Chapter 39:Taking Back The Mines
Back in the base hours later asher with the two returned to debrief with dorian. He was sitting at the command tent sitting down with one leg crossed.
"Ah your back from your little trip to down how did it go?"a women voice said hoping for good results.
The women in question seemed in her early thirties with a toned build to her. Her hair was carnelian red medium in with that she wore some black leather pants with red hiking boots. Their was a toolbelt wrapped around her waist colored brown with several different tools. For a shrit she wore crimson red ahteltuc shirt underneath a black multipocket miltary jakcet with silver zippers. Her grimm features didn;t even look apparent except for her crimson red eyes and ghost white skin. Her mask was a fullmask but had one large orange circle in it.
On the table infront of her was a pair of chinese hookswords
Maya rubbed her arm spitting to the side"well it was going good until we ran into that silver eyed brat. "she answered which dampered his mood.
"Are you serious?"the women asked as yohi took a seat smacking his arms on the table.
"We are! That dam brat seemed to lose control for a moment. But we had to get out of their before she could kill us. "Yohi said which disappointed the women who walked over patting maya on the shoulder.
"Well sister callows would be happy for what you did dear sister."the women said as that women spoke up
"I am chi or by your host name Nell"selekt said walking over joining them introducing the women known as nell the cyclops knights.
"Because you did see the perfect opportunity to kill. Our queen would be disappointed losing another sibling. Though good job today ashy, please return to your tent"Sleket ordered as asher begruneld just walked off toward his tent.
Once he was far enough selket makde sure no was around pulling out the same crystal ball from her room. She cahnneled into it to call her queen for advice
"My mistresses we call for your audience"selket replied as her, yohi, maya, simon,wisteria and nell kneeled before it.
The ball glowed a dark red and black as smoke came out of the ball and before salem spoke to him again
"My dear selket. What bring you to call me? And why are the rest of your new siblings here "Salem asked motheraly as she bowed
"A thousands apolgies my queen. I wanted to call to tell you of my success we've had, eeverysince we came here. As of today we have four new grimm knights to our ranks"wisteria said
This just made salem pause for a moment before a smile gave over her face.
"That great to hear, with those four added to our ranks that makes twenty two now. But their more isn't their?"salem asked kwningly with as she waited for them to speak.
Selket sighed before answering"i know you wanted me to lure the silver eyed girl out using that brat. But in town delta ran into her using the other side of her eyes"she answered
Salem didn't answer at first before a look of annoyance came over her face.
"So the girl has awaken to the other power of the silver eyes. "Salem paused a moment before continuing.
"Callows you leave tomorrow with our new knights of grimm. I rather not have her eliminate eight of you with her eyes which would dwindle out number"salem begun as she looked toward yohi with a small smile.
"Yohi and delta i have a special task for you"salem ordered as the two stood up bowing their head before her.
"What is it my queen?"yohi asked
"Yes what do you ask of us?"maya added
"Yohi will be heading to menagerie to assist alpha and miss. Rupal incase they fail me. Your to head to mistral and assist kiyo on taking the CCT tower down"salem ordered as they nodded
"What about the rest of us my queen? What about the hayley girl…what are we doing with her?"selket asked very antsy on the topic right now. As the women chuckled slightly.
"I understand i tasked you to find the traditor partner. But word from our scouts is he left vale with the winter maiden. I assume to head to menagerie, but she can still prove useful. Bring her here maybe your family can have fun with her"salem suggested as they all nodded as she vanished into the crystal ball. Immediately they began to make preparation but selket smiled at the thought of slicing up that brat with her daughter and husband. She coudln't wait for it.
Back at the mayor house mercury and nora along with frankie where returning to tell them of their success on their infitration and their finding.
"Hey guys were back and we got some valuable intel"mecury greeted but was met to see mostly everyone in the living room except for ruby. The thanatos were their along with the others as they were in the middle of talking.
"Oh hey guys how did the infiltration go?"percy asked
"Pretty good we planted those bombs but uhhh we got very bad news"frankie replied nerouvsly which made them worry.
"How bad are we talking?"qrow asked as the four eyed each other for a moment on how to explain to them,
Nora neoruvsly laughed rubbing her arms"is it bad that their are four more grimm knights that just got made"she said ehsaitnly making them all just sit their in shock right now. Graz slammed his hands on the table.
