A/N - Hello readers. I've got a new chapter for you but before we get to it I'm sorry to say that schedule slippage has finally caught up with me as I said it would back when I started posting part 3. This is the last completed chapter so far. The next one is not finished and since I'm not the fastest writer in the world I can't guarantee that it will be ready by next week. Maybe it will but if it isn't don't be surprised. I thought I should let you know about this if the next chapter is late.

Disclaimer: The X-Men were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and belong to Marvel Comics. Harry Potter was created by and belongs to J.K. Rowling. I also don't own Godzilla and the other kaiju who appear in this chapter. I make no money from this and the only thing that's mine are the original parts of the story.

18) RESISTANCE

The Sentinels continued their conquest of the countries of the world and in most places they were having a fair amount of success seizing control. Soon most of the world was falling under their sway.

But not everywhere.

Some places fought back and were able to do so quite effectively with the resources at their disposal. Some people managed to make individual stands and some countries managed to mount successful defenses and even counterattacks against the Sentinels.

Colorado

"May you live in interesting times." That was what the so-called Chinese Curse said as Cain Marko remembered although as far as he or anyone knew the expression hadn't come from China at all but somewhere in the western world. Cain briefly wondered why, under those circumstances, it had been dubbed the "Chinese Curse" but soon brushed it aside. Regardless of where the saying had come from there was no question that the world was living in some very interesting times now.

Cain had followed the news regarding the attacks on mutants and the exposure of magic. During the days that followed he was tempted to contact Xavier but decided against it for now as he didn't feel quite ready to face up to him or the X-Men. He watched the debate between his step-brother and Dr. Trask and was taken aback to see the first appearance of the Sentinels. He, like many other people all over the country and the world realized that what was happening was way beyond anything that any of them had expected. This was quickly borne out by the speed at which the Sentinels began swarming across the world.

It didn't take long for the Sentinels to reach Colorado from both east and west and they took control of all of the state's major cities, Boulder included. Soon they had the city fully in their control. For the most part it was peaceful as no one knew of any suspected mutants in the area and Boulder didn't have a magical community.

Cain, like many others, wondered just where all the Sentinels were coming from but soon decided it probably didn't matter unless he somehow got an opportunity to do something about it. That quickly turned to resolve when he saw the news about the battle outside Washington D.C. and the double digit death toll of the soldiers who fought the Sentinels. Cain knew he couldn't sit back and do nothing. Even if he was only one person and had no hope of stopping all of the Sentinels himself he, or rather Juggernaut, would still fight against them. He retreated to his house and made his plans.

The University of Colorado in Boulder shut down its campus and sent all of the students home before the Sentinels arrived in the city. This actually helped with Cain's plans as it gave him more time to prepare things. He was already at his house up in the mountains when the first Sentinels arrived in Boulder. The more Cain thought about it the more it seemed to him that if Trask was the leader of the Sentinels, right now anyway, than the best way to fight them would be to go to where he was. From everything he'd heard that appeared to be in New York somewhere. Therefore he would travel east and see what he could find. Along the way he would take out any Sentinels that he encountered. He was sure he could do it because of his Juggernaut powers. As it turned out he was absolutely right.

Because of his size Cain drove a van rather than a car. He packed supplies for the long drive into the back of it before changing into his Juggernaut costume. He got into the van, started it up, and headed down the driveway from his house to the road.

He had barely turned on to the road when he saw three Sentinels marching toward him. He stopped the van, got out of it, and faced them.

"Who are you?" said the lead Sentinel facing Juggernaut.

"Shouldn't you introduce yourself first?" asked Juggernaut, "it's only polite."

"I am Sentinel 68,834" was the reply, "all citizens must explain themselves to a Sentinel if they are out of their homes."

"The 'Present Papers' style of law, is that it?" said Juggernaut, "I'm an American and I don't have to explain myself to you or anyone. You're blocking my way. You can either get out of the way and let me pass or I can bash you to pieces. What's it going to be?"

"He is an enemy" said a second Sentinel, "apprehend and contain."

"I was hoping you'd say that" said Juggernaut as he raised his fists, "let's do this." He ran at Sentinels.

"Stun him" said Sentinel 68,834 as the second Sentinel raised a hand and fired a stun ray at Juggernaut. It didn't stop him so the third Sentinel added its ray as well. That slowed Juggernaut a little but not much. Finally the lead Sentinel fired the same ray too. All three rays together slowed their foe down a bit more but still didn't stop him.

"This cannot be" said the second Sentinel, "he standing up to all of our stunners. What kind of mutant is he?"

