Harry Potter: The Missing Keys
Chapter 3 of my Harry Potter story, a long one as we're introduced to new characters through the sorting, anyway, enjoy.

Now onto the story.

Chapter 3
Unfortunately for Jeff, Amara and Carla, they weren't able to find Jamie on the train and by the time they did see him again, they were already in the Great Hall, waiting for the Sorting to begin. They looked around and finally spotted him seated at the Hufflepuff table. Alyssa and Leanne, the two Hufflepuffs he was closest too sat on either side of him and looked at him worriedly. They then looked around and their eyes met the other three in turn and they all, non-verbally, shared their concern, wondering just what to do, Jamie was in a bad way but wasn't letting them even get close to him, to even try and help. He was clearly hurting, yet avoiding any help, as if he was afraid of something. But before they could even consider things further, it was time, for then Professor Dumbledore stood up at the high table and began his announcement.
"May I have your attention please. Welcome to another year at Hogwarts, now I'm sure, if you've seen anything of the Daily Prophet over the summer you'll know that there have been terrible and drastic incidents at four of the great Magical schools." He said, giving his speech. "As a result, we have taken some of the students from these schools, Ilvermonry, Castelobruxo, Uagadou and Mahoutokoro. We will be beginning our usual Sorting and then, after that, our refugee students will be Sorted too, this is to help them integrate into their new home here as they will be taking lessons here too, to try and help them continue their lives and magical education, so I ask you all to be patient and, throughout this year, make them feel welcome."
With that he sat down and the doors opened and Professor McGonagall entered with the new first years.
As the Deputy Head led the incoming students up to the stool with the Sorting Hat, the others all shared looks and whispers at the announcement, Amara, Carla and Jeff especially were worried, thinking about the things they had been hearing and wondered just what these poor refugee students had been through and how they would be dealing with that, especially hear in a new and strange environment. But they were soon jolted out of their thoughts by Professor McGonagall's voice.
"Albert, Nathan."
The Sorting had begun as the boy hurried forwards and was soon sorted into Hufflepuff. Like their own Sorting, certain students stood out, either for the length of time of their sorting, or just their obvious strong personalities. The first who stood out was a girl named Francis Castile, a girl of average height with a thick build and pale skin, she had long blonde hair and rather confident brown eyes which reflected a tough personality, she was, no surprise, sorted into Gryffindor. There was some surprise as it took a while for someone to be sorted into Slytherin, finally Angela Franklin was and made her way shakily over to the table, clearly showing the typical first year nervousness. The next person to stand out was another girl, below medium height with long auburn hair, blue eyes, pale skin and a skinny build. Her name was Melissa Hathaway and she was sorted into Slytherin too, sending a pleasant smile to the others as she passed, finding a seat opposite Jeff who gave her a welcoming smile. She was certainly more present than the arrogant looking boy who sorted into Slytherin named Jackson Messer, especially with the glares and disgusted looks he sent to girls mainly.
Then came an interesting surprise as the next to be sorted turned out to be twins.
First Professor McGonagall called out. "Myles, Alannah."
An average height skinny girl with medium length blonde hair; blue eyes and fair skin stepped forwards and sat on the stool, the hat placed on her head until finally, the hat called out.
"Slytherin!"
The tables applauded as Alannah made her way to the table and then.
"Myles, Jessica."
The girl who stepped forwards was indeed Alannah's twin, with the only notable differences being she had brown hair and eyes instead, soon she was seated and about to be sorted.
"Gryffindor!"
She headed to the table of the lions as they applauded, yet neither twin seemed perturbed at being separated like that. The Sorting continued and Carla smiled warmly at Rain Thompson as the new Ravenclaw sat down next to her. Finally, there were only three students left to sort and of course two of them, Samuel and Rachel Weasley, another set of twins, were both Gryffindors and then, finally, Richard Wilson was sorted into Hufflepuff and the Hogwarts sorting was over.
"Now, we will be sorting the refugee students, I will also be informing you of their year and what school they originally came from, this is so you understand what to expect." Professor McGonagall announced.
The hall was silent as the refugees, a mere fifteen of them all entered. All of them looked around, some looked jittery, nervous, others looking relieved. Finally they all stood and were ready, all eyes on them as Professor McGonagall unrolled a second scroll.
Professor McGonagall cleared her throat and announced.
"Bosco, Silvana, second year, Castelobruxo."
