Youko's Thoughts: ^ You're asking if I've known of the embrace of loving another beforehand? ^
Kurama speaking to Youko in his head/his own thoughts: *Yes, I mean I have had a crush before so… *
Inner thoughts of other characters: 'Did Youko Kurama have a lover when he was in demon world?'
Hiei's Inner thoughts/speech when he is talking to someone in their head: ~I wouldn't know, nor do I really care. It's not something of my concern. ~
Sinhalese is a REAL language and comes from Sri Lanka!
Anything said in Sinhalese: "Is now really the time for singing songs?"
A Few Inventions from the Spirit Lab! (Really my creations…-cue evil laugh-)
Spirit Bands: Comes in various colors, it appears as a typical rubber/silicon wrist band, however, it contains excess spirit energy in case of emergencies. The phrase 'Spirited' is on all bands. The only side effect is the material may be a possible minor skin irritant.
Portal Sealing Solution: A sticky purple substance that is used to close portals to different locations. Requires spirit energy and can only be applied by 'grim reapers' because of their distinct auras.
Detection Plant: Yet another device that Kurama has created, basically a hybrid of your typical human Ficus and demon plant. This plant upholds the ability to detect negative demon or spirit energy. Is also useful as a pet or guard "dog" and can communicate with whom it chooses.
To keep in mind (Non-spirit lab-related):
The Anrokku-Isei of pain [ An-roku-Is-hi] (Unlock the power of pain): An evil, rare, powerful, tiny red seed. Used by the demon enemy Aiden against Aisha. The seed forces any dormant abilities to awaken but also awakens the ugliest of irrational emotions. Pain, fear, hate, and anger only allow its host's mental destruction to grow at a faster rate. Side effects vary species to species however include weakness, dizziness, headaches, confusion, vomiting, internal bleeding, burns, consistent bleeding, permanent psychological damage, and death.
Chapter 34: Salteñas and Binding Scares

(DAY 5) 2 am
Aisha's POV:
The tall vintage skyscrapers of New Lork City take me by surprise. This world is foggy, and nothing is concrete. It's like walking around with a thin plastic bag over your eyes and vertigo is pelting your entire body. Even so, the sky is dark with pollution and the sensation of hot air escapes the vents and warms my legs.
I've never been here a day in my life, so this…is probably a lucid dream. I take a few steps gingerly and glance into a trash cluttered alleyway. It reminds me of the ghetto places I've seen as a kid whenever I visited downtown Los Bngeles. Thank god I can't smell its typical stench.
I move a little further, my world shifting in jagged motions. A man in a black suit with dark green shoulder-length hair is manning a hot dog cart, when I pass by him, he smiles politely. I nod back and can't help but think he looks just like that handsome villain, Itsuki who was Sensui's lover.
Someone shouts and points towards the sky, "Look! It's Spiderman!"
I happily glance up, and oddly this Spiderman isn't wearing his mask…it's redhead Kurama!
Spiderman Kurama waves at the crowd below him, and I can't help but wonder what the hell is going on. Out of nowhere, Spiderman's arch-nemesis the Green Goblin circles around Spiderman Kurama…
'Uh oh. Are they going to fight?'
"Oh! It's the Green Goblin!" Another person shouts. The Green Goblin removes his mask, and it's Yusuke?
'This is only getting stranger and stranger…'
The two men in the sky chat cheerfully, and they begin to make their way down to the street.
'Oh good, they aren't going to kill each other. I should go say hi.'
I pass another dirty alleyway, attempting to get closer to Spider-Kurama and Goblin-Yusuke but something yanks my legs into the darkness of the weird alleyway.
.·͙*̩̩͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩̥͙*̩̩̥͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩͙‧͙ .
I open my eyes, telling myself it was just a silly dream. Heh. Spiderman-Kurama and a Friendly Green Goblin Yusuke? I can't help but chuckle. It sounds like something that should be an oddball fan-fiction story.
