The feminine android that had discreetly spectated the duel between Kero and Marcy emerged from the shade of the trees, revealing her true features. She was another biomechanoid very similar to those found in both Corycian Cave and Jocotitlan Crater, but with a slightly reptilian motif. Her body armor was yellow with a few shades of silvery white. In the center of her chest armor was a golden Eye of Wdjat wrapped around a glowing yellow crystal orb, much like the case with Ganymede. As for her mask, it was a bright yellow Kanohi Rau with yellow eyes shining out of the eyeholes. But one noticeable feature was sticking from behind her head were slender silver cybernetic tentacles.
Even before the android revealed herself, the group of duelists was aghast by her presence. But as she emerged, Andrea felt a strong sense of discomfort, for the android bore a resemblance to Ganymede, who had previously dueled Mira and nearly killed her. But everyone else was too focused on the android to take notice. "Alright, we can see you clearly now," Mira demanded. "Now tell us who you are, and what you're doing here!?"
"I am Metis, a Pawn of Itzamna," the android introduced herself. "As for why I'm here… it's to duel you – Wielder!" She viciously pointed at the startled Marcy.
YU-GI-OH! CHRONIXII
LEVEL 1-17
TEEN GIRL IN A NEW WORLD, PART 2
"You're… challenging me?" Marcy stammered, still surprised and perplexed that she, of all the people in the group, would be the one challenged to a duel by a robot appearing from out of nowhere.
But Mira was downright horrified by this challenge, especially with the way Metis referred to Marcy as a Wielder. It certainly didn't help that Mira hadn't forgotten about the Iroa necklace Marcy was wearing when she first met her. However, Marcy did have amnesia, so Mira wasn't sure if Marcy knew what a Wielder was, or the fact that she was one to begin with. Still, Mira wasn't going to take any chances.
"Marcy, don't listen to her," Mira cautiously warned her. "Just say no, and let's get outta here."
"So soon?" Marcy said with a hint of disappointment. "Mira, maybe this guy's one of those 'special bosses' that distributes massive rewards if they're defeated! Oh, man, this is so exciting!" As she said this, her eyes sparkled in excitement as she wildly shook her clenched fists.
"You don't understand!" Mira said, desperately clutching onto Marcy's upper arms. "We have to get out of here now!"
"Escape is inevitable!" Metis haughtily corrected the group. "You are in an environmental illusion I have successfully generated, which prevents access and egress until I have my duel against this Wielder!"
"I don't know why you're calling me that," the annoyed Marcy defiantly spoke at the cyborg, "but I have a name, y'know – it's Marcy! And if dueling you is the only way to get out of here… then let's go!" She took a bold step forward, raising her Disk towards Metis.
"Marcy, don't do this!" Mira pleaded.
"Mira," Marcy said, determinedly eyeing back at her, "I'm glad you care for my safety – but you've been so nice to me ever since we first met, and so it's high time I've returned the favor!"
"But Marcy-"
"You know, if you're that worried about Marcy's safety," Kero said, taking a step forward, "I'll duel for her!"
"I shall duel no one but the Wielder!" Metis firmly declared. "And anyone who dares interfere shall suffer the consequences!"
"Yeah? And what are you gonna do?" Kero said mockingly. He quickly got his answer when Metis unleashed bolts of electricity from her fingertips, striking at Kero but barely missing him. "Oh… that…"
"Don't worry, guys, I totally got this!" the smiling Marcy said, reassuringly turning her head and giving the gang a thumbs-up. Fearlessly facing her foe, she continued, "Alright, Metis, whoever you are, I'm takin' you down!" She immediately projected her Disk's light blue blade. Metis responded by projecting the yellow blade that was parallel to the topaz crystal inserted in her left cuff.
Marcy eyed her Disk and saw the Game Duel Field depicting the ordinary forest move up to the center of the touchscreen. "Now activating Game Duel Field: Game World, Forest," the computerized female voice announced during this sequence. But since everyone was already in an 'environmental illusion' like Metis had claimed, the scenery around them didn't change in the slightest. But that mattered little to Marcy, because she had a duel to win.
"Let's do this, Metis!" Marcy declared, raising a fist high. "Game Duel!"
"Game start!" Metis and Marcy shouted.
METIS: 4000 LP / MARCY: 4000 LP
"I shall go first!" Metis declared. Five stacked digital cards materialized above her crystal, which she drew. Her eyes widened at one of the drawn cards. "Hahaha, excellent! From my hand, I activate the ultimate card born from Itzamna's will! A card that shall ultimately recreate these worlds, free from impurity and sin!"
