Upon hearing what Egon had said, the room fell with an awkward silence, thick enough to cut with a knife.
"I..uh apologize for asking such a question, and not knowing of your background Dr. Spengler," said Phillip Duncan, who was having trouble finding the right words.
"That's quite alright Mr. Duncan," said Egon, feeling slightly sorry for the mayor's assistant.
"Oh and Happy Hanukkah to you.
"Uh thank you and Merry Christmas."
"Thank you Dr. Spengler."
Phillip Duncan walked away, with a slight shade of red embarrassment on his face.
Feeling somewhat not at ease with the situation, Egon stepped outside away from the party.
Unbeknownst to him, Egon's fellow ghostbusters, plus Dana and Jeanie followed him outside.
"Egon, are you OK?" Jeanie asked, as she placed a hand on his shoulder.
I'm fine thank you," Egon replied.
"We're sorry about what happened," spoke Ray.
"It's quite alright."
"What surprises me is that I never knew you were Jewish," said Peter.
Ray and Winston just gave their fellow ghostbuster a look.
"Egon, not that it's any of my business, but didn't you grow up with any kids such as friends who celebrated Christmas?" asked Jeanie.
"Yes, the children at school, and the families of fellow scientists who worked with my father.
However, my parents never participated with any Christmas activities and events.
My father always said it was stuff and nonsense, that it wasn't necessary for us to learn about Christmas, as we didn't celebrate the holiday," Egon replied.
"So, you don't know anything about Christmas?" asked Dana.
"None what so ever."
"Meaning you know nothing at all about Christmas?" asked Winston.
"I'm afraid not," said Egon.
"Then it's time you learn about Christmas," said Peter.
"What are you saying Venkman?"
"We should teach you Egon Spengler, about Christmas."
"Venkman, while you may think we're doing a service by teaching me about Christmas, we have more important agendas to take care of."
"Come on Egon, think of this as a learning experience," Ray suggested.
"Ray, Peter, it does sound like a great idea to you, but Egon does have a point.
We have cases to take care of, I mean we're getting a rather higher than average assignments," Winston pointed out.
"I never thought I would say this, but I'm agreeing with Peter and Ray," said Jeanie.
"Peter, if Egon doesn't want to do this, he doesn't have to," said Dana.
"How do you feel Egon?"
After a short time of thinking, Egon replied, "I guess I can give it a try."
"Great!
We can start lessons tomorrow," spoke Peter.
Jeanie gave Egon a hug and said, "Oh Egon, we're so happy you decided to learn about Christmas."
"The feeling is mutual.
But I have a feeling I'm going to regret it," said Egon.
The next day, the four ghostbusters gathered in Egon's lab to start is lessons on the holly jolly season.
Egon had on a Santa hat, that matched the red and green sweater that was covering his lab coat, while, Peter, Ray and Winston were the "teachers" in this course of learning.
"Ok now Spengler, finish this sentence.
T'was the night before Christmas, and all through the house.
Not a creature was stirring, not even a.." said Peter.
"A mouse," Egon answered.
"Correct.
Now, name at least three of Santa's reindeer."
"Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixon, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blizten."
Bonus points for naming all eight reindeer.
Now, who makes the toys for Santa?"
Egon took a deep breath, let out a sigh and replied, "It's the elves."
"Great going.
Just then, Jeanie entered the lab, carrying several mugs on a tray.
"Thought you guys could use a break," she said placing the tray on a table.
"Thanks Jeanie," said Winston, helping himself to a mug.
"We barely scratch the surface," spoke Peter.
"Come on Peter, we can take a quick coffee break," said Ray.
"Actually, it's a popular winter time drink.
Hot chocolate," said Jeanie.
"Mmmm delicious.
Makes me think of my childhood spending Christmas with my family, when after we go skating and sledding, my mom would always have mugs of cocoa waiting for us when we walked through the door."
My grandma used make that or we had cider that our neighbor would make and gave us the leftovers," said Winston.
"This is good cocoa Jeanie, but what would make it better would be if there were some marshmallows in it, like how my mom used to make," said Peter.
"I wouldn't mess up what's already perfect Venkman," said Egon.
"Thank you, Egon.
I know a person with a sweet tooth like yours would enjoy it," said Jeanie with a smile on her face.
"Well, about we try to make some holiday memories," said Peter.
"I'm afraid to know what exactly you have in mind," said Egon.
"You'll see."
A short time later, the four ghostbusters and Jeanie were down at Rockerfeller Center, ice skating.
Actually, Jeanie, Ray, Peter and Winston were ice skating, while Egon watched.
"Hey Spengler, I don't call what you're doing making holiday memories, said Peter, as he skated to his side.
"Venkman, as I told you before we came here that I can not skate," Egon informed him.
"Yes, but you did the skates on."
Egon let out a sigh and said, "I suppose I have no choice."
He got up from the bench and headed onto the frozen pond.
It took a bit of a struggle, but Egon joined the rest of the team on the ice, while gripping the pond's rail.
Jeanie approached him to give support.
"See, you're getting it.
Just take your time," she said.
Jeanie decided to skate along side Egon, by gripping her hand onto his arm, smiling.
Surprisingly, he didn't flinch, but rather gave a cordial nod.
Suddenly, a bright blue beam of light flashed pass by them.
"What in the world?" said Egon.
"Let's check it out and see if we can catch it," said Ray.
"But I was going to master a figure eight," said Peter.
"Will you come on," said Winston, dragging his fellow ghostbuster off the ice.
Luckily, the team had brought their equipment with them, so they would be able to capture whatever the blue beam of light was.
However, trying to catch a ghost of paranormal object while on ice-skates may it quite impossible.
Nearly bumping into other skaters, not to mention handling the weight of the proton packs on ice, as they never attempted the task before.
The blue light, which turned out to be a full bodied ghost, began to cause chaos among the visitors.
The ghoul began to grab ornaments off the massive tree that stood tall in front of the rink and began to throw them.
Skaters began screaming and trying to getaway.
"Man, we gotta do something before somebody gets hurt," said Winston.
"Peter, you and Egon try to center the ghost, while Winston and I get the skaters off the ice," said Ray.
So as Ray and Winston, with help from Jeanie, lead the visitors off the ice for safety, Egon and Peter fired up their proton wands and aimed them for the ghost.
Once everyone was safe off the rink, Ray and Winston joined Peter and Egon into capturing the ghost.
However, the ghost had other plans.
It seemed the ghoul lost interest in throwing objects at the team and took off laughing.
"Grab him!" shouted Ray, as he and the rest of the team took after the fully-bodied spirit.
