Chapter 7 First Time Feeling Sadness
After I heard the explosion go off, I ran out into the hall, and I saw Sylvanna also coming out of her room.
"Did you hear that too, Sylvanna", Aphmau asked her.
"I did", Sylvanna replied. "It sounded like an explosion!"
"I'm going to go check it out", Aphmau said, before rushing down the hall.
"Wait Aphmau", Sylvanna called out to her. "It may be dangerous! You should stay here!"
Aphmau was already too far away from Sylvanna to hear her warning. She ran out of the house and began looking around to see where the explosion came from. Then, Aaron suddenly rushed passed her, with Garroth following closely behind him.
"Garroth, what was that explosion", she asked, stopping him in his tracks.
"We don't know, but it came from the docks", he replied. He then started running in the direction of the docks, and Aphmau followed him.
When Garroth and I arrived at the docks, we saw that they had been completely blown up!
"What in the name of Irene happened here", Garroth asked, before walking up to Aaron. "Aaron, do you know…"
As Garroth was speaking, he suddenly stopped when he saw the expression on Aaron's face.
Even though his eyes were covered, I could still tell that Aaron had a look of horror on his face. I turned my head to see what he was looking at, and what I saw made my heart sink.
Paul was kneeing on the ground; holding Visher in his arms.
"Oh no", Garroth said with dread in his voice. He then rushed up to Paul, and kneeled down beside him. "Mr Paul?"
After hearing his name, Paul turned to look at Garroth; tears falling from his face.
"Visher", he chocked out. "He…he…he has a wife. He has a kid. They're waiting for him back home! How did this happen? Who would do this?"
When Aaron heard these words, he suddenly became angry. He then went closer to the explosion, and began sniffing around.
"I've got a sent", he exclaimed. He then turned around, and rushed off into the woods.
"Aaron, wait", Garroth called out to him. "We don't know who we're dealing with! You shouldn't go without backup!"
Aaron was already too far away from Garroth to hear him. He thought about what do for a moment. Then, his eyes landed on Aphmau, and he went up to her.
"I'm so sorry to ask this of you, Ms Aphmau", he started. "But could you please stay with Mr Paul and Mr Visher while I go and alert the other guards of this?"
"Oh…okay", Aphmau replied hesitantly.
"Thank you", Garroth said quickly. He then turned around, and rushed back into the village.
After Garroth left, I turned to look at Paul; who was still holding onto Visher tightly. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do, but I still wanted to help. So I went up to Paul, and I kneeled down next to him. I looked at Visher, and I could barely recognise him. Before I knew it, I was suddenly overcome with great sadness. I held tightly onto the cloak Visher gave me, and tears started falling from my eyes.
This was the first time in my new life that I ever felt sadness.