Hearing this declaration horrified Mira, for they were close to the exact same words Ganymede previously spoke in her duel against him. Because of that, she knew exactly which card Metis was referring to. "MARCY! WATCH OUT!" Mira screamed.
But it was too late. Metis grabbed the card from her hand and raised it high. Indeed, the card was the same rusted card with the artwork depicting the blood-red seal in the black background, with the Krana Xa in the center and the eight planetary symbols within the seal's ridge. Metis bellowed, "I activate – ITZAMNA'S SPIRIT BATTLE!"
After ferociously swiping the card through her blade's center horizontal slot, the seal formed from underneath Metis, slowly rotating and enlarging until it was underneath her and Marcy. Afterwards the seal stopped rotating when it was fully enlarged, a wispy red aura formed around the seal.
"MARCY!" Mira wailed. A shockwave followed after the seal's activation, but Mira managed to clutch onto Kero for his protection.
"N-Not this again!" the trembling Andrea cried, clutching onto a nearby tree trunk for her own safety.
"Onee-chan, what's happening?!" the frightened Kero cried.
"Believe me, it's nothing good!" Mira loudly responded as she tried to protect herself and Kero. But after a few more seconds, the shockwave subsided.
"Jeez, guys, it's just a game," Marcy said, completely unphased by this dramatic sequence. "Seriously, what're a little special effects?"
She attempted to regroup with her friends, but as she reached the edge of the seal, she collided with the invisible force, knocking her down backwards. After quickly getting herself up, she moved her hands around to find some kind of escape, but was unsuccessful. "Okay, what is all this?!" she asked in disbelief. "First, a robot traps us in this 'illusion' or whatever, she activates a card that causes some kind of shockwave, and now I can't get out? What kind of special effects are these?"
"Marcy, those aren't special effects! This is real!" Mira loudly warned. "You really are trapped – and if you lose, you're gonna lose your soul!"
Hearing this increased Marcy's disbelief. "I'm gonna lose my soul?! What kind of nonsense is that?!"
"The girl speaks the truth, foolish Wielder," Metis haughtily corrected, the symbol on her mask now shining lustrously. "Itzamna's Spirit Battle prevents both of us from escaping until the winner is decided! And should one of us lose the duel, their soul shall be offered to the Almighty Itzamna in his quest for the salvation of these impure worlds!"
Marcy was in awe at this brief exposition. "This… is SO COOL!" she squealed, her eyes sparkling. "I mean, this is exactly what you'd find in something like Creatures and Caverns! Oh, man, things can't get more awesome than this!"
"Marcy!?" Mira cried, slapping her forehead in frustration.
"She's kidding, right?!" the equally frustrated Andrea asked.
"Sheesh, even I can sense that she's in danger!" Kero remarked.
"This duel's just started, and I'm already having the time of my life!" Marcy squealed. Excitedly returning her attention to Metis, she said, "Okay, Metis, let's see what else ya got!"
"Very well!" Metis said, grabbing two cards from her hand and slapping them onto her blade's two outermost floating zones. "I summon two copies of Virus Spawn in Attack Mode!" Two yellow hexagonal portals materialized beside her. Flying out of each portal was the same electrical serpentine creature used in Mira's duel against Ganymede. After their emergences, a miniature red Krana Xa appeared on each of their foreheads, and their eyes shone red. [ATK: 300 – 800] [ATK: 300 – 800]
"Wait a minute, how'd they get stronger?!" Marcy argued.
"It's all thanks to Itzamna's Spirit Battle!" Metis laughed. "As long as it's in effect, each and every one of my monsters will gain five hundred extra Attack Points! But as for all of your monsters, you won't be able to activate or apply the effects of any of your monsters that have Levels!"
"So that means the only Monster Card effects Marcy can use are those of Upgrade Monsters, since they don't have Levels!" Kero cried. "But… but Marcy's never heard of Upgrade Monsters, so that means she doesn't have any!"
"Don't worry, Kero," Mira said, placing a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sure Marcy will find a way to get through this!" 'I hope…' she worriedly thought.
"My Virus Spawns won't be here for long," Metis resumed, "for I shall sacrifice them both to summon this!"
