"Yes, Lord Hokage.", Umino Iruka, who is now being in charge of the Genin Corps Promotion Committee reports to him. He is in charge of monitoring promising candidates in the Corps to be promoted into a Genin Squad or even into probationary Chuunin. "While the Yamanaka was unable to enter his mind, as it is laid with complex defenses that baffles them, they do able to monitor his mental condition the regular way. He has gone back to the chronic depressive phase he used to get back in the Academy. Rather, it's even worse than before."
The Hokage frowned. He had reread Makoto Hotaru's psyche report during his first and second year in the academy. While he does came to class, he was never mentally there, even before he awakens his bloodline and gain the ability to manipulate his own brainwaves to conjure up entertainments.
No, during his first and second year, he barely engaged in class as he goes into catatonic state the moment he sat in class and the bell rings to indicate school is over. He had only become Number 1 in Taijutsu spars because he had perfect chakra control due to how low his chakra reserve is. Then he was stick in Number 2 after Sasuke was demoted to Class F.
His behavior in class before he befriended by Naruto and Sasuke was a stark contrast to before he was enrolled into the Academy.
The Konoha orphanage system is a ruthless preliminary recruitment system. It pitched children against one another over limited resources and force them to either adapt or die.
This lead the Genin Corps to be filled with unstable and highly aggressive career Genins. Expendable pawns to be thrown to the meat grinder of war. It is a crude system but effective in grooming the bulk of their vanguard forces.
However, sometimes the ruthless orphanage system lead to the birth of monsters.
Mitarashi Anko for example. She was a clanless orphan and had for some reason picked mitarashi as her new surname. She was a monster even before enrolling in the Academy and once she did, she quickly rose to Class B and later was picked into Orochimaru's personal apprenticeship.
Makoto Hotaru was supposed to be the next Mitarashi Anko. At the age of seven during winter, he had killed three kids few years older than him and then dispose off their body as good as he could as an untrained child. Before that, he was in constant fights with other children. Some he lost. Some he won. The scouts monitoring him had marked great interest over his intellect in solving crisis as a seven years old orphan with a weak body. The moment they see his competence in murder and disposal (for a kid), they had only enrolled him into Class F as formality and fully intended to promote him as soon as possible.
Instead, Makoto Hotaru performance crashed down the moment he gained the bare minimum shelter and supplies as a trainee cadet.
Makoto's observers had made a mistake in analyzing his mental states during the preliminary phase. Makoto is not Mitarashi Anko. He was not a natural sociopath like her.
He was forced to be one.
The moment he reached safety and no longer stuck in fight or die mode, he immediately crashed and collapsed. The trauma of things he had done to survive finally catch up on him and he becomes a living corpse that just reacting barely to instructions. He was deemed as failure and everyone takes their eyes off from him.
Then one day, he responded to Naruto's goading and proceed to jam a fork into a power socket. The ghost had return back to life, even if it was hard to make him stay.
The first time The Hokage meet the boy face to face ... Naruto and Sasuke did not remember this but the day they brought the Hokage to meet Makoto Hotaru, they collapsed from the sudden surge of killing intent from Makoto. Directed straight to him. Makoto Hotaru has nothing but immense hatred for the Hokage. No matter how Hiruzen try to placate him, the hatred had never once dimmed. It had only grew stronger.
It goes to show how good Makoto is at compartmentilazation that Makoto can perfectly interact with him professionally while wanting to murder Hiruzen with all his might. He was constantly monitored by Byakugan users in the ANBU from 5 miles away to make sure he doesn't plan to assasinate the Hokage or betray the village in some way.
However, once Makoto Hotaru saved the Hyuuga clan, no Hyuuga in the ANBU want to monitor him anymore. So, they now monitor him through high definition telescopes to avoid being detected by his Electromagnetic Sense.
It's not perfect but it's better than nothing.
"However, he did force himself to surface whenever Hanabi or the vixen comes around.", Iruka added.
"Really?"
"Yes, Lord. Even if it looks like he's going to collapse into pieces, he will force himself to get out of his depressive state as long as those two are around.", Iruka reported sadly.
