Chapter 3; The Final Year
It is now the middle of the year- time sure flies fast.
Melody and James have become pretty good friends, and hang out almost every day. School is going well, despite a few rumors floating around.
Melody sat in her usual spot in the morning, sketching away in her notebook. She looked out the window and sighed. 'I have to tell him... If- If I don't do it now, I never will...' she thought.
"Hey, Mel~" James chimed and sat down next to her.
"H-hey..." she replied.
"Is- something wrong?" He asked.
Melody sighed again. "Yes... This- this has been bothering me since the year started, actually... since you decided to be my friend..." she began. "Please, hear me out... even if you don't believe me."
"Mel- what, what are you talking about?" He looked at her, concerned.
"I- I don't really know how to explain this actually... hahaha... I guess- I'll start with a story..." she said. "A long time ago, there was a small village settled near a fairly large pond- there lived a boy and his sister, and a girl... the three of them were the very best of friends... and the girl- was very much in love with the boy... one winter, they decided to go ice skating- but the ice wasn't thick enough yet... the boy's sister nearly fell through, but the boy saved her- in doing so, he ended up falling through instead..."
"Wait, wait- why are you-" James tried to interrupt.
Melody continued; "The girl was devastated, heartbroken and alone... that night, when she looked out at the sky, there happened to be a shooting star- and she made a wish... to live to see her friend again, no matter how long it would take... and that girl- has been living now for over four hundred years..."
"How- how would you know that...?" He asked.
"Because... I am the girl who made the wish..." she replied. "Whether you believe me or not doesn't matter, but I couldn't keep it to myself anymore... I made a vow, that this would be my final year... and that's why- I'm so happy to have met you, and have you as my friend."
"Mel-Melody... you-" he wasn't sure what to say...
"Please, James- tell me the truth now... Jessie called you Jack the first day we met. And I've been suspicious ever since I met you. I thought it was a coincidence- but you are so similar to the boy- to Jackson- are you..." she looked at him, as if she were about to cry.
He looked back at her, with a soft smile. "I've been waiting for you to figure it out, hahaha..."
Her eyes widened. "You- you aren't serious... this whole time..."
"Y-yeah... please don't be mad! I- I wanted to tell you, really I did- but I was afraid that you were going to disappear and I wouldn't get to spend any time with you." He replied.
"How..." was all she managed to say.
"I- well, that's a long story. I was given a second chance, in a way. Reborn as Jack Frost." He said.
"Frost... Jack Frost? Like, the legend...? The song..?" Melody continued to stare at him.
"Yeah, I guess so. The other thing- I lost my memory when I was reborn... and I only got it back after defeating the boogeyman with the other guardians." He replied simply.
"Wait wait, you what?" She laughed a bit.
"You heard that right, miss I lived for four hundred years." He said. "Tooth, the tooth fairy gave me my baby teeth, which held all of my memories from when I was Jackson... the second I got my memories back i flipped out... It had been so long- I really thought you were dead... and I was so upset... So, I started researching to see if you had any ancestors. There was only one name, and that's how I found you. I had been wondering how you stayed alive all this time. But you answered that, with your wish."
"I had no idea it was actually going to work... after a couple years of not aging- I was thinking about giving up... but, it was your sister who encouraged me to wait." She replied. "It was really sad... having to watch her die too... but I got to watch her grow up and have a family. You- you know Jessie is her descendent, right?"
"R-really? I- had no idea... I thought they looked alike, but I guess I wasn't smart enough to put two and two together. Haha." He replied.
"I'm really glad I got to see you again, Jack..." Melody replied.
"Hey, we still have the rest of the year right?" He asked.
"I- I actually don't think so... I- In my wish- I only specified that I wanted to see you again... not knowing for sure that it was you at first gave me a little more time- but... ah... I..." she said, grasping her shirt. She looked at Jack, smiling. "I'm so happy..."
She leaned forward, to Jack, just enough for her lips to touch his for a moment- before falling to the floor.
"H-hey-" he said as he caught her. "Me-Melody, we-we're at school, you-you can't... please dont- dont leave me..." he looked around
"H-help- someone... please..."
"Oh... Jack... I-I'm sorry... I- lo-love... you..."
"Mel...Melody..."
Melody's body turned into dust and seemed to evaporate into the air.
It didn't seem that any other students were too concerned with what had happened.
It actually seemed as though they forgot Melody existed, which made sense- since she should have died a long time ago, and never would have made it to this time in the first place.
Jack sat in silence, staring down at his hands where Melody had been moments before. He couldn't believe- they had both waited such a long time to see each other again and now, Melody was gone from this world, forever and he would have to continue living as Jack Frost for eternity...
Jack left the school, for he had no reason to be there any longer.
He went to the pond, where he always went when he was upset- to the beginning.
A/N
I know that happened incredibly fast, I don't think I was planning to make this story as long as the first one. Please bear with me~ again, this was written quite a while ago. Chapter 5 (when we get there) was also started quite a while ago, but im going to try and continue it where it left off, hopefully resolve the conflict and maybe, write a true Prequel/ After Story to My Frozen Heart. Thats a hard maybe. As always let me know what you think! It really means a lot to me