"Four more of them?!"graz asked shocked right now.
"That…that makes about twenty two of them now. Thirteen was bad enough but that many we..we shouldn't even attack tommorrow"percy said scared not wanting to go through with the plan.
"We need to go through with it still, their taking sunshine to vale for some reason. "Mercury replied in slight anger.
"He right, but why would they be taking her to vale? Theirs nothing their except a destory city"ren added as the silver haired teen said something confusing.
Mercury rubbed his neck"uhh well you guys remember how they said he'll be happy to see you again"he reminded them
"What are you talking about?"frankie questioned scratching his chin
"That…one of our friends was a grimm knight who stared the ..he never had control of his actions they mind cotnroleld him. He might still be in vale…alive"jaune said with a small smile forming hoping that true. Nora looked at him for a second smiling.
"Hey if that true thats great, we didn't lose one of our friends then"nora said cheerfully
"That'd be amazing. Though it'd make sense why that psycho hasn't killed her yet. Seriously her entire family is mess up"mercury stated catching them offguard as reed narrowed his gaze for a moment.
"Young man do you have history with this women or something"reed suddenly said making him freeze hearing that. Jaune eyed his sword now wondering if these two were with salem forces. All of them were on the defensive as qrow sighed before walking over making sure the door was locked up tight. Then he eyed the group before telling them.
"The kid was. Apparently him and two of his friends got involved with a group that used them. Those mercs or whatever made them believe bandits killed their friend."qrow said quickly making up a lie which the other clued in on.
"Oh yeah i forgot you mentioned how you ran into her before after you three left"jaune replied
Mercury sighed chcukling"your not wrong. Seriously those guys are messed up…thank remnant we got out after serving them. "He replied sadly though nora quickly noticed something that being ruby who was missing from their group.
"Hey wheres ruby? Shouldn't she be down here or something?"nora questioned
"Oh your friend is upstairs. She upstairs after pasing out early but she….welll refusing to talk to anyone"Erin said
"Why would she be doing that exactly?"pollax questioned
Qrow chuckled sighing"my daughter just mad at me is all for lying to her for her entire life. Probably should talk to her in a bit."he suddenly said earning weird looks from them.
"Daughter? Who the heck are you talking about the only other chick with us is…ruby"mecruy said as qrow looked at him nodding with a somber look.
Nora went wide eyed"Wait your her dad?!"she asked surprised by this
"We were caught offguard by that too. Though i can now see the resmbliance and what miss rose mentioned when we were with her"ren added which confused them for a moment.
"Wait you met red mom?"mercury commented
"Oh you mean that women who was with…wu"nora replied with an upset look. Ren walked over gently hugging her in a loving embrace as some of them quickly figured out they knew this wu. But qrow feels like he heard that name somewhere before.
"I'm guessing you two knew that petal chick that comes into town for her arm"percy added as he nodded. But erin recalled what he said early wanting to test something.
"Early you said that some people came to his home. But you mentioned their after his eyes why was that?"erina questioned which made them freeze for a moment. Though on the table a familiar guanlent was their as the gem bursted into flames catching them very much offguard.
"Ah! Fire someone get a fire exstiigusher or some ice dust!"frankie shouted frantically looking for one to put the flames out.
"What the heck is going on here?!"pollax questioned until the fire took the form of a women who looked at all of them as she cracked her non existence back.
"Easy on the water kid. For starters that won't work on fire thats been burning hot for hundreds years``ember advised as the others tried to ponder if their seeing things.
"Okay am i going crazy or is that fire talking?"percy asked as erin pinched him as he yelped then she pinched herself feeling pain.
"Nope we are not dreaming….what the heck is going on?"erin qeustioned as the others glanced at each other deciding toquickly explain it.
"Well you see this guantlnet is owned by my sunshine. Appernelty its–"merucyr was stopped as tina answered it.
"That guanlent is an artifact known as the infernal guanlent. The story says that a women by the name of ember hayley soul was sealed inside it. By a jealous blacksmith who murderer he entire family. If someone wears it more than a day they'll be bonded with it until they die. Last seen by frederick hayley two hundred years ago"Tina explained as they stared at the young girl but ember clapped her hands in joy.
