Demon's Daughter: Love Across the Divide

Chapter 7

Gone Rogue

~Gwen's POV~

After my conversation with Charlie, she left my room to leave me be with my thoughts. It's not that I don't enjoy her company, I have new information I want to think about. Now that I know the whole story about mom and dad and how the extermination began, I want some time to myself. Need to let the information sink into my head.

That story Charlie told me about how Hell was formed and how dad was cast out of heaven. I wonder why mom or dad never told me about it. perhaps they had their reasons, but I had a right to know. I'm not a child anymore. I can handle any news thrown at me despite what the outcome might be. With a heavy sigh, I fell backwards, landing on the soft mattress underneath me. I look at the ceiling and start to think. As angry as I am at my father, I do feel slightly bad for him. He only wanted to share his dreams and ideas with the world, and he got kicked out of Heaven for a mistake. Perhaps he didn't think things through when he convinced Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, but he deserved better than banishment. He was just trying to get his ideas noticed.

Mom was the only one who believed in him. She's believed in dad's dreams since day one and has been working hard to make his dreams come true. This proved how strong their love for one another is. I respect that. It doesn't excuse dad's behavior, but I respect him. I just wish I could get him to understand that living your dreams isn't ridiculous. Heaven must have done a real number on him. I'd like to help him, but I don't know what I could do. Dad's more stubborn than a mule. You can't change his mind easily. The only person who could talk dad into changing his mind is mom, but even that doesn't always work. Thus, proving my point on how stubborn dad can be. If mom can't change his mind no one can.

(sigh) What am I doing? Is this what's become of my life? Running away from home because my dad was an asshole? Okay that part I don't regret. My dad was being a mega asshole. Not to mention he slapped me for speaking my opinion. Just because his dreams were shot down, doesn't mean he has to be a jerk about Charlie's dreams. Can't he see that Charlie's just like him? A dreamer, a hopeful spirit. Someone who doesn't quit despite how bad the outcome gets. Charlie's a lot stronger than dad makes her out to be. He doesn't acknowledge what she's capable of, nor does he acknowledge my needs. He still sees us as little girl's. He thinks he's trying to protect us when he's actually pushing us away. (sigh) I'm making myself depressed thinking about my dad. I close my eyes, rubbing my templets to ease the stress building up in my head. I do this for a minute before I stop. Laying my arms to the side, taking a deep breath. Opening my eyes to look at the stars on the ceiling.

Sometimes when I look at the stars, I think to myself what it would be like to be up there. Out in that dark big open space. Away from royal duties. Away from nagging fathers. To be free from all responsibilities and stress of everyday life. Floating around in the dark is the kind of fantasy I'd love to live. The perfect escape from reality. I wonder if going to Earth when he was still an angel was dad's escape? It probably was, but escaping to see and fall in love with mom was his great escape. Maybe someday I'll get that great escape.

Being here at the hotel, that doesn't count. True, I did run away but that hardly counts. What I want is to escape from Hell all together. I want to find a place on Earth that I can call my personal escape. It's not that I'm suffocating. I just wish to get away for a while. Only problem is I have no way of getting there, or do I? There is one way I could get to Earth, but I require some assistance from Octavia. Her father's grimoire is the key to my destination. Only there are two problems; using the book without Stolas finding out, and if he has the book on him. It is possible that according to Octavia, her dad lends the book to an imp named Blitz. One whom fucks with Stolas once a month. Great... so if I want to go to Earth, I need to find and retrieve the book wherever it might be.

Okay, I could call and ask Octavia where the books current position is. Depending on where it is, I'll have to come up with a plan for sneaking around without being caught and retrieve the book. Shouldn't be a problem. I snuck out without getting caught at home, so I'm off to a good start with sneaking. Then there's another matter at hand. I don't want Charlie knowing what I'm doing. I don't know if she'd understand what I want. I know it sounds selfish and ridiculous. Considering she's trying to redeem sinners to get into heaven. I want to tell her what I'm doing, and I will, just not now. I want to see where this goes first. If I accomplish my goal on getting to Earth, I'll tell her.

