Not wanting to waste the day, getting out of UA was a challenge since the Second Years were competing in the Sports Festival today so people swarmed to see as Ciana finally freed herself from the crowds. With most focused on said festival, it was easy for her to take a train into the heart of Musutafu to start her shopping trip for ingredients to make more than just two or three pizzas. Ciana had a tall order to fill.
Spying the first big store in sight, she quickly made her way inside to grab everything she needed. Everything from the ingredients for dough to various meats to broaden both her options and her friends' choices for the meal. The mundane chore was like a breath of fresh air from the insanity of yesterday at UA.
"Sheesh it's been a while since I did this much food shopping… at least I remembered to get around here." She pulled out her phone to eye her GPS, wanting to make sure she marked her location so she doesn't get lost. "I'll have to make a note to make sure I buy a swimsuit soon, though I wonder if I should lay off the bikini in case Mineta tries something stupid…"
Already she sweatdropped sheepishly, recalling his disgusting fantasies he is so eager to please. "Maybe I should stick to a one piece to avoid that… but I'll still carry around pepper spray just in case." She chuckled to herself, grabbing the things she needed to put in her shopping bag as she moved along, having her list in hand to make sure she doesn't miss anything.
While scanning down the next aisle for cheeses, her hip bumped into someone, causing them to let out a 'huh' of surprise. Ciana backed up slightly to apologize when she realized who she had walked into. Two bemused crimson eyes stared back into her emerald. It was Katsuki, wearing combat boots, baggy black cargo pants, and a matching vest shirt with a skull on it.
As soon as she turned around, Ciana was stunned to see her explosive friend was here as well. Blinking her eyes a few times to make sure she wasn't mistaking the guy for someone else. "Huh? Bakugo?" Ciana never thought he would be here, she would guess he was at home being scolded by his mom again. Either way she's glad to see he's not ranting again even if he still looks gruff and mad, now smiling.
"Wow, what a coincidence seeing you here! I thought you still be home, you here shopping with your mom again?" Now perked up as she asks this, glancing around as she expected one of his parents might be with him if he's here.
"I have no other reason to be here," He grunted, jabbing his thumb over his shoulder. Ciana tilted right, spotting the older Bakugo shopping further down. "What the hell are you doing here?"
She thought that would be the case… but it was nice to see him again as Ciana still smiled. "I'm actually here doing a little food shopping, I planned to make pizza when I get back. Turns out I'll be cooking for the whole class so I had to get more stuff." Gesturing to the bag she has in hand.
"All by yourself?" He asked, his tone remaining very disinterested contrary to his gaze remaining on her. "You know how to make homemade pizza?"
She nodded, though was a little surprised he asked even if he wasn't interested in what she is up to. "Yep, Izuku is with his mom right now so I'm here on my own. I plan to make my dad's special pizza recipe and thought it would be a good day to make, why? Thought I didn't know how to cook?" She playfully asks with a raised brow.
"Tch, you can cook better than that useless Raccoon Eyes, she burns everything," He scoffed. "Kirishima's the only reason anything she makes is edible."
"Yo, Katsuki, who you are - oh! Hey there, Finley, nice seeing you again!" Katsuki groaned under his breath when Mitsuki approached with her trolley, giving Ciana a curt wave.
Now glancing at his mother, Ciana smiled back and waved as well. Happy to see her too. "Hi Mrs Bakugo! Nice to see you too, glad to see you're both still looking well." At least they weren't fighting again at the moment, though Ciana couldn't help but chuckle a bit at Bakugos annoyed groan as well as how he insulted poor Ashidos cooking.
"Us? After that fight you had with that brat with the cat claws I'm surprised you're out and about," Mitsuki noted, then furrowed her brow as she stared over Ciana's head. "One sec... You got a damn problem with us, huh!?" Almost immediately, several people scattered behind them. "Damn nosy onlookers, seriously kid, you didn't realize how many people have been watching you since you got here?" Now Mitsuki looked a little concerned for the oblivious girl before her.
"Thought your damn quirk can sense that shit?" Katsuki grunted, earning a slap on the back of the head. "Grah, the hell was that for!?"
"No one approaches you 'cause you're as approachable as fireworks shop set on fire," Mitsuki pointed out with a shrug.
"Not my fault these weaklings have a problem saying anything to my face!" He yelled back.
