Chapter 28: Undefeatable PT3

Kai clenched his fists, feeling the poison in his veins. Katy prepared herself as well. Electricity exploded from the both of them before they rushed at each other. They both had become like bolts of lightning, zigzagging before finally meeting with their fists pulled, ready to strike.

Both punches from both sides hit their target- Katy's fist dug onto Kai's cheek, and Kai's punch slammed into Katy's face. Both fighters recoiled from their attacks, recovered, then started wailing on each other. Kai landed a devastating gut punch, Katy countered with a back-handed punch to his cheek. Kai's body twirled in response to the devastating attack, and Katy lunged with both arms, aiming to grab the trainer. Kai managed to stop his body from spinning, grab Katy's arms by her wrists and glared furiously at the Gym leader.

"THUNDER!" The both of them shouted at the same time.

A lightning bolt fell from the sky and struck them both at the same time, and the both of them glared angrily as the thunder course through their bodies. Ignoring the pain the best he could, Kai pulled Katy toward him as he fell back. He placed his foot on his opponent's stomach as he did this and used the momentum of his kick to throw Katy over him and high into the air. Kai flipped onto his feet, spun around, and saw Katy recover in midair, using her new butterfly wings.

Katy raised her arm and lightning fell from the sky and onto her open palm. She then thrust that open palm at Kai, unleashing a torrent of Electrowebs. Kai started move, a trail of pink light followed him as he did, for he had used the move Agility to increase his speed. As he ran, zigzagging to dodge the barrage of Electrowebs, Kai leapt into the air, aiming his hand at his enemy.

"Charge Beam!" A beam of electricity flew at Katy, destroying her electrowebs and closing the distance quickly- Katy yelped in surprise before blocking the attack by crossing her arms.

Kai grit his teeth as he kept the beam going. The poison continued to wear him down little by little, and his attack began to weaken along with him. Katy grinned and uncrossed her arms, extinguishing the beam that was fading away. Kai's arms lowered in exhaustion as Katy closed the distance in a blink of an eye. Katy started beating Kai down, throwing merciless punch after merciless punch. Kai could do nothing but take it.

Katy threw a final punch that sent Kai into the ground. Kai's body landed with a thud- his arms and legs were spread out as he watched his opponent helplessly.

"It's been fun, but it's time to end this." She said, aiming her hand at the sky. More thunder flew down from the sky and rained down as Katy's body began to turn yellow.

"She-She's charging..!" Nemona cried.

"This is bad..!" Arven cried.

Aeon winced in worry. Tinkatuff covered her eyes. Geeta just watched Kai with a serious expression, saying and thinking nothing as she crossed her arms.

Kai gritted his teeth, looking up at the sky as Katy continued to charge. Everything around the boy went dark as he closed his eyes.

"No..!" Kai cried. "I got so close..! Why does it have to end like this..!?"

'Are you seriously giving up right now..!?'

Kai heard his true self cry out in his mind, and he opened his eyes. His true, yellow-eyed self stood over him.

'Why are you giving up!?' That other him cried. 'It's not over until you win!' His other self reached down to help him up. Kai reached out as well- and the moment their hands touched one another, Kai's vision returned to reality. Kai wasn't reaching out for anything, and was screaming at the top of his lungs as he fought the poison in his body and stood up.

"Here it comes..!" Katy cried, clasping her hands together before slowly separating them, revealing a orb of electricity that contained all of the lightning she charged up. She raised the orb above her head, and the orb tripled in size. "DISCHARGE!" She cried, throwing the orb at Kai.

"Pawmo, give me the strength to take...!" Kai clenched his fist as electricity flowed through his gauntlet. "WHAT'S MIIIIIIIINE!" Kai shot his arm at the massive orb coming his way, and out of it came an incredibly strong charge beam.

Both attacks clashed in mid air- and thunder hammered the entire area. Kai could barely hang on, as the poison crept through his body, his feet dragged against the floor.

Katy watched on as she took a deep breath through her nose. Her taser-shaped gauntlets began to shine white…Because Charjabug was evolving yet again.

One of Katy's gauntlets disappeared, and the gauntlet on her right hand took the shape of a Vikavolt's shell. A saber-like electric sword erected between the shell's jaws.

"Huh." Katy said, "Charjabug must have evolved because of being in an electric area for so long. It's fortunate for me." Katy raised her new arm-sword and aimed it at the ball of lightning she threw. "It's all over now. Better luck next time!"

"NO..!" Kai cried.

The sword that erected itself between Vikavolt's jaw flew like a projectile toward the orb of electricity- and quadrupled in size- acting like a hammer to a nail to threaten to crush Kai.

The weight of the attack completely shattered Kai's charge beam like glass, and charged right into Kai, who had to use both of his hands to keep the ball of electricity away from him.

It's over..! I can't win..!' Kai thought.

Everything went black around the boy once again.

