Chapter 36: Enter YYH Crew, Come Prepared Part II
*Flashback* (DAY 5)
YYH World; Spirit World, Lord Koenma's Office:
Third Person POV:
"Remember how I told you about those portals and holes?"
"Yeah...what about them?" Kazuma questioned.
"Don't tell me..." Hiei started and only glared at Koenma.
"It's not as bad as you think..." The young king muttered but he didn't sound all that convincing.
"I can read minds, remember?" Hiei added, still glaring at him.
"Judging from his reaction, this is gonna make me want to punch you, isn't it?" Yusuke probed, irritation ringing in his voice.
"Oh man, I don't think I want to know…" Kuwabara muttered.
"Sayaka, can you help me out here?" Koenma croaked nervously.
"Sorry sir, I don't really know how I can," Sayaka replied, shrugging. In all honestly, she didn't really know what exactly the situation was because she barely returned from a mission herself. It seemed that the young king had forgotten he didn't tell her squat. Stress had caused him to become a bit scatterbrained.
"Tell them Koenma," Hiei growled through clenched teeth.
"A-alright, but you do realize this isn't my fault?" The young ruler stammered in a somewhat weak tone of voice. Guilt was raging in his gut and he didn't really want to tell them.
Hiei demanded, giving the brown-haired male the 'evil eye' glare.
"Damn it Koenma, quit stalling!" Yusuke roared, slamming his hand on his desk again.
"Seriously, what about those portals?" Kazuma asked.
"Okay, the portal I have been able to open has been blocked by a demonic aura…"
"Then why the hell haven't you been able to stop it?" Hiei interrogated in an angry tone.
"We've been trying, but it seems we can't gain full control…"
"Sir, how long has this been an issue?" Sayaka asked.
"For about 3 days."
"So, what will happen if we use the portal?" Kuwabara questioned.
"You might end up going to another dimension." He paused and said, "But that's only our worst-case scenario. If everything goes smoothly, then that won't happen- our chances are looking better."
"How the hell did this happen?" Yusuke grilled the young king.
"You remember those gadgets Botan would bring you when you first became a Spirit Detective right?"
"Yeah…? And?"
"Long story short, essential blueprints were stolen. I had reestablished the science/research department and their two years of research on perfecting stable enough portals to different locations and dimensions are gone now. The original power came from me and the enemy has somehow created an alternative power source."
"Of course, they would be stolen, Koenma ya really need to get ADT or something," Yusuke responded.
"You've seen those specific blueprints before, why do you need to rely on them anyway?" Hiei questioned, not quite understanding.
"The process itself is extensive and very meticulous, and as I just stated demonic energy is tampering with said process. Even a small misstep has dire consequences." The brown-haired male replied.
The child-like king went on to state that using a vast amount of his spiritual energy and his Spirit Shield, they can create a portal to any location, but it requires some time to become fully stable.
"Since the original blueprints are gone, and our enemy has been tampering with our portals…It might…" He trailed off, his eyes reflecting concern.
"It might what Koenma-sir?" Sayaka asked.
He paused, and then replied; "You might not be able to return for a while."
"So, you're basically saying that if we all go there, we might be trapped there?" Yusuke interrogated.
"No, not completely, I will be able to reopen the portal for a short amount of time …though…It may take some time, maybe even several months..."
"Months?!" Kazuma shouted, shock clearly on his face.
"Also, the fact that you all are at risk of being separated…and possibly ambushed." He finished.
"That's some major shit you're pulling' on us Koenma..." Yusuke stated.
"I'm sorry Yusuke, but I have no one else to turn to," Koenma says honestly.
"Besides, I have my Spirit sword!" Kuwabara chuckled. "You scared Urameshi?"
"Hell no! Let's get going then!" Yusuke shouted, a grin on his handsome face, however, the swaying in his steps isn't convincing (still being drunk and all).
"Hn, cocky as ever Yusuke." Hiei stated. "But it appears I have no choice but to go with you."
"Yeah, All right Hiei!" Yusuke yelled, optimistic.
"Sir, I'm sure they can all handle it!" Sayaka smiled.
"I know we can do it!" Kazuma added.
"I'm not the only one counting on you guys." Koenma informed them.
"So, the gist of this stupid mission is that if we don't stop 'em and protect this chick, we're all screwed?" Yusuke questioned bluntly.
"Yes." Koenma answered; "This is why you all must hurry and fix this…"
"Huh, alright, just making sure," Yusuke replied.
"How come it's only just one person?" Kazuma queried. "Still doesn't really make sense to me…"
"I don't really know or understand why, myself to be honest; I'm sure my father knows more about this matter.…" Koenma clarified. "I will contact you as soon as more information is gathered. Dad has been somewhat reluctant to help ever since I dethroned him. I think he's just being a bitter old man. I highly suggest you leave nothing unsaid to your loved ones, since it may be a while before you return. Rest up well gentlemen."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever Mom," Yusuke answered grinning and Koenma rolled his eyes in annoyance.
After the three left, Koenma informed Sayaka to also rest up but arrive three hours before them.
"If you don't mind me asking sir, for what reason do you need me? Wouldn't it be better if I aided in slowing down those undead demons?"
"No, I will need your assistance to make the portal as safe as possible before we send them through." He told her.
(DAY 6)
-The Following Day-
The boys were told to meet Koenma in his office at four o'clock in the afternoon, and shocking as it was everyone was on time!
They had plenty of rest and some time to speak to whoever they needed to. Before Yukina and Keiko were sucked into random portals they were able to spend some quality time with their loved ones the day before.
Yusuke somewhat lied to Keiko(again) and didn't want her to worry about him. The two even went on a date and had a great day together, he thought it would make her happy, and it did.
After Hiei visited Mukuro, he stopped by Genkai's where his sister was staying, but he didn't really say much to her, just kept her company and had snacks and tea. Yukina enjoyed baking/cooking and it made her so happy to share her treats. Deep in his heart, he did ache to tell her the truth, but he only kept his mouth closed. The girl did seem to enjoy his presence though.
Kazuma told his sister the truth, but she forced him to promise her that he would come back in one piece. Shizuru was on her way to visit their parents overseas with him, but since he had his mission he had to decline. At the moment, Kazuma was on break from college, but he would have to put a hold on his studies. As her flight left for Europe, Kuwabara thought it a good idea to visit Yukina. He had some nice timing though; he came on the grounds of Genkai's property as soon as the fire-ice demon left.