"Huh?" Ciana's expression turned confused until she realized how Mrs Bakugo pointed out that people were watching her… right! Ciana forgot that she was on camera for everyone to notice and recognize her… blushing red now just realizing this and maybe a little shaken up. "I-I can sense people's emotions b-but not like I can sense they are watching…"
This had her concerned now if she would gain stalkers, but grateful his mother scared some of them off as she sweatdropped sheepishly in embarrassment. "W-well it's understandable why Katsuki was upset… but at least you won't have people bothering you, I forgot people would recognize me… I-I didn't think I possibly get spied on…" now glancing around her more to see if she's still being watched.
"Idiot, the whole country's got their eyes on every idiot that made it to the final round," Katsuki stated like it was obvious, but to Ciana, it was clearly not the case.
"Brat's right, so let's go" Mitsuki nodded her head down the isle.
"Huh?/Huh!?" Ciana and Katsuki echoed one another. One with confusion, the other with irritation.
"Like I'm letting an innocent teenage girl waltz around on her own while she's got dozens watching her every move, better just stick with me and have this brat scare everyone off," Mitsuki smirked while prodding her finger down at Katsuki who's eye began to twitch.
"...fine," He muttered, tucking his hands into his pockets for a moment.
Ciana was very surprised by the request, it was really nice she wanted to look out for her but she didn't want to irritate her explosive friend more… or be a nuisance, glancing at her friend then to his mother. Not like Ciana didn't want to be around the guy but he didn't seem like he wanted to be around her. "T-that's really nice of you Mrs Bakugo, but I don't want to cause any problems, you both are here to get your errands done together, right?"
She glanced again at her explody friend to give him an apologetic smile. "I wouldn't want to be in the way if I'll end up just being a bother, besides not like I can't handle myself." Ciana wasn't much of a damsel in distress kind of girl, but she has to admit it would be interesting to spend a little time with the guy as long as he doesn't blow up at her.
"Refusing is pointless, the old hag won't take 'no' for an answer - ack!" He was struck again.
"I'm not that old yet, you ungrateful brat," She glowered then smiled back at Ciana. "No question here you can't take a hit and dish it back, but I better to just avoid the problem than make more, besides, about time I got more than irritated grunts from this sad winner here,"
"That Icy-Hot Bastard gave up halfway, that wasn't a real win...!" Katsuki seethed between his teeth as both girls looked to one another.
"See what I mean? Come on, just for a bit anyway," Mitsuki offered.
If they both put it that way… she might as well go along with it, chuckling a bit more at their funny relationship. Now smiling again as she nodded. "Alright if you really insist, would be nice to have some company anyways." This will be the first time she will be hanging out with Bakugo, maybe this will even be a good chance for her to talk with him more now that they are kinda stuck together but she wasn't complaining.
"Alright, let's get back to it then, we're not long before finishing here so what's left for you?" Mitsuki asked, as she eyed her own list.
As Ciana was going to answer, Katsuki leaned over to glower at her list, blinking once before looking around silently before inspecting several types of cheese, grabbing them for her. "If you plan to mix them, use these, they compliment each other the most,"
The gesture really took her by surprise, her eyes widened a little, noticing Bakugo was being not only helpful again but he seemed to soften up a little with her. Her smile rose seeing this. "You seem to know better than me so I'll take your word for it, thanks a lot!" She happily thanked him with a tilt of her head, Ciana is well aware how smart the guy is so she has no reason to doubt his judgments.
"And if you plan on making multiple, make the base thin to cook faster, it also means the dough is baked completely before the rest begins to burn," Katsuki replied after, walking slowly next to her. "If this is homemade then you probably need to adjust your recipe."
"Look at you, being so nice," Mitsuki chuckled to herself before whistling.
"I can be nice, you hag!" He burst, much to her amusement.
Smiling and nodding at his advice, Ciana pulled her phone out to make a note of what he told her, chuckling again seeing that his mom noticed his behavior too. "Katsuki actually has been really helpful to me since I started UA, without him I wouldn't have made it far at the festival. Hey that reminds me, where did you learn to fight like that? Are you self taught or did you have a mentor that showed you how to kick butt?"
She asked as she made a playful punching gesture with her hand, recalling how knowledgeable the guy was when he was teaching her how to defend herself.
"Of course I went to a gym to learn, anyone can learn to throw a punch or kick and take a hit, but against people from all sorts of backgrounds, anyone who thinks they can get by without even some form of training is an idiot," He then added as they followed his mom. "That Cat has trained longer than me, her movements combined with her agility and speed were hard to counter, no wonder she beat you, I had the ability to keep her at an arm's length, and she clearly saw through your obvious tricks."
It would make sense he would go there to get himself ready, looking very impressed with everything he learned and worked hard for. "That's really impressive, yeah I was aware Yuuki was pretty smart too with her moves… but I'm glad I at least made it far with all of you." She responded with her smile still intact, but then her eyes softened up a little in guilt.
