Chapter 13; The Pokemon Trainers Start a Dragon Academy

A couple of weeks after Snoggletog, all of the baby dragons had grown up and took to the sky leaving Berk and finding their own homes, and that was a good thing. With the war over, a lot of dragons were now living on Berk, but problems started to arise. The dragons were either chasing the livestock, stealing food from the Vikings, battling with the Pokemon, causing structural damage to village buildings, and the worst of all, at 3:00 the dragons were relieving themselves in the plaza.

Now some were willing to take the good and the bad, but not one person. His name was Mildew. Mildew was a scrawny old man that lived alone with a sheep he called Fungus in the mountain range of the island, and he mostly farmed cabbages for a living. Now during a normal night, a Gronckle was sleeping on the house roof, and snoring. The snoring shocked the whole hut, and was able to knock down a few things, some were the axes that almost landed on Fungus. As Fungus hid under Mildew's bed, Mildew got up and went outside with Fungus. "Dragons. I should've known. Helps himself to my roof and my cabbage." Mildew said as he saw a few of his cabbage. But then Mildew turned around and saw that his whole field was eaten by the Gronckle's flock. "My whole field! Gone! That tears it, Fungus." Mildew said before grabbing his staff, his helmet, and Fungus before walking to the village.

The following day, the Dragon Riders were on the rock pillars, and after Hiccup, Toothless, Flare, and Knack joined everyone, Hiccup said to everyone. "Okay, guys. Best trick competition. Who's up first?"
"Me." Snotlout said as he was ready to go. Fishlegs then said to Snotlout. "Actually, I think it's–"

"Me." Snotlout said to Fishlegs. Astrid then said to Snotlout. "Sweet baby Thor in a thunderstorm, go!"

"Oh, don't worry, we'll go. And when we go, Hookfang, Hookblade, and I are gonna light the sky on fire!" Snotlout said before they took off, but Hookfang still didn't listen to Snotlout. So Hookfang took Snotlout threw the rock pillars with great speed, and Hookblade followed, and . Hookfang and Hookbalde then dived into the water and resurfaced close to the rock pillar. As Hookfang landed on the rock pillar with the others, he said to them. "I'm alive? I'm alive!"

"Lucky us." Eric said before Snotlout said. "It wasn't luck, but skill."

"It's my turn. Ready, Meatlug? Ready, Sparky?" Fishlegs said and they both were ready to go. Fishlegs then made Meatlug fly around then with Sparky barking like he was singing. Once Fishleg landed, Sparky stopped singing, and Fishlegs said. "Yes! New personal best."

"Ok, who's next?" Eric said and then Ruffnut said. "My turn."

"No, my turn." Tuffnut said, and then Hiccup said. "Guy's, same dragon." They then realized that, and they took off. But because they couldn't decide on which way to go and crashed into a rock. Barf and Belch then started to fly in a spiral. Once they stabilized, they shook their heads and that caused the twins and their Pokemon to fall off. They all screamed and fell to the ground, but Barf and Belch caught them. As they returned to the rock pillar, Ruffnut said to Tuffnut. "We almost died."

"Ugh, I know. Go again?" Tuffnut said and Ruffnut was cool with that idea. But they were stopped when Astrid said. "Hey, it's my turn." She then turned to Hiccup, and said. "You might want to take notes." Astrid then took off. Stormfly then flew close to the water, and used her tail to cut the water. Stormfly then did an upward spiral and flew close to the rock pillars. Then Spikeball jumped up and turned into a ball. Stormfly then hit Spikeball, causing him to ricochet off the rock pillars. Stormfly then flew fast in front of Spikeball, who returned to normal, and Astrid caught him. "Alright, Stormfly, Spikeball."

"Not bad." Eric said as Astrid landed back at the pillar. Once she landed, Snotlout said. "Yeah, but can you do it without the dragon and BattleMon?" Astrid then punched Snotlout's shoulder, and Eric said, before giving Tera to Hiccup. "Our turn." Honerstream then dived off the rock pillar and landed in the water. After a few moments, they burst out of the water, with Honerstream releasing a steam blast and Knight was using Water Gun. With they're two combined and made it look like a comet flying through the sky. They both stopped and then returned to the pillar.

As they bowed, and Tera returned to Eric, Hiccup said to Toothless, Flare, and Knack. "Well, looks like we got our work cut out for us. Ready guys?" Toothless and Knack then took off, and they dived full speed at the water. And just before they hit the water, they pulled up and the force of they're high speed cut the water. Then they started to weave around the rocks at high speed. Then they flew between two rock pillars that were connected by a land bridge. As Toothless and Knack flew under the bridge, Hiccup and Flare ran over it. Then they reconnected and flew high into the air, where Toothless and Flare shot fireballs into the air, creating fireworks. Everyone was impressed and agreed they had won.

