Chapter 78:To The Faunus Island
It was a bright new day over the city of argus right now as the snowy weather was starting to pick up pace right now with the coming days. Thought right now everyone in the city were doing their best to staph off the cold in the area. But right now in the hayley reisdents they were now having breakfast for the day.
Though upstairs in the guest room of their house right now were two of their current guest. That being verona who was sound asleep on the bed holding her daughter luna on her chest. While next to her was yang who slightly snroed in her sleep.
But as the two slept for a bit soon enough someone nudged yang awake which made her instinct was to attack someone as she got up ready with her fist cocked back at her attacker.
"Well your quite jumpy for someone your age aren't you"nina said to her as the blonde shimmered down.
"Sorry about that ma'am reflexes for living a whole week looking behind my back for grimm and bandits"yang apoligzed
Nina just laughed slightly at that"Your quite alright dear i used to be a huntresses a very long time ago. Though i retired now i live the easy life with my busted hip"she said walking toward the doorway as yang hoped out of the bed but the pity patter of feet could be heard as she glanced at the bed seeing snickers in it.
The small dog was panting for a moment before makings it way over to verona who was still asleep as luna was slowly stirring awake. The dog then got ontop of verona head before licking her in the face a few good times.
"Mhmm drav i'm not in the mood to fool around right now later"she lazily said
"Dear i rather not hear how you two conceive my new grandaughter."nina said causing verona eyes to shot open then she gathered her current sitatuion.
Verona groaned as her ears flopped"this isn't embarrassing at all right now please don't tell rae or anyone else about this"she begged as the two eyed each other.
"No promises auntie though my neck is starting to feel better and…"yang stopped glancing in the mirror right now smiling. Because that disgusting boil was gone right now with the help of cream and draining last night from alexs clinic.
"That stupid zit on my neck is gone pretty sure my kitty wouldn't want to see that"she added smiling
"We get it kid your excited to see your girlfriend. Though we should get our day started because i'll probably be helping that pliot with his ship later fixing it up and prepare it for tonight"verona said getting out of bed setting luna on the ground as the tot was awake but a lil grumpy.
"I want to go back to nappy"she demanded cutely flapping her little wings.
Nina cooed slightly"aww but you'll miss the most important meal of the day sweetie. I'm pretty sure your tummy hunger"she cooed as the tot nodded at that taking her grandmothers hand as she guided her out of the room. Snicker jumped down off the bed following the two.
Verona smiled seeing this"its kinda sweet seeing this right now. Shame my dad aint here to see this right now. He'd love to meet my husbands parents"she said while getting dressed for the morning slipping her shirt on as yang was close to being done.
"Hey that reminds me i get to meet my girlfriends family for the first time which will be nerve racking"yang admitted
The bat chuckled"kid i just met my sister and brother in law. And they seem to accept me being related to them pretty quickly which i'm fine with. "She said slipping her pants on looping her buckle through it.
"Now come on lets catch some grub and then discuss our plan"she added as she nodded at that. The two quickly got finished changing before heading downstairs for breakfast as making it was emerald who was allowed to stay in the home but forced to sleep on the couch which she was completely fine with. She slept in worse places.
As calida was humming slightly was setting the plate out while jaki was in the middle of a scroll call right now. Nina already had luna in a highchair as the older women sat down. The two sat down for breakfast as jaki was talking with someone.
""Thank you for your help for checking my workers. I can't believe thirty of them where those ruffins. I'm lucky someone suggested checking them for fake skin."jaki said into a scroll as someone talked to him as he nodded.
"Yes but please put back on my chief of staff right now"jaki said as on the other end someone was talking to him as he put them on speaker.
"Thank you. Jaki dear the workers are having alot of success right now with producing the products for the project were conducting. Along with crews six through eleven working on building and modifying those airships we have"beatrix said on the other end.
Calida smiled hearing that"thats great to hear dear, though how are things fairing over their right now?"she asked to her surprise she was on speaker as she laugehed slightly.
"In my opinion it warms my heart still being apart of your company. I can see that i was on the wrong side for a certain company. Though when do you plan to leave for menagerie?"beatrix asked on the other end to their confusion. As emerald helped set breakfast out consisting of some sunny side up eggs with a few strips of bacon. Along with placing a bowl of fruit out for people with a pitcher of apple juice in the center.