"By the way I'm sorry I wasn't able to keep my word to fight you in the finals, I heard you were mad when I lost against Yuuki…" she rubbed her neck awkwardly bringing this up. "I may have lost but I'll work hard again so next time we fight I'll be a bit more of a challenge for you."
"You damn better, I already know your moves so next time we'll see how much you've learned," He replied, eyes forward. "I don't give a crap what yours and Deku's deal was with Icy-Hot or that Cat, you at least fought to win and didn't give up halfway." Yep, he was still annoyed to have won because Todoroki gave up.
Ciana smiled more at the last thing he told her, sounding like he was impressed like Izuku predicted. Knowing this made her feel happy inside. "I still have ways to go but no matter what I'll keep fighting." She replies with her fist raised in confidence.
"I'm not really sure why Yuuki was mad at me though… we barely know each other so I was pretty confused why she suddenly hated me… but I could tell she was going through some problems to lash out at me." Ciana still wondered why Yuuki didn't like her, but hopefully she will find out soon. "I know it might not mean much coming from me but Todorokis dad was the reason he didn't use his full power… but you probably already know that since you were there to listen too what he went through…" Ciana remembered Bakugo listened in on Todoroki's backstory with her.
"I'm sure he didn't mean to let you win, when his dads not around I'm sure next time he will go all out. We got a whole three years together in UA so you'll get another chance." She tried to cheer him up by saying this while still smiling, but then suddenly perked up when she recalled something. "Oh! That reminds me, I actually have something I've been wanting to give you…" she says as Ciana eyed her purse and dug her hand in to look for something…
While Katsuki had an idea what Yuuki had rambled on about, probably to do with how Ciana meant more with her words at times than her actions, it must've really angered the 1B student. As for Todoroki... yeah, Katsuki didn't care, the reason was stupid that even Izuku saw through it. But now, Ciana made his brow raise. "What exactly?" He muttered.
Ciana dug through her purse until she found what she wanted to take out, dragging it out, it turned out to be an omamori amulet with the inscription success on it. Holding it out as she smiled. "I wanted to do something to thank you for your help… I saw these at the festival outside so I got one for you." She rubs her neck a bit shly.
"I know it doesn't mean much especially if they don't actually work… but this is my way to show you I always believe you'll be successful and become a pro no matter what stands in your way." She smiled brighter after saying that, but knew he probably would find that cheesy…
His expression didn't change much, holding the item usually seen at shrines, those sold at stores weren't the real deal and simply appealed to tourists. This one was orange with a black border and yellow text of the word she mentioned. He stared at it for a while, mulling over her words before pocketing it. "These ones are fake anyway," But he didn't get rid of it, and kept it safe. "Of course I'll be number one, the sports festival hasn't changed that in the slightest, even if my win wasn't right,"
"I'm never gonna hear the end of it..." Mitsuki muttered not far away, but Katsuki stifled a response and left her to shop.
"...thanks," He replied under his breath, marching on ahead of Ciana quickly.
Ciana was at least glad and happy he didn't seem to hate it, she was worried he wouldn't accept it. As she watched Bakugo walk on ahead, her smile became warm as she stared at his direction for a few seconds before moving along with them. "Your welcome! I know your going to make an awesome pro hero." She happily comments, really meaning that with all her heart.
Ciana saw a lot of heroic potential in him when he's not having his anger get the best of him, Bakugo has a very rough attitude but she could tell he means well deep down.
"Don't go inflating his ego too much now, it's bad enough as it is," Mitsuki smirked a little as Katsuki ignored her and grabbed the last of their shopping silently, clearly wanting this day to end as quickly as possible. "While he mopes, tell me, how's he been? Again, don't get much out of him, any friends? Hell, some girl he's into would probably floor me," She chuckled a bit but her sharp eyes were watching Ciana closely.
Ciana giggled at her comments, knowing very well how proud he is of himself. Ciana kept her smile as she continued walking beside them while keeping her eyes on Bakugos mom. "I say he's doing really well still, the guy still acts all tough and blunt here and there but he's clearly still working very hard and been really helpful to me." She responds so far.
She has her hand on her chin now, thinking over what else the guys been up to. "And he's getting along with some of the students… They really admire his smarts and how good he is at analyzing his opponents. I know I was impressed." Ciana thought it was really cool how explody fists could read people's quirks like Izuku.
"Sounds about the same as junior high honestly," She shrugged, nudging Ciana's side. "Don't make Zuzu too jealous with all the compliments you're giving Katsuki, love triangles are worse than in books,"
"Deku can have her, leave me out of his stupid relationship crap!" Katsuki yelled back at them, grumbling as he walked a few paces ahead of them, muttering why he decided to leave the house today.