Before, Iruka had dismissed him as nothing more than a psychopath.
Now, he felt nothing but guilt. What a fool he was.
Chronic asocial and antisocial behavior. Proneness to escape into his imagination instead of interacting with reality. Treating everyone that he does not open up to as nothing more than object. Fear of Commitment. Fear of Not Fulfilling Commitment. Situational efficiency just to get out of trouble as soon as possible. Constant lethargic state. Lack of self-preservation instinct.
There's so many signs that this is a severely broken child. How did he not see it?
Like everyone, Iruka had bought into the image of Makoto Hotaru the Idiot Savant, master of Outstupid Maneuvers, genius of unconventional problem solving. A sociopath that had zero remorse and hesitation to resort to murder to solve the problem.
Iruka had failed as a teacher. He doesnt know which is worse. That Makoto Hotaru is such a master of self-denial that he had fooled everyone around him or that Iruka was a judgemental idiot that couldn't see something so obvious.
"I have made a decision, Iruka. A decision that can finally help Makoto Hotaru live up to his potential."
"Help? How are we supposed to help him, Lord? No Yamanaka can enter into his Mindscape to get rid of those awful memories and traumas. And I doubt Makoto will ever be cooperative with any counselors and therapists we assign to him. He may be obedient but he doesn't trust Konoha with all his heart."
"I know Iruka.", Hiruzen sighed. He felt so old. "I try to help him as a grandfather figure like with Naruto and Sasuke. But as you said, Makoto will never trust Konoha. There is only one way I can help him, Iruka."
"How?"
"By becoming his enemy."

How long since I had crashed out like this?
Makoto Hotaru has been staring to the ceiling for hours now. No matter how much energy he tries to muster. His body wont move. He doesn't want to die. No. He can't even feel. He's just... Blank ...
He'a just... a ghost. He doesn't exist. Not really.
When Makoto Hotaru first received the memories of a weeb, the Metaknowledge, he wasn't like this. Sure, he started to make reference jokes that no one understands and had some existential crisis over realising he is now in anime.
However, while Hotaru was not really an Earthling that Self Inserted into a Narutoverse, he does feel excited. He can be friends with Naruto, stop the Uchiha Massacre and saves Sasuke from the Path of Edge, maybe get to make doujins for Jiraiya.
He wants to join eating ramen with Iruka at Ichiraku.
He wants to help Sakura become someone with actual self-worth and not a pathetic fangirl begging for Sasuke attention which get bashed in fanfics.
He wants to help Neji confront his trauma, help Hinata overcome her anxiety and help stop the abuse of Branch Hyuuga.
He wants to make Shino cool by introducing the idea of Kamen Rider.
He wants to pet Akamaru and maybe help out Kiba to be something more than just a tracking device.
He wants to do a lot of thing for the Konoha cast. His memories of the Naruto anime and the fanfics is nothing but rosy memory of enjoyment.
What kind of a Naruto fan who wouldn't want to live in Konoha and help out the canon cast overcoming their problems?
Makoto Hotaru had been dissapointed that he has no cheat codes like the usual Self Insert OCs. Not that he actually believe that. He just joked about it but he didn't actually believe he is an SI-OC, especially when he has nothing special about him. The only he got for him was that he looks like a miniature version of his mother, except of her pink colored iris. He had gotten the electric blue iris of his father.
Makoto Hotaru was just a seven year old child looking forward to be part of the Naruto story. A weak child with nothing special but Metaknowledge. Even so, with Metaknowledge,
Maybe he can make some difference.
However, the one year he had to wait to enter the Academy broke him.
Hotaru was small and looks girly. Everyday, he would be beaten up by bigger and older kids that doesnt get recruited into the Academy. Pre-Academy training, they said. The failed kids used the younger kids as anger outlets, beating them up everyday if they ever catch them. Sometimes, Academy cadets came to the orphanages and use them as practice dummies.
Hotaru still has scars when his backside was used as shuriken and kunai targetting board. He had almost died if not because Mizuki of all people saw it and shoo the kids away before sending him to the hospital.
He's constantly starved. To eat, he has to steal from the nearby gardens and stalls, however at the start he wasn't that good at it. He had his hand and legs broken several times by the owners he stolen from.
