As the alarm went off on his clock, the ringing piercing his ears and waking him from his deep slumber, Naruto had the biggest grin on his face. Today is the day! Finally after all this time!! Even in his thoughts, he was as loud as ever. Looking at the clock another thought ran through his head, Oh shit, I'm going to be late!! He jumped out of bed, the covers falling to the floor. He paid them no mind, within 10 minutes the seals hidden in the blanket would activate, bringing it back to the bed and making it look freshly made.

He ran through his morning routine and got ready for the day. When it came time to choose his outfit, he slowed down a minute to think through it. This was a big day after all, so not just any old outfit would do. He finally found the perfect outfit and threw it on. He quickly took a look in the mirror, to make sure everything looked in order.

He had black pants with an orange stripe going up the outside of each leg. He had a basic mesh shirt on over his chest, and on top of that was a light weight, gray jacket. On the back of the jacket was the red spiral of the Uzumaki crest. He had on the standard blue sandals, and finally, across his forehead was his brand new hitai-ate! In his opinion it tied the whole outfit together. With a satisfied nod, he ran out his room, heading to the kitchen. He sat down at the table, a plate already in front of him. He dug in, and as usual, it was just right! He heard laughter coming from the head of the table as he scarfed down his breakfast, which caused him to look up at the man that had laughed.

His father was sitting there, toast in one hand and book in the other. He smiled at Naruto, giving another chuckle.

"What's the matter son, worried you're going to be late?" his smile turned into a grin, as Naruto was flustered and tried to respond, but all that came out was, "Aas I'm worr'd 'll b-"

"NARUTO NAMIKAZE!!! What have I said about talking with your mouth full!!"Naruto was cut off as a yell rang through the house and a spatula whacked him on the back side of the head. Not learning from his mistake he went to speak again, and got another smack before he took the hint. He swallowed the food and glared at the woman who hit him, her fiery red hair seeming to come alive as she glared right back at him. Despite the glare, both had a friendly smirk on their face, it was part of the morning ritual at this point. "Now, what were you trying to say?" she smiled, both sweetly and terrifyingly.

Naruto gulped down the rest of his food before responding, "I was saying, that yes I am worried I'll be late! What'll everyone think?! So gotta run! Thanks for cooking, Mom! See ya later, Dad!" Before either of them could say anything else he ran out the kitchen, down the hall and out the front door, slamming it as he left. The red haired woman, Kushina Namikaze, was fuming! "I didn't even get to kiss him goodbye. And he slammed the damn door!!" Her husband, Minato Namikaze, just looked on and grinned to himself. He decided to defuse the situation by flashing over to her and wrapping her in a hug.

"Now now, Kushina. He's a grown boy! He has every right to be excited this morning! He hasn't even gone through the final test yet." At this they both starting laughing, remembering their own experiences with the final graduation test of Konoha."Speaking of, has he told you how he is going to test Naruto's team yet?" Kushina looked up at her husband curiously.Minato shook his head, meeting her gaze. "No not yet, and honestly, I'm looking forward to the surprise myself. Hopefully, this will get him out of his rut." With that, he kissed his wife on the cheek, and started helping her with the dishes.

Naruto raced through the village, running past people and trying his best to not bump into too many people just going about their day. He wasn't doing very good, but he couldn't help how excited he was! It was finally the team assignment day! He had passed the Academy examinations and finally been promoted to genin, and now he would get to meet his team and his sensei. The other people on the street recognized him and chose to say nothing. No one wanted to be the person who reprimand the Hokage's son. They did their best to move out of the way as Naruto barreled through the crowds.

Naruto made it to the Academy in record time, running as fast as he could go. He ran through the halls, paper on the walls fluttering in the breeze his running caused. Some even flew loose, falling to the ground and causing a mess. Naruto reached his classroom and threw open the door, as everyone turned to look at him. He was late, everyone else was already sitting in their seats. The instructor at the front of the class turned to look at him, a tick mark appearing next to his eyes.

"Naruto!" he exclaimed, "How good of you to join us. I would have thought the son of our leader would know how to be punctual. Never the less, take a seat." Laughter rolled across the classroom as students and teacher chuckled at Naruto's tardiness. Naruto felt his cheeks go warm as a red blush of embarrassment spread across his face. This only made everyone in the room laugh harder, until even Naruto was laughing with them. Naruto responded with a small bow, "Thank you, Iruka-sensei."

It wasn't mean spirited laughter, and as he moved to take his seat he waved here and there to the other members of his class. He sat down next to a raven haired boy in a blue shirt with a high collar. The boy turned towards Naruto and gave him a smirk, holding out his fist. Naruto grinned right back, bumping the fist with his own.

"Nice work Naruto, late as usual." The boy spoke quietly, as to not interrupt the instructor. Naruto was not as quiet with his response, "Screw you Sasuke! I tried to get up early, I really did." Suddenly, an eraser hit the boy square on the nose, causing laughter to once again spread throughout the classroom.

"Naruto! If I didn't know better, I would think you don't actually want to find out who your team is. If that's the case you can hand in the hitai-ate now!" Iruka was fuming, his face red with anger. Naruto rubbed his nose and held his tongue. Iruka continued, "Good. Now as long as there are no more interruptions," he shot Naruto a glance, "We can get started with the team assignments."

At this, everyone sat up and gave Iruka their full attention. He smiled and began the team assignments. As most of the teams were read off, Naruto wasn't really paying attention. What he was doing was keeping focused for when any of his friends names were called, to see what team they would be on. He wanted to know if he was going to be on a team with any of his friends. He perked up as he heard Iruka read some names he recognized."Team 8: Hinata Hyūga, Shino Aburame, Kiba Inazuka. Your sensei will be Kō Hyūga, you may find him in room 108, across from us."