Meanwhile, back on Berk, Stoick, along with Gobber, Sword Walker and Coal, were making sure their food supplies were fully stocked up. The main two Vikings helping them was a small Viking with a hook for his right arm named Mulch and his Pokemon Partner was a female Weepinbell called Bell. And with them was a very tall Viking with a bucket on his head and he also had a hook for a right hand, and his Pokemon Partner was a male Cramorant called Peck. "Stand the Elk up in the back. Fishing boats just came in with a big catch." Stoick said to everyone as Mildew finally arrived. "Stoick." Mildew said letting them know that he was there. Gobber then said to Stoick. "Ah, here's Mildew with the complaint of the day."

"You picked a bad time, Mildew. I'm in the middle of storing food. The freeze is coming." Stoick said to Mildew, and Mildew said to Stoick, just as Hiccup, Eric, Toothless, Honorstream, Flare, Knight, Knack, and Tera returned to Berk to see if Stoick needed some help. "It's the dragons again. Those demons are not fit to live among civilized men."

"Neither are you, Mildew. Why do you think we built your house so far outside of town?" Gobber said to Mildew, which annoyed Mildew. Mildew then said to them. "Oh, very well, make your jokes. Meanwhile, these dragons upend our village carts… Turn people's houses into piles of rubble! They even disturb an old man's rest! Can't you see these bags under me eyes?"

"He's right. He's hideous." Gobber said to Stoick. And while Gobber was joking, Stoick saw that people were taking Mildew's side, and so did Mildew. Mildew then said to everyone. "These are wild and unpredictable beasts. You need to put those dragons in cases. If you don't, they'll eat us out of house and home. And destroy the entire village." Because of what Mildew said, the people were starting to get restliest, and Hiccup, Flare, and Knack were worried for Toothless safety. So Hiccup walked up to Stoick and said to everyone. "They don't mean any harm, they're just dragons being dragons."

"Yeah, plus we'll learn how to get along. After all, did your people bond with the Poke…, I mean BattleMon, right away?" Eric said and that caused some people to think. Stoick then said to Mildew. "Look, Mildew, if there's a problem, I'll deal with it."

"Oh, there is a problem, Stoick. And I think I speak for everyone when I say, you better do something about it." Mildew said before he left and everyone started to get riled up again. That night at Stoick and Hiccup's hut, Stoick was talking with Gobber about ideas to deal with the dragons. As Gobber was carving a wooden duck, Stoick said to Gobber, as Hiccup, Toothless, Flare, and Knack were listening to the conversation. "We can't just let dragons run wild, like they own the place. Hey, we could put up signs."

"Signs? For dragons?"

"No, for the people."

"Signs? For Vikings? We're not big readers, Stoick."

"Then we'll build a huge net and stretch it around the plaza."

"Nets? You do know they breathe fire."

"I know very well they breathe fire, Gobber. Ah! I can't see any other way."

"No, Dad, wait. What if I deal with the dragons?" Hiccup said to Stoick and everyone turned to Hiccup. Stoick then said to Hiccup. "You?"

"Who else? If anyone can control them, I can. I'm the best man for the job."

"You're not a man yet, Hiccup."

"Not if you don't give me the chance to be."

"Fair enough. You'll have your chance starting tomorrow." Stoick said to Hiccup, and Hiccup was ready for the challenge.

The following day, Hiccup was with just Toothless, Flare, and Knack. "Okay, Gang. There's gonna be some changes around here." Hiccup said to them before they started to handle the dragons. But that was easier said than done. You see when Hiccup would clam on dragon down, another made an even bigger mess. And even with Toothless, Flare, and Knack helping, it was still too big of a task for them alone.

As for the other Riders, they were on a catapult and Snotlout said to everyone, as they were watching Hiccup, Toothless, Flare, and Knack try to handle the dragons. "What's he doing?"

"Uh, I think he's helping the dragon break stuff." Tuffnut said and Ruffnut thought that it was cool. Eric then said to them, as Hiccup put out a sheep that caught on fire from two dragons fighting. "No. He must be trying to get a handle on the dragons."

"I don't think it's going too well." Fishlegs said and then Astrid said. "He could really use our help."

"Yeah, but I would wait a few more minutes." Eric said as he pointed up, and they all saw a lot of dragons flying overhead. "And it's 3:00." Astrid said as the dragon started to relative themselves and one of them hit Hiccup on the head.