A quiet finally forms in my mind but does not heed against danger as a grip on my ankles harshly yanks my legs off the cyan blue fluffy bed. I can't help but to yelp, and I land on the wooden floor.
Do I ever get a break from all this stupid chaos?!
Cold. The room is at an icy freezer like temperature, my breath is visible. Goosebumps crawl up my body and shivers tingle down my spine. Uh oh.
There, at the foot of my bed is a wispy gray skeleton ghost, glaring at me with empty eye sockets.
Three choices form in my head. A) scream like a crazy person, B) run like my ass' is on fire or C) remain calm and stare back, it will go away.
Magically, against all instinct, I pick C), don't ask me how; I just do it. Though, mentally I'm doing A) as well.
Its bony hand reaches out to me and I frantically scoot back, unsure what to do. Fear is gripping at my heart, but strangely my mind is semi-calm.
Nothing dares to come out of my mouth; my lips are frozen in a mental scream of silence. Should have ran and shrieked for the whole world to hear, 'cause soon enough I feel my wrists and ankles pin into the side of the bed with harsh pressure.
I open my mouth but cannot utter a squeak. My throat begins to tighten like a vice has surrounded it. I can't breathe, and strange gurgling noises escape me, once again tears begin to stream down into my ears.
'Someone…help me!'
'Please…! No, I shouldn't bother…this is what I wanted...'
'I'm gonna die, with Kurama just in the next room…lovely.'
If I wasn't too busy choking, I would laugh bitterly to myself.
I glance around the room and spot the wispy ghost still hovering over the end of the bed as if it is thinking about something.
Tiny fuzzy black spots begin to fill up in my vision and my head starts panging in pain.
Just as I gaze at the door, it swings open violently, and Kurama barges in.

Kurama's POV:
A strange nagging awoken me from a deep sleep, something isn't right. My Detection Plant is sounding itself through a tiny leaf on my nightstand.
Bolting out of bed, I debate for a second to enter the guest bedroom, until I hear noisy gurgling sounds.
^Hurry, she must be suffocating! ^
The first thing that catches my eyes is a foggy, grim apparition. The creature turns its skeleton head and dissipates before I get the opportunity to step forward. Aisha is still gasping for air, and I spot transparent bottle green vines binding her body and throat.
Adjoining my fingers with spirit energy and growing a razor-sharp leaf, I slash at the wicked appendages and they soon vanish as well.
"Aisha! Are you alright?" I question her, and she coughs greatly. A few minutes pass, and she hugs me tightly, her body shaking considerably.
She doesn't utter a word nor sobs vocally, but tears stream down her face, dampening my shirt. A few moments pass and she finally pulls away slightly, but her hand is still gripping the front of my blue t-shirt. She then lifts her head up to glance at me.
"Why does this keep happening to me, Kurama?" She inquires me, her reddened puffy eyes reflecting terror.
"I believe you already know the answer to that. You're a target that they desire, and they will not cease until they acquire you. I will have to contact Koenma again. Perhaps he will know a way to better shroud your presence." I respond, unsure how to put her fright to rest. "You're safe now, Aisha."
*Though, it is only a temporary solution at that…*
^Don't you dare leave her in this room without protection, Shuichi. ^
*I wouldn't dream of it, fox. If she can be attacked right next door to me, she's not departing from my sight. *
"I may be safe now, but how long are you supposed to babysit my weak ass? Also, I thought you couldn't contact Koenma or Botan before?"
"Do you doubt my capabilities Aisha?"
"No, but-"
"In due time, we will find a way to awaken your abilities safely and remove that seed but for now you will need to stick to my side. And, to answer your question, I was able to speak to both Koenma and Botan, but only for a few moments before the signal was lost again."
I lift her off the floor and carry her bridal style.
"W-w-wha-t are you doing?!" She squeaks, embarrassed; her apprehension momentarily forgotten.