'You and Pawmo can do this..! You said it yourself, remember?!' Kai turned his head, seeing his true self appear beside him yet again. 'You said it yourself," His true self said. "no matter what happens, no matter what..!'

Kai's eyes widened as he turned his head back to the orb. "I..! AM..!"

Geeta, who was watching calmly, raised her eyebrows and uncrossed her arms.

She smiled. "Do it, Kai." She said.

Kai's eyes began to shine blue for an instant. Just like Geeta's would, when she entered 'Flow.'

"I AM..!" Kai and his true self spoke at the same time. "UN...DEFEATABLE!"

Kai released a Charge beam yet again, and this time, it was strong enough to push the attack back. Kai roared at the very top of his lungs.

Katy's eyes widened in surprise.

"Oh no! It's too big..!" She cried. "I can't dodge it..!"

Katy was caught by the attack and was carried high into the sky by the ball.

The beam from Kai's gauntlet faded away... And just before the explosion rang out, Kai turned around, pulled his phone out, And took a picture of himself grinning as the explosion behind him erupted.

After taking the picture, Kai fell onto his back, breathing heavily from exhaustion. The gauntlets he wore shattered like glass before turning into a white orb that took the shape of Pawmo, who lay beside him, breathing heavily just like his trainer.

Kai did a thumbs up to his Pawmo, and Pawmo, with his little fingers, did the same back. Kai then began to laugh.

"Hm. Looks like he did it," Geeta said. "He's won."

Nemona gasped very loudly.

"KAI!" She roared. "YOU DI…"

Kai began to close his eyes as a loud, high pitched humming noise rang in his ears.

Before he knew it, Kai had passed out.

Around Kai was nothing but darkness. The boy lay on his back with his eyes closed.

"I can't believe it. It actually happened." Kai's true self's voice came to him as the Kai who lay opened his eyes.

"I won," Both he and his true self spoke at the same time.

The yellow-eyed Kai crouched down in front of his unconscious self. "Do you know what my Dream is?"

"What?"

"My dream... is for you to accept me. And when that happens, you'll stop seeing me as some... shadow, some...thing that you have to push away or block out of embarrassment. We'll truly be the same person- and be our own person. Not just some...shell. It's your dream, too. You know how I know? It's because I'm you. And you're me."

"Yeah... I guess you're right. In the end... there's no use hiding it... any longer." The Kai who lay down reached out with one hand at his other self. And the yellow-eyed Kai did the same.

The moment their hands touched one another, their bodies shined blue as they began to merge with one another.

Kai awoke with a start. He noticed immediately that he was in a hospital bed and turned to his left. Beside him sat Geeta.

"Congratulations on your victory," Geeta said, standing up. "You were out the whole day. I'm your last visitor."

"Wait, really?" Kai turned his head to his right and saw the window. It was nighttime. Oh jeez..." He moaned.

"How does it feel?" Geeta said. "To be able to tap into Flow?"

"I tapped into Flow?"

Geeta nodded. "For an instant, yes. While it wasn't as powerful as my own, you tapped into it on your own. And I think I know the answer as to why."

"Why?"

"Because you managed to put yourself on your own side."

"What..?" Kai said.

Geeta sighed. "During my journey to become stronger, I realized the self-contempt I had for myself, and fought against myself for the longest time. It made everything in my life so much more difficult. But... once I managed to see that I was actually much better than I thought I was... And learned to be on my own side rather than against myself when it came to attaining goals... I learned 'Flow.'" Geeta smiled. "Does this sound familiar?"

"Wow..." Kai said.

"Flow only truly activates when your entire mind is clear, and you are on your own side. It allows you to move with instinct, without thought, and increases your ability to fight. The greater your bond with yourself, the stronger your 'Flow' is. cherish that ability that you have. You've earned it."

"Wait, then... does that mean your bond with yourself is stronger than mine?"

Geeta shook her head.

"You shouldn't think of this as a race to become 'more self-loving' than me. Everyone has their own journey. I've had mine, and you have yours. Focus on your path, my path has, and should have nothing to do with yours. It can inspire you, but it's something only you yourself can resolve." Geeta stood up and walked toward the exit of the hospital room.

"The power of having yourself as a friend..." Geeta said, "is more than enough for you to stand up to anything in this world. And just like any friendship, it can have its own hardships. You will run into moments where you decide that you don't like yourself all over again. But that's okay. Remember that it doesn't mean that you're going 'backwards' on your journey. It means that you have to resolve those feelings, just like any other friendship."

"Uh.. ..?" Kai said.

"Yes?"

"Thank you."

Geeta smiled and turned toward the exit. "No need to thank me. I'm just passing down what I've learned to you. I'll be leaving now. The next time we meet, it'll be when you and I fight for your final test. I'll be looking forward to it." Geeta left the room.

Kai raised a hand and placed it on his heart and sighed.

Suddenly, the front door of the hospital room opened again.

The one who had opened it... was Aeon.