The following night, after Hiccup finally removed the smell of dragon from his head. He took a seat on his bed and said to Toothless, Flare, Knack. "Oh, everything hurts. Even this." Hiccup pointed to his prosthetic leg. "Hiccup?" Astrid said as she, along with Spikeball entered the hut. Hiccup got up and said to Toothless, Flare, and Knack. "Astrid? Perfect. I don't look too beat up, do I?" Toothless, Flare, and Knack just gave Hiccup weak smiles. "Oh, great. Dragon and BattleMon pity." Hiccup said as Astrid and Spikeball walked up to his room. Hiccup turned to Astrid and Spikeball and said. "Hey, Astrid. What a nice surprise."

"So, how was your day?"

"Uh, uneventful. Hung around the plaza. You know."

"Yeah, I do know. We saw you out there. It's hard to believe you're still standing." Astrid said before Hiccup fell to his bed. Hiccup then said to Astrid. "I'm gonna be seeing flaming sheep in my dreams for the next month."

"Hiccup!" Stoick said, causing Hiccup to spring out of bed. Stoick then climbed up to Hiccup's room and said. "Hiccup. What's going on out there? The plaza looks like a war zone."

"I know it looks bad." Hiccup said to Stoick before Astrid whispered to Hiccup. "Really bad."

"But this is only, uh, phase one of my master plan." Hiccup said to Stoick and Stoick said to Hiccup. "Oh. So you do have a plan."

"I do. Of course I do. It's very complex, with lots of drawings, several moving parts. Yeah, it's, uh, pretty wild."

"Uh-huh. Well, this better be real, because Mildew stirred up the whole island. And if you don't get those dragons under control, they'll be calling for their heads." Stoick said before he left. Toothless was worried, and Hiccup said to Toothless. "Don't worry, bud. Your head's not going anywhere."

"You do realize there are, like, a bazillion dragons out there, and only one of you. I hope you really do have a plan." Astrid said and then Hiccup said. "I do have a plan."

The following day, at the dragon arena, Hiccup had gathered all of the Riders, their Pokemon, and dragons there, and Eric said to Hiccup. "Ok, Hiccup we are here? So what is your plan to deal with the dragons?"

"We are going to train them. Here." Hiccup said before Ruffnut said. "That's your plan? Train dragons?"

"Here? Where we killed them?" Tuffnut said as all of the dragons, minus Toothless and Honorstream, were anxious. As Hiccup grabbed a basket of bread, he said to them. "Right. Because we don't do that anymore. That's why it's available."

"Actually, the dragons do seem a little nervous." Astrid said to Hiccup. Then Fishlegs said. "That's because they're very sensitive. Meatlug especially. She lost a cousin here. We try not to talk about it."

"Ok, but I have a question?" Eric said to Hiccup and Hiccup said. "What is it?"

"Did your father give us the arena? Or is this sneaking behind his back again?" Eric said and Hiccup didn't answer. That told Eric and Astrid that they were going behind Stoick's back. "Wait, so, we're going behind your father's back?" Astrid said to Hiccup and Hiccup said. "Yeah, so we shouldn't really talk about it." Hiccup then turned to the others and said. "Alright, everybody, here's the thing. The dragons are out of control. We want them to live in our world without destroying it, but they can't without our help. They've been blowing things up in the village. We've gotta do something about that."

"Got it. Help dragons blow things up. We can totally do that." Tuffnut said, as he and his sister missed the point. As Tuffnut and Ruffnut were thinking out ways to make the dragons mad, and were ignoring Hiccup. Eric said to Knight. "Knight, if you would?" Knight understood and used Water Gun on them, which caused them to stop. Hiccup then said to Knight. "Thank you Knight." Hiccup then turned to Tuffnut and Ruffnut and said. "Guys, this is serious. Mildew wants all of our dragons caged. And I don't know about you, but that's not okay with me."

"You're right. She's sorry." Tuffnut said to Hiccup before his sister punched him. Hiccup then said as he went over to the basket. "Okay, then. Next problem. The dragons are eating everything in sight." Hiccup then pulled out a bread loaf and gave it to Toothless. Hiccup then said to the others. "Now, when a dragon grabs something it's not supposed to have, you can get them to drop it by giving them a little scratch just below the chin." Hiccup then scratched Toothless chin and Toothless lost his grasp of the beard loaf. Hiccup took the bread loaf and then Snotlout said as he took the bread from Hiccup. "Eh, no, no, no, no. Maybe that works for you and Toothless, but Hookfang and I, we do things a little differently." Snotlout then threw the bread loaf to Hookfang, who caught it with his mouth. Snotlout then walked over to Hookfang and said. "When I want this big boy to do something, I just get right in his face and– DROP THAT RIGHT NOW! YOU HEAR ME?" Hookfang dropped the bread, but grabbed Snotlout with his mouth. Eric then said to Snotlout. "You ok, Sontlout?"
"See? He dropped it." Snotlout said before Tuffnut said with a few chuckles. "Should we help him?"

