Act IV, Scene 1
Michael drove himself and the man he wrongly believed to be Devon to the vault, for an update on the Cernium 116. Bonnie was waiting for them, as was Dr. Naylor. She greeted the imposter like an old friend, and he reciprocated. Michael was not pleased, though only Bonnie noticed. She placed a warning hand on his shoulder.
They went down, the imposter successfully making it past the palm scanner (to his relief). As the elevator descended, Michael assured the imposter that he had made all the necessary security checks. He even listed all the security protocols in place. The imposter stated his intention to double check, given the importance of the Cernium 116. Dr. Naylor agreed that vigilance was necessary, especially given Devon's greater experience and intelligence.
The imposter made a show of examining the vault, its security, and the monitors in place. Not even Michael realized it was a show. That he had no clue what he was looking at. Knowing Nordstrom's timetable, he suggested an additional 24 hours before moving the Cernium 116. Dr. Naylor immediately agreed and even offered to back his decision to the Board.
Bonnie and Michael remained behind as the other two went back up to the lobby. Bonnie could tell Michael was wound up. She reassured Michael that Devon was just playing the long game to keep the Foundation alive, something they had both seen him do before. Michael considered what she said. When they had first met after Michael had woken up at the Knight mansion, Michael had grudgingly respected him, even though they disagreed on nearly everything. But for the first time since meeting Devon, Michael found himself thoroughly disliking the man.
Act IV, Scene 2
Hower was with the technicians, working on the Juggernaut. When Nordstrom called, Hower was able to state categorically that they were going to meet Nordstrom's deadline. Thankfully.
In addition to getting the update on the Juggernaut, Nordstrom was calling with new instructions for his underling. With the information from Devon, Dr. Von Furst had been able to develop a destabilizing agent that would neutralize the Trans-Am's coating, making it no better protected than any other vehicle on the road. Nordstrom directed Hower to arrange for the destabilizing agent to be applied as soon as possible.
Act IV, Scene 3
Michael and Kitt were driving, unsure of what they should be doing. Michael raised his concerns about Devon and his odd behavior, though he talked himself into believing everything was fine. With a little help from Kitt.
Kitt had been investigating the earlier attempt on them. He had determined that there no road crews had been authorized to be working on the tunnel and the dump truck – while a City of Chicago vehicle – had been stolen. Michael was concerned, wondering how the attempt fit into the overall picture.
Michael thanked Kitt for his assistance, which triggered Kitt to raise – once again – the issue of his appearance. Michael did not want to have that conversation. Fortunately, he was saved by a call from Bonnie, who relayed a message from Marta. Dr. Quinlin's assistant wanted to meet with Michael as soon as possible. Bonnie gave them the location, and she wished them luck.
Act IV, Scene 4
Michael and Kitt arrived at the meeting place shortly after Bonnie passed on the message. Marta arrived a short time later in a cab. Michael got out of Kitt and went over to Marta. She told him about a call she had received. Someone with information about the Cernium 116 wanted to meet with Michael before it was too late.
While they were talking, a spray truck – labeled "Chicago Pest Control" – drove by. It sprayed Kitt, forcing him to close his windows and turn on his wipers.
Marta asked to accompany Michael, but he told her to stay put. She kissed him for luck, and then Michael and Kitt drove off.
Act IV, Scene 5
Arriving at the address Marta provided, Michael and Kitt discussed their options. Something was messing with Kitt's sensors. Several somethings, in fact. The rubble in the area was blocking his radar and underground steam tunnels were blocking his heat sensors. Knowing it was likely a trap, they continued anyway.
And then the Juggernaut showed up, breaking through a solid brick wall.
Despite its slower speed, the terrain prevented Kitt from using his superior speed and handling. But when the Juggernaut hit Kitt, he realized the truth: his MBS was no longer protecting them.
No matter what they tried, Michael and Kitt were unable to escape the Juggernaut. Using its battering ram, the Juggernaut pummeled Kitt into a crumpled piece of metal, with Michael trapped inside.
