Chapter 8

Thank you to Trini12180 and guest for your reviews.

I wish there was a way,

That we could somehow stay

In this perfect moment in time

I'd give up everything

Cause this is all I dream about

Whenever I'm alone inside my mind

Port Charles, New York

Hardy Home

Steven arrives from Atlanta and hugs Steve and Audrey. "I got her as soon as I could. After Dad called me, I got on the first flight. How is she?"

"She's locked in her room. She's barely touched her food but has finished her water and electrolytes. She hasn't opened her door all day."

"Thanks, Gram." Steven knocks on the door. "Lizzy, it's Steven." He opens the door, and Elizabeth is curled up on the bed, shivering. The bedsheets are covered in blood." Steven yells, "Gramps! Call 911!"

Elizabeth weakly says, "Stevie, you came. I was dreaming…" Elizabeth passes out.

How Does Circumstance

Seem to Cost Us Every Chance

Jason walks by a motorcycle shop, and something draws him to the establishment. Steve leaves Elizabeth's room at GH to give the Quartermaines and Nikolas time to visit. He walks ambly around, silently praying for his sister. He sees Jason looking at motorcycles. He introduces himself again and offers his assistance. He says he had a bike back home and knows motorcycles. Jason says, "Did you say your last name was Webber? Are you related to Sarah and Elizabeth?"

Steven pauses and holds his breath, not knowing how much to tell Jason. "Yes, they are my sisters. I can tell you about the bikes and if you want to upgrade. Do you have a budget?"

Jason notices Steven side-stepping his questions but doesn't understand norms or idiosyncrasies. He believes in being truthful and only saying something if he means it. Steven will tell him if it's important. "No, no budget. I want everything."

"So you want the bells and whistles?"

"Bells and whistles?"

Steven remembers that patients like Jason don't always understand literal vs figurative meanings. "What I meant by bells and whistles is all the extras. It's a saying."

Jason grumbles, "I wish people would say what they mean."

Steven shows Jason the top three models. Jason chooses, and the owner says, "That will be $8,000. You will need a helmet for the bike. Anything on the rack for $50."

Jason dismisses the idea of a helmet. Steven says, "Jason, it's the law. At least keep it; if you ever have a passenger, they can use it."

Jason shrugs, "Fine. I'll take that leather jacket too." He takes a check from his trust fund and writes out the total amount of the bill. The owner asks for identification. Jason pulls a new identification listing his name as Jason Morgan. The man questions the ID, which does not match the name on the check, but Jason points out that the check says Jason Morgan Quartermaine. He's dropped the Quartermaine. Jason has all the other necessary paperwork.

Steven says, "You don't like the Quartermaine name?"

"The old guy? Edward? He goes on and on about the Quartermaines and how important it is to be one. I don't want anything to do with that man."

"Fair enough. Edward can be overbearing."

Steven needs to return to the hospital, but he also wants Jason to know the basics of riding a Harley. "Jason, if I may offer a few final words of advice, I'll leave you alone."

"As long as it's not about Sarah, okay."

"It's not about Sarah. She's left PC. Before you go out on the streets, please read the manual. You will need a license to drive a motorcycle. There is an empty parking lot where you can practice. You drove a street bike a few times, but this bike is much larger. You may not care about what happens to you, but others are on the road. Good luck."

"Ahh, thanks?" Jason puts the helmet in the box attached to the back of his bike. "How is your other sister? Elizabeth?"

"She's in the hospital. I'm running late to see her." Steven leaves before Jason can ask more questions.

General Hospital

Steven exits the elevator on the fourth floor. Amy Vining rushes to him. "Where have you been? Your Grandfather has been trying to reach you for the last hour."

Steven pushes past Amy and hurries to his sister's room. The Quartermaines, Nikolas Cassidine, and Laura Spencer (LuLu's mother) wait outside. Steve and Audrey are beside Elizabeth's bed when Steven rushes in. Audrey is crying, and Steve holds his wife. Steven asks, "What happened? Is Elizabeth okay?"