Ciana giggled more at his possible embarrassment, she really didn't think the guy would be interested in her since he usually finds her so annoying. But he really amuses her how he reacts to those kinds of comments. "I don't think he's really the romantic type… he usually finds me annoying so I wouldn't think Katsuki like me that way." She playfully comments, though Ciana starts to wonder how Izuku would react that she got to hangout with his former friend.
"I actually really ticked the guy off when we first met, though did I at least impress you how I managed to stand up to you and your explosive fists Bakugo?" She asks the guy playfully with her hands behind her back and leaning to the side as she eyes the guy ahead of her.
"You stuck to that damn nerd like glue, avoiding you was impossible, and you keep going on about the dumbest of things half the time," He replied with brutal honesty. "And yet you can take a punch and hold your own against tougher opponents and villains, even if the latter were lapdog thugs off the street. Like Uraraka, I wouldn't call you fragile,"
"Holy shit, he actually complimented... two people," Katsuki's mother blinked several times in utter bewilderment as they approached the tills, rubbing her eyes a bit. "I must've drank too much coffee today..."
Even if his honesty was blunt it was still enough to make Ciana smile, especially that he doesn't view her as a weak and fragile girl. "Well I wouldn't think what I say is dumb but it means a lot to hear you don't find me weak." Ciana never liked being viewed as a weakling too even if there are times she can't handle people who are tougher than her.
Though Ciana thinks she probably should change the topic to avoid more embarrassment from his mom. "But anyways, what made you want to be a hero, Bakugo? Was it one of the pro hero's that inspired you?" She now asks, knowing All Might made Izuku want to become a great hero.
"I'll get this sorted, socialize with her a little longer," Mitsuki ruffled Katsuki's hair until he smacked her hand off, arms crossed while watching Ciana.
"...out of every hero, All Might is the strongest, his speed, even when everyone else is panicking or he's outnumbered, he always wins. All Might never loses, that's why I'll be the number one hero, I'll always win no matter what, I won't be beaten towards my goal, even by Deku," He clenched his bicep a bit but relaxed soon after. "If people half ass their strength then I have no reason to believe I'm the best, not if I'm not pushed to surpass their strength first."
Ciana giggled at the way his mom showed affection to his son, then stood to listen to her friend's inspiration. So All Might is also the reason Bakugo wanted to become a top pro hero, the hero really has inspired so many people from his strength to his wise and kind words. It makes sense why everyone admired him, Ciana even began to admire him too. She nodded while still keeping her smile. "I see, yeah from what I have witnessed All Might is truly incredible and very kind. What I really admire about him is that it's not his muscles that keeps him going but his heroic heart."
She chuckled pleasantly after saying that, her arms around her back again. "Where I come from, quirks never existed. But from my perspective what I admire in people is that it's not the strength of your muscles that makes you a hero but the strength in your heart." She freed one hand to scratch her cheek shyly. "I may have not grew up admiring real superheroes but seeing how my mom stands up for herself against anything especially in a rough part of the city where we lived… really inspired me to want to be there for people when the authorities aren't around to help, but also to shed some light towards the ones who had it hard like me…"
Katsuki again stared for a moment before turning his gaze back to his mom at the till. "That's why she lashed out. Your words and actions aren't aligned. You want to stand up for others? Then you have to show it, not just taking a hit but fighting back. No one gets stronger just because you say they can. All Might made the whole world admire him, and many try to follow him," He elaborated. "Words don't mean shit until people know you can physically make a difference. That's what made that Cat take me seriously,"
Ciana has realized that now after what she has witnessed in this world, especially how Yuuki viewed her. Her expression became more serious now with a confident nod. "You're right, even if I'm not always successful I'll keep fighting and work hard enough to do better to show that." Her fists raised now in determination.
"I know I'm usually all talk but that's why I keep standing and not running, I want to show I'm not a coward no matter how rough I am treated. I won't back down no matter what situation I'm in." Ciana expresses confidently and determinedly, not willing to let anyone get the best of her.
He then pointed at her, "Then prove it, the Sports Festival, you and Deku got Icy-Hot to stop wasting his quirk, and you got that Cat to quit acting all aloof, it's a start," Then he huffed once almost challengingly. "But next time we fight, I'm winning,"
"You still lost to a girl," His mom chimed in
"Grraaah! Who asked you, ya damn hag!?" He yelled at her much to her laughter.
