Authors Note
I know that the actual Vertress Conference in the anime didn't have mid battle intermissions, but doing that allowed me to separate this into two chapters, not only lightening the stress of getting it out, but allowing me to focus on more than just the battle without making the chapter extremely long as a result. Anyways, back to the story.
"Welcome back everyone. As he is in the lead, Dino will send out a Pokemon first." Don George said.
"Come on out Sawsbuck!" Dino exclaimed.
"Darmanitan I choose you!" Ash called out.
"Sawsbuck use Bounce!"
"Darmanitan use Belly Drum!"
"Is Ash insane, he's already loosing!" Rosa exclaimed.
"Not as insane as you'd think." Georgia said. "As long as Darmanitan can get in a few hits, she could turn around this match easily."
"Now Darmanitan get out of there with Rollout!"
Darmanitan curled into a ball and rushed out of the way of the crashing Sawsbuck.
"Sawsbuck use Jump Kick!"
Darmanitan continued rolling around, as Sawsbuck went up into the air again, crashing down and missing Darmanitan once more, resulting in visible pain shooting up the bucks legs.
"How is Darmanitan so fast?" Rosa asked in shock.
"Its the power of Belly Drum and Rollout." Elliot realized. "Darmanitan is already near her max strength, but the longer rollout continues the stronger it gets."
"Meaning that since she's already so powered up, the only way for Rollout to be stronger, is to hit faster." Stephan said in shock as Darmanitan slammed into Sawsbuck sending the grass type flying back.
"Sawsbuck use Horn Leech!"
Sawsbuck got back on their hooves, charging at Darmanitan, lifting the rolling fire type and throwing them high into the air.
"Darmanitan use Hammer Arm!" Ash called out.
Darmanitan uncurled, high above the stadium before rocketing back down, slamming her two fists on the ground of the arena, sending out a shockwave throwing Sawsbuck off other feet in defeat.
"Sawsbuck is no longer able to continue battling!" Don George declared.
"Not that I'm complaining, but was that even a legal move?" Rosa asked.
"League rules say that any Pokemon that steps outside of the arena during the match is disqualified, it never said how high the arena was!" Georgia exclaimed.
"Sawsbuck return! Go Cofagrigus!" Dino called out. "Use Shadow Ball!"
"Darmanitan use Flare Blitz!"
Darmanitan rushed across the arena, her hands digging up the ground of the arena beneath her, bashing through the Shadow Ball before slamming into Cofagrigus, sending the coffin Pokemon backwards before collapsing.
"Darmanitan is unable to battle, the winner is Cofagrigus." Don George declared.
"And with that Cofagrigus has taken out half of Ash's team." Rosa said with a sigh.
"Don't count it out, Cofagrigus are known for being very bulky." Elliot commented.
"Darmanitan return, come on out Serperior!" Ash called out. "Use Leaf Storm!"
"Now we're talking!" Rosa exclaimed.
"Cofagrigus use Energy Ball!"
"Serperior use your own Energy Ball!"
The two energy balls launched at each other, Serperior's notably larger as it sent Cofagrigus's energy ball flying, his own striking the ghost type.
"Serperior use another Leaf Storm!"
Serperior flicked his tail, sending a storm of leaves around Cofagrigus, sending them into the air before it dropped to the ground with a thud, their four arms retracting back into the coffin.
"Cofagrigus is no longer able to battle, the winner is Serperior!" Don George declared.
"Cofagrigus return." Dino said. "Now come out Galvantula!"
"Serperior switch out! Come on out Duosion!" Ash called out, switching his Pokemon as well.
"Galvantula use Signal Beam!"
"Duosion use Rain Dance!"
Rain obscured the battlefield from view, allowing Duosion to dodge the bug type attack.
"Duosion use Future Sight!"
"Galvantula use Electro Web!"
Galvantula threw a web out at Duosion, trapping the psychic type as he foresaw an attack.
"Galvantula use Signal Beam!"
"Duosion, Telekinesis!"
Duosion glowed, lifting himself, the web, and Galvantula into the air, causing the attack to miss greatly.
"Now use Psychic!"
"Use Thunder!"
Duosion flew about the lifted Pokemon, sending off a psychic attack as even Galvantula's thunder missed him.
"Duosion use Psychic!"
"Galvantula use Signal Beam!"
Duosion's psychic attack sent a blast destroying the signal beam and striking Galvantula from the front at the same time as the Future Sight attack hit from behind, as the Telekinesis began to wear off.
"Duosion use Psychic!"
"Galvantula use Sucker Punch!"
Galvantula landed on his legs, scuttling towards Duosion only to be blasted back once more by the psychic blast.
"Galvantula is unable to battle, the winner is Duosion!" Don George declared.
"Alright, rematch time." Ash said, grabbing Serperior's Pokeball.
"Druddigon come on out!" Dino called out.
"Duosion switch back!" Ash said, sending out Serperior in their place.
"Does anyone want to fill me in on why Ash keeps switching, if he was just going to use Serperior here wouldn't it have made more sense for him to keep them in to stack the Leaf Storm boosts?" Georgia asked.
"It's a rematch." Elliot explained. "Back when Ash first fought Dino, it was Snivy vs Druddigon, and even though Snivy evolved, Dino still won."
"So Ash wants this as a first and final rematch against Druddigon." Georgia said.
"Looks like it." Rosa said.
"Serperior use Leaf Storm!" Ash called out.
"Druddigon use Fire Fang!"
Druddigon rushed through the leaves, crunching down on Serperior's tail.
"Serperior use Aqua Tail!"
Serperior's tail drew in the water from around them, dousing the flames of Druddigon before flicking them away.
"Serperior use Wring Out!"
"Druddigon use Dragon Claw!"
Serperior lunged at Druddigon as the dragons claws bug into the serpentine Pokemon wrapping tightly around him.
"Serperior use Leaf Storm!"
"Druddigon use Superpower!"
Druddigon began opening their arms and wings, breaking out of Serperior's grasp as leaves spun about them.
"Come on Serperior, you've got this." Rosa said on the edge of her seat.
In a moment's notice, Serperior was flung from Druddigon's arms, back across the arena.
"Alright, gotta make this count. Serperior use Energy Ball!" Ash called out.
"Druddigon use Fire Fang!" Dino exclaimed.
Serperior flicked their tail, sending a large energy ball right at Druddigon as the dragon type rushed forward, fangs engulfed in flames as it collided with the attack, filling the battlefield with smoke.
"And it looks like Druddigon is unable to battle! The winner is Serperior and Ash!" Don George declared.
"Great match Ash, glad we finally got to have a proper battle." Dino said, offering a handshake to him.
"Thanks Dino." Ash said. "Come with me I want to talk to you about something before you go off to start training for the next fight."
"Sure, what do you want to talk about?" Dino asked, as the two headed towards the locker rooms.
