Chapter 4; Reborn?

Jackson had gone back to the pond where he had been reborn as Jack Frost. He sat on a log that had fallen in recent years, and stared out at the pond.

"Oh Melody- I'm sorry..." he said to himself and started to cry silently as he stared out at the water.

Suddenly, the surface of the water started to break. Something emerged from the surface- and carefully floated onto the shore.

It was a girl, she looked to be unconscious, but breathing and wearing only an old tattered cloth. She had long blonde hair, as Melody did.

Jack shot up from where he had been sitting and rushed over to her.

"Hey-!" He looked her over, not sure what to do. He poked her cheek a bit in an attempt to wake her.

"Miss- are you okay? Hey- wake up..." he continued to poke her.

She stirred a bit, and sat up slowly.

"Eh? What- what happened- where am I?" She looked at Jack, with her deep green eyes.

"M-mel? Melody? Is that you?" He looked back at her, tears in his eyes.

"Ah- w-well I- I don't know actually... is that what my name is?" She asked.

"You- don't- remember- anything..?"

She shakes her head. "I- I'm sorry... I'm afraid not... um, so what's your name?"

"It's Jack- Jack Frost... and yeah, your name is Melody Overland-" he said. "I- don't want to overwhelm you... so we'll leave it at that for now."

"Ah? So- you were someone important to me then... if you know a lot about me..." she looks away. "I'm sorry I don't remember you..."

"Don't be sorry- I'm- just happy you're here..." he said with a smile. "

She looks back at him, with a confused look at first, then smiles.

"So, do you have somewhere to stay? And- some actual clothes would be nice too..." she blushes slightly,

"O-oh! Yeah of course- um. We can go to Jessie's house for now." He stands up and holds his hand out to her.

She takes his hand and stands up, and walks with him to Jessie's.

-Jessie's House-

Jack knocks on the door and waits.

Jessie answers the door not too much later.

"Oh, hey Jack! Welcome back!" He said.

"Yeah, hey. So- wait- can you see her next to me?" He asked.

"Huh? Who-? There's no one next to you..." Jessie answered.

"Huh-? Why- can't he see me...?" Melody asked.

"Ah- just a second Mel..." Jack sighed. "It's- just as I thought then"

"Wait- what happened to Melody?" Jessie asked.

"It's- a long story. I have to take her to North's then since you can't see her. I'll tell you the rest of the story someday- right now, I have to take care of Melody."

"Right- I understand. See you next Winter then?" Jessie said with a sad smile.

Jack chuckled a bit "Yeah, maybe a little sooner if you're lucky. See ya, little brother."

"Haha~ yeah!" He smiles as he closes the door.

"Jack- what's going on..? I- don't understand..." Melody said.

"And it's about to get a little more confusing- hang onto me tightly, alright?"

"I-I'm sorry what? Why?"

Jack takes her by her waist and leaps into the air, using the wind to fly to the North Pole.

Melody screams a bit along the way, "J-Jackson! P-put me down! It's- freezing here!"

"We'll be inside soon! Hang on!"

-North's Workshop-

Jack flies right into North's workshop through one of the open windows.

"Alright, let's get you something to wear-"

"Jack Frost! What brings you here?" North called, "Oh, and you have brought a lady friend with you?"

"Ah- yeah. Can we talk about her in a second? She needs something warmer than what she's wearing."

"Oh! But of course. Please wait just a moment and i'll grab something for her." He said as he walked away.

Jack turns to her while they wait for North to get back.

"You- called me Jackson earlier, while we were flying... did you remember something?" He asked.

"Ah? I- don't think so... sorry... i'm not sure why I called you that..." she frowned a bit.

North comes back after their short conversation, he brings a small red and white dress with leggings, boots and a jacket.

"Here miss, it's all that I could find that will fit you. I hope you like red." He said with a chuckle. "There's a room over there you can change in." He points to a room across from where they were standing.

"Thank you, mister North." She smiled and took the clothes from him and headed across the hall to change.

"Now, Jack. Explain?"

"It's- complicated but I'll try..." Jack sighs and explains everything that happened in the past few months to North.

"So she- has been reborn as you were, and now might possibly be a Guardian?" North asked.

"That's what I'm thinking... all I want right now is for her to get her memory back- if she's going to live forever, I'd like for her to remember me at least... but I don't want to force it all on her... I'm just glad she's alive- and even without her memory, I remember what we used to be- just having her by my side again is enough to make me happy." Jack said.

"Yes, you'll have an eternity to help her remember you. If you force it all at once, where's the fun in that? Won't it be exciting to make her fall in love with you all over again?" North said with a chuckle. "You can make it a game."

"Thats- I guess I didn't think of it like that but- I don't know North- do you think... she would fall for it?"

"It's worth a shot, what have you got to lose?" He gave Jack a sly smile.

"Alright then, I guess I will give it a go."

"Give what a go?" Melody asks, as she walks back to the two guys now dressed in what North had given her.

Jack blushed, trying to hide it he looked away. "Ah- you- look really nice- in that..." he said.

"Yes, I'm glad it fits you! It was meant for an elf, so it's a bit shorter on you than it should be- but it looks good!" North chuckled. "If that's all you needed Jack, I'll have to get back to work preparing for Christmas if you don't mind."

"Ah, right. Sorry- We'll be heading out." He replied.

"Don't be silly, you can stay as long as you need to and come and go as you please! As a fellow spirit of winter my home is your home, and your friend's as well." He smiled as he walked off to his office.

"Right- so- Melody... I- guess I should explain a few things to you now, huh?"

"Yes- that would be ideal... I'm still confused about many things..." she replied.

"Yeah... ah, why don't we sit down over here and I'll explain as much as I can." He suggested, motioning to a spot by the window.

"Okay-" Melody agreed, and walked over to sit down on the bench by the window.

Jack sat down next to her, and took a deep breath. "Ah- I'm not sure where to start... so- what is it you want to know?"

"Well, why don't you tell me your story?" She said, slightly smiling.

"My story, huh? It's pretty long, over four hundred years worth." He said, chuckling a bit.

"Well, apparently we have eternity. So start telling~" she said giggling.

"So you heard what North and I were talking about then?" He asked.

"Yeah... I did- I- didn't mean to eavesdrop on you, but I couldn't help it... sorry..." she looks sadly out the window.

"Mel- look I..." he wasn't really sure what to say.

"It's okay- you don't want to force me to remember you and I can understand that. I just want to know your story- our story... please?" She blushed slightly as she looked back at him for a moment, then back out the window.

"Alright- alright... I'll tell you- everything..."

A/N

Of course she's not completely gone. That's how magic works right? Coming up on chapter 5, might take a while to get that one out. Have to see where it left off and if I have to add anything to it so it makes sense. Thanks for reading this far! It really means a lot to me. As always tell me what you think!
