"So this is it?" Ash asked. "The threshold out of central Unova, the one way to get from Nimbasa to Driftveil, the object thats been standing in our path this whole time?"
"Ash, it's a drawbridge, get over yourself." Rosa commented.
"I will not! This thing is huge!" Ash exclaimed.
"Some also call it the Charizard Bridge." Elliot remarked.
"Cool." Ash said with a smile.
"Yeah, but even with the drawbridge down, there's no way anyone's getting across just yet." A man on a motorcycle said.
"What and you plan on stopping us?" Ash asked, grabbing a Pokeball.
"A battle, I can get behind that." The man said. "Names Charles, and over in Driftveil I'm pretty known, who are you?"
"I'm Ash from Pallet Town." Ash said.
"Well then Ash, how's about a triple battle." Charles said.
"Elliot, Rosa, what's a triple battle?" Ash asked.
"It's when you send three Pokemon out to battle at once." Rosa commented.
"Alright then, sounds good to me." Ash said.
"Good to hear. Now meet your opponents, Tirtouga, Sigilyph, Archen, come out!" Charles exclaimed.
"Servine, Pikachu, Riolu, let's go!" Ash exclaimed.
"Think Ash is regretting sending Braviary to Professor Junipers?" Rosa asked.
"I'm sure he'll do fine." Elliot commented.
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt! Servine use Leaf Tornado! Riolu use Rock Slide!"
"Tirtouga use Aqua Jet! Sigilyph use Psybeam! Archen use Pluck!"
Servine spun around, sending a flurry of leaves around Tirtouga, trapping them as Riolu was struck by Archen, and Pikachu and Sigilyph traded blows.
"Pikachu we'll need a power up use Charge Beam! Riolu use Blaze Kick! Servine use Energy Ball!"
"Tirtouga, Archen use Ancient Power! Sigilyph use Air Cutter!"
Both rock types sent out their attacks, heading at Pikachu as he fired his own attack straight at Sigilyph, while Riolu struck Archen and Servine knocked out Tirtouga. The round finishing with RIolu being struck by Sigilyph's attack, knocking him out as well.
"Riolu return!" Ash called out.
"Tirtouga you did great, come on back." Charles said. "Now Archen use Pluck! Sigilyph use Air Cutter!"
"Pikachu use Charge Beam! Servine use Aqua Tail!"
Servine struck Archen back as he was struck by their beak and then from Sigilyph's attack, overwhelming the grass type, as Pikachu sent out a beam in an attempt to distract the psychic type.
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt! Servine use Leaf Tornado!"
"Archen use Pluck! Sigilyph use Air Cutter!"
Sigilyph spun around Servine in the opposite direction of his attack, canceling it out and lifting the grass type into the air, leaving him open to being struck by Archen's beak, knocking them out. As a powered up bolt of electricity shot through both of the opposing flying types, ending the match.
"Alright, Ash won, now can we go across the bridge." Rosa said impatiently.
"No can do, the bridge still can't be crossed." Charles said.
"But Ash won, you can't keep us here still!" Rosa said.
"He's not, something is stopping people from crossing, isn't there." Ash said.
"A flock of Ducklett have taken roost on the bridge and aren't letting anyone past them." Charles admitted. "The battle was certainly fun however."
"Mind if we see if we can do anything?" Elliot asked.
"Any ideas?" Ash asked.
"Of course, I think your newest captures will be able to safely let us pass through." Elliot said.
"Larvesta and Minccino?" Rosa said in surprise. "Okay, I guess there's no reason not to at least try."
"Great, come on, let's go." Elliot said.
Near the center of the bridge
"That is a lot of Ducklett." Ash said, seeing all the small blue birds. "At least I think so."
"Yeah, those are Ducklett, so what is your idea Elliot?" Rosa asked.
"Minccino's Attract should take out roughly half of them, and what's left should be able to be held by Larvesta's String Shot." Elliot theorized.
"But won't that leave them stuck?" Ash asked.
"Not for long, each bug types string shot differs based on their typings. So for Larvesta, even as sturdy as it is, a water and flying type should be able to remove it within an hour or so." Elliot calculated.
"So are you sure this will work?" Rosa asked.
"Mostly, probably, if not, we run." Elliot admitted.
"Alright, I say we need to get their attention! Pikachu use Thunderbolt!" Ash said, pointing straight up.
"PiKaChu!" Pikachu exclaimed, turning all the Ducklett towards them.
"This better work. Minccino use Attract!" Rosa said.
Minccino leapt into the air with a spin and a wink sending a flurry of hearts out at the Ducklett, causing half of them to go into a dazed like state.
"You know I greatly underestimated just how many Ducklett there would be." Elliot admitted.
"Larvesta use String Shot!" Ash called out. "Rosa does Herdier still know that roar?"
"Yeah, why?" Rosa asked.
"Now's the time, it should scare them off." Ash said. "Pikachu scare them with a Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu sent a bolt of lightning through the flock of Ducklett, doing little to dissuade them.
"Herdier come on out and use Roar!" Rosa exclaimed.
Herdier hopped out letting out a lout and long howl, causing most of the remaining Ducklett to fly off.
"Run through the rest?" Ash asked, returning Larvesta with ease.
"Sounds good." Rosa said, returning her Pokemon as well.
The trio quickly ran through the remaining flock, trying to avoid unnecessary damage from the wings and beaks.
"Pi!" Pikachu said angrily at the pecking.
"Don't Pikachu, there's too many of them even for you!" Ash said.
One sprint later
"Everyone alright?" Elliot asked.
"That was your, WORST PLAN EVER!" Rosa argued.
"And yet you chose to continue with us." Ash said with a smirk.
"You two are idiots." Rosa put bluntly.
"Maybe, but we're your idiots." Ash said with a smirk.
"What in the distortion?" Elliot asked noticing a mass of blue and white feathers heading towards them.
"Maybe it's an evolution. We've got this Pikachu use Thunderbolt!" Ash called out.
The mass shook, jumped, and squirmed as the feathers flew off, showing it was Hugh with a bit of Larvesta's silk on him.
"WHAT WAS THAT FOR! FIRST YOU DITCH ME, THEN YOU ATTACK ME!!" Hugh yelled.
"We honestly did not even know you were on the bridge with us." Ash admitted.
"Well I was, and you can pay me back, right now." Hugh said, pulling some final feathers off of him, before holding up a Pokeball.
"Seriously, are we ever going to make it to Driftveil at this rate?" Rosa asked.