The two electrical serpents dissipated into pixels. Afterwards, a pillar of yellow electricity shot up from behind Metis, making her coils flail wildly. A mechanical sea serpent flew out of the pillar, its body comprised of yellow electricity and covered in black steel armor. On its chest armor was three unlit orbs arranged in a triangular fashion. Its overall appearance resembled that of the seemingly iconic Levia-Dragon Daedalus.
"I summon the Upgrade Monster – VIRUS SERPENT, PROTAPOPHIS!" Metis loudly presented as the cybernetic serpent unleashed a terrifying screech. [BASE ATK: 0 / GRADE: BASE]
"My Protapophis may not be strong now, but it'll gain one thousand extra Attack Points for every Virus Spawn in my Graveyard! Right now, I have two – but combined with the power of Itzamna's Spirit Battle, that'll bring Protapophis's Attack Points to a total of twenty-five hundred!" The serpent growled as it leered down at Marcy. [BASE ATK: 0 – 2500]
"I'll place this face-down, and end my turn," Metis finished, swiping the last card in her hand through her blade's center horizontal zone. A card materialized underneath the serpent before disappearing.
"I guess she didn't have any Core Cards in her hand, huh?" Kero remarked, crossing his arms.
"No, she didn't," Mira coolly replied before narrowing her eyes at the serpent. 'Still,' she thought as she had an unpleasant flashback over her duel against Ganymede, 'if her deck is anything like Ganymede's, then she probably has an Upgrade evolution for that snake of hers! Marcy had better be careful…!'
"Alright, Metis, it's my turn!" Marcy beamed, joyously drawing her opening hand. "And I'll kick things off by activating my Spirit of Adventure, transforming the current Terrain from 'Forest' to 'Meadow!'" The FOREST Spell Card depicting the grassland forming in the mystical forest materialized. Despite its successful activation, however, the entire scenery remained unchanged; but that didn't seem to bother Marcy in the slightest.
"But there's more where that came from! Since the Terrain was previously 'Forest', we both draw two cards, and then I'll gain one hundred Life Points for every card in both of our hands – that's a total of eight hundred Life Points!" After both duelists drew two cards apiece, Marcy was briefly shrouded by a green aura. [LP: 4000 – 4800]
"Next, I summon the three heroes of Tantamore's Resistance – Galaruk, Elria, and Zeldriel!"
She grabbed three cards from her hand and, within a single swipe, slapped them onto her blade's floating zones. Three light blue portals materialized. Leaping out of each portal, from left to right, was Galaruk the bestial elf, Zeldriel the blonde-haired swordswoman, and Elria the archer. [ATK: 1100] [ATK: 1500] [ATK: 1000]
"And because we're now in the 'Meadow' Terrain, all of my monsters power up!" Marcy said pompously. [ATK: 1100 – 1300] [ATK: 1500 – 1700] [ATK: 1000 – 1200]
"Maybe I won't be able to activate my Leveled monsters' effects like you said," she said determinedly, looking at one of the cards in her hand, which happened to be Zeldriel, Templar of Tantamore, "but I can still use this card – Courageous Onslaught of Tantamore's Resistance!" After swiping the card through one of her blade's horizontal slots, an EARTH Spell Card materialized beside her. Its artwork depicted Templar Zeldriel leading Galaruk, Elria, and some medieval warriors into battle against an army of Skull Servants and Zombie Warriors led by a crowned skeletal king.
"This card lets me choose one of my monsters among the Resistance of Tantamore, and it'll gain Attack Points equal to the combined Attack Points of all other such monsters on my field! The monster I choose is none other than Zeldriel, who'll gain a total of twenty-five hundred extra Attack Points!" Galaruk stretched out one of his daggers, and Elria placed her crossbow on the dagger. Afterwards, Zeldriel placed her mystical sword upon both weapons before raising it high, unleashing a battle cry. [ATK: 1700 – 4200]
"Whoa, now it's way stronger than her Protapophis!" the awestruck Kero exclaimed. "Even if she can't use the effects of monsters that have Levels, she's still got this!" Mira, however, wasn't so sure. While it was true that Marcy's monster was significantly stronger, she was still suspicious about what Metis would truly be capable of.
"Unfortunately, Zeldriel's the only monster that can attack you this turn," Marcy resumed, quickly sliding a card through one of her blade's horizontal slots. A card materialized behind her trio of warriors before disappearing. "But at least I'll be able to slay that serpent o' yours! Go get 'em, Zeldriel!" Zeldriel charged towards the serpent and leapt up, unleashing a battle cry as she was about to swing her sword at the serpent.