Grabbing my phone from the nightstand, I call up Octavia through speed dial. The other side rings for five seconds before she picks up.

(Italic is Octavia, Bold is Gwen)

"Hello?"

"Octavia, it's Gwen."

"Oh, hey Gwen, what's up?"

"You wouldn't believe it if I told you."

"Really, what happened?"

So, I give Octavia the short version of what happened from my argument with my father, to him losing his temper, me running away, and the story Charlie told me. Okay, maybe the short version I was going for extended out a little, but I wanted Octavia to understand everything. After all she's my best friend. She has a right to know things. She's a third sister to me. Oh, let me explain. There's Charlie, my older sister, followed by Vaggie, who's like my second big sister. Which leaves Via as my third older sister. She's older than me by a year, so that makes her my big sister. Sometimes I'm Via's big sister when she's depressed and in need of a shoulder to cry on.

The two of us have been friends since I was four and she was five years old. Our parents would set up playdates for us, and we would play for hours doing many fun activities. Whether it was drawing whatever our imaginations could conjure to running around in the backyard chasing each other. Those were carefree days when you didn't have to worry about what was happening beyond the walls of your home. When your innocence as a child remained pure. Now that we were older, those were memories that would like with us forever, and then reality stepped in.

As soon as I finished, Octavia spoke, "Wow... I can't believe that happened. Your dad really slapped you and you ran away from home?"

"It's the truth Octavia. My father's a stubborn asshole who never listens to me. He won't take Charlie's work seriously and he keeps treating me like a child. I'm sick of his attitude and I'm sick of the way he talks poorly about Charlie's dream."

"I get it, she's your sister and you want to support her dreams. Give her encouragement to reach that lifelong goal despite the negative criticism from your dad."

"Yeah, that's exactly what I mean."

I was glad Octavia understood.

She's a true friend.

"I'm sorry that happened to you Gwen, and I'm sorry your dad's being an asshole."

"Thanks, Via, I don't know what I'm going to do if my dad doesn't accept Charlie's goal."

"I hate to say this, but there might not be anything you can do. Your dad is going to need to resolve this himself. He's got to take a moment to clear his thoughts and realize you and Charlie are more important than anything else in Hell."

With a soft sigh I reply, "Your right Via, my dad's got to come to his senses and realize he's being an asshole. I want him to wake up, look in the mirror, and see himself for the asshole he is."

Via laughed heartedly upon hearing that. "I like the way you think Gwen."

I let out a small laugh myself. "Thanks, Via. (soft sigh) Listen, I wanted to ask you something."

"What's up?"

"I was wondering if your dad had his grimoire. on his at all, or if it's with that imp he likes so much."

"His grimoire? I think it's with his boyfriend, why do you ask?"

"Before I tell you, do you promise to keep this a secret? Keep this between the two of us for now?"

"I promise, this will be between the two of us."

"Okay, I want to go to Earth and explore. Check out what it's like up there, meet some people, mingle, live for a change. Not that hanging out with you is awful..." I didn't want Octavia to get the wrong idea about my intentions.

"I get it Gwen." Octavia began. "You want to get away from the royal life and a change in scenery would be good. Besides, I know you'd never say anything awful to me. We've been friends for too long. Our friendship is as strong as stone."

Phew, I'm glad she understood.

"I'm glad you understand Via, so, do you know where the book is?"

"My dad's going to be receiving it later today because it's the full moon. Blitz and my dad have a deal where the grimoire is returned once a month to my father for... 'personal business'."

She sounded a tad uncomfortable and embarrassed saying that last part. It was obvious what 'personal business' meant. Via's told me all about what happened between her parents and her dad's personal business with the imp, known as Blitz. I'm not going to lie; I don't blame Stolas for cheating on Stella. That woman is the biggest bitch in Hell. She's worse than Velvette from the V's. A man like Stolas needs a real loving relationship; although, I don't know the full details with his relationship with Blitz. I'd like to think that maybe there's hope for the pair, but who could say. It's not my business to interfere with other people's business or personal lives.