"Your sister lost the baby," Audrey says.

Steve says, "Uh, there are people outside I need to tell. Stay with your sister. She's sedated. Your Grandmother and I will make the calls."

Steven sits in the chair vacated by his Gram. He holds Elizabeth's hand. "Oh, Lizzy. You have had a rough life at a young age. I am so sorry. I'm not going anywhere."

Outside, Steve and Audrey told the Quartermaines, Laura, and Nikolas about Elizabeth's miscarriage. Alan pulls Monica aside and says, "We have to get word to Jason. He doesn't like things being kept from him. Do you know if he's staying at Kelly's?"

"I'll call Ruby. I'll call the bank to see if he's dipped into his trust fund."

"That poor girl. I'm glad she has Steve and Audrey. I wonder if her brother is sticking around."

Alan leaves an urgent message with Ruby, and Monica calls the bank to discover Jason has bought a motorcycle.

Nurse Barbara Jean (Bobbie) Jones checks on everyone's new favorite nurse. "Steven, how is your sister doing?"

"Her vitals are holding steady; she's being weaned off the pain medication, and when she wakes up, she will be in a world of hurt, and I'm not talking physical pain."

"Elizabeth is strong. From what Steven and Audrey have told me, she has endured a lot."

"I'm going to sleep on the couch until she wakes up."

"Nikolas Cassidine would like a moment."

"Okay, send him in."

Nikolas enters and tells Steven that Elizabeth told him a lot about her favorite sibling. "Steven shakes Nikolas's hand. "Elizabeth is fond of your sister. I'm glad she's in recovery."

"Dr. Simone Hardy says they are releasing her to her parents tomorrow. I want to help Elizabeth if I can. Anything, just let me know."

Kelly's Diner

Ruby finished closing, and the phone rang. "Kelly's Diner, we're closed. Oh, Monica, I think Jason is in his room. He gave notice; he found a new place to live. I'll check his room."

Ruby knock on Jason's door. "Jason, Monica is on the phone. She says it's important. Elizabeth Webber is in the hospital. Elizabeth is in critical condition. She miscarried."

Jason grabs his jacket and runs to the alley, where he hops on his bike. He passed his test an hour ago and has his new license. He speeds to GH and asks for directions to Elizabeth's room. Monica stops him. Jason, your father, and I honor your wishes by keeping you informed. Elizabeth lost the baby and is under sedation. She hasn't woken up yet. When she does, we must keep her calm. If you are unable to do that, you should leave."

General Hospital

Jason asks to see her, and Monica shows him the room, explaining that her brother is with her. Jason enters, and Steven updates him. Jason sits and holds her hand. He's trying to feel something for the girl who was carrying his child and lost it. He feels sympathetic but doesn't remember her. He wishes he had met her before Sarah and before she ruined his perception of Elizabeth.

Jason walks out, throws a chair, and punches the vending machine. AJ says, "Hey, what did that machine do to you? Dispense the wrong kind of coffee?"

"AJ, I don't understand. I don't remember Elizabeth, but I feel something for her. It makes no sense." AJ doesn't reply. "Come on, you must have an opinion."

"I do, but I don't know if you want to hear it. You don't like being told what to do or how to feel. "You don't have to remember her to have feelings for her. Either you are too stubborn or too scared to get to know her. You don't like to communicate or share anything but confusion and anger. Elizabeth is a special person and she will be hurting. Our family is hurting. When she wakes up, she will want to see you. The least you can do is be honest with her. Don't lead her on. She deserves better than to be deceived. There, that's my two cents or my biased opinion."

(Caroline), Carly Benson arrives in Port Charles and scopes out Bobbie Jones's place of employment. She watches the exchange between the brothers and is intrigued but dismisses them as her focus is to destroy the life of the woman who gave her up for adoption.