"Why do you wanna know all of sudden?"emerald asked as it got quiet on the other end as she sighed.
"Just curious because i hoped to see that wolf faunus you all knew"she answered to their surprise as yang ate her breakfast taking some small bites to enjoy it.
"What did dual traits do?"yang questioned with a slightly full mouth as calida recalled why she wanted to see her.
"Oh didn't she help change your tune on how you view faunus nowadays"calida asked as on the other end beatrix hummed.
"She did i already compensated the man for making us take that path causing eight brave souls to lose their lifes. I also want to apologize to a women who was with them that was pregnate who had their child on that dreadful voyage"she answered
Jaki chuckled slightly"well i might still need you to make sure everything is in order for the ships. But i'll let you know we can discuss this later dear"jaki said
"Alright then keep me posted"she replied hanging up on the other end as tehy all began to dig into breakfast. As they did emerald felt someone clawing at her legs seeing snickers their eyeing something with her tongue hanging out the bacon on her plate.
Sneakily emerald handed the dog a strip of bacon as it enjoy the treat gobbling it up. While luna used her little hands to eat her strip of bacon as she had an inncoent look on her face. After some silence for a moment they striked some conversation up.
"So since she borught the topic up when are we heading to menagerie to check up on everyone?"emerald asked to get it started
Jaki tapped his chin"Well i need to remain here to oversee the production of my ships. I may be able to join you when they're done leaving my mother in charge since she does have knowledge running a company"he replied to the other surprise that the old women could control the company her son owns.
"Wait you ran a company which one?"yang asked as nina chuckled slightly.
"Actually like beatrix i used to be apart of the SDC board of directors when nicholas was on board"nina replied to their surprise.
"No kidding huh so your family used to have pretty decent ties until your son started his own business"verona asked but nina huffed slightly at that
"I actually quit that company at the time when my son started his. Along with when jacque came into power and started using faunus slave labor. I was put on his board since i was an experienced huntress and i needed the legacy is being ruined by that mans name but to hear he also abuses his own children. It…"nina couldn't even form words for how anger she was.
But yang kept twirling a piece of her hair several times which calida noticed her behavior meaning she might be nervous about something.
"Dear are you alright you keep twirling your hair are you nervous about something?"calida asked as yang stopped what she was doing.
"What me nerovus? No way just making sure my hair is curly"yang said obviously lying through her teeth.
"Kid you only do that sometimes when your nervous let me guess your worried about if the island was already ruined"she asked as the blonde wanted to argue but groaned laying her head down
"I am….maybe the news has reported on it yet"yang said before depsoisitng her dish into the sink. Then grabbed the remote turning the TV on as luckily their was a news report going on as the news lady was starting it.
"In other news today we have fantastic news for all the kingdoms of remnant. As of late for our first piece of good news we have been told something fantastic. That two more of the knights of grimm have been slain which means five are dead and eight remain. The ones killed was the sabyr knight slain by the huntsman and despardos in vale. While the second the lancer knight thankfully slain by the branwhen tribe"the news lady said as it flashed crude drawings of the lancer and sabyr knight with horrid looks.
Verona growled seeing that clenching her fist"they got put out of their misery you dolt"She muttered to herself but they all heard it.
"Dear i understand your hurt, i'm quite surprised they actually used to be normal at one point. At least she passed on and is watching over her family beyond the veil"nina wisly said making the bat appreciate that from her new mother in law as the news report continued.
"But along with that in other news in the kingdom of atlas we have outstanding news right now. Over the years several people have gone missing throughout the kingdoms for unknown and nerfarious reason. But as of today returning to the kingdom to continue his work is moreau merlot renow researcher in the study of genetics, robotics and more specifically grimm. He was thankfully rescued by ace ops after being found in the ruined city of vale. Being held hostaged by the people proberly responsible for the fall of beacon and vale. This is channel five news signing off"the news report concluded as yang sighed in relief for a moment shutting it off.
"Thats a good sigh at least it seems nothing going wrong in menagerie right now which is such a relief"yang said relieved
"Yes though surprised to hear those two take the credit for finding the doctor. Though that bree women did seem to keep her promise"jaki said crypcially.