"Foolish mortal!" Metis shouted. "You've just activated my Trap Card – Virus Shield!" With a wave of her arm, a THUNDER Trap Card materialized, its artwork depicting an electrical veil protecting Zaborg the Thunder Monarch from the incoming attack of Super Vehicroid Stealth Union. "When you attack my THUNDER-Attribute Protapophis, my monster won't be destroyed by that battle!"
"Doesn't matter, 'cause you're still taking damage!" the smiling Marcy reminded her. As Zeldriel swung her sword upon the serpent's head, the sword was blocked by a barrier comprised of an electrical hexagonal pattern. However, a thunderbolt shot from the inside of the barrier, striking at Metis. [LP: 4000 – 2300]
"Ooh, man! I nearly cut her Life Points in half!" Marcy squealed, hopping up and down. "This is just as exciting as all those boss battles I've played!" Hearing this, she immediately stopped bouncing and took a couple quick breaths. "Calm down, Marcy, the battle's not over yet – you still have a duel to finish!" Her determination returning, she resumed, "My turn's done, which means Zeldriel's Attack Points return to normal!" [ATK: 4200 – 1700]
"Very well – it's my turn!" Metis declared. Three stacked cards materialized above her crystal, which she drew. Carefully observing Marcy's field, she thought, 'I'm willing to bet that the card she placed face-down is her 'United Formation' Trap Card that would protect all of her monsters. Of course, I could be wrong, but I cannot take any chances!' Looking at one of the cards in her hand, she sinisterly thought, 'Luckily, I have just the card to get around that!'
"I activate the Spell Card, Hightide!" she said aloud, vigorously swiping the card through one of her blade's horizontal slots. A WATER Spell Card materialized, its artwork depicting a forest and some castle ruins being engulfed by overflowing water, all during a full moon. Without warning, the ground began to tremble violently as separate stone platforms formed from underneath Metis, Marcy, and even Mira, Kero, and Andrea.
"Great, what's happening now?!" Kero complained.
"I don't-! Wait, look!" Mira shouted, pointing straight ahead. Some large amounts of water began forming around both the duelists and the spectators, eventually creating crashing waves.
"Once I activate this card," Metis sinisterly explained, "this card transforms this entire field into the 'Sea' Terrain, and in the process destroys all monsters that aren't adaptable to it – which includes all of your monsters!" Marcy was startled as she witnessed her three monsters being swallowed in the current, screaming all the way.
"Well… that means your monster gets destroyed, too, since it's all mechanical and stuff!" Marcy loudly stammered, attempting to maintain her composure. And indeed, her opponent's cybernetic serpent was nowhere to be seen across the water.
"Think again, Wielder!" Metis haughtily corrected her. Almost immediately, the cybernetic serpent shot up from the depths of the water, unleashing a terrifying hiss. [BASE ATK: 2500] This not only shocked Marcy, but also Mira and Kero.
"You'd think my Protapophis was something like a Machine or a Cyborg Type – but it is, in fact, a monster of the Sea Serpent Type! As such, it'll gain a power boost from this Terrain!" The serpent unleashed another terrifying hiss. [BASE ATK: 2500 – 2700]
"Well, you're not the only one with surprises!" Marcy shouted, her expression quickly shifting to one of determination. A burst of water shot up from her field. Emerging out of the water was Zeldriel's angelic knight form, complete with the crystal wings and the mystical sword.
"How is this possible?!" the aghast Metis gasped.
"It's all thanks to my Trap Card – Zeldriel's Pilgrimage!" the grinning Marcy replied as a WHITE MAGIC Trap Card materialized beside her. Its artwork depicted Templar Zeldriel ascending from the heavens over a mortally wounded Paladin Zeldriel. "Since my Paladin Zeldriel was destroyed and I have no monsters on my field, I can Special Summon Templar Zeldriel from my hand! And not only can she not be destroyed this turn, but since I activated this card during your turn, she gains a one thousand Attack Point boost!" Templar Zeldriel unleashed a battle cry as she raised her sword high. [ATK: 2000 – 3000]
"Aw, yeah!" Kero cheered, raising a fist high. "Marcy just brought out a monster that'll be invincible this turn! Plus, it's way stronger than her Protapophis!" Mira, however, still looked worried. No doubt she was glad that Marcy pulled off a move like that, but Mira still had a feeling that Metis had something else planned.