"You're not staying in this room by yourself." I state, already in the narrow hallway.
"W-wait, n-no way!" She stammers. "P-ut me down Kurama!
I ignore her protests, even as she starts to swing at me.
A bit of anger begins to surface within me, and as I set her down, I grab her wild arms.
"If I hadn't opened that door, you wouldn't be breathing now, Aisha. Do you not realize how close you were to dying?" I question her somewhat sternly.
"I could have died multiple times today alone Kurama, I think I should start getting used to it."
"No, you shouldn't, and don't you dare leave my sight, I cannot believe they would have the gull to assault you in such close proximities to me…"
^I cannot fathom it either, how did you not sense anything? ^
*My senses are usually precise…Perhaps there was a barrier in place. *
"How can I stay in your sight at all times? What about the restroom? Or when I go home? Even if I wanted to, I can't stay here."
"Your life is not only an important power source but if you go without any sort of protection, you'll only endanger anyone close to you. I've already stated this to you, Aisha."
She grumbles under her breath, "You only give a shit 'cause you think I have some bs power."
"I've said it again and again if you didn't have an ability you wouldn't have survived any of those attacks, nor would you have been nearly slain. Are you so thick-headed that you cannot fathom your life means so much more? Not only to my cause but to also those who love you? What about your friends? Your beloved animals? Your little siblings?"
A stupefied gaze is her only reaction.
"Yes, it is my mission to keep you safe, but you continue to test my patience, infuriate me with your stubbornness and insults-however don't mistake my shortness with you as a sign of wanting ill things to occur. I do care for your wellbeing and I'm glad you're alright." I state and pull her into a hug.
She stiffens greatly but relaxes a bit when I say, "I'm not a man without faults, and I apologize once more for my own hurtful actions towards you. My intent and promise to you is to provide protection, Aisha."
When I release her, she appears stunned and flushed but doesn't utter a word.
^Your charming façade has rendered her speechless. ^ Youko chuckles. ^You should do this more often. ^
*You may joke that my words are lies, but you know as well as I do that, I stand by what I say. *
Shaking the shock off, Aisha finally gains her composure.
"You shouldn't make promises so easily, Kurama…" She states with an intense gaze.
"I can assure you I always keep my word."
"Tck, that's what everyone says at first, this doesn't make you any different from the rest of the planet." She grumbles, appearing irritated.
"This is coming from a former King of Thieves, I'm sure you can make an exception, Aisha."
"Just keep in mind; I want nothing to do with you." She states in an icy tone. She turns away quickly and covers herself (her face included) with her cobalt fleece blanket. "You can keep your stupid promise to yourself."
The scent of tears gives me an inkling she is putting up a false front, I'm starting to take note that her first reaction to a variety of uncertain events is to be angry, even if she isn't feeling that way.
"Oh? Even if you want nothing to do with me, you, regrettably, are stuck with my presence. We can't have you in harm's way again, now can we?"
(DAY 5) 2:20 pm
South America, Bolivia, Cochabamba
Botan's POV:
"Ooh! This gunk is so difficult to wash off!" I declare unhappily to myself, some of the Portal Sealing Solution snagged itself on to my clothing.
'At least the last of these portals are sealed off, and the people in this region don't have to worry about being sucked into any dangerous gateways.'
I think I'm just going to have to buy new clothes, and perhaps a hazmat suit? I dry my hands, staining the beige towel purple, and gaze at the somewhat cloudy sky and chilling mountains.
"What a gorgeous view! If only I had my camera on me!" I can't help but shout.
A slightly cool wind drifts past my dainty pink kimono, and the sound of cheerful chatter fills my ears.
Nearby, a local farmer's market is taking place and the scent of sweet bread and fruit lingers briefly as if to tempt my hunger.