A tanned skinny Brazilian girl of below medium height with long black hair and brown eyes stepped forwards. Her eyes darted around the room, not with nervousness but with a look that said she was trying to take everything in. She was seated and the Sorting Hat seemed to take no time at all.
"Ravenclaw!"
The tables applauded and Silvana, her robes gaining the blue trim, her tie turning to the blue and bronze Ravenclaw colours, and made her way to the table. She gave a smile to one of the other girls from Castelobruxo as she passed.
"Egebe, Marli, Second year, Uagadou."
This girl was notable for being slightly taller than the others, skinny with deep brown skin, medium length black hair tied back in a bun and brown eyes. She was soon sorted into Gryffindor and took a seat opposite Amara, giving her a gentle smile. The next two were a skinny tanned below medium height boy with short dark brown hair and brown eyes, a second year from Castelobruxo who was sorted into Hufflepuff, the other an athletic looking twitchy first year with fair skin, green eyes, black hair and around average height for his age from Ilvermorny, he sorted into Slytherin. Then came another boy, like Marli this boy seemed to draw whispers, if only because they were both wearing necklaces with strange pendants, not the same, but similar.
His name was announced.
"Iwashiro, Toru, Mahoutokoro, second year."
He was short, even amongst the others in his age group, skinny and pale with short cut black hair and dark brown eyes. He had a gentle smile, but there was something in his eyes, something which suggested he had been rather affected by the attacks too. The hat settled onto his head and soon they were waiting, waiting quite a while actually, a genuine hatsall, until finally.
"Hufflepuff!"
Toru headed for the table, finding himself opposite Jamie, looking a little confused and worried at how pale and drawn the red haired boy was.
"Lee Cameron, Ilvermorny, second year."
This boy drew a gasp, being fairly tall for his age and rather slight in build. He had short blonde hair, blue-green eyes and tanned skin, which just made the rather vivid burns on his right cheek and hand stand out more. He was rather quiet looking, tense and was trying to divest himself from the medium height tanned slender girl with long blonde hair and blue eyes who was clinging to his hand. He finally did so and sat on the stool, the girl watched him with fearful eyes, trembling.
"Gryffindor!"
Cameron Lee made his way over to the table, that was when they saw, like Marli and Toru, he wore a strange necklace. Then Rachel Lee was called forwards, Ilvermorny first year who was the girl who had been clinging to Cameron, now clearly revealed as his sister. Unfortunately for her, she was sorted to Ravenclaw, she went there, but not before sending a look of longing towards her brother, who gave her a gentle nod, encouraging her to go, which she did.
Then came the next girl.
"Luna, Ariana, Castelobruxo, second year."
She stepped forwards, tanned, skinny and average height, long dark brown hair and hazel eyes, another one wearing that strange type of necklace. The last one to do so, she was sorted into Slytherin and was warmly hugged by Silvana when she sat next to her, clearly both of them firm friends. There were still three from Uagadou to be sorted, yet only one each from Castelobruxo and Ilvermorny, two remained from Mahoutokoro. Two boys from Uagadou were sorted next, a second year name Kadar Madjer, dark brown skin, skinny, above medium height with brown eyes and short dark brown hair who sorted into Gryffindor. Then, sorting into Ravenclaw was an average height thin but athletic first year boy with black hair and eyes and brown skin named Simon Mugabe. Next came the last Ilvermonry student, a third year girl named Victoria Reynolds, tall for her hair, slender and pale with long blonde hair and blue eyes who sorted into Gryffindor. Then came the two from Mahoutokoro.
First was a boy of average height with short black hair, dark eyes and a thin albeit athletic build, Raizo Sato, a third year who was sorted into Gryffindor. The other was a girl, medium height with chin length brown hair, chocolate brown eyes, pale skin and skinny, third year Misaki Takashima sorted into Hufflepuff and now it was time for the last Uagadou student, South African second year, Ellen Taylor, medium height with fair skin and an athletic build, gray eyes, black hair and sorted into Hufflepuff too and then it was time for the final refugee student, the last Castelobruxo student, Jose Vargas, another second year. He was a surprise, despite being short he had a strong military looking build, with tanned skin, black hair and hazel eyes, he was sorted into Slytherin and finally the Sorting Hat and stool were removed and Professor McGonagall sat down and Dumbledore stood up.
"Let the feast, begin."

So we meet the new students, things are going to get interesting from here on out, a fair few of these characters will become secondary characters and have some importance, others I admit are there to just make up the numbers. But the ones to pay attention to, the ones who are in main character territory like our main four and Jennifer Howells are Marli, Cameron, Toru and Ariana.