Amd then, medic traines use wounded kids like him as medic jutsu training. The trainees made mistakes in realigning his broken bones sometimes, so they have to broke it back and reset it.
All while kids like Hotaru wasn't sedated. They wont heal them if they're not conscious for it..so they have to be awake as they feel every single bits of pain of having your bones and flesh being regenerated from scratch.
Konoha Medical Jutsu is the most advanced in the world for a reason.
They practice it on conscious patient all the time. 'You cant be sedated while being healed in war', they said. 'This is pain tolerance training', they said.
Even so, in the six months of pure torture he went through, Hotaru had persevered. In his mind, he had only one thought.
Dear gods, if they did this much to a noname background character like me, what kind of torture they have been putting Naruto through?
Hotaru had search for Naruto everyday with whatever spare time he had without being busy fighting for food and shelter, or running away from trainers or being used as practice dummy by cadets and medic trainees. He had relentless search for Naruto for six months, desperate to save Naruto from this Pre-Academy Training Regiment.
One day, Hotaru was eating rotten leftovers from the dumpster, just near the Cadet Dormitory. He learned that instead of trying to outsmart the cadets, choosing to do stupid decisions like hiding in plain sight such as hiding near Cadet Dormitories net a better result in evading their attention.
And then, he saw the seven years old Naruto, safe and sound.
Clean.
Healthy
Unscarred
Happy as he muttered about getting some pocket money to go to Ichiraku.
He followed him from behind as Naruto walked to Ichiraku Ramen and then,
Naruto complains about he's so lonely for not having friends. That everyone ignored him.
Hotaru broke right then and there. The whole time, his mental state as a child was only held by his Metaknowledge that Naruto is often abused in fanfics therefore he was saved by the sense of kinship that Naruto is experiencing the same torment as him.
But in reality, Naruto was safe and sound. Well taken care of. Of course, silly Hotaru.
Why would the Hokage let the child of the Yondaime Hokage, the scion of the Uzumaki clan and beholder of the power of Kyuubi experience the same torment and torture like noname orphans like him?
That would be stupid.
Silly Makoto Hotaru.
You actually think you are a special character. That you are going to be friends with Naruto and Sasuke and have a good fanfic adventure. That you can stop the tragedies that will come in canon.
Makoto Hotaru.
You are nothing more than a background character that don't even have an animation frame. You are literally a background asset to fill in the space.

Makoto Hotaru broke and realize how much of a joke he actually is.
The rest of the year went like a blur..its just the same thing. Evade rhe cadets. Don't let the medic trainee sees even a single scratch on you, so you must always dodge instead of tank. Dont bother trying to outsmart the ninja cadets. You have ordinary intelligence. You have better chance fooling them by acting stupid instead. Learn stealth to steal food. You only have one shot to steal, so make it count. Don't bother fight for a bed in the orphanage. Each time you did, you get smothered in your sleep and the only reason you're still alive was because for some reason your heart can restart it's beats after a few hours you have died, waking up to see you have tossed into the trash can when they thought you had actually died.
Everyday was a mindnumbing grind. Hotaru only reason to live was only sheer spite. He despised Konoha more than he desire to just die. He refuse to let Konoha win that easily. He cannot take revenge on Konoha as Naruto will always be stronger than him because of his MC privilege while little Hotaru is stuck with just his background character-tier potential.
The only thing Hotaru got going for him was just his cute girly face.
He had wondered sometimes. Why did they never touched his face? Even with Metaknowledge, Hotaru was still a naive child. He never suspects over why his face had always been spared when other kids was scarred one way or another.
At December, it was snowing. 3 older bullies from the orphanage had found Hotaru's hideout, beat him up and tied him. Then, they brought him to some old civilian that paid the bullies-now-juvenile human trafficker. The boys leaves with some good amount of money.
Hotaru had learned to be smart when it counts. His Metaknowledge helps his otherwise child mind to navigate through crisis. Hotaru had pretended to be compliant. He even acted extra girly and cheerful based on his memories of trap character s. The Old Bear was pleased, and he dressed Hotaru in girls clothes and for awhile, even though he was locked up in the mansion, Hotaru managed to stall the Old Bear for a few days with his entertaining act.