"It seems even the younger generation knows of me. "Ember said in joy.
Graz sighed"we need to stop letting you check out books on your own"he stated smiling his daughter was this smart.
"Okay this isn't weird at all"pollax replied
"You have no idea, though guess we gotta reveal to why we needed those contacts for my daughter"Qrow said as ember interest was peaked as she nodded.
Ember cleared her nonexistent throat"for starters their are people with a recessive gene in their family. Which in turn paints them as a target because those silver eyes are able to eliminate grimm in an instant like nothing"She said which caught polllax attention a little because they might be able to deal with these new grimm knights.
"Wait your saying some people with a eye color can kill grimm?"frankie asked
"Yep. though like i said it makes them a target probably why that man by the name of wu was hunted down. He had silver eyes didn't he"ember added catching them offguard as nora and ren both nodded. But qrow thought about the name wu until someone came to mind.
"Wait…wait…wu shui. That was summer old mentor when she had to control her eyes"Qrow announced
"Are you saying that knew wu?"nora asked excited slightly.
Qrow nodded looking down"she did met the guy a few times. Very calm and level headed for a huntsman went by the name sea dragon. Since he could summon a dumb water dragon with his semblance"he recalled but a somber look came to ren face.
"Shui did mentioned that. But he is not of this world anymore after he gave us time to escape."ren sadly stated which clued jaune in why he was so upset that this wu scarfieiced himself to save their lives.
"Thats…terrible to hear. But we should really be calling it a night if we'll attack tommorrow"poppy suggested as their guest left the house for the night. As they began to sit down for dinner for the night, qrow glanced upstairs.
"I'm gonna go talk to my daughter alone. I'll explain everything tommorrow"qrow said
as they nodded in agreement. The dusty qrow walked up the stairs as his metal foot creaked as he walked to her room.
Qrow composed himself actually ready to tell her after so many years of hiding this from her. He gently knock on the door to get her attention.
"Kiddio, you awake right now. I wanna talk about something…mainly being what you saw early at the pharmacy"qrow said waiting for her to respond which bothered him immensely.
"Sweetie please just…"qrow was about to knock again until the door opened slowly, he was met by ruby their with tears staining her face. She looked at him with slight anger as he returned a somber look.
"Talk about what? How you lied to me for all my life…pretending you were my uncle. When you were actually my dad"ruby said with with voice sound very horased right now.
Qrow sighed leaning agains the doorway"look…i wanted to talk about that with you. Can i come in?"qrow asked as ruby was about to shut the door but stop as a thought crossed her mind. She just held the door open as he stepped in as she just jumped onto the bed facing away from him.
The two sat in silence as he sat behind her fiddling with his hands for a bit as he closed his eyes sighing.
"What made you let me come in kiddio? Wanna beat the snot out of your old man"qrow asked trying to lighten the mood up. But ruby just hugged herself tight as she asked him something heartbreaking.
"Is..is yang even my sister…was that a lie too. Was she in on it?"ruby asked choking a small sob back. This made him go wide eyed as he just placed a hand on her head immediately rubbing it.
"No..no you two are still sisters…look i wanted to wait to tell you two this until we found your mom or when you graduated becoming a huntresses"qrow begun as the two eyes met as the silver eyes had tears slipping from them as his had tears slowly forming.
"Back then when i fell for your mother we wanted to have a kid. But i couldn't do it since i was infertility…summer was heartbroken to hear that. Tai and sis they helped us with that, good old tai was our donor. Nine month later you were born, you may not be blood related to me but i viewed you like my own felsh and blood"qrow begun as ruby shifted slihglty sitting up starring at him with her big silver eyes.
"Though you know about those eyes of yours…you saw what happens when you let your emotions run wild. Me and your mom were worried that my bad luck might get you hurt…i would never forgive myself if that happened"qrow begun tightening his grip
"So i told them to lie to you two telling you i was your uncle. They agreed to it only if i told you when the time was right. But after your mom went missing i was so worried that witch may hurt you. I wanted to bring her back so we could be a family again…but..but seeing actually proof of her being alive"qrow continued as he looked at ruby who lips quviered before lunging for an embrace hugging him for comfort as he returned it.
"I only lied to you to protect you…i'm so sorry kiddio for lying to you. Please forgive me"qrow cried as they sat their for a bit before ruby just hugged him tighter.