"Good luck and come back in one-piece guys." Koenma said as the trio entered the portal with caution.
"Of course, I will be fine, but I can't say the same for this idiot." Hiei stated, and Kuwabara roared back at him.
"Who says you're gonna be in one piece you freaking shrimp?!"
"You don't have to worry about us, we'll make it." Yusuke paused and smiled; "'Cause it's the only choice we have."
"Alright, guys just keep on your toes; Botan and Kurama both have their communicators on them so be sure to contact them once you all safely arrive."
Sayaka nodded and tried to smile, but she was still a bit apprehensive.
"I will see you later, so keep out of trouble!" She exclaimed in a cheerful tone.
Kuwabara and Yusuke smiled, and Hiei glanced back. After a flash of neon blue, they were gone, unknowing what could greet them.

The trio ended up making a safe journey, though the only drawback was that they were across two cities.
Flashback end.
The Other Human World!
Third Person POV:
"Hn. I sense nothing." Hiei utters, disappointed. Exiting the dark alleyway, he landed in, he glances at his screen's time and it blared 4:45 pm. Sighing, he shoves his spirit cell phone away in his pocket.
Apparently, the human they were to protect was a high school student and Koenma had arranged for their false enrollment at the school called North High. Hiei thought it was ludicrous to have him play pretend as a human too. He had seen what Kurama did in school and he finds it useless.
~I can see why Yusuke skips going. ~ Hiei thinks to himself. ~Just what is Koenma thinking? Is he trying to get me to understand these humans or something? ~
"Ha! Completely unnecessary on his part." Jagan boy scoffs out loud.
The moment he walks out into the open, he notices a sign that says Shopping Plaza Square.
~Joy, surrounded by shops and other human crap. ~
Some girls giggle as they stroll by, staring back at him. Not too pleasing for someone like him, so he glares back at them, but they don't seem to care; in fact, one of them has an extremely creepy smile on her face and her eyes seem to bulge out of her head, staring harder at him.
"Humans, impossible to fully understand…" He mumbles and brushes it off; as he continues his so far, boring search. He chooses to have a look around before contacting the others.