"Impressive… I underestimated you, Wielder," Metis remarked. "Unfortunately for you, however, I still have the upper hand! And I'll prove it by activating the Spell Card, Virus Conversion!" After swiping the card through one of her blade's horizontal slots, a THUNDER Spell Card depicting Virus Spawn transforming into a beartrap materialized.
"By sending Virus Spawn from my hand to the Graveyard, I get to take a THUNDER Trap Card in my Graveyard and return it to my hand!" Another card materialized in front of her, only to transform into a streak of light as it shot into the water. Afterwards, a different streak of light shot up from the water and into her hand as another card.
"Lemme guess – your Virus Shield, right?" Marcy assumed. "Last I checked, it was the only Trap Card in your Graveyard!"
"You are correct," Metis said as she coolly slid the card she retrieved through her blade's centermost horizontal slot. Another card materialized beside her before disappearing. "But what matters is that I now have three copies of Virus Spawn in my Graveyard – therefore, Protapophis shall gain one thousand more Attack Points!" The serpent intimidatingly growled at Marcy. [BASE ATK: 2700 – 3700]
"Well… even if it is stronger than Templar Zeldriel, she still won't be able to be destroyed this turn!" the slightly trembling Marcy loudly reminded her.
"Oh, I'm not going to attack you just yet…" Metis sinisterly corrected her, "…not when I hold another card born from Itzamna's will! Behold – Itzam Incarnate!" After revealing the gray and seemingly rusted card to Marcy, the same blob of black pixels appeared beside the serpent, forming into the slender figure with the Krana Xa of red markings.
'Shit, I was afraid this would happen!' the terrified Mira thought, staring at the black digital figure. 'And I think I have an idea of what's about to happen next…!' she continued thinking as she flashed back to her duel against Ganymede. Almost immediately, the newly formed being flew into the serpent's chest.
"Once I inject Protapophis with Itzam Incarnate, my monster will become the 'Super' Grade, and acquire its three Super Cores!" The three unlit orbs on the serpent's chest lit up bright blue as the serpent unleashed another ferocious hiss. [GRADE: BASE – SUP / BASE ATK: 3700 – SUP ATK: 3700 / CORE: 0 – 3]
"Protapophis's Super Effect activates! By using one Core, you take damage equal to the number of Virus Spawns in my Graveyard, multiplied by three hundred! And, as you know, I have three Virus Spawns in my Graveyard – that means you take nine hundred points of damage!" One of the orbs on the serpent's chest became unlit as yellow electricity formed in its mouth. [CORE: 3 – 2] Afterwards, the serpent unleashed a beam of electricity directly at Marcy, making her wince in pain. [LP: 4800 – 3900]
"This can't be right…" the dumbfounded Marcy whimpered, slowly opening one of her tightly closed eyes. "I… I actually felt that!"
"Of course you felt that!" Metis cackled. "With our duel played under Itzamna's Spirit Battle, everything is real, including the damage we take!"
Marcy was startled, but quickly became aghast upon remembering what Metis said not long after activating the power of Itzamna's Spirit Battle. "So… So that means… I really am gonna lose my soul if I lose?!" she wailed. She fell to knees and frightfully ran her fingers through her hair, all while succumbing to confusion, despair, and disbelief. Mira, Kero, and Andrea were undoubtedly worried about Marcy, but were unable to utter a word.
"Now that I have gotten that out of the way, I shall now show you the true extent of Itzamna's power!" Metis bellowed. She performed a superhuman leap, landing directly on the crest of the serpent. "Protapophis injected with Itzam Incarnate – UPGRADE!"
Both she and the serpent transformed into dark yellow wires as the two sunk into the depths of the water, eventually transforming into a pitch-black portal before it closed up. After a few suspenseful seconds, an intense pillar that was a mixture of water and electricity shot up, making the waves violently crash. The pillar violently dissipated, and in its place was the same cybernetic serpent, only its crest and body armor were much more skeletal and demonic in appearance, with a crest comprised of six electrical crystals arranged in a hexagonal fashion. Its Core was represented as a large unlit orb on its chest, with five smaller ones surrounding it in a circular fashion.
"WITH THE POWER OF ITZAMNA, I UPGRADE SUMMON – ITZAM VIRUS DRAGON, ELECTRAPOPHIS!" screamed Metis, who was now fused to the crest of the serpent, her coils now more unruly. The upgraded serpent unleashed a monstrous screech upon its emergence.
"An Upgrade… Summon?!" the terrified Marcy cried. "That's a thing, too?!"
"Apparently!" Kero cried, remembering the duel between Mira and Reggie. "But how often it happens, I have no idea!"