But eventually, the Old Bear wants his meal, and so Hotaru had to perform what he was bought for. So he pretends to want to give him a service that involves licking and sucking.
With nothing more he can do, he bite the Old Bear's manhood off, his teeth being the only sharp weapon he has. While the Old Bear writhe in pain over his castration through teeth, Hotaru had taken the keys and escaped the room. He then cut the gas line and escaped before the gas was lit by a candle a bit farther from the gas source and the mansion explodes and burn in fury.
Hotaru, lips and chin still red in blood found the boys drunk in a backalley.
In his haze of anger, he broke an empty soju bottle on the ground and stabbed the sharp shard of glass bottle to the neck of the drunken boys.
For a few minutes, it doesn't really register to him over what he did. Then, he vomited. Hotaru had done a lot of bad things to survive but he had never attacked anyone unprovoked, let alone killing anyone in cold blood. In a lapse of judgement, Hotaru had lost the only shred of humanity he had left. Even if these bullies are assholes... They're just 9 years old. Kids just like him. They're just as much of a victim of Konoha's ruthless system to filter orphans with potential to be shinobi. The Konoha Orphanage System is a factory that produce tested and proven Shinobi candidates from the inferior civilian genepool.
Wait a minute? Why should I feel bad?
I mean, I'm a background character. These kids are background characters too. So why should I feel bad for killling them? It's their fault for trying to sell me to a fucking pedo. They got it coming.

Ebisu sighed and wiped his sunglasses. Finally, the special potential candidate he had been tasked to observe and guide from the shadows for the past year had matured. Nara clan had recommend Ebisu to pay special attention to him but this Makoto Hotaru kid doesn't seem like much for the first six months he had observed him. Then, for some reason after that kid saw the fox brat, Makoto had changed. He had become ruthless and efficient. He might even be the next Mitarashi Anko!
The problem was, the kid just never seem to truly hate anyone. He has an uncanny ability to understand people's circumstances. He never used violence more than necessary. And he had even helped his bullies when they got injured.
He was such a nice and kind kid despite the ruthless and violent environment he was raised in that they need to control the situation. They pay off bullies so that they keep beating him despite being touched by his kindness. Sometimes his hideout was tipped to the cadets so that he had to run and hide or get beat up if he got captured.
But he just wont snap!
He wont break!
The Pre-Academy Committee is headed by the Nara clan. They judged that Makoto Hotaru has the potential to be another anomaly like Namikaze Minato. It's already embarrassing enough that the son of a fisherman somehow becomes a Hokage. They dont want another anomaly like Namikaze Minato with his dangerous ideas to be born again.
Thus, Ebisu was ordered to break Makoto Hotaru by any means necessary.
And Ebisu mission is a success. Civilian-born shinobi are meant to stay under the foot of the Clans and be an obedient and expendable killing machine.
Kindness? Joy? Dreams?
That's privileges reserved only for clans children.
Special potential or not, Makoto Hotaru should just stay as nothing more than one of the mass produced psychopaths in the Konoha war machine.
Ebisu smiles. Truly Konoha education system is the greatest. This is why Konoha is the strongest out of the Five Great Villages.

The Hokage has entered Hotaru's ward room.
Usually, even if Hotaru was in his depressive phase, the voice of the Hokage still made him react sometimes. Even if its just a bit of spike in killing intent which he immediately hides.
But now, he's like a corpse. He doesn't respond even to Hiruzen's presence.
This was because Hotaru had started to accept reality again.
It was a gradual process, ever since Naruto and Sasuke starts dragging him around to train. The moment he got annoyed enough to suggest actually playing instead of training, Naruto had smiled. All according to plan.
Back then, you need to annoy Hotaru to a certain extent to get him to stay in reality. Be it annoying clingy friends or petty children bullies being petty.
Hotaru had started to live in reality again, even if its in short spur of moments.
Over two years and a half, Hotaru had been healing. He started to interact with people on his own, even if its for business. Starting from the Hyuuga crisis, he had stopped being so aversive to training and actually prepare himself for more than just bare minimum requirements.