"I..i..do…but mom actually alive…i just hope sis is okay. Dad"ruby said which just brought a smile to form on his face as he returned the embrace. The two held it for a bit before heading back to bed for the night.
It was now a new morning over deepwald as everyone rose early today as they had a light breakfast. But they were now walking through the woods all geared up as qrow explained to the others what he said last night. Along with filling ruby in what they discussed early.
"So your actually her dad?"nora asked with her hammer on her shoulder pointing at qrow who nodded
"And you've kept this a secret from her and yang for their entire lives pretty much"mecury added as he nodded again.
"But their still blood related since you were unable to have kids."jaune added as qrow groaned rubbing his face.
"Yes, were past that now but right now we need to focus on the task at hand. "Qrow reminded as frankie and poppy were with them also geared up. Poppy was now wearing a pair of black combat pants with a red atheltic shirt. Along with armor similar to jaune but it looked thinner in appearance and had a poppy flower on the chest plate. As she had pouches on her legs with her swords on her hips.
"The guys right, even after infiltrating that camp yesterday planting those bombs. He wants to call it off"frankie replied
"Why wouldn't he, if their are eight of those monster their we'd be slaughter"poppy added
Qrow gave a smirk"nah you said they've only been here for a few months right?"qrow asked as the two nodded
"Whats your point?"mecury asked as he had something strapped to his back that being inferno and the arm shield rogue had. Along with ember as he held the fire spirt who materialzied infront of them.
Ember just laughed"that those grimm knights that were just made aren't as strong as the old ones. You said yesterday they ran away when her eyes activated correct?"ember asked qrow who nodded and surpsignly nora came to the conclusion.
"Oh! They don't want them to die, so they might try to escape to keep them alive"nora concluded with ember nodded at the girl in approval.
"Shes right, so we should attack them if were lucky we can take some knights down. But we need to convince the rebels to help us"qrow added as they apporached the patch of grass. Frankie pressed down hard on it as it opened then they walked back into the underground base.
Everyone was in a buzz right now murmuring to themselves while some were packing up their belonging probably to leave town. Others were aruging about weather they should even attack the base. While some wanted to rescue their loved one held hostage by them. Front and center was percy as he held his head with pollax next to him.
"We need to go through with the plan, we spent so much time preparing. They need our help"pollax demanded putting her foot down.
Percy just placed his hands on the table"in my opinion we shouldn't, we should just leave town since theirs ten of those freaks. We be sending everyone to their deaths. "Percy argued
Then he heard the other footsteps looking at them crossing his arms.
"Let me guess you wanna go send my friends here to die from those grimm knights?"percy asked
"Look you need to understand, we might have a chance against them"ren replied as some of the other rebels had a different idea on that topic.
"How could we have a chance?! Those things are particularly unkillable were lucky two of them are dead"a female rebel said
"Yeah, their are ten of them i don't wanna die"another added as several of the rebels and miners started to argue against it. While some tried to convince them, ruby looked at all them with as some looks worried, some with fear, and some who seemed to lost hope. The silver eyed girl decided to get their attention putting her fingers in her mouth whistling. Everyone got silent as they stared at ruby who took front and center.
"Look, i know your all scared right now. I am too…but you've all put so much work on putting a stop to the people who took over your town. In those mines you have loved ones that are being held hostage being used as slave labor. While some are being used by them to be experiment on"ruby begun which just made the crowd murmur amongst themselves. Qrow just watched his daughter as she had a determined look on her face.
"I'm sure those grimm knights seems like big threats…but their nothing are you just gonna keep letting them terrorize your town. Let them keep taking people and then just move onto the next town. We have a chance to maybe stop them from committing another tragedy like the fall from happening. Are you just gonna let these people do what they did to your home."ruby said as she placed her hand on her chest.
"Or are you going to stand up and fight for your town and put down some of those monsters"ruby finished as the crowd was slightly for a bit. Before they erupted into several cheers as they raied their weapons and threw their helmets in the air.
They all began to prepare immediately for the attack on the mine to take it back. They scrambled grabbing their makeshift weapons, armor, dust and ammo anything they could use to fight those slavers. As they kept scrmabling around everyone felt a little touch by those words that ruby spoke.