Ciana knew one of these days she will have to fight Bakugo but win or lose she will keep standing strong and is determined not to fail, but then giggled at his mothers teasing comment towards her son. Bringing her smile back. "I'll give it everything I got whenever we come to face off!" She expressed cheerfully but determinedly with her fist raised higher.
"But I'm glad to see your looking a lot better since the festival, I mean I know you're still mad but like I said you'll get another chance. Todoroki is now coming to terms with his quirk so I'm sure when you face off again with him he will give it everything he's got too, he's also determined to be a great hero just like you." Ciana does wonder now what Todoroki is up to, she didn't think he would visit his dad since he hates the guy… unless he has other relatives he wanted to see.
"Oi, you're next," Katsuki grunted, pointing to the free space for Ciana to put her stuff up. "Like I care what that half and half bastard does..."
"I would think you do if you were there listening to his and Izukus conversation before…" She ends up teasing with a playful smirk towards him as she sets her stuff down.
"I was only there because those idiots thought it was smart to talk in an obvious spot people enter and exit!" Katsuki yelled back. "Besides, he's been pissing me off with that stupid look of his since the school year started,"
"Right…" she giggled, guessing that meant he was curious why he was like that. "I was curious too why he was so glum and distant, I know I pry sometimes without meaning to… but seeing him like that made me want to help, believe it or not… I actually confronted the guys dad as soon as I heard what he's done to Todoroki…"
She sweatdropped when admitting this, knowing it was stupid but felt she had the right to stick up for her friend after what the class prince has done for her.
"Of course you did..." He sighed, running a hand down his face. "No wonder that dumb Cat tore you apart..." Shaking his head, Katsuki moved on autopilot to help his mom with their shopping while Ciana worked on her own.
[Transition]
After her unexpected meet-up with Katsuki and his mother, Ciana was soon on her way home with her necessities in hand. Sitting down for the train ride home, she saw that Izuku had texted her, letting her know he may be late coming back to UA. She also got a list from Yaoyorozu of who would want to join them tomorrow afternoon at the beach. So far, all the girls, and most of the boys agreed, and much to her dismay, Mineta. Kaminari was alright, so long as he and the short perv were kept far apart.
"Of course those two would agree to come…" She smiled sheepishly while still sitting on the train, knowing they might come up with another dirty plan. "Well I'm glad the others are joining up at least, sure will be a lot of fun!" Her smile rose again, looking forward to tomorrow's event.
Ciana looked out the window now as her thoughts drifted to Todoroki. "I wonder how Shoto's doing… I never got the chance to talk to him again after the festival, where could he have taken off to? I know it can't be his dad… could it be his mom?" Ciana recalled the woman poured boiling water on her son's face as his side reminded her of the man she feared… her eyes turned sad remembering that story.
"From what Todoroki expressed from describing her… she didn't sound like a bad person, her fear just got the best of her… I can't imagine how terrible she felt after what she did…" Ciana didn't hate the women but more felt bad for her, her gaze looking down at her lap. "I hope she's doing alright… especially Todoroki too, should I ask him about her when he comes back?" Her hand went to her chin to think this over. "Maybe that's still prying too much… I'll have to ask when he's not looking too depressed."
Before the train pulled off, thankfully, her passenger car was mostly empty, thankfully, meaning no one would recognize her from the festival's events yesterday. However, a voice did speak up in a mellow tone. "Finley?" She perked up from her thoughts, looking up to see the heterochromia teen staring back at her.
Ciana looked over toward the voice, her eyes widened in surprise that the guy she was just thinking about stepped on the train with her, first Bakugo and now Todoroki? Talk about major dejavu today. "Todoroki?" She stared at him for a few seconds but then her smile rose back.
"Hey! Glad to see you again already, are you just coming back from visiting your relatives?" Ciana thought he would take another day away but is very happy to see him again.
"My older sister and brother," He sat down in the row ahead of her, looking down at his hands for a moment. "I also went to see my mother,"
Cianas eyes followed him as he sat down, perking up when mentioning that he had a brother and a sister but he went to see his mom too which really surprised her, her smile turned concerned but happy at the same time Todoroki went to see his mom. "You did? How's she doing?" She ends up asking, but makes sure not to ask further.
"At first, I didn't know what her reaction would be, and yet she spent almost the whole time apologizing to me," His hand raised to his burn, "She said the same thing back then, only now I could face the same nightmare we've both lived through. She asked about everything, and because of that, I plan to write letters when I can," His face - no, his whole aura was a steady blue wave, not all of his feelings had diminished but it was far easier to see into his heart. "She's doing better, little by little like me,"
Hearing how his mother was doing and how she apologized for her actions… This was enough to feel so happy for her and her smile now turned warm. "I'm really glad to hear that…" she responds so far, sitting up more as her attention stays on him. "That is really brave of you to finally face your past, I can understand it might not have been easy but I'm sure it meant a lot to her from what you told me."
