RomaPan: Resolution

Kiku was reading on the couch when someone dropped down next to him. He looked up to see Lovino, who was both flushed and pale.

"How did the gym session go?" Kiku asked.

"I don't know why I have to go!" Lovino groaned.

"Wasn't your resolution that you would get fit?"

Although Lovino was pretty skinny, his stamina wasn't the best. Lovino could run at great speed, but only for a short amount of time. He was supposed to be working on increasing his stamina, but Kiku was always worried after he returned from the gym, as he always looked as though he was about to be sick when he was done.

"I feel like I'm going to die every time I go," Lovino groaned. "I can't keep doing it."

"Do you have a trainer?" Kiku asked.

"Si. Some bastard from Germany."

"Maybe you should ask him to take it a bit easier, at least in the beginning."

"I tried. But then he calls me lazy and I have to work a lot harder. It hurts!"

Kiku wanted to help Lovino. It wasn't just that it was difficult for Lovino, but he was actually in pain. Normally, after he had gone to the gym, he had to take a day or two off, and then he would be in a foul mood afterwards.

His eyes wandered, before they rested close to the TV. Specifically, they rested on the console he had there, and he had an idea.

Lovino didn't want to go to the gym, but he'd already taken two days off while his muscles recovered from the torture he'd endured last time. He could already hear that potato bastard yelling at him for being lazy. If not for the fact that he'd already paid for the month, he would drop it. He didn't even care anymore.

He grabbed his gym bag, and he frowned when he noticed that the water bottle wasn't in its usual place. He went to the living room, seeing Kiku in front of the TV, playing a game. And next to him was Lovino's water bottle.

He went to get the bottle, and Kiku paused his game and turned to him.

"Are you going to the gym now?" Kiku asked.

"Si," Lovino sighed. "Time for torture again."

"Before you go, can I show you something?"

Lovino nodded. He figured that Kiku wanted to show him something in the game, and it was a good way to procrastinate going to the gym. But to Lovino's surprise, Kiku closed the game. And then Kiku started to scroll through the games, over and over, and Lovino noticed something.

"Why do most of those games have 'sports' or 'fitness' in their names?" Lovino asked.

"Because that's just what they are," Kiku said. "I figured that it might be easier to have these. They might be easier exercises, and we can do them together."

"…How much did they cost?"

"I got the demo version of most of these games. And a few of them were on sale. We can try the demo versions first to see if they work for you."

Lovino stared at the screen, then he looked at his gym bag, then the water bottle, then at Kiku. He grinned at the thought of him not having to go to the gym that day.

"Alright," he said. "Just let me get changed first."

I was watching a video from Outside Xtra on YouTube the other day about exercise games for those who don't like exercise, and I thought of doing something with this. January is notorious for having more people going to the gyms, but it's not always about weight loss. And sometimes, gyms aren't an option, especially for people who are more self-conscious or who can't afford the membership fees or who have physical limitations. So, more options are welcome.

In my case, a gym membership isn't an option because of my migraines, which can sometimes keep me out of commission for days at a time. It's a lot of money for something that I can perhaps only use once a week, especially during hot months, when migraines are more easily triggered. And I'm in the southern hemisphere, so that means January. I've also been sick recently: a wave of migraines, followed by tonsillitis, followed by inflammation in my lungs which took over a month to stop bothering me. I had to give my body time to recover, which meant that my fitness levels tanked a bit. I have a couple of exercise apps on my Nintendo Switch, and I was so happy the other day when I could do something more extreme than yoga.
