attack. My right-hand clutches the tiny pocketknife and actually slashes them. Though I don't know where exactly.

I try to run past the cracked brown door and towards another fragile exit gate, but the person grabs me by the hood of my Batman jacket and flings me down the stairs with inhuman strength.

I let out a shriek and shield my head on impact; glass pieces from the lights imbed into my purple leggings and cut through the sleeves of my hoodie. Bashing against the cement steps knocks the breath out of my lungs.

"What the fuck are you!? Why are you doing this to me?!" I scream forcing myself up to a sitting position.

I get no answer but the tall person (who I assume is a guy) states in a deep husky voice; "I have no use for such a feeble wench. Consume her."

"What…" I state, speechless. Before I can stand up, something wraps itself around my bleeding legs, vines.

I cry out as its grip become tougher. "Get off me!"

The guy chuckles darkly again, and I glance up. This time I see his face. His beauty has me awestruck for a second. He has a fair complexion, menacing silver eyes, long blue hair that goes past his back, and a handsome mug.

He stares, grinning slightly. He turns his back and bright wings are spread apart like a bird. As he takes off, I only stare dumbfounded and a couple of feathers land near me. A golden gleam dully reflects off them from the moonlight.

Even as I struggle against the tight green vines (which are now constricting around my neck), I'm unable to scream for the help I need…

To be continued…

My notes:

This chapter was a pretty long one, but I decided to break it into pieces. This chapter is 7 pages long on 12-inch font. Also, regarding the character bashing those usernames I randomly made up, but I have seen people make stupid comments like that on a fan site a long time ago. 0-o Please review my readers, it really helps motive me!

Peace On & Rock Out!