Her smile still stayed but knew what she did still haunted him. "Even if I hadn't met her I could tell she still really cared about you, sometimes when we're scared we can say and do terrible things…" her gaze softened a little sadly knowing how she feared her husband. "Sounds like she really wanted to face what haunted her too, not just your dad but how she hurt her child she loved so much… I bet she's even proud to know from the festival that you have grown to become a kind and better hero."
"My mom's not ready to face him yet... those at the hospital say it could be dangerous for her health, but that aside... what Midoriya... and what you said yesterday has given me more to think about, I'm still unsure what to make of my left side, if severing my ties entirely to my father is the right answer or not," Lifting his head, he looked to have found a small form of clarity. "I never got to say it, but thank you,"
Ciana really is glad to see he's finally doing better and that she managed to help him after all… Ciana worried she was making things worse but turned out she got to be there for him after all, hearing his gratitude just warmed her heart. "I'm happy I was able to be there for you, I really want to thank you too after what you have done for me."
Her smile now perked up brighter. "Even if we didn't start off very close, you were there for me when I was not only in trouble but eased my worries when I thought you all would think I'm a mistake after knowing where I'm from and where my power came from…" her gaze looked down shly but still smiled. "What you said when you praised my actions back when we had to confront those villains… made me feel really grateful you still viewed me as an equal, i was scared you would all hate me after that but it truly meant a lot to me you were there for me then."
"Oh... right, your welcome," He blinked, nodding once as he eyed her shopping, feeling it best to change the topic. "You bought a lot of food, why's that?"
"Hm?" Her gaze looked down to her bag, then back up to her friend. "Oh I actually planned to make pizza when I get back to the dorm so I went out to get the supplies I needed for it, turned out our other friends are interested in having some themselves so I ended up buying more supplies to make for everyone." She rubbed the back of her neck as shared this.
"They asked to help out too so it became a group activity when I come back." She giggled.
"I see, I don't think my sister ever made that before," Todoroki thought for a moment out loud. "She normally does most of the cooking and general clean up around our house. Without me being around as often due to the dorms her meals are an interesting change of pace, though my brother isn't as good as her from what I've seen,"
Her head tilted in a happy manner as she listened, very intrigued to have learned more about him and his family. "I'm not much of a cook myself but I picked up some pointers from my parents, especially my dad." Her dad being the reason Ciana knew how to cook up his pizza, very happy to share it with other people.
"Back at home my dad would cook up his special homemade pizza on rare occasions when either me or my mom had a rough day, it was his way to brighten our moods and have something to look forward to. It makes me happy to be the one to cook it up now for a change as it makes me feel I'm still home…" Ciana still missed her dad but is still very relieved he's doing alright.
"We had to let our maid go due to a back injury so, as I said, my sister does all the cooking despite being an elementary teacher, before my father dismantled any semblance of peace, my mother would cook for us. They'd make me zaru soba though I preferred it cold, it was what I considered a 'special occasion' dish," Then he scratched his cheek awkwardly. "I, unfortunately, do not have their skill for cooking,"
Right, Ciana recalled Todoroki mentioned he comes from a wealthy family. Which is amazing as Ciana never knew many rich people in person, it was stunning but money didn't matter much to her. "Well if you like, when we get back to the dorm you can cook with us. I'm happy to share my dad's recipe with you if you're interested."
Ciana wasn't sure if he was interested in her culture but she liked to share her American style with her friends. "I don't know if you're interested in my American style of how I make pizza but I be honored to share it with you."
"Isn't pizza Italian?" He thought but decided against asking. "...I could try, though I have no idea what to do besides what I've seen my sister do."
Ciana smiled more hearing he's willing to give it a try, really glad to see he's finally coming out of his shell. "Don't worry we'll show you, it's not as hard as it looks when you get the hang of it. Oh that reminds me!" Now recalling the plan for tomorrow.
"Tomorrow we actually all plan to take a trip to the beach to ease up from all the stress and have more fun for a change, would you by any chance like to come with us Todoroki?" Ciana hoped he would say yes, she really wanted to bring some fun in his life too.
This was a new experience for him. He wasn't sure about it considering he barely knew anything more about his classmates aside from what he's seen a handful of times or at the Sports Festival. Though he preferred his solidarity for now. "I'll consider it, I won't promises though,"
Ciana could tell he still was a lone kind of guy, but he's talking more and that's a major improvement. "Alright, I hope you do come though. It wouldn't be much fun without you with us." Having more of her friends with her would make the trip more exciting.