"What are you talking about?"verona questioned whipping luna face off to the tot annoyance slightly. As jaki picked up a cloth to clean his glasses for a moment.
"Oh its simply they were in vale doing a base inspection that bree women and wolf faunus on the team. Didn't rat my daughter leader out, and since menagerie isn't on the news'he said before blowing on his glasses then placed them on his nose pushing them up.
"That means they might have been successful in saving menagerie"he added
"Hmm they could have but i'm so excited to have you meet kali. She's going to be overjoyed to hear drav is alive"calida said picking up luna holding her in the air.
Luna flapped her wings again"i want downie"she deamned as the women relented before nuzzling the tot. As they all decided to maybe relax for a bit as some of them decided to go help out falk with repairing and maintaining his ship for tonight incase they leave for menagerie or discuss their next move later tonight.
Although in the tannin household right now adder was in his usual suit attire right no pacing like crazy around his room scared right now. Because he was starting to regret talking to those idiots yesterday now because that might mean salem was watching him. It made him paranoid that his sister and nephew might be in danger now.
But he was going through possible strategies since all he told them why he didn't off that stupid science experiment and thought he'd bleed out on his own. It surprised hm still one of his target was alive which meant he failed a job which he was fine with partial.
Then with a heavy sigh he walked to the bookcase pulling the fake book to undo its pressure plate. It opened as he stepped over grabbing one thing that being an orb.
The snake faunus began to channel his aura into it to call his employer and his queen.
"My queen. I call for an audience"adder replied
The ball glowed a dark red and black as smoke came out of the ball and before long a pale figured appeared before her in the smoke. It was salem
"Ah adder i take it you were successful in your task i given to you. How are your wounds doing?"salem asked motherly with worry it seems.
"Their fine my queen i'm still rather sore from the injuries i took. But i'll managed if you want i could start making my way to havan. They will heal by the time i get their"adder replied still bowing his head hoping his sister wasn't listen or worse his nephew.
Salem paused for a moment before giving a small chuckle which scared him right now.
"That will be fine but right now i'm wondering if you completed my task i assigned to you. Since you failed the last again"Salem said with a hint of annoyance in her tone.
Adder seemed to smile a little because he had good news on that hoping it would appease his queen right now.
"I..i did…i learned from using a fake identity to deceive them to ask where their heading. They couldn't really recognize me thanks to me always wearing my mask"adder said hoping she'll buy it as salem waited in ancitpitation.
"That wasn't what i asked tell me where they are right now"salem demanded as from the orb below it barbs slowly came off it hissing slightly going toward him as he shut his eyes shut tight.
"Their heading to windpath!"adder replied as this seemed to stop the barbs for a moment as salem had them retracted from that as a warm smile like a mother came to salem face.
"Excellent work then i take it you figured out their reasons for heading their as well?"salem asked expecting more
"No not exactly but i did theorize something my queen. From their route they may be traveling their to get to havan quicker. But…some of them seemed to have stayed behind to guard those factories for my previous failure on my part"he replied as he hoped she wouldn't be anger at that.
As salem pondered what to do for her next step the women then decided to give her next orders.
"Alright then your orders are to regroup with and the others in havan. He may disappointed at first but you've at least slowed them down. is working hard on menagerie to retack the winter maiden and the traditor."salem said as he nodded
"I shall be on my way soon my queen"adder said as salem vanished from his sight. Adder felt very relieved right now that she wasn't mad as all he needed to do was prepare to leave for havan.
That what he decided to do right now as he began to get a pack ready grabbing the extenstional at that moment. As he began to grab a few extra magazines for his assault rifle stuffing them in his pack. Then he began to stuff a medkit incase of any emergencies in the future along with any dust cartridges he might need. Then as he did he glnaced at a nearby picture frame as he picked it up caressing it for a moment.
As it showed a younger him smiling with a younger emie with bunny ears behind his head as someone else was with them. A girl who seemed to be sixteen years old with tan skin like his as she had dark green scales on her skin with red reptile like eyes. Her hair was brown in color cut short as she stuck her tongue out revealing a fork tongue.
Her attire con sited of a pair of tan pant with a green long sleeve shirt on in the picture. As he just held the picture of his older sister he lost very close wondering something. Was he wrong to accuse the entire schnee family for all the pain it caused his family.