"Once I Upgrade Summon Electrapophis," Metis resumed, "it immediately becomes the 'Ultra' Grade, and acquires its Ultra Core – which, in this case, is a total of six!" The unlit orbs on the serpent's chest armor lit up bright purple. [GRADE: ULT / CORE: 6]
"Electrapophis's Continuous Super Effect activates! Like its previous form, it shall gain Attack Points based on the number of Virus Spawns that are in my Graveyard – but in this case, it'll gain fifteen hundred Attack Points for each one! And with the powers of both Itzamna's Spirit Battle and the 'Sea' Terrain, it shall gain an additional seven hundred Attack Points!"
"So that means…" Kero whimpered, trembling as he began counting his fingers.
"It's a total of fifty-two hundred Attack Points!" Mira cried. Unsurprisingly, Marcy was just as horrified upon this realization. [ULT ATK: 5200]
"Next, I use two Cores to activate the Ultra Effect of Electrapophis!" Metis boldly resumed. "You take four hundred points of damage for every Virus Spawn that's in my Graveyard! Since I still have three, that's a total of twelve hundred points of damage!" More yellow electricity formed in the serpent's mouth, but the electrical gems forming its crest charged, as well. [CORE: 6 – 4] The electrical attacks were unleashed, striking at both Marcy and Templar Zeldriel. Zeldriel was surprisingly unharmed, but Marcy was not so lucky, for she screamed as the electrical attacks struck her. [LP: 3900 – 2700]
"Electrapophis's Ultra Effect also would've destroyed any number of your cards up to the number of Virus Spawns in my Graveyard," Metis said, crossing her arms. "Luckily for you, your Trap Card prevented your Zeldriel from being destroyed this turn. However!" Arrogance flashed across her eyes. "Your Life Points are still vulnerable – and while I won't be able to finish you this turn, at least I'll have the pleasure of knowing that a significant amount of them will still be diminished!" She cackled at the horrified Marcy's expense.
"Itzam Virus Dragon Electrapophis, attack her Templar Zeldriel!" Metis loudly commanded. Once again, yellow electricity formed in the serpent's mouth, and the crystals forming its crest began to charge, though both cases were more intense than before.
"ITZAM HELL THUNDER!"
The serpent unleashed its attacks at the greatest possible intensity, heading directly towards both Zeldriel and Marcy. Once again, Zeldriel was able to withstand the electrical attacks, albeit barely. Marcy, however, screamed in agony as she was practically electrocuted. [LP: 2700 – 500] Unable to take any more punishment from the attacks, Marcy uncontrollably fell forward, lying motionless on the stone platform.
"Marcy!" Kero cried.
'Oh, no!' the horrified Andrea thought, bringing herself to her knees as she reminisced over the duel between Ganymede Mira, who had been put in a similar situation. 'L-Like Mira, Marcy's gonna… gonna…!' She began sweating profusely as she quickly lost hope for Marcy in her panic.
The aghast Mira, however, was speechless. She had only known Marcy for less than a few days, and she already knew that she was one of the Wielders. There was no way she could let something like this happen to Marcy. 'Please, Marcy… get up…!' she pleaded with much anxiety. But after a few more suspenseful seconds, Marcy miraculously recovered, though it was evidently more than a struggle as she was heavily breathing even after she got herself up.
Metis was surprised at Marcy's recovery, then contempt. "So you've managed to survive after all," she said, completely unimpressed. "But there's still no way you can defeat me or the forces of Itzamna – so enjoy your final move while you can!"
Marcy did feel rather hopeless in the situation she was currently in. However, her courage was fully replenished at the thought of her new friends potentially being in danger, especially after the way they supported her since they first met. Defiantly staring up at Metis, Marcy declared, "It's my turn, Metis!" she shouted. Five stacked cards materialized in front of her ring's topmost ridge, and was shrouded by a watery blue aura. "I DRAW!"
She drew the five cards, a trail of virtual bubbles following behind. As she looked at her hand's contents, her eyes noticed one of one of the cards, causing another jolt to flash through her brain. 'I remember now…!' the awestruck Marcy thought.
"Mira, why is Marcy looking at her cards like that?" Kero asked. "Please tell me she drew something good!" Mira said nothing, but knew that Kero was right – Marcy did draw 'something good,' and she had an idea of where her turn would go.
Once Marcy fully understood the card that triggered her memory, she dropped her arms, but defiantly stared up at Metis. "Maybe I still don't know how I got here, where I came from, or where I'm supposed to go," she said. "But I know who I really am!" She tightly clenched her fists.