"I'm Juggernaut" said Juggernaut, "nothing can stop me." With that he reached Sentinel 68,834 and punched it right in its mid-section. The super strength Juggernaut was endowed with caused the Sentinel to go flying backwards and hit the ground hard. Before either of the other two Sentinels could react Juggernaut treated them the same way. He quickly followed up things by running up to one of the Sentinels and bashing in its head. The other two had regained their feet by then but that didn't stop Juggernaut. He jumped as high as he could and punched the head off a second Sentinel before picking up its body and swinging it, thereby bringing the last Sentinel down too. None of them got up again.

"Hulk eat your heart out" said Juggernaut, not winded at all. He quickly pushed all three Sentinels off of the road before returning to his van and starting it up again.

"Eastern U.S. here I come" he said as he drove his van east. He was satisfied with his first encounter with the Sentinels and decided to damage some more of them as he traveled. He soon reached Boulder where he destroyed a bunch more Sentinels but left before too long because there were too many of them even for him to destroy at once. It didn't matter though. He'd made his first statements and he was on his way.

Latveria

One of the few countries that managed to keep the Sentinels out was the tiny European state of Latveria which was ruled by the infamous Victor Von Doom, better known to the world as Dr. Doom, Arch Enemy of the Fantastic Four and acknowledged supervillain everywhere around the world –

– Except in his own country that is. Supervillain he might be but it was also a fact that he was a very good ruler of Latveria and he took good care of its people. After his time it was often acknowledged by the history books that he took the welfare of the populace seriously and whenever there was something that the people of the country really needed he usually managed to get it for them without disturbing the Latverian treasury or raising taxes. That's not something many governments can say about themselves.

As his former schoolmate Reed Richards could attest, Doom was a scientific genius. One of his specialties was robotics. He was one of the top robot builders in the world. He knew everything about them and had made many contributions to the field himself. This also meant that he knew about many weaknesses a robot might have that he could exploit.

As soon as he knew the Sentinels were coming he went into action. Around the borders of Latveria he activated force fields. They were harmless to all organic being but whenever a robot crossed one of them its brain was immediately fried. No Sentinel got more than a few meters past the Latverian border before collapsing, completely nonfunctional.

If there had been enough time Doom might have used his force fields as a bargaining chip to gain more power over the neighboring states. Unfortunately the waves of Sentinels moved too quickly and it was all he could do just to keep his own country safe but he did it. Latveria came through the crisis completely unscathed and his people loved him for it.

Wakanda

As Queen N'Dare, Ororo's mother, had said, if there was one country that would be safe from a Sentinel invasion it would be Wakanda. She was right. The shield that bordered the country was proving impervious to the Sentinels outside it who were steadily attacking it but not getting through. King T'Challa, however, didn't just sit back and do nothing. He knew that any shield can fail given the right circumstances. The Wakandan shield was proving more than equal to keeping out the Sentinels but as long they were outside the shield they might attack anyone who left the country. In effect they were laying siege to Wakanda since they couldn't get in. Fortunately Wakanda grew its own food for the most part so there was no danger of starvation for anyone. Nevertheless, the king wanted to get rid of them and he wasn't alone with that sentiment. Most of the population felt the same way.

The Warrior Dragons in particular wanted to fight the Sentinels and were glad when King T'Challa called them up to help defend the country.

The king summoned Kamanda and three of the other senior dragons to the palace and met them on the roof where he gave them their orders. They were to proceed to the shield where they would engage the Sentinels directly. The Sentinels couldn't go through the Wakandan shield but the dragons could. This was brought about by a rather clever invention of T'Challa's younger sister Shuri. When it reached maturity every dragon received a Vibranium band which it wore on one of its legs – as Kamanda had demonstrated to Lightning. What Kamanda didn't tell Lightning was that each band contained a computer chip keyed to the shield which allowed the dragons to come and go as they pleased if they had any reason to leave Wakanda. This didn't usually happen but when it did they had no trouble with the shield. The chips also alerted the king whenever one of the dragons crossed the shield for whatever reason, although, as already stated, it was very rare for this to happen.

King T'Challa donned his Black Panther identity and went with the dragons to the border to oversee the operation and help if he could though he doubted the dragons would need much help even from someone like him. Some of his top guards went with him to help keep him safe although he probably didn't need them. When they all reached the shield the dragons went into action. First they all breathed fire through the shield and caught the nearest Sentinels in their blasts. This brought down the Sentinels who were closest to the shield but the ones further back stayed out of range of the fire blasts. In order to engage these Sentinels the dragons went through the shield to engage them more directly using fire, strength, claws, weight, tails, and teeth.

