10/26/2656- Sunuvral Republic Declares Victory On Opponaru, Further Operations Expected
"Today, the Sunuvral Republic announced The defeat of the final significant Union force remaining on the planet of Opponaru. The 315th Infantry Battalion of the Union's 31st Fardris Dragoons Brigade were out for training exercises during the invasion's beginning. When Republic troops began to land, the 315th moved to secure several towns southeast of the city of Fadrasalin, attempting to organize and properly equip local militia forces (more designed for dealing with pirates than military forces) to reinforce the city of Sadralin Vors. The city fell before the 315th finished the militia's reorganization, leaving the Battalion and the newly formed 1st through 3rd Opponaru Auxiliary Companies to attempt to recapture the city, an endeavor that proved disastrous, leaving the 315th at only 60 percent strength and the militia shattered through losses, surrenders, and desertion. The remaining Union forces managed to hold on to its domed towns for several more days, the militia proving far more effective while protecting their own homes than on the offensive, but they were slowly captured. Three hours ago, the domed town of Inglamor, a company town holding the employees of a nearby mine, was captured by Republic forces, the last remaining territory held by the Union on the planet. Several units from the 315th remain unaccounted for, as is true for many Union formations on the planet. The Republic has already announced operations for capturing these holdouts hiding on the barren surface of the planet."