"By the way Todoroki, I been meaning to ask you…" her expression now looked curious as her head tilted in a wondrous manner. "When you heard I came from another world… weren't you curious where I came from? I mean… Did that news ever make you wonder what my home is like compared to here?"
"At first, yes, though I've heard you talk about it often; a world without quirks, and judging by your knowledge, and Midoriya's own comments, your world is roughly two centuries behind us," It was by far the strangest situation he's ever heard of, but so was their world. "I'm curious, if our worlds are really separate or are you from our past? Though I suppose it doesn't matter considering how vast the difference is."
"Well… anything is possible, I still don't fully understand it myself but anyone in my world that witnesses superpowers would come to quite a shock to them…" she giggled, smiling sheepishly knowing she was pretty freaked at first. "Though where I'm from, your hair color wouldn't be natural to us, not even having tails, wings or any animal like traits."
Ciana wasn't sure if people had those traits before they discovered superpowers, her arms now crossed as she thinks this over. "My worlds pretty average with just normal looking people like you and me, I'm not sure if we ever have superpowers in the future but… who knows."
"Your right," He agreed, though, she could potentially research into her present day to fact check but there was no telling if in her world's future that quirks would manifest. Glancing left, he noted their surroundings. "We're nearly there. But, if you don't mind answering for me. What is the significance between you and Midoriya?"
"Hm?" She blinked her eyes at the question in surprise, everyone's been asking that question a lot lately… is it really that strange she likes to hang out with him? "Me and Izuku? He's been my best friend since I arrived in this world." She answers so far, but smiles warmly thinking about him.
"Izuku saved me when I was being chased by some criminals, since then he's been there for me when I was lost and alone… I guess I grew pretty attached to him when he became so kind and caring towards me when we met, not many people would show as much kindness to me as him…" she rubbed neck shly at this and even blushed a tad bit. "But he's been going through a hard time too and I wanted to return the favor by being there for him like he did me, though I admit… even if we hadn't met, I know Izuku would have been fine without me either way."
"I see..." Todoroki was silent a moment, then stared at her again. "Though, from what I've seen, Midoriya relies on you heavily too. He appears to doubt his capabilities at times, and he mentioned if not for you he wouldn't have the control he has now over his quirk, seeing as it breaks his bones beyond a certain threshold. Even during the first challenge of the sports festival, when you both worked together, there was almost nothing the others could do to slow you down. You both covered each other's weakspots; that's just what I've seen though,"
"Yeah… his power sure is dangerous enough to cause that much pain to him…" her expression now showed worry and concern for him, knowing how much damage his power does to his body. "I found out my aura can help Izuku boost more stamina in him to control his power better, but it's usually temporary… I admit I was surprised Izuku wanted to team up during the first challenge, sometimes people view me as a battery, I'm not saying Izuku does but some of the heroes in training viewed me that way."
Her smile turned a little sad at that, knowing that's what the villain wants to use her for. "The festival sure was new and tough but has been an exciting experience for me, by the way if you don't mind me asking… you don't have to answer if you're not comfortable." She was a little afraid to ask but at least Todoroki knows she means well. "How… was your dad after you unleashed your flame power? Or after the festival ended?" She now eyed her friend in curiosity but concerned what happened between them after what happened.
"It was after my fight with Midoriya, I told him... for that moment, I completely forgotten all about him," He answered honestly, cupping his hands together. "Our fight felt like a breath of fresh air, but... after that, he hasn't spoken with me, or I've avoided him at the right times,"
"I see…" she stared at him for a few seconds, before offering her smile again. "That's good, that means you were intact with your own power. In a way that's proof it's your own and not your fathers, I told your dad that even if you unleashed your side, you haven't accepted his path and still your own hero. I always knew you be the better hero than your father could ever be."
She smiled more after saying that, then suddenly… Ciana got up to sit next to Todoroki… She pulled something out of her purse and held it out for her friend, another omamori amulet but this one had the inscription family on it. "Here…"
He blinked, staring at the offered charm curiously. A red and white colouration. "What's this for?" He cocked his head a bit, holding it up to read the word imprinted on it.
She smiled brighter as her eyes still stayed on her friend. "I know you're going through a rough path and have a bit of a strained relationship with your family… but even if your relationship is all messed up, I believe there's hope for you to come to terms with not only your mom but your dad as well."