"I don't think a quick peek is going to do any harm…"
᠃ ᠂ ᠂ ᠃
Numerous pounds of colorful strange fruit grab my attention. Stunning bright pie-shaped tissue paper decorations display shades of black, yellow, red, and green, but the people and their clothing open my eyes up to a new culture. My change of clothes into a simple teal V-neck and cobalt skinny jeans make me feel rather drab compared to the locals' clothing choices.
Remembering the region's language, I decide to carve the word Spanish into the Articulation gum in Japanese. After chewing and swallowing the horribly bitter gum, I test out my new Spanish!
"Hola, Niño (boy), sorry to bother you, but what is that you're eating?" I ask a lime-green eyed boy wearing a carrot-colored poncho.
"Ah, this is a specialty only found here in Cochabamba, it's called a Salteña. They are mucho bueno!(very good)."
'It looks a lot like an oversized pot sticker, except more pastry-like.'
The boy points to a food stall across the way with a small grin.
"You should also try the Pampaku, I think they will be serving it in 15 minutes!"
I smile back and with a goodbye, sample upon a number of strange new yummy foods.

After walking through the majority of the colorful scene, I begin to trek off course, into an open forest, discovering a tiny stream of aquamarine water. The misty mountains look slightly bigger now and remind me a bit of a place in Spirit World where I would gaze about when I wasn't in the highest of spirits.
In the back of my mind, I know I shouldn't exactly be relaxing, but I can't help but fear what may lie ahead, and how this might only be the beginning of trouble.
'Thank goodness I managed to seal up those lousy portals.'
My eyes wander to the small sliver of water and I spot little ginger-colored fishes.
"I only briefly spoke to Kurama. Blasted signal for being so unreliable! I really should check up on him…Come to think of it I was so busy I still haven't even spoken to Aisha yet!
Quickly dusting myself off, I pull out my oar and begin to make my way upwards into the clear blue sky.
"Goodbye city of Cochabamba, it was lovely visiting-"
Something in the clouds grasps my attention, and I stop my little speech. An orange ball of light randomly pops out of a low raincloud, and suddenly a blur of beige is shoved out.
"What in the world-" I question, and the object falls close enough for me to grasp it.
"A basket?"
Before I get the chance to gaze into the wooden thing, white and red specks fall, and I catch them instinctively.
"Strawberries?" I stare at the plump fruit in complete shock and amazement. "Some of them are white too!"
'Is that even possible? Or did I eat too much at that farmer's market...? This isn't making any sort of sense.'
I examine one of the white berries and stare at its strange ruby red seeds.
'Maybe aliens made this weird thing, after all, it came from the sky!' I joke to myself.
"AHHH!"
A high-pitched bawl nearly causes me to drop the basket of berries, and at the last moment, I realize it's coming from above me.
A figure wearing something the color of light azure, and mint green hair rapidly free-falls out of a fluffy cotton-like cloud.
"Botan!?" She cries out as she notices my presence, her red eyes reflect panic.
"Oh, my goodness, Yukina?!" Speedily as I can, I zoom down and grab ahold of her hand, stopping her from falling any further.
It takes a moment for my shock to shake away, and I hoist her up onto my oarstick and hug the girl tightly.
"Oh, dear! However, did you get here?" I ask with great concern.
"I-I'm not sure, one moment I was picking strawberries and the next this strange orange light swallowed me…" The red-eyed chick is a bit shaken up, and I hold her hand to reassure her.
"You must have been sucked into a portal…Well; the good news is that you're safe now. Though, I have a lot to fill you in on…" I say as I head North, handing back her basket of strawberries and offering her a Salteña."
"These remind me of a potsticker…" I smile brightly as she stares at the snack with a keen look in her eyes. "They are quite tasty!"
Crunch! Yukina takes a fulfilling bite, and I can see her face light up right away.
"Now, we should go locate Kurama, I hope he's doing alright." I state and then go on to explain in detail the situation we have at hand.
"I know this might be a bit much, but this world around us is actually another one. As odd as that sounds, they are connected, and both are in great danger…"
To be continued…
