Ed and Al were on the train to Hogwarts, sitting in the train car. A young teen girl sat with them.
"Hello!" The brown-haired girl introduced herself. "My name is Martha Bluebell, and you are?"
"Edward Elric." Edward introduced himself. "And this is my brother Alphonse." Martha handed Edward some spare galleons.
"What's this?" Edward wondered why Bluebell gave Ed a random sack.
"This is the spare galleons I am not using. There are a thousand galleons in this bag." Ed put the bag away in his pocket.
"Use it wisely." Martha left the two boys to get refreshments.
At Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Ed and Al went up the stairs and were introduced to a redhead in a green robe.
"Welcome to Hogwarts." The redhead explained. "I am Ginny Weasley, the Transfiguration professor here and the deputy to Headmaster Potter." Ginny explained the rules to the newcomers. "There are four houses, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Your house is like your family, and each comes with their own unique common room. Your heroic deeds and triumphs will earn you house points, and your rule breaking will cost you house points. At the end of the year, the house points will be tallied and the one with the most points wins the house cup." Ginny led all the new students in. They were greeted by Harry Potter, sitting in the headmaster's chair.
"Before we begin the sorting ceremony, I will inform you that my dear friend Luna Lovegood will be teaching Care of Magical Creatures." The students clapped. Luna was excited, looking fabulous in her yellow coat. "Slughorn has retired from his post as Potions Master, so that position will be held by Draco Malfoy." The Slytherin students cheered.
"Also, since the previous Muggle Studies professor was killed, the post of Muggle Studies will be taught by an actual Muggle from the other world, Professor Olivier Mira Armstrong!" Ed and Al noticed Olivier, with a stern expression on her face.
"Neville Longbottom will be teaching Herbology, and as a special treat, the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts will be taken by Hermione Granger!" The Gryffindor students clapped.
"Now with that being said, on to the sorting!" Harry pulled out the Sorting Hat.
"When I call your name, you will come and be sorted." Ginny announced. "Edward Elric!" Edward came to the Sorting Hat. The Sorting Hat was on Edward's head, and began the decision on where to put Ed.
"Interesting." The hat thought for a moment. "You've got the intellect, the bravery, and the resourcefulness. Very difficult." The hat was confused, since Ed had traits of Gryffindor, Slytherin and Ravenclaw.
"Gryffindor!" The hat had spoken. Ed was proudly sorted into Gryffindor.
"Alphonse Elric!" It was Al's turn. The Sorting Hat was placed on Al's head.
"Difficult, very difficult." The hat was torn between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor. Al loved Ed so much that he wanted to be with him.
"I want to be with my brother!" Al whispered.
"Very well then." The hat agreed. "Gryffindor!" Al was sorted into Gryffindor and hugged his brother, knowing that they would be together at Hogwarts.
Defense Against the Dark Arts Class
In the Defense Against the Dark Arts Class, the students were talking amongst themselves, until Hermione busted in, and brought the class to silence.
"Good morning, class!" Hermione introduced herself. "I am Hermione Granger, your Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, and to start things off, I will tell you about defensive spells." Hermione read through her book.
"Defensive spells are an important part of a wizard's arsenal." Hermione explained. "Using them correctly will provide effectiveness in combat. I will need a volunteer to demonstrate." Ed volunteered.
"Now, Mr. Elric, I am going to perform a Basic Cast, and you are going to block with the Protego Spell. Understood?"
"Yes, Mrs. Granger." Edward agreed. Hermione waved her wand, and Ed followed, teaching Ed the Protego spell.
"Very good, now block my attacks!" Hermione performed a basic cast, but Ed did not defend himself in time.
"Remember to time it." Hermione reminded Ed. She performed a Basic Cast, but Ed shielded himself with the Protego spell.
"Very good." Hermione clapped. "Next off is stunning. Stunning is a wizard's bread and butter. I will select a student to be your opponent, Edward. I will choose Jameson Gaunt from the audience." Jameson Gaunt, a Slytherin, challenged Edward Elric.
"To use the Stupefy charm, flick the wand and yell "Stupefy!" Hermione explained. Jameson performed a Basic Cast, while Ed did the Stupefy charm.
"Very good!" Hermione clapped. "Now it's time for disarming. Alphonse, why don't you have a go at this!" Al stood up to the plate. Hermione selected Mai Tsubaki, a transfer student from Mahoutokoro, who was a Ravenclaw student, to the plate. Hermione moved her wand, while Al followed. Al learned the Expelliarmus charm. Mai did a Basic Cast, while Al blocked the attack and did the Expelliarmus charm.
"Wonderful!" Hermione cheered, clapping her hands. "That's all the time we have for today, so keep practicing and I will see you next time." Everyone left, but Ed and Al.
"Ed, Al, I have some homework assignments for you." Hermione explained. Ed facepalmed.
"Oh, don't give me that, it will be fun!" Ed was convinced. "Your homework assignment is to practice the disarming charm on 5 opponents, and to block attacks and stun enemies 5 times each." Hermione explained. "This assignment is due on Friday, so you have a week to practice the spells." Ed and Al left the classroom and continued to complete Professor Granger's assignment.