How do you describe a fight between giant robots and huge dragons? Well, you can't really. It's something that needs to be seen to be believed. The dragons were quite a bit bigger than the Sentinels and they ripped them apart until all of the invaders were lying on the ground in pieces. They well deserved their species name of "Warrior Dragon." However they didn't escape without losses of their own. Since the dragons had to come through the Wakandan shield to its outside they were exposed to Sentinel weaponry. When the battle was over two of the dragons had been killed and several of them were wounded.

The Black Panther had taken part in the battle too although he stayed out the way of any of the dragons. He had pulled off the classic "get in between two foes and when they both fire at you get out of the way so they hit each other instead" move more than once causing several Sentinel to fall to friendly fire.

When the battle ended the Black Panther saluted Kamanda who saluted back. They had taken some losses, but they'd repelled the Sentinels.

Japan

It was starting. As Godzilla watched the boxes began opening. From each box a Sentinel appeared and stood up. Godzilla looked at each robot with narrowed eyes. He could tell they weren't alive but were mechanical in nature. He didn't know how they were able to operate under water but somehow they did. As each Sentinel stood up and got out of its box it began walking in the direction of the Japanese coastline.

Whatever force existed that directed when the kaiju were needed to protect the world was now telling Godzilla that these robots were the enemy that the world needed protecting from. The great kaiju didn't know why these robots had been built and what their purpose was but his instincts had never steered him wrong and he wasn't going to allow these robots to get anywhere near land if he could help it. He leaned over and bit the nearest one in half causing it to immediately break down. It tasted terrible but the great kaiju didn't let that stop him. He attacked another one, and another after that, and another, and another, biting them all in half or ripping them apart with his claws. He knew this wouldn't be enough to stop all of them though, or even a large fraction of them as there were simply too many of them. He needed to do something more drastic that could affect a lot of them at once.

Resolving on a new course of action Godzilla swam towards the shore himself and got there well ahead of the Sentinels. The massive kaiju stood up when he reached the shallows and made his way on to land. Once on land Godzilla turned to face the sea and waited for the Sentinels to come up out of the water. As he waited he inhaled a deep breath and the spines on his back began to glow.

When the Sentinels began to come up out of the water Godzilla waited until they were just about to step on to the shore before breathing out and unleashing his atomic breath which immediately reduced any Sentinels that it hit to ruins of slag on the beach. Godzilla swung his head from left to right destroying all of the Sentinels he could reach with his atomic breath before turning to stomp up the coast of Japan and destroy more Sentinels as he found them.

On the other side of Japan Rodan was doing much the same thing although not having an atomic breath of his own he had to get more up close and personal with the Sentinels and physically rip them apart. They still couldn't stand up to his attack.

Bolivar Trask had prepared his Sentinels for many things but not something like Godzilla and his atomic breath or the strength of Rodan. The existence of kaiju was not something Trask had ever known about. He wouldn't be happy when he found out about them and how easily they were destroying his Sentinels.

Professor Xavier sat up with a start. It was there again. The huge mutant that he'd been sensing on and off for the past year. The professor could finally sense it without losing it at all. Wherever it had been hiding for all of this time it was out now. He sent his mind out to make contact with the mutant –

– And sat back in shock as he discovered just what that mutant was. A kaiju! That mutant was a kaiju! Not only that but he was sensing there was now a second kaiju not far away from the first one.

Professor Xavier had heard of the kaiju but had thought they were a myth as none had been seen in several centuries. Not even the two World Wars had awakened any. But now two were active. This needed further investigation so the professor sent his mind out again. He was amazed at what he found as he scanned both Godzilla and Rodan while staying in the background so neither of them would sense him. These were no mindless beasts. No, they were very intelligent beings. Furthermore they were not evil. He sensed a very strong determination in them to protect the world and to his amazement they were systematically destroying all the Sentinels in Japan. The biggest shock the professor received, however, was when he discovered that these creatures were telepathic! They could communicate with each other mind to mind.

A wild idea began forming in Professor Xavier's mind. It seemed like a ridiculous thing to do but maybe, just maybe –

He sent his mind out again and this time he made contact.

Godzilla stormed up one side of Japan while Rodan took the other side. Between the two of them they devastated the Sentinels everywhere they went. The Sentinels did try to fight back but as anyone with sense would ask: How do you fight against something that's 30 times as big as you are and ever so much stronger? Especially when that something has incredible regenerative powers granted to it from the influence of the nuclear testing done in the part of the world where it had been sleeping up until now? The Sentinels learned the answer to that the hard way.

As he progressed through the country Godzilla began to sense a distant presence in his mind. It wasn't that of another kaiju so he didn't recognize it. However it didn't feel hostile so he allowed it to approach close enough for them to communicate. Imagine his surprise when he discovered he was being contacted by a human!