He was even more lively after Konami returns to Konoha with him.
Everyone but Hotaru had noticed that Hotaru doesn't escape to watch stories in his head anymore.
However, something changed when Hoshino Ai was found by Makoto Hotaru.
She wasn't anything special to him. If anything, he pities her back when he was just a story. Discovering a character from another anime being isekaied here had been a shock to his mental state. Makoto Hotaru had been maintaining somewhat of a mental stability by treating everything and everyone as a joke of a crack fic. A mental detachment and compartmentilazation that turned even worse because of his ability to directly manipulate his Mindscape. And for a long time, Hotaru was fine just treating everyone as nothing more than props with only some characters he involuntarily fond off due to the feelings of his Predecessor.
Hoshino Ai is a shock to his fragile worldview. It was made even worse as despite being an anime character, Hoshino Ai is also an Earthling.
As a former Earthling, even if Hotaru doesn't has any real memories of life on earth other than what he saw in entertainment medium, he felt obligated to help Ai, the only person he knows that feel the same dread and anxiety of living in a fictional world turned into reality.
And then, Ai was taken away from him by Neji.
Neji who has turned into a villain character now.
Neji who was pushed into that role because of his callous mistake. Because he treat everything as a joke crack fic, he never care about the consequences. If they got pissed off so much that they kill him, so be it. He wants to die anyway. He was so tired of this AU that made his Metaknowledge almost entirely useless..what use does he has to know every bit of canon plot if this damned AU never follow canon anyway?
Makoto Hotaru is nothing more than a Background Character. He is completely unneeded by The Plot. If he dies from the sheer amount of enemies he made through his antics, nothing of value will be loss.
Naruto and Sasuke will save the world as they're destined to be.
Stupid Hotaru.
Don't you know that you're not the only one that that will pay the price of your silly little suicide plan? Haven't you learned it from Hanabi's branding? Have you forgotten that lesson just because Hanabi had convinced you that Hotaru is at his strongest when he was being stupid?
I ruined so much characters so that they will eventually kill me.. I didn't think that they will hurt the people around me.
And the worst part, I ruined these characters thats supposed to be good and amazing people just for my own damnation.
And yet, someone else paid the price for it.
Makoto Hotaru doesn't care about what happens to him.
He was unable to not care about people he had opened up to.
That is Makoto Hotaru's greatest weakness.
And that is a weakness The Hokage is aware off.
"Genin 56A 1304, Makoto Hotaru. You will answer to me or Hyuuga Hanabi will pay for your disobedience. Remember, she is still a Branch Hyuuga. She is not as valuable as a Main Hyuuga.

Had Hiruzen not prepared himself, he would have buckled under the massive killing intent that Makoto Hotaru had generated.
Its like the night of Kyuubi Attack!! To think this child was hiding this much hatred in him!!? How can a child with chakra reserve that is barely Genin grade inflict this much concentrated and vast Killing Intent?!
The hospital shook and buckle under the weight of Makoto's wrath and hatred. Most of the patients, nurses and medical shinobi collapsed under the weight of the Killing Intent. Only the most senior Jounins was able to hold on their consciousness, even if they had fall to the floor, barely able to raise their head against the gravity-like force of Makoto's Killing Intent.
'Makoto Hotaru!!? He's not human!', that's the only thought Yamanaka Inoichi can conjure while desperately trying hold on his sanity.
The last thing he see before he went unconscious was...
The Color out of Space
The Killing Intent spread across the village. The villagers were not collapsing from the sheer weight of the epicenter of the KI, but the sheer magnitude of it still send them into panic. Riot erupted across the village as if everyone suddenly went mad, infected by Makoto's Wrath. Children cries uncontrollably. Animals runs like the the village is about to be smited by a god.
At the edge of the village, Kojima Konami with a bagpack on her back looks back to Konoha as she's about to leave, feeling the edge of the sphere of Makoto Hotaru's Killing Intent.
"It looks like the Abyss has finally gaze back to Konoha. What will Konoha do, now that they have awakened The Raiju?"