I'm getting off track, back to my conversation with Via. Having learned that her father would be receiving the grimoire from Blitz this evening, I made plans with Via to come over tomorrow morning. I wasn't going to interfere with nightly activities. I would be over after breakfast first thing tomorrow. Taking my plan into action to use the grimoire for a short time to visit Earth. How was I going to pull this off? All will be explained once I arrive at Via's manor, tomorrow.

~The Next Day~

(Normal POV)

A new day in Hell was about to begin. The rays of light were trying to peek through the drapes of Gwen's bedroom window, but only a small ray snuck in. Striking the wall on the other side. Missing Gwen completely due to the window being closer to her bed on the right side of the room. Gwen was still sleeping soundly. Unaware that the sunlight's rays were bringing forth a new dawn. One Gwen was going to have to greet for she had an important job to do. After a couple minutes, Gwen finally woke up to the sound of her alarm going off on her phone. The sound of a soft dark music box melody played a loud.

Gwen slowly opened her eyes. Letting out a yawn as she slowly began to sit up in her bed. She was a tad drowsy, but that would soon pass. A quick splash of cold water on her face would wake the sleepy princess up. Once she was fully awakened, Gwen would begin her descend to Octavia's estate to commence with her plans. She discussed with Octavia through text message before going to bed about what the pair would do once, they retrieve the grimoire. The two would make an excuse to Stolas about going to get something in Via's room then go out to the mall for a while. The excuse to go to Via's room would be when the girls would sneak into the master bedroom and snatch the book. They would put a replacement on the shelf where the grimoire stood to ensure Stolas nothing that his book wasn't missing.

Gwen would bring a backpack along to sneak the grimoire out of. As soon as Gwen and Via were away from the estate, they would take the grimoire out and use it. Via had been practicing her magic thanks to her father's guidance. Gwen had faith in Via to use the book to teleport her to Earth. The location wasn't important to Gwen. She was eager to get out of Hell and live a little. If this trip was a success, Via would come with her next time, but this first trip, Gwen was going alone. She would be the guinea pig to this little experiment. Should anything go wrong, she'd take the fall, so Octavia wouldn't get in trouble.

It was a simple plan that Gwen was sure would work. As long as nothing unexpected happened that would throw the plan in chaos. Which Gwen was sure wouldn't happen. She told Charlie last night that she would be heading over to Octavia's early that morning to help Via with a video she was working on. Of course that was a lie, but Charlie didn't need to know that. Wanting to get to Via's house as soon as possible, Gwen washed up, got dressed, grabbed her things, and headed downstairs. The sooner Gwen got to Via's the better. She just had to make it past her sister and everyone else. The best way for her to slip out was to be calm, cool, and collected. Nothing she hasn't done before. Walking downstairs, Gwen was greeted by a smiling Charlie as soon as she was noticed.

"Gwen! Good morning!" Charlie happily ran up to give her sister a big hug. "I hope you slept well. I've got breakfast ready for you before you head out." Charlie says as she cuddles Gwen in her embrace.

"Thanks Charlie." Gwen says as she let Charlie hug her to her hearts content. Knowing Charlie, she could hug Gwen for a long time. Which was something she didn't have time for. "Uh, Charlie?"

Charlie hugged Gwen more and more. Giving her a little snuggle time as she would give to Razzle and Dazzle occasionally. The little demonic sheep loved Charlie's snuggles. Gwen on the other hand, wasn't a huge snuggle person, but she let Charlie enjoy herself. Luckily, Vaggie came over praying Charlie off of Gwen. Guess Vaggie could tell that Gwen wanted out of snuggle time with Charlie. Gently, Vaggie pulled Charlie off of Gwen and towards her own body. Charlie immediately snuggled up to Vaggie like a kitten. Vaggie smiled, shook her head, and stroked Charlie's hair.

Gwen was grateful for the distraction from Vaggie. "Okay, I'm just going to go have breakfast before I go to Via's place." She makes her way towards the kitchen.