"Well, that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be."
'And I still have my legs and arms attached to my body!'
The former delinquent was glad that everything in the portal went smoothly, for the area he landed in carries a sense of calm and peace. It seems he is in a green grassy park in the middle of a city.
Yusuke decides to head towards the condos on the other side of town; binky boy said he would be living in.

-Flashback-
"Why aren't we staying together?" The spirit gun boy questioned.
"Because it would be smarter if you guys were spread out, and it would make it easier to fend off any demons."
"Makes sense, I guess," Kuwabara replied and thought for a moment. "Long as I don't have to be around a loser like him, I'm good." The carrot top was referring to Hiei, who chooses to say "Whatever, fool."
Yusuke wasn't very happy about the idea of going to some lame-ass high school, pretending to be an exchange student from Japan either.

-End of Flashback-
"To better suit our mission…" Mazoku boy grumbles, mocking binky boy's words.
"Suit my ass." He says bluntly. "Like hell, I'd willingly pretend to be a studious nerd. Kurama already has that gig down anyway." He cracks a smile recalling how geeky the fox boy was, especially being in his high school's Biology club.
Yusuke glances at the spirit phone he is holding; its clock reads; 5:02 pm.
As he strolls down the street, he notices a cluster of lassies and they all are gawking at him. One of them has a very outlandish look in her blue eyes, as well as a creepy toothy smile.
Before he can query them about whether their friend is alright, they all go off sniggering and running.
"What the hell was that?" he queries himself, confused. Deciding to brush it off, he begins walking again, somehow ending up in a noiseless neighborhood.
Glancing around he notices the homes seemed welcoming; however, an evil aura begins to form, and fast. The strength of the aura develops, and the punk follows his senses.
"Wonder if Hiei is feeling this..." He utters out loud. "Bet Kuwabara hasn't yet..." Yusuke somewhat jokes, but it doesn't lighten up the mood.
ˏˋ ̩͙ ̩̩̥͙ ̩̥̩ ⑅ ⑅ ̩̥̩ ̩̩̥͙ ̩͙ˊˎ
Kazuma glimpses around and realizes he landed in a somewhat crappy-looking area. Some local people notice him and stare at him until he glances back. Most of them are baffled by his appearance; he blames his orange hair, height, and scary-ish face. Too bad personalities don't show in a person's appearance. If it did, many people would be spared a lot of trouble. "Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly is to the bone." ( Dorothy Parker)
As the carrot top paces around he steps on a filthy box of moldy nachos, and he shrieks in anger.
"Gross! What the heck is this place?"
Folks exiting a CVS drugstore gaze in awe at him and think to themselves the guy surely must be bonkers to not know the area. The area is well known for the awful high school "Lose a Finger", a great number of car crashes, and sometimes shootings. Last year was bad considering three unrelated murders within two months, all took place by that CVS drugstore on the corner.
Just as he gets a bit situated, Kazuma senses a demonic presence nearby. Following his senses, it leads him down a string of ugly houses. There he spots a weird plant-like creature lurking in a shadowy filth-filled backyard. Acting in haste, he jumps the fence and enters the yard. He also notices a petite dark-skinned girl with long straight hair, and green light eyes- about 5 years old, playing with a little tortoise and a small, light chocolate-colored puppy. The child notices Kuwabara, and instead of screaming bloody murder, she inquires him to play with her. Her pets also react similarly, and both creatures wagging their tails.
When he gets closer, the puppy reacts and turns to growl at the dark corner of the "junkyard". The tortoise hobbles to hide behind the little girl and goes inside its shell.
"Look out kid!" Kuwabara screams, snatching the child, tortoise, and puppy in his arms before vines smash them.
The tall male is utterly shocked as he gets a better look at the demon. The body and head remind him of a nightmarish gigantic lima bean. The monster's large shark mouth, lengthy, creepy throne vines and its alarming blood-red slit for an eye sends fear coursing through him.
He knows for the sake of all of their well-being, child, puppy, and tortoise included, he has to fight it off, or it will go claim the lives of others nearby.
"Little girl, I want you to take them and get outta here, I'll hold this thing off; can you do that for me?" Kuwabara kindly asks.
"I-I think so, please don't let it eat you!" The little girl runs off, the tortoise and puppy grasp tightly in her tiny arms. While Kuwabara is preoccupied with the demon, tears stream down the girls' cheeks, realizing there is nothing she can do but run.
To be continued…
