"So this is Chargestone Cave?" Rosa said in confusion. "It doesn't look all that charged to me."
"Pikachu are you okay?" Ash asked, noticing the static around the electric type.
"Pi Ka!" Pikachu cried out, clearly struggling.
"Alright just hold on, let's find a safe place for you to let loose." Ash said cautiously.
"What's going on is Pikachu okay?" Rosa asked, reaching out to the electric type.
"Don't!" Ash said, shaking Rosa's hand away. "I've seen this a few times before, Pikachu is sick and won't recognize most of us."
"What, like he's still effected by those spores?" Rosa asked. "Also you didn't have to smack me!"
"Not exactly, and sorry. When electric types build up too much electricity they can gen sick and go into a rage." Ash pointed out. "Normally it's from not battling, but a surge of power through them can do it as well."
"And with how much electricity is around here, it's no wonder Pikachu is already feeling the effects." Elliot realized. "I bet Porygon2 would struggle here as well."
"Yeah, seems anything electrical is acting up." Ash said, noticing even the sparks generating from his hands. "But I need to focus on getting Pikachu better before we keep going."
"Okay, but then I have questions about your hands." Rosa replied.
"As do I." Elliot added.
A bit of searching later
"Alright, those rocks look like they can take it. Pikachu use Thunderbolt!" Ash called out.
"Pi! Ka! CHUUUUUU!" Pikachu exclaimed sending a massive bolt of electricity into the groups of rocks causing them all to lift into the air.
"That. Was, what was that?" Elliot asked stunned.
"I told you it was built up electricity." Ash said.
"How do you know about that?" Rosa asked.
"I encountered the problem for the first time when Pikachu and I first came to the Hoenn region, it takes a lot of electricity and makes Pikachu more or less sick from all the energy." Ash said, picking up the electric type. "He'll be drained for a bit, but I'm guessing based on the electricity in this place it won't be for long."
"And your hands?" Elliot asked.
"Have you guys ever heard of a force called aura?" Ash asked.
"Yeah, that's what Riolu and Lucario harness right?" Rosa asked.
"Yes, but certain humans can also harness their aura." Ash replied. "After my time in Hoenn, Pikachu and I went and journeyed back through Kanto taking on a newly formed Battle Frontier, during our journey that time around we ended up meeting a Lucario who taught me a bit about aura and that I had a strong and harnessable one."
"So those sparks on your hands?" Elliot questioned. "That's how you harness your aura?"
"Apparently, I don't really get it myself, but ever since coming here to Unova I've been able to start accessing this ability bit by bit." Ash admitted. "I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of it though."
"So you just have portable electrical sources now?" Rosa asked.
"I doubt it, it feels more like static electricity. Like there's enough to shock but not enough to jump start." Ash admitted.
"Incredible, think of the applications that kind of power could be used in." Elliot commented.
"Yes, yes incredible, but I still have no idea how much I can actually do or what my limit is on this power." Ash admitted. "Hmm, I wonder."
"What is it?" Rosa asked.
"Well those floating stones are supercharged right?" Ash asked.
"Yeah, rocks like that are all over Chargestone Cave, we even recreated it back at Blueberry Academy." Elliot responded.
"Well, I wonder if I did this." Ash said, pushing the stone with his charged hands as it floated out of the way. "Alright, I think we have a way forward through this cave now."
"Okay, as cool as it is that these are moved, did you say you recreated a cave at a school?" Rosa asked.
"Well I didn't, and it's technically in the terrarium." Elliot said.
"You do know that answers none of that question." Ash pointed out.
"The terrarium, it was designed so trainers at the school could practice in all sorts of environments, one of them included what we call the Chargestone Cavern, and they mined some of the stones from here and moved them there to recreate the electromagnetic field from this cave." Elliot explained.
"Okay, I think I get it now." Ash said.
"Really, you do?" Rosa asked.
"Enough for the time being at least." Ash responded. "For now we just need to focus on getting through this cave, right?"
"Exactly, and on the other side we should be able to face your next gym battle." Elliot said.
"And one step closer to the Unova League! Let's go!" Ash said, racing off.