The girl just looked toward the group with a smile as she immediately walked over to a map of the mine. Without a second thought she came up with a plan.
"If those explosives are planted on their munitions, fuel storage and their watchtower. Along with one their armored vehicles we should lure them into a false sense of security"ruby began as they all crowed around the map as she pointed to the circles marking them.
"Okay that sounds like a plan, we've retrofitied a few trucks into armored troop transports"frankie added telling them they had some vehicles.
"Alright that will work, we have some people provided cover fire from the forest. I'm guessing you have something that can launch dust?"ruby asked
Percy thought for a second before motioing for some of his men to grab something. After five minutes they walked back with a makeshift motor to use.
"Will this work? It can maybe launch some homemade dust bombs on those thugs"percy asked with ruby nodding yes.
"That will work. We will need to keep them distracted while a small team of people head inside. If were lucky with that back entrance not being guarded we can have them sneak in. they can find rogue and anyone else their holding deeper in the mines. Any volunteers?"ruby asked looking toward the group.
Immediately mercury stepped forward obviously as jaune and nora joined him. Along with pollax and a few others rebels who offered their help.
"Alright your group will sneak in while we cause some chaos near the front gate. We'll denote the explosives when i give the signal. Then we drive them out of the mine and hopefully live another day. Go"ruby finished as everyone began to scramble to do just that. They all grabbed dust and ammo prepared for a fight for their lives. While ruby stood their smiling at the sight as qrow placed a hand on her shoulder patting it.
"Oz made the right decision making you a leader. Your mom would be proud of you…i'm proud of you"qrow complimented which made her smile.
"Thanks unc…i mean dad"ruby quickly corrected herself but it felt awkward calling him that still. They were now prepared to strike back against the slavers in the town of deepwald. But they just hoped to get to their friend on time and not deal with those grimm knights.
But inside the mine right now rouge and casta where just talking about stuff to pass the time. Mainly about themselves as she talked about being a huntress and a little about her family. Casta did the same but said that reo killed her father which was upsetting.
Though right now her current appearance she had blood lip with a swollen eye. Along with her side banaged since selket stabbed her for fun. But they patched her wounds up but her aura wasn't helping with the pain.
"So this one time back at beacon we start this big food fight. It was awesome i'm on top of some tables raining destruction down. My sister and her partner are ducking for cover"rogue begun as casta intenvily listened.
"Then while i'm throwing food down my partner is trying to defend them but he gets a watermelon stuck on his head. That might have been my fault then the combat teacher came in stopping us. Then a girl i know starts falling from the sky my partner trys catching her then she falls ontop of him"rogue finished snorting as casta giggled slightly at that.
"That sounds like a lot of fun…i kinda wanted to be a huntresses. Mom and dad were against it saying its too dangerous"casta replied sadly
"It is sometimes but their also alot of adventures you can go on, amazing places you can visit. I'm sure your sister support you"rogue asked
Casta nodded"She did, sis wanted to run the library our mom owned. Dad tried convincing me to run the mine…but percy and frankie are more suited for that"casta said smiled at saying frankie name.
Rogue caught this smirking"oh you and him you know sucking face?"rogue asked which make the ghost white girl skin turn bright red.
"Ummm i…i…we are dating…but he wouldn't like my current appearance. I'm hideous, i look like some monster they'll probably kill me when they see me"casta sadly replied
Rogue shook her head"nah i don't think they won't…i'm sure theirs some type of cure for you. My partner control his with some syringe if i had one i give you it"rogue replied as they sat their for a bit before something crossed her mind. That mainly being what was two days ago, her and eria birthday. The blonde just smacked her face with a quiverred breath.
"You know what i forgot?"rogue asked
"What would that be?"casta replied
"That i forget it was me and my sister birthday two days ago. I've been so focused on trying to escape and traveling to havan. It slipped my minds it the first time we won't be together for our birthday. Shes probably hates my guts"rogue cried as some tears slipped away.
The blonde just kept crying for a bit as casta soften her gaze then tapped on the glass getting her attention.
"Hey it'll be alright…i'm sures she mad that you ran away from home. But… maybe once your out of here you celebrate it. "casta suggested
Rogue rubbed her eyes as she sniffed"really? What about my sister she probably hates me for doing this too her"she asked
Casta giglged at that statment smiling"your sister you love each other no matter what, even if you get in a fight, tell them you want them dead. They'll always still love you no matter what"casta knowingly said making her smile a little. The two just sat their talking wondering if their will be any rescue.