Sure enough, there was a tray with a tasty warm breakfast of French Toast on it. Just waiting for Gwen to eat, to savor each delicious bite. Gwen smiled, picked up and carried the tray to the table. She sat herself down and began to eat. Charlie always made tasty meals for breakfast. Which Gwen appreciated. Her sister always took the time to prep amazing food whenever Gwen stayed over. As she was eating, Gwen took out her phone to send a text to Via. She wanted to make sure the plan was still on for today.

Gwen: Hey Via, morning.

Via: Morning Gwen.

Gwen: We still on for this morning's plan?

Via: All set! (thumb up emoji) My dad believed the lie I had told him about you coming over to help with a video for HellTube.

Gwen: Good, we'll turn some music on in the room to make it believable. Then, we'll sneak into his room, grab the grimoire, and prepare for Operation Earth.

Via: Operation Earth?

Gwen paused for a moment when she realized what she sent.

Gwen: I don't know why I said that.

Via: (laugh emoji) It's alright, it happens to the best of us.

Gwen: True. Anyway, I'll be over at your place in half an hour or so. I'm just having breakfast my sister made me.

Via: That's nice of her. It's sweet how much Charlie takes care of you.

Gwen: Well, she is my big sister. I'll see you soon Via.

Via: See you soon Gwen.

Having finished with their conversation, Gwen put her phone away in the side pocket of her bag. She returned her attention to her breakfast. Finishing it so she could get going. The sooner she left the hotel the better. Putting her empty dishes in the sink and grabbing her bag, Gwen made her way straight for the front doors. Only to be stopped a foot from the doors by none other than Alastor.

"Good morning, Gwendalyn." He said in his usual cheery radio voice, "Where might you be off to this morning?"

"Oh, morning Alastor, I'm heading for my friend Via's house. I promised I'd help her with this video she's hoping to post on HellTube." Gwen told him. Her eyes going back at him and the door. Clearly, she wanted to get through the doors and outside.

Alastor could see the impatience in her eyes. Chuckling a loud in amusement, "I didn't take you for one to get involved in making videos Gwendalyn. Is that truly why you're so eager to leave so soon?" Alastor leaned in closer to Gwen's face. Giving her his best smile all the while.

Gwen, wanting to leave had to come up with an excuse to pass, "Yeah well Via's my friend and while I may not be into making videos to post online, I'm going to help her anyway. Now if you don't mind, I've got to go." Gwen tried to walk past Alastor, but he held an arm out stopping her.

"What's the rush? Why not stay a while so we can chat?" He suggested, "Charlie told me about yesterday's events. How you ran away from home and got into an argument with your father and now you're staying at the hotel now."

"Alastor, I really don't have time for games right now. Can I please just go?" Gwen knew what kind of man Alastor was, and getting on his bad side was something one should never do; however, she didn't have time for his foolishness when she had a date with the grimoire.

"Alastor, will you let her go already?" Came Vaggie's voice from behind Gwen, "I don't know why you have to be so obnoxious and toy with her."

"Just having a little fun on my part Vaggie." Moving his arm back to his body and taking a step to the left, Alastor granted Gwen access to the front doors.

"Thank you. See you guys later." Gwen waved goodbye as she sprinted out.

"Wait Gwen! When do you plan on being back?!" Charlie called out from the entrance way after Gwen.

"I'll try aiming for either three or five." Gwen replied as she got herself set up upon her scooter, "Depends if Via and I go out later if we get the video done early."

"Well, okay but please call or text me if something changes or when you're coming back." Charlie didn't want to have to worry about her sister so long as she got a reply.

"I won't forget." Gwen strapped her helmet on then started the engine on her scooter.

"Take care! Drive safe! Say hi to Via for me!"

"I will Charlie, bye!"

Gwen began to drive down the road giving her scooter enough speed and power to use its wings to take off into the deep red sky.

I'm going to stop here.

The next chapter will be getting into the girls using the grimoire and Gwen arriving on Earth.