She paused for a few seconds, her expression becoming more soft and warm. "Your dad wants you to see things his way… but I believe you'll actually be the one to get him to see things from your perspective, right now he views power and glory to be every hero's goal… but I know one day you'll save him from believing in something that dumb, you weren't born to follow in his path but to show him what a true hero is really made."
The Kanai Anzen omamori hung by Todoroki's gaze before he opened his backpack to put it away. "I'm not so sure of how things will go with my father, I'm still figuring a lot out about myself let alone the things he put myself, my mother and siblings through," Something like that can't be fixed with good intentions alone. What Ciana and Midoriya knew couldn't compare to the experience first-hand. "Maybe one day, when I understand more, for now... I still feel nothing but contempt for that man," That side of his aura hadn't changed at all. His scorn for Endeavor.
Blinking a bit as their stop approached, he nodded to her. "But... thank you for the charm, even if it's not authentic, I understand the gesture,"
Ciana completely understands his hatred for his father as she felt the same after when she confronted him, she nodded and still smiled in understanding. "Believe me I completely understand why you feel so much anger toward him, honestly I do too… he's got a long way to go, but if he truly wants to be a real hero then he has to first understand your views, but I wanted you to have this to more remind you that there's hope for you and your family."
She now goes to stand up, knowing they came to their stop. "But also that you have people who really care about you, everyone at the dorm is pretty much your family too now, and no matter what we will always be there for you Shoto." She eyed her friend with her kind smile, not getting off the train without him as she actually wanted to walk with him back.
Todoroki followed her until they were off the train, staring at the short girl for the longest time before replying as he stared elsewhere. "I've never spoken with the class much, so I can't say for certain what you've implied would matter... and, you should refrain from using a person's first name, though Midoriya seems to be the exception," He noted as well.
Realizing she called him by his first name, she felt her cheeks turn pink and rubbed the back of her head in embarrassment with a sheepish smile as she now walked out with him. "Oh sorry about that! I'm actually still not used to calling everyone by their last names here since I'm from America…" she laughed a bit awkwardly but still kept her smile.
"Even if you hadn't got to know the class much they still are concerned and care about you, I didn't think the whole class would stand by me to face that villain whose after me… especially since everyone didn't know much about me, but everyone's devotion made me feel so warm and happy… and I pretty much still view you as my friend so could be the other reason I called you by your name…" Ciana still wasn't used to the last name thing and didn't think she will ever get used to it.
"But I'll try to keep in mind more to be more careful about that… oh by the way, you probably already know this but I should still warn you Bakugo is still mad so I be careful next time you see him…" she laughed a bit, knowing how funny he can be when he loses his temper, but not the scary part when he wants to kill you.
"Right, I didn't use my fire..." He pondered as they walked, then noted her pink face from her earlier slip up. "You normally only use a person's first name if you're close to them, or for the sake of clarity, it's why I asked about yours and Midoriya's relationship."
"Oh right! Yes I'm aware I found out about that when I arrived here." She felt a bit stupid for not knowing that more by now… Ciana felt she should make a note of that on her phone to try and remind herself. "Izuku was actually pretty flustered when I kept using his first name in the beginning, though even when I heard the whole name recondition thing I still wanted to call him by name."
She looked forward as she walked by Todoroki now. "I mostly prefer if people used my first name so I asked Izuku if he stuck with mine, I don't mean to be pushy about it but it's what I'm most comfortable with…" her arms now behind her as they still walk. "But yeah, I actually ran into Bakugo when I was out shopping for supplies. He's still very blown up about the whole thing with you… but he's looking a bit better, I think…" she sweatdropped sheepishly, but has noticed explody fits eased up a little with her presence.
Giving it some thought, Todoroki then asked. "Would you prefer it if more people from our class called you by your name?"
"Hm?" A little surprised by the question, she thought it over for a few seconds. "Well honestly yes, but I wouldn't want to push that onto them if it's going to make them feel weird or uncomfortable. I might not be used to it but I can understand it's not their thing here, I just gotta keep reminding myself about that." Now freeing her hand to scratch her cheek kinda flusteredly.
"Asui is the only one I've heard to be informal," Todoroki pointed out before adding. "But you shouldn't overthink these things, some would probably agree with your stance considering your background, Ciana." He barely batted an eye as he walked on ahead a little as his reply left her visibly stumped for a moment.
Ciana was wide-eyed when she first heard her name come out of Todorokis mouth, she was silent for a minute to process how he addressed her, even if he couldn't see it she looked and felt really happy about that. Ciana's smile became brighter as she kept walking. "Thanks Shoto! That really means a lot to hear you say." She responds with clear joy in her tone, feeling like now they are officially friends.
He gave a small nod as they continued back to UA.
