Following directly where "Change of Ways" has left off, this story follows Dietrich and his enlarged Rat Patrol into Tobruk and a new type of war for all of them in North Africa.

Troy finally makes the decision to make amends with his mother after many years of not being on speaking terms with her - and brings Dietrich along as a mediator. The two faced many challenges together during the war, and after, but this one may prove to be their most mentally taxing challenge yet.

In the early days of being assigned to the Rat Patrol, Moffitt finds himself struggling to fit in, and fears his new assignment was a mistake. When he finds a wandering feral horse, he learns that he has something in common with Troy, putting them on the path to a fulfilling friendship.