"Yeah, in a minute." Astrid said before Hiccup said to everyone. "All right, we've got a lot of training to do. But together, we can keep these dragons under control." Hiccup then gave everyone some bread to practice, and Hookblade used the chin scratch to free Snotlout from Hookfang.

That afternoon, the Riders were walking around the plaza, but there wasn't a dragon in sight. "Huh. No dragons." Fishlegs said and then Ruffnut said. "That was easy."

"Lunch?" Snotlout said and then Eric said. "No, something is wrong here."

"Yeah, this is weird. If the dragons aren't here, where are they?" Hiccup said before they heard an explosion and people screaming. "Something tells me that way." Astrid said before Eric said. "What was your first clue?"

They then ran to the shortage hut that was holding all of the food. There the storage hut was destroyed, and dragons were eating all of the food. And the worst of the worst, all of the Dragon Rider dragons were also eating all of the food too. Hiccup ran inside and found Stoick, who was furious. Stoick saw Hiccup and said. "They've eaten everything. We've got nothing left for the freeze."

"I warned you, Stoick. But did you listen to me? No. You put a bunch of teenagers in charge. Now look at what the dragons have done. Caging is too good for those beasts." Mildew said as he walked through the people, getting them riled up as he reached Stoick. Hiccup then said to Stoick. "Dad, I swear I can't fix this. We… We were just starting to–"

"Enough, Hiccup. How can I trust you to control all the dragons, when you couldn't even control your own?" Stoick said before pointing to Toothless eating a basket of fish. As Hiccup was a little disappointed with Toothless, Sword Walker found Mulch, Bucket, Bell, and Peck. Stoick then said to them as he gave them baskets. "Mulch, Bucket, Bell, and Peck, man the boats. We need another catch."

"It's too late, Stoick. It took us six months to catch all that fish." Mulch said to Stoick and Stoick said to them. "Don't tell me it's too late. We've got to try."

"Of course we do. Uh…" Mulch said before turning to Bucket and said. "Don't tell the Chief it's too late. You're always so negative."

"I don't know what it is with me." Bucket said before they left. As Stoick and Sword Walker left the ruin hut with more baskets, Hiccup said to Stoick. "Dad, please, you gotta listen to me. I know dragons better than–"

"Not now. I have a village to feed. The dragons have done enough damage. By tonight, I want every one of them caged. Understand?" Stoick said to Hiccup as he placed baskets on a cart. Mildew then walked up to them and said. "Bah! You can't just cage these dragons. You need to send them away now!" Everyone, but the Dragon Riders and Gobber, shouted in agreement. Stoick stopped them and said. "You're right, Mildew. We'll cage them tonight, and in the morning, Hiccup will send them off the island.I'm sorry, son."

That night, in the Great Fall, The Dragon Riders were both sad and mad that they were sending the dragons away. "I can't believe we have to send them away." Snotlout said and Eric said as he was petting Honorstream. "It's not fair."

"It's gonna be weird. I got used to Stormfly's face being the first thing I see every morning." Astrid said she saw a silhouette of Stormfly in her drink. Fishlegs then said. "Every night before I went to sleep, Meatlug would lick my feet. Who's gonna do that now?"

"I volunteer Tuffnut." Ruffnut said before Tuffnut said. "Whatever. What time should I be there?"

"Come on, guys, Let's get this over with." Astrid said and every Dragon Rider, minus Eric left. Eric then said to Hiccup. "Hiccup, tomorrow, I am leaving Berk."

"What? Why?"

"I need Honorstream's help to find my friends, if they are even here." Eric said before leaving to get ready for his journey. Toothless, Flair, and Knack were very sad about being separated, and Hiccup said to them. "Don't worry guys, I keep us all together."

"Keep us all together." Mildew said in a mocking tone as he walked up to them. Not one of them was happy to see Mildew, and Mildew said to Hiccup. "You know what your mistake was? Thinking dragons could be trained. A dragon's gonna do what a dragon's gonna do. It's their nature. And Nature always wins." Mildew left, and now everyone was even more mad. When Mildew left, a gust of wind blew inside, putting out the fire. Toothless then relit the fire, and that gave Hiccup an idea. "Come on guys." Hiccup said as they left the Great Hall.