After seeing the video of that schnee heiress getting whipped it was starting to make him have some doubts right now but he couldn't let that cloud his mind. Because if he does it could affect his other two family. But he was starting to think about maybe theirs only bad schnee in the world.
Soon he got out of his room walking downstairs to emie cleaning up breakfast as melody was their playing a game on bazz scroll that being a racing game since she spent the night last night as the two were smiling enjoying themselves.
"Oh little brother their you are i…"emei stopped seeing him with his pack before a worried look formed over her face.
"Why are you packed up?"she asked worried as bazz stopped playing his game dropping the controller before rushing over hugging him around his legs.
"Are you already going to leave uncle adder?"bazz innocently asked
Adder sighed removing him from his legs then hugged him"i'm sorry bazz i got a job to do. My employer will be pretty mad if i don't get their on time. Gotta head to havan right for an important job"he said making melody interest being peeked.
"Oh can you say to my big brother for me"meldoy inncoelty asked making adder flinch because he might have to kill her big brother. Which for some reason he rather not do for his nephew new friend.
"Umm i'll try to sweetie what is his name?"adder asked
"His name is perun…though he might be sad since he is his huntsman team leader"meldoy innocently replied
"Aww sweetie thats terrible to hear i'm sure your brother will be alright. It takes alot of time to heal from that type of thing. I'm sure he was the best"emie softly said as melody eagerly nodded.
"He helped me pratice my singing for my concerns sometimes and piano. He was nice"meldoy sweetly replied as adder on the inside knew who killed him tyrian. The snake just felt hurt right now seeing someone so young dealing with greif as the two kids continued with their game. But adder eyed his sister before hissing at her a certain way getting her attention.
Without a word she grabbed her coat walking outside with him as the two siblings stared at each other.
"Alright what do you wanna talk about the only time you hiss like that is something important"emie asked as he sighed heavily before reaching into his coat scribbling on a piece of paper tearing it off handing her it.
"Thats access codes for my my secondary bank account. I want you to have this incase things go south"he replied as she looked more concerned now.
"Adder…don't tell me this new job your taking might get you killed? Please tell me that isn;t the case i can't lose you. I don't want to lose my only other family i have left"emie cried hugging him tight right now not wanting to let go. But he regrettable pushed her back slightly before returning the embrace tiger emphzing something.
"I won't i need to do this job for my employer she'll be very mad if i don't. She might even harm you and bazz if i don't. Just…if anything happens in havan i want you to use that money to support yourself here."adder said undoing the embrace
It revealed a worried looking emie with tears on her cheeks as he whipped them away as she had steam as she exhaled from the cold.
The women thought long and hard for a moment on how to answer her little brother for a moment before regrettable nodding in agreement with him.
"Don't worry i'll make sure to keep my son safe. I also took a job up at hospital here in town and tempstas agreed to babysit bazz for me since she always at the music shop with her daughter. He can spend time their with his friend"emei said before chcukling at something.
"Whats so funny?"adder asked
Emei chuckled again'he wants to learn how to play the guitar actually maybe he might be good at it"she replied making him smile.
"Maybe he will though wish me luck sis and i love both of you. I'll make sure to come back safe and sound"Adder said slinging his pack onto his back leaving his sister who waved him goodbye hoping that he will be safe on what ever job he was going on right now. As the snake faunus walked through the streets internally he prayed that everything will be alright.
Later though in detectives apartment right now henry was going over all the evidence they have for the knights of grimm right now as he was impressed right now. As his bullet board now had over half of them covered now as he gave a proud nod to it as he was in his usual attire.
The man managed find out eight of the grimm knights identities right now which just made the man overjoyed at how much work he accomplished. With swan help it was a godsend right now that she finally turned a good leaf.
As he stood their deep in thought a coffe cup was put into his view"you happy we finally struck gold with this case?"nancy asked as he took the coffee as he took a sip of it
"I am because that girl gave us one of the biggest pieces of evidence for our cases"herny said gesturing to the board.
"Info on six of those knights of grimm!"he cheered almost spilling his coffe but he saved it.