The members of the newly christened Team 8 stood up gave a bow and began to leave the classroom. Naruto smiled, It looks like Hinata got a good team. Though I'm sure she wished Sasuke was on her team. He gave a little chuckle at this as he saw the timid girl shoot a glance towards Sasuke as she passed him and Naruto. A few more teams were read off before Naruto recognized more people he knew."Team 10: Shikamaru Nara, Ino Yamanaka, Chōji Akimichi. Your sensei will be Asuma Sarutobi, you may find him in room 210, on the second floor."

The members of Team 10 stood, one incredibly energetic, one looking like he didn't want to be here, and the other munching on a bag of potato chips. They gave a bow to Iruka and left the classroom. Naruto had to contain some laughter, Shikamaru looked like he was in pain from Ino's yelling. Iruka kept reading names off as teams were formed. Naruto noted that he and Sasuke had yet to be called. Finally, as the last of the other students left, Iruka called out the final team.

"Team 7: Naruto Namikaze, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno. Your sensei wanted to surprise you so has asked me not to reveal his identity. Please wait here for him to collect you." Iruka looked at each genin with a smile. "Good luck!" With that, the man disappeared in a swirl of leaves.Naruto looked at Sasuke, who met his gaze. Both boys were grinning as they fist bumped again. "Alright!!" Naruto yelled, "We're on the same team, I knew it would happen!"

"Be quiet idiot, I think Sunagakure heard you." Sasuke said, though he couldn't quite keep the excitement out of his voice either. Sasuke and Naruto had been best friends since they were little, practically growing up together given how their parents were such close friends. Them being on a team together just seemed a logical conclusion. They then remembered the other person who was on their team, Sakura Haruno. They both stood up and looked around the room, and sitting in the back, was a girl with bubblegum pink hair. Naruto remembered when they were younger that Sakura would come and play with them all the time, but she had grown distant ever since they had all entered the academy. He had never found out why, but Naruto and Sasuke hadn't hung out with her in years.

She caught them looking, and gave them a small smile and a wave, but made no attempt to move closer to them. They both moved closer to her and sat down a few seats in front of her instead, so she could be a part of the conversation more if she wanted to. That's how they sat for the next 30 minutes waiting for their sensei to arrive. After all that waiting, Naruto was about ready to lose it!

"Gaaah!! I can't take this anymore! Where is our sensei?! How dare he be late like this! Doesn't he know how important today is?!""Calm down, Naruto. A shinobi will need to be able to wait longer than this during certain missions." Sasuke responded, staying calm and collected.

"Bullshit Uchiha! I see your leg bouncing under the table. You're just as pissed as I am." Naruto yelled back, pointing his finger at Sasuke. Sasuke stopped bouncing his leg, but was trying his best to hide the embarrassment of being called out by Naruto. A small giggle came from behind, and they both turned to face Sakura who was trying to muffle her laughter behind her hand. Both boys looked at her with the same expression.

"What's so funny?" they said at the same time, causing them both to glare and punch at each other. Both fists landed on the other at the same time. The result, two genin on the ground with chairs knocked all over, and the third genin doubled over in laughter.

"Now now, did I hear those words come out of your mouth, what would Kushina have to say about that, Naruto." A new voice filled the room. "And Sasuke, what would Fugaku say about that sloppy footwork?" Sakura was still wiping away tears from her eyes, trying to compose herself, while Naruto and Sasuke worked to get back into any chair. Once the two boys were seated and Sakura had finally composed themselves, they looked at their new sensei.

He wasn't very tall: only about five-foot seven. He was wearing a dark blue bodysuit, with a standard Konoha flak jacket over it. He wore steel arm-guards, plain of ornamentation save for the Uchiha clan symbol in the center of each one. There was a small sheathed blade sitting on the small of his back, set horizontally. His hitai-ate, tied around his forehead, was affixed to an orange cloth. His eyes were an onyx color, as was to be expected of an Uchiha. Sasuke's eyes went wide, Naruto grinned, and Sakura was confused.

"Obito!" Both boys yelled out excitedly. The man, Obito Uchiha, grinned at both of them as they ran towards him. As soon as they were within range, he slammed a fist into both of their heads sending them into the ground.

"Consider that as your punishment. Naruto, for the language, and Sasuke for the sloppy foot work on that punch. Of course, I can also let both your mothers know as we-"

"Please no!"

"Have some mercy!"

Both boys shouted out interrupting their sensei. Obito smirked, suppressing his own laugh. Oh yes, Minato-sensei. This is going to be a lot of fun.

"Get up both of you, and Sakura, get down here as well." The three genin lined up in front of their new sensei. "Now then, I want you all to meet me in Training Ground 7 in a half hour. Naruto, don't be late, otherwise their will be consequences. Understood?"

"Yes!" The three genin said at once.

"Yes what?"

"Yes, Sensei!"

"Very good, I'll see you all there in 28 minutes!" Then Obito was gone, leaving three sputtering genin in the room. Sasuke was the first to react.

"Alright, Training Ground 7 is on the other side of Konoha. We need to move now if we are going to make it on time. Sakura, I need you help making sure the knucklehead doesn't get lost." At that, Sasuke grabbed Naruto by one arm, while Sakura grabbed the other.

"Umm, guys. Is this really necessary? I can make it there on my own ya know.""Naruto, I have known you since we were kids. You have never been on time in your life. This is absolutely necessary. I refuse to have you make me look bad in front of Obito. Now get moving!"

The three genin sped away as fast as they could. As Obito stepped out of the shadow he was hiding in, he watched them go. With a grin on his face he chuckled to himself, "Oh yes, very fun indeed."