At the arena, everyone had placed their dragons inside and were saying their goodbyes. "Feels like big, sharp teeth are tearing at this in my chest." Snotlout said before Astrid said to him. "That's what it feels like when your heart is breaking."

"I don't have a heart. I'm not a girl." Snotlout said before he flipped the switch and the gate started to close. Everyone was very sad, and then they heard Hiccup's voice saying. "Don't close it!" They all Hiccup flying in with Eric, Honorstream, and their Pokemon. As they all opened the gate, and the dragons walked out of the arena. Hiccup said to them. "We are not locking them up."

"What happened? Did you change your father's mind? Or are we going behind his back again?" Astrid said to Hiccup and Eric said. "Behind his back. But if Hiccup's plan works, then Stoick will change his mind."

"Hiccup? What is Eric talking about?" Astrid said to Hiccup and Hiccup said to her. "Listen, the dragons are gonna do what they're gonna do. It's their nature. We just need to learn how to use it."

The following day, out in the sea, Mulch, Bucket, Bell, and Peck were trying to catch fish, but the nets were coming up empty. That was until Eric, Honorstream, Knight, Snotlout, Hookfang, and Hookblade appeared, then dived into the water. With all of them working together, they were able to fill the net with even more fish then what they usually get.

At Mildew's farm, as Mildew was working in the fields when Hiccup, Toothless, Flare, Knack, Astrid, Stormfly, and Spikeball appeared. "Afternoon, Mildew!" Astrid said as Stromfly and Spikeball started to use their spikes to plow the fields. Hiccup then flew over the field, and along with his Pokemon were spreading cabbage seeds. "3:00. Time for the fertilizer." Hiccup said to Mildew, but he didn't understand what Hiccup was talking about. Then Fishlegs, Meatlug, and Sparky appeared with a few more dragons, and all of them then fertilized the field. "Smile, Mildew. We just saved you three months of work." Hiccup said as they left an angry Mildew.

And in the woods, the twins were scaring wild boars into the opening, and with Toothless and Honrostream's help. All of the wild boar went inside of another storage house. As Gobber closed the doors, everyone landed close to it and Astrid said to Hiccup. "How did you know that was gonna work?"
"Because they're dragons, and they're gonna do what dragons do. We just have to work with them and not against them. You know who we should actually be thanking…" Hiccup said, but stopped when Mildew appeared with Stoick and was saying. "There they are, Stoick. Those dragons don't look like they're in cages to me."
"No. This is not what I asked for." Stoick said and then Eric said. "But Stoick, we–"
"Be quiet. All of you, lock up your dragons in the arena and wait for me there." Stoick said before he left.

At the arena people, including Mildew, were waiting for Stoick. "What's Stoick gonna do to us?" Fishlegs said as everyone was getting really nervous. Then Stoick, Sword Walker, Gobber, and Coal appeared and walked over to them. "You all disobeyed my orders, and there will be consequences." Stoick said before Astrid said to Hiccup. "I told you we were gonna get in trouble. Ugh, you never listen."

"Dad, if anyone's going to get in trouble, it should be me." Hiccup said to Stoick and Stoick said to them. "No, you all had a hand in this."

"Oh, this is gonna be great, Fungus. It's about to get ugly." Mildew said as he was all too happy to see the Dragon Riders face punishment. Back in the arena, Stoick said to all of them. "You took over this place without asking. You released the dragons against my wishes. Things are going to change around here. That's why–"

"You're getting a Dragon Training Academy!" Gobber said and that surprised everyone. Stoick then said to Gobber. "Gobber! I wanted to tell them!"

"I'm sorry. You're right. Go ahead."

"Well, you told most of it."

"You can tell them the part about how proud you are of them."

"Gobber!" Stoick yelled, causing Gobber to be quiet. Stoick then turned to the Dragon Riders, and said. "Hiccup… Well, what Gobber said. You've all made me proud. This arena is for you." Sword Walker then let the dragons out and they reunited with their partners. As everyone was having a happy hug, Mildew left and was going to be a very annoying problem in the future. Stoick then said to Hiccup. "Now all you have to do is train them."

"Not a problem, Dad. After all, I've got all of them," Hiccup said, petting Toothless, Flare, and Knack. Then Eric said. "What about us?"

"And them too." Hiccup said and with this moment was the start of Berk's Dragon Academy. And with the birth of the Dragon Academy, Berk entered a new age of innovation.