Nancy chuckled sipping her latte with some whipped cream"i know right because i'm also excited that we hit a huge break for so many of our cases. I told chief early this morning and he was happy we got so much work done right now."the rabbit cheered herself
Herny chuckled sitting down"that great guess he'll stop getting on our butts now on finding those missing heriness"he replied
"Bad news man word is the hine heriness was recently kidnapped in havan"nancy said with bad news.
"That just great we figured out where three of them are granted we knew where two of them where. But glad we finally got someone to help us fight against that devil"henry said gesutring a dart board with jacuqe schnee picture on it white hair and all
Nancy picked up a dart as she closed her eye for a moment before throwing the dart into it hitting him square in the forehead.
"Bulleyes! Oh i'm glad we got alot of evidence against that guy now. Even that carmen girl agreed to testify against him"nancy said since carmen agreed to testify for slaver as wiess and whitley agreed to testify for child abuse. Even beatrix offered her help to their case.
But as the two sat their henry noticed some bills and enveloped that nancy set on the table as their were some breakfast beagles in a paper bag. The man tore into the bag pulling out a bagel with cream cheese on it taking a bite
"So i take it you got our mail today and the ones from the station?"herny asked munching on the bagel
Nancy hummed slightly"i did because might as well see what bills we haven;t paid yet"she said grabbing them beginning to shift through them at that moment. She was right seeing a few bills that needed to be paid right now. Along with one overdue for about a week since they were in atlas for a while. But as she kept shifting through them taking small bites out of a blueberry bagel one of them caught her eye.
That being a thick envelope that had the sender being"Williow schnee"
"Hey willow sent us something in the mail"nancy relayed
"Really let me guess its mail for her kids wondering if they are alright and asking us how the investigation is going right now."henry asked
"Don't know let me see"nancy said tearing into the enveloped with a pocket knife before setting it on the table. Reaching inside she pulled out a letter but felt something square in the envelope. Digging into it she pulled out a metal box to their confusion.
"What with the metal box?"henry asked picking it up opening it as it hissed ice for a moment then he pulled something out a vile of blood.
"Okay weird to put a vial of blood in their, maybe the letter can tell us why"nancy said as she tore the letter open reading it for a moment before her ears drooped over her head as she had a look of disgust and shock.
"What something bad about this blood or something?"henry asked taking a mid bite of his bagel as she showed him it as he read himself before going wide eyed at what he was reading.
"We gotta call the others along with victoria and add a new charge to the list of that sickos crimes"nancy stated as he nodded in agreement as the two just found a brand new thing to add to the many list of charges that jacque schnee has procured over the last two decades.
But early in winter apartment right now her and her tenets pretty much were all already finished with breakfast for the day. As they were in the process of getting ready for the day as carmen still walked around in her pajamas to whitley embarrassment seeing her like this. As winter decided to take today off as well to mainly do one thing mess with her sister boyfriend.
Since falk decided to stay with them until they head off to menagerie wheneve that is as he was in his usal attire doing maintenance on his machine pistol as he cleaned the barrel out.
"So your telling us that you and weiss started dating after you gave her a pep talk?"carmen asked as her tail flicked slightly.
"Yep and before you start integrating me i didn't marry her for her money."falk reminded firmly on his stance with weiss.
Winter huffed slightly giving an icy glare"Are you sure? Because most of jacque suitors would always try to gain her interest to help the company"she said in disgust because she herself had many suitors herself from jacque many attempt but in reality she actually swung for both teams believe it or not.
"You mean how he would have suitress for me lining up by the dozen. Some of them were just hapries"whitley added coldy himself
Carmen laughed at that"remeber when he tried to set you and zephyra up oh man she was not having it."she reminded as he laughed at eyeing her for a moment but looked away in time hoping she didn't notice though winter and falk both did.
Winter had a fresh pot of coffe in her hands pouring it into a mug saying"Ice Queen". She mainly got it as a gag gift from clover surprisingly for completing several successful missions in a row and he wanted to congratulate her. By gifting her this.
"Yes though i'm still quite surprised by hearing my little sister is a faunus. I wonder how her friends will react"winter said surprised by that still.