"Now I understand why you were so eager to duel me, and why you've been calling me a Wielder – because I am one!" Hearing those words horrified Mira, because revealing one's self as a Wielder was something they weren't supposed to do.
Marcy continued, "I've been chosen to protect all these worlds from Itzamna! And while I may have forgotten whatever that means, and whoever this 'Itzamna' guy is, I haven't forgotten friends like Mira, Kero… and Sasha and Anne! And if you think you have the upper hand with that lizard o' yours, think again!" Her hand reappeared, and she grabbed one of the cards. "Infused with the Iroa of Water, I activate…
"SOBEK'S UNITY!"
She bravely swiped the card through one of her blade's horizontal slots, and a card materialized beside her. Unlike regular Game Duel cards, the entire frame was blue, and its metallic yellow text was written in an otherworldly language. Its artwork simply depicted a man of blue digital light, who curiously had the same hairstyle as Marcy. The same mysterious figure emerged out of the card after its activation.
"This card lets me fuse it with a monster on my field to create something stronger!" Marcy bellowed. Stretching her arm, she added, "Sobek, fuse with Templar Zeldriel!"
Almost immediately, the digital figure transformed into a mythical creature that had the bottom half of a fish, and the upper half of a horse with a crocodilian head. Not long after, Templar Zeldriel leapt upon the digital hybrid. Zeldriel and her new steed transformed into blue wires before a burst of aquatic blue light occurred on Marcy's field.
"ARISE – ZELDRIEL-SOBEK, OCEANIC SAVIOR OF TANTAMORE!"
Emerging out of the aquatic burst was Templar Zeldriel, whose pearl white armor was now blue, and had an aquatic motif. The emblem on her chest was now a crude waterfall, which was the same carving on Marcy's necklace. As for her steed, it was comprised of light blue digital water covered by dark blue body armor. The steed itself nearly resembled a Pegasus, except its back legs were absent and its front legs resembled crustacean legs. As for its head, it was a mixture of a horse and a crocodile. Upon its emergence, the steed unleashed a cry that was a weird combination between a horse's neigh and a crocodile's roar. [ATK: 2500]
"Okay, I don't know where Marcy got that card, or even what that speech was about," Kero said, almost dumbfounded, "but that was SO COOL!"
"Looks like this duel's gonna be in my favor," Marcy beamed, "especially since Zeldriel-Sobek gets stronger in this Terrain!" The aquatic knight boldly raised her sword towards the sky. [ATK: 2500 – 2700]
"Useless!" Metis taunted. "With or without this Terrain, my Electrapophis is far stronger than your Zeldriel-Sobek!" Electrapophis intimidatingly growled in response to her user's claim. [ULT ATK: 5200]
"Not for long!" Marcy corrected her. "With Zeldriel-Sobek's effect, I get to send a card from my hand to the Graveyard, like so!" A card materialized in front of her, and Marcy swiped her fingertips across it, causing the card to pixilate.
"Impossible!" Metis argued. "With the power of Itzamna's Spirit Battle, you're unable to activate any of your monsters' effects!"
"I know," Marcy smugly corrected her. "I can't use the effects of any of my monsters… that have Levels! But luckily for me, Zeldriel-Sobek has a Level of zero!" Metis was aghast at this revelation. [LV: 0]
"But with Zeldriel-Sobek's effect, I get to choose up to three Level Four or lower Normal Monsters in my Graveyard, and return them to my deck! After that, my monster will gain Attack Points equal to the total Attack Points of the monsters I've returned! The monsters I choose are none other than the three warriors of Tantamore's resistance – Galaruk, Elria, and Zeldriel!"
Phantasmal versions of the bestial elf, archer, and swordswoman all appeared beside the aquatic knight, and were absorbed into her emblem. Afterwards, Zeldriel-Sobek was shrouded by a light blue aquatic aura. [ATK: 2700 – 6300]
"It still won't do you any good!" Metis shouted, completely unphased by the aquatic warrior's dramatic increase in strength. "If Electrapophis battles your monster, and if I take damage that would be equal to or less than one thousand multiplied by the number of Virus Spawns I have in my Graveyard, the damage I take automatically becomes zero! And as I'm sure you remember, I got Virus Sheild back from my Graveyard, so you know that it's the card I have set!"
"Oh, no, that's right!" Kero wailed. "That means Marcy really is gonna lose!" Mira said nothing, but kept her faith in Marcy's actions.
