The weekend after Beelzebub's rescue operation had been greenlit, Shido was called by Maya to her room.

Considering the fact that Maria and Marina had cleared his schedule for this, Shido already had a guess as to what he should expect from this, so he went along with it.

"Maya? I'm here."

The door was unlocked, so Shido opened it and entered the room.

What he found inside were piles upon piles of books. Or, to be more specific, manga. Shido could have sworn that Maya's room was pretty clean when he had seen it before, but then he noticed that the shelves were mainly all empty, so that's probably why.

He didn't really understand the purpose of this, but for now he entered the room. After he approached, he saw Maya sitting on her bed in the middle of all the mangas. For now, he figured he'd sit next to her.

"I'm going through my collection, trying to find what I have that Souji Honjo wrote… I figured it might help in bringing back her memories… if you think it's boring then you can leave."

"Oh no, this is just for me to separate things. You can read the pile over there, it's one of her works."

Maya pointed to a much smaller pile of mangas, about 10 or so volumes from what Shido could see. The name was Silver Bullet and the author was listed as Souji Honjo.

Shido knew of the mangaka by the name Souji Honjo, and he had read some of her works before, but he never paid special attention to it, nor had he read this specific one. As Maya said, there's a chance it could help bring back her memories, so Shido figured he might as well check it out.

Shido picked up the first volume and got to work. He figured it would only be possible to read one or two volumes today, but he ended up getting so hooked that he read through the whole thing.

The story… it was hard to describe, but it was really interesting. The main character was called Fatima, and she went through many adventures which would honestly sound absurd if they were to be listed out. It was so good that, by the time Shido finished the last volume, only an hour had passed.

"Huh? Surely this isn't how it ends. Do you not have the next volume, Maya?"

"Unfortunately, the series entered a hiatus a few years ago. I suspect it was when she became Beelzebub."

Shido said with a wry smile. He now felt the empty feeling of finding an interesting series, only for it to never reach its end.

"It's what everyone says, think of it as a rite of passage for Honjo-sensei fans. Here, I have other mangas she made, so try to quench your thirst with that."

Shido began to check out the other mangas by Souji Honjo, he ended up even finding and re-reading the one he had already read previously. While they were fairly interesting, considerably short, and had already finished, there was no hiding the fact that Silver Bullet was the star of the parade.

"Alright, I can't say I know her personally, but I at least got an idea of her personality by the author notes and comments… she seems like an 'interesting' adult, but she's probably a good person."

"Yeah, that's what I thought too after I read everything. In a strange way, I feel like we get to know her more through these than the manga she's actually known for."

"Now that you say it, it might be true."

Certainly, when doing a series, be it for boys or girls, comedy or action, or anything else, you have to think of how marketable it is and other such things, which cuts down on the level of freedom. But if it's a one-shot doujinshi on a series you enjoy, or even just an 18 series which people often expect little from, well that's where the author is nearly 100% free.