"I'm sure it'll be something making a bet one of them yanks on it"carmen stated
"It might be though pretty worried about her right now. Really hoping they haven't ran into any trouble on their way to havan right now"falk said very worried right now as whitley sighed
"I'm sure my sister is alright. You've said yourself shes a capable huntress and to hear she surivved in a war right now. It might put winter to shame here since she hasn't really fought in any wars. Not yet at least"whitley coldly said
"And i hope we never do with the defeat of some of these grimm knights i'm thankful their gone. But still i'm not surprised some of them are normal. "Winter said to their intrigue as falk pieced it together quickly.
"Wait…where you on that raid on the facility?"falk asked as winter eyes widden slightly sighing setting her cup down.
"I was, before you ask yes i did see your friend's cousin. Still surprises me to that day a child nonetheless survived those experiments. The thing i saw in there they were…"winter voice hitched recalling what she saw several bodies mutilated beyond recognition which made her shake to her core that day. It made her feel awful seeing this done to the people of atlas but also the people and faunus of remnant. Carmen noticed her troubled look.
"Don't gotta continue i'm gonna get dress up then we can head off to fix that ship. Since i got some experience with ships"carmen said as she walked toward the room. Once they heard the door click both falk and winter turned toward whitley who noticed this.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"he asked
Falk chuckled"i don't know you kept checking that chick out in her undies"he teased making his pale skin heat up at that statement.
"N-nonsense i…um don't find her attractive in any way in that attire"whitley denied hiding his blush as both laughed at his actions.
"Like i said with that lazuli girl denial is the first stage in love little brother. You might not know it but you might have fallen for her. I'm sure mother would be fine with it"williow said knwoignly since her mother was very supportive of her career choice for the military.
Whitley kept blushing mad right now covering his face"shut up…seriously i'm not in the mood for this. Look..i..um…may fancy her but she wouldn't really like a guy like me"he replied upset to their confusion
"Why the heck not?"falk questioned
"Well for starters i'm just a nobody now jacque removed my status as the heir to the company. All i had except for being related to the great nicholas schnee. Something i can't really amount too i'm not strong all i am is smart. Along with being good at fixing people up"whitley sadly admitted
Which made winter frown before walking over flicking him on the forehead"stop talking like that look i know your confidence isn't the best because of jacque"She said with disgust but rubbed his head gently
"But you are good at other things your pursuing a career to save people lives. Mother would be proud of the work your doing i'm produ of you. I'm sure weiss is happy as well and even our grandfather. He believed that a person is defined by who they are as a person not their name."winter wisely said making him smile slightly.
Soon carmen returned in her usual attire stretching until a loud pop could be heard as she rubbed her shoulder rolling it for a moment.
"Alright lets get that ship prepped for you guys to leave whenever you have too"carmen said though as she got to the door several knocks could be heard on the door which confused them.
"Ummm whats with all the knocking on the door all of sudden?"falk questioned as they all shrugged their shoulder. Carmen walked over throwing it opened to reveal the detectives as nancy had a look for age across her face right now. The two busted in as henry slammed the door shut.
"Please be careful with my home because i rather not have to pay for that"winter advised
Nancy covered her face"sorry but were trying very hard not to head over to atlas and shot jacque sqaure in the head right now"she stated which confused them for a moment.
"What are you talking about? Let me guess you figured out hes doing alot more heinous stuff or whatever?"carmen asked sitting down placing her hands behind her head in a chair. As henry decided to say it.
"We just got evidence from your mom proving that he raped someone"henry asked making the horse faunus eyes shot out of her head upon hearing that shocked right now. It hit the shcnee sibling like a freight train right now hearing that he would do something so unspeakable. Winter was praticualry fumming right now before grabbing a nearby wooden statue of something tossing it onto the ground seething in rage.
"Call the others right now along with victoria we need to discuss this here and now!"winter demanded as he already did.
After about a half hour later the others arrived as they left luna with nina in the other room as beatrix even joined them. All of them gathered wondering why they were called over seeing the fumming winter right now tapping her foot several times in annoyance.
"So why did you exactly call us over here right now because we should be leaving for menagerie soon?"emerald asked
"Yeah we gotta prepare the ship for tonight incase we leave. What you guys wanna hear more gossip about weiss?"yang jokignly said making winter growl giving an icy glare as the blonde flinched from that.
"This is no god dam time to joke about what we need to discuss!"winter roared in rage. As beatrix placed a hand on her to calm her down for a moment