Outside in the camp right now selket was loading up a few bullheads as they were putting on crates full of research data, tubes and a few dust containers. A large cargo ship was taking off that bore the crimson talon ensigna. While maya was with her
"Sister subjects lambda, nu, eta, pi are already leaving for evac. Mu is going with them to make sure their won't be any problems with them."maya replied as they walked around as she glanced toward another bullhead. shee looked seeing a small group of talon operatives boarding the bullhead but they wore their traditional equipment. But they all had hoods on their outfits with a pair of three red eyes on them suggesting to have goggles. While they had assault rifles and tactical swords strapped to their back. They were under yohi command also known as the crimson talon special forces unit.
"All of you onboard were heading to menagerie to assist alpha"yohi ordered as the soldiers pilled onto the bullhead. Asani hesiantly got on as she looked at asher one last time as he returned a somber look.
"Goodbye kid"asher mouthed to her as she displayed a happy emoticon before getting on the bullhead. They began to take off as they kept walking through camp. Until nell came rushing over with some soldiers.
"We got a problem"she said catching their attention immediately.
"What happened? Don't tell me your bullhead is not working we prepped them last night and checked them this morning"maya asked
Nell shook her head hesiaitng for a moment to answer then sighed"its that silver eyed brat, she praticually walking herself over to our front door."she replied which peek their interest.
"Aww she offering herself up to us. Good because if she here we can bring her and the haylye brat. Wisteria dear please retrieve her"selket said as they walked to the front gate as wisteria went to grab rogue.
Their was a small platform that showed whats past the gate. But near the woods with her hood up was ruby as she slowly approached the base. They all had their weapons trained on her as the mounted turrets aimed at her. It looked like it can pack some serious firepower. As she kept approaching selket decided to call out to the girl
"Yo hoo! What are you doing here exactly your on private property!"selket shouted to her as ruby stopped in place as the wind blew her cloak slightly.
Ruby looked up as she slowly pulled her hood off to reveal her face with her silver eyes in all their glory.
"I'm here to take back all the people you slavers took from this town! And take my friend back and stop you from hurting anyone else!"ruby shouted in confidence.
The soldier looked at each other in camp for a moment before a few of them started to laugh at their threat. A bunch of them began to laugh at this as the grimm in their cages snarled and growled as the slaves were in their pens. selket just thought the girl was insane, she may have silver eyes but shes not invincible.
"Oh thats cute! I guess i'm not the only other crazy one here but your just on itty bity huntresses! A trainee at best, just come on over and my queen may take pity on you!"she offered
But ruby just looked at her with a determined look as she eyed asher who noticed this. She gave a nod telling him something which confused him as he glanced at the woods behind her. He went wide eyed seeing several figures moving around in the woods as he caught the glean of someone scope. The huntsman just smiled returning the nod to her.
As they waited for ruby to do anything she reached to her side pulling out her scythe. She pressed a button extending it as she twirled crescent rose with one hand then buried the bottom of it on the ground. They watched as she slowly raised her hand then made a motion to charge.
In the woods percy just smirked as he pressed the trigger on the remote control. Inside the base the C4 on the tower started to blink slowly. Along with the one in their munitions, under one of the armored cars along with the fuel storage. They all kept blinking until they kept blinking faster reaching the countdown.
Several explosions went off in the camp as the fuel storage exploded in a fiery explsovie that could be seen in the sky. While for the armored cars two of them got taken out which left one more as the soldier began scrambling to figure out what was going on. selket watched as the watchtower carrying the turret fell over as the soldier leaped out of it for safety. It crashed into the other tower toppling them over. While the tent with their ammo blew up which caused the soilder to panic.
Ruby then pointed crescent rose at the base"CHARGE!"ruby shouted as from the woods several people emerged from them. Along with two armroed trucks that looked to be cargo trucks rushing toward the camp. While several people began firing their weapons at the camp as the soilder began to scramble to defend the camp. Both side were taking loses but ren spritned through the gun fire with a handmade shield. Along with some others doing the same, in the woods percy was loading some motors in with some dust.