Konami smiles toward the epicenter of the KI.
"As I said, I will be returning to the Cental Plains, Hotaru. Whether you choose to finally accepts your destiny or decide to remain as zombie rotting on the inside is up to you."
Konami turns back and fled Konoha.
"I will be waiting, to see if you become boring or interesting."
Konohagakure will later brainwash most of the population of the 10 seconds event of Makoto Hotaru manifesting a Killing Intent field so vast and pure that it sent the whole Konoha into madness for 10 seconds. The true cause of the event was sealed as an EX-Rank National Secret. Only the Hokage, The Nara and Yamanaka Inoichi under an Oath Seal knows that on that night, Makoto Hotaru sent the whole Konohagakure into madness because he was so pissed that Satutobi Hiruzen had threaten him with Hanabi's life.
Dear Amaterasu. What will happen when Makoto learns to perform this voluntarily?
No one will be able to stop him.
Perhaps choosing to be Makoto's enemy was the greatest mistake in Hiruzen career.
"Oi, baboon.", Hotaru has finally rise from his bed. "You want my attention? You fucking got it."
The KI has receded, but cold fury still envelops Hotaru. The room had went dark as all the electrical appliances in the hospital had bursted into flames from the sheer electrical surge caused by the KI. Many patients will die tonight as the life support equipments had exploded in the surge, while most of the medical staffs were knocked unconscious.
Note to self, never, ever, piss off Makoto like that again.
"Makoto Hotaru." The Hokage stands firm, refusing to show his trembling. "You are now promoted to Chuunin, effective immediately. You will then be assigned to a Genin Squad tomorrow, as it is not possible right now. Tomorrow, you will serve your new team as Vice-Captain and travel to Snow Country to reinforce Squad Kakashi."
"Really? You know, can this wait? My singer got kidnapped by Jetstream Bitch Slave like a week ago, man. I was thinking to ask a leave to go get her back."
"Your singer is no concern for Konoha. I am done with your laziness and apathy. I am done playing the kind grandfather for you. I am done being lenient. It's time to grow up, Makoto Hotaru. You will rise to your true potential or I will kill the people who matters to you. Because we both know, you don't care if you die. The only way to make you move is to threathen your family."
Hiruzen projected his own KI as he gives his ultimatum, but of course, it has zero effect to Hotaru. Killing Intent doesn't work on someone like Hotaru that doesnt value his own life.
Hotaru just shrugs and gives him a flat stare.
"Before I die, I will fucking kill you, old baboon."
"Good.", the Hokage turns to leave. "At least you have a life goal now."

Over 100k of insanity memefest of a crack fic was building up to this moment. I did not have an outline for this fic other than eventually coming to this turning point. Its been a long ride these past two months writing this fic.
The child that was not loved by the village will eventually burn it down to feel it's warmth.
That's pretty much the premise I start this fic with, hiding it all behind the facade of stupid reference jokes and memes. Not that I hide it that well. I think I hinted it pretty obviously, like a tiger hiding on asphalt. Its pretty obvious this is how it will turn out.
Now, what does this means for SAANIN? Is this fic going to change its genre from silly crack to a serious revenge story of Hotaru hatred toward a ninja village abuse of child soldiers?
Wow, a military that uses child soldiers is the bad guys all along? No way~~~~
Welp, this fic wont really change its genre. Heck, I wasn't even sure if Hotaru will eventually betray Konoha, join Akatsuki and fight a tragic battle against his former friends. Its still up in the air.
This fic will still be an insane memefest crack fic. I'm not good at keeping up writing grimdark edgy story chaps after chaps anyway. Hotaru will still mindfuck everyone with his Outstupid Maneuvers and making a joke out of everything. Heck, in his mind, his first year after gaining Metaknowledge is nothing more than an edgy backstory concocted by a Writer he wasn't even sure was real. Whoever SI-OC Hotaru could have been before he went insane was gone, replaced by Crackfic Hotaru.
Sorry if this chapter turn off some of you. I'm a bit worried if some readers dropped this. Regardless, if you only want comedy from this fic and serious chaps like this turn you off, I understand. I don't know how people will take this.