Professor Xavier would never forget his contact with Godzilla and Rodan. It was unlike any other mental conversation he'd ever had before, or probably ever would have in the future. They didn't communicate in words as kaiju don't have such a concept and communicate in a more basic way. In order to properly "speak" with the two kaiju the professor had to dip into a more primitive and primal way of conveying information. He had to meet them on their level rather than the other way around. He found that conveying images of what he wanted them to know worked fairly well though it wasn't perfect. It was clear that Godzilla and Rodan could communicate with each other with no problems. Communicating with him was more difficult and took a lot more effort.

Somehow the professor managed to get his message across that the Sentinels they were destroying were not confined only to Japan but were appearing all over the world. However their place of origin was in the land where the professor lived. Could they help put down this menace at the source?

The two kaiju communicated with each other and finally agreed that once Japan was clear of Sentinels Godzilla would head to where the professor was while Rodan stayed in Japan in case more Sentinels showed up. Both of them agreed, however, that Rodan shouldn't have to guard Japan alone so the two of them sent out another call and woke up Mothra from her slumber. Once she was awake the two of them explained the situation to her and asked for her help. She agreed at once and quickly took to the air to fly over Japan and join the other two kaiju in their work.

With their plans finalized the first two giant monsters, now joined by a third, went back to destroying the Sentinels in Japan. When the islands were finally cleared Rodan and Mothra flew up into the sky and began flying back and forth over Japan to watch for any new Sentinels. They divided the country between them to cover more ground more quickly. In this way the two flying monsters patrolled the country and stopped any more Sentinels from arriving and there were more. Between the two of them, however, Rodan and Mothra kept them from overrunning the Japanese islands.

Godzilla, meanwhile, plunged back into the sea and swam west toward China. When he reached the shore he stepped out of the sea and began running west across the country. Now one little known fact about kaiju is that despite how big they are they can travel at an incredibly fast pace when they need to. Godzilla, in particular, mutated by radiation and given extra power by a nuclear core, was able to run almost as fast as an airplane can fly. He charged west across Asia at an incredible speed. He was moving so fast most people didn't even see him, but they could definitely feel him as he passed by since he left a strong wind in his wake. They could also see his footprints and the trail of destruction he left as he passed by because wherever he went he destroyed any Sentinels that he found. For the most part, however, he concentrated on reaching the place the voice had told him about but it was impossible to get there without wrecking any structures, be they big, small, many, or few that were in his way. However collateral damage is a part of war and few people would deny that the world was currently at war with an enemy the likes of which it had never faced before. Fortunately no one was killed as people who lived in his path had enough advance warning of his coming to get out of his way before he reached wherever they lived.

It took Godzilla a couple of days as he ran across China, then Pakistan, Afghanistan, through Iran, Iraq, and Syria before plunging into the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Lebanon. From there he dove deep underwater and kept swimming west passing Turkey and Greece before rounding Italy and Sicily and moving past the north coast of Algeria and out through the Strait of Gibraltar into the Atlantic Ocean where he picked up more speed as he continued swimming west towards the U. S.

After the professor ended his communication with Godzilla and Rodan he sat back in his chair somewhat shocked by what had just happened. He hoped with all of his heart that this wouldn't blow up in everyone's faces.

Harry happened to enter the professor's office at that moment.

"What's wrong professor?" he asked, seeing the look on Xavier's face. The professor took a deep breath.

"You remember that really big mutant I sensed last fall?" he asked.

"Yes" said Harry.

"I finally contacted it" said the professor, "it's on its way here."

"It is?" asked Harry, "what is it?"

"For that I must call a team meeting" said the professor and he mentally summoned the team to his office where he briefed them on his contact with the two kaiju and explained what they were and what they were doing.

"So let me get this straight" said Scott, "a 300 foot tall dinosaur-like mutant is headed our way to help fight the Sentinels once it and its partner clean up Japan?"

"Yes" said the professor.

"Well ####!" said Scott surprising everyone since he never swore, "this could be either really good or really, really bad."

"Or both" said the professor, "but you all needed to know about it."

"One thing's for sure" quipped Bobby, "when it enrolls at our school we'll need a whole separate skyscraper just to house it."

Nobody laughed.

(To Be Continued)

A/N - That's all for this chapter. I hope you all enjoyed it. Like I said earlier this is the last completed chapter I have right now so I can't guarantee the next one will appear next week. I'll try not to keep you waiting too long though.

Meanwhile please take a moment to leave me some feedback. Constructive comments are always welcome but no flames or trolls please. Stay safe and well everyone.