"I really am gonna lose," Marcy said before slowly cracking a smile. "At least, you think I would."
"Wait… what kind of remark is that?!" Metis demanded.
"Allow me to show you the card I discarded for my monster's effect!" Marcy proudly presented. "The Spell Card, Crystal Heart of Tantamore!" The WHITE MAGIC Spell Card depicting the red, green, and blue triangle inside a golden ring materialized beside Marcy. "Since I now have it in my Graveyard, Zeldriel-Sobek also negates all of your cards' effects, and prevents you from activating any cards this turn! So not only can you not activate your Virus Shield, your Electrapophis loses forty-five hundred Attack Points!" The crest on the aquatic knight's chest shone a lustrous yellow.
"NO!" Metis wailed as she horrifyingly witnessed her serpent steed getting weaker. [ULT ATK: 5200 – 700]
"This is for all the trouble you've caused," Marcy vowed. "Not just to me, but to my friends! Zeldriel-Sobek, slay that monster of hers! Super Seven Seas Sapphire Skybreaking Sobek Slash!"
The aquatic knight charged directly towards Electrapophis, raising her sword. The knight swung her sword directly across the serpent's neck, cutting the massive monster in two. The immense explosion that followed severed the screaming Metis from her steed, causing her to land face flat on the stone platform. [LP: 2300 – 0] Not long after, a virtual screen displaying Marcy's profile with 'WIN' written underneath popped open as her aquatic knight disappeared into aquatic blue pixels.
The seal shrunk until it was underneath the heavily damaged Metis, her orb slowly flashing and circuiting as she struggled to get herself up. "This… is not… over… Wielder…" she vowed as if her cracking voice was gasping its last breath. "Itzamna… will… prevail…!"
After this vow, a burst of yellow ectoplasm was torn out of the orb in her chest and shot up in the sky. This was followed by a burst of light so luminous, everyone had to shield their eyes to prevent themselves from going blind. Once the blinding light faded, everyone was back in the forest-like area in the city's park, with Metis nowhere to be seen.
"Hey, we're back!" Kero chirped, joyously surveying the area.
"So, that Metis person… is she gone?" Marcy timidly asked.
"I don't see her, so it's probably safe to say that she is," was Mira's confirmation. 'Or rather,' she thought, 'I hope she's gone for good…'
Andrea was the only one whose eyes were still tightly closed. She slowly opened one of her eyes and immense relief came to her face upon seeing the forest-like area around her. "Thank goodness, we're home!" she cried, breathing a deep sigh of relief. Rushing over to Marcy, she shook her hand and energetically added, "Marcy, I am so glad you came out okay – I was sure you'd be a goner!"
"Aw, shucks, it was nothing," the blushing Marcy replied.
"Well, I'll just go get my camera, and-" Andrea began. But her optimistic expression immediately dropped upon hearing herself say those words. Horrified, she ran to her camera which, to her dismay, was still recording. "Oh no, oh no, oh nonononononono, this isn't happening!" she wailed.
"What is it? What's wrong?" Kero asked.
"I totally forgot about my camera!" Andrea explained in panic. "It must've been recording the entire duel between Marcy and Metis!"
Kero and Marcy were startled, but Mira was outright aghast. 'It actually recorded the duel Marcy just had?!' she horrifyingly thought. 'Then that means with the speech she just gave… everyone probably knows Marcy's a Wielder!'
"I mean, I'm sorry you're feeling this way," Marcy said in an attempt to comfort Andrea, "but it can't be that bad, can it?"
"It is too 'that bad!'" Andrea argued, her voice slightly breaking from anguish. "It recorded the duel you just had where you nearly got killed, and I didn't get to pump up my Fandreas on any of it?! What will they think of me now?!" Desperately, she pulled her smartphone tucked in her hoodie pocket and swiped through it. As she scrolled through the comments, her anguish gradually diminished. "Oh…!" she said.
"What is it? What's the matter now?" asked Kero.
"The duel I accidentally recorded… my Fandreas LOVED it!" Andrea squealed, her eyes sparkling.
"They did?! No fooling?!" the awestruck Marcy said.
"I'll say they did!" Andrea said as she read through the comments. "They were amazed with your resilience and comradery despite your memory loss – whatever those words mean – and they really loved the speech you gave!" Marcy was more than delighted to hear that, but this only made Mira more uncomfortable, for she was certain that now everyone was potentially onto Marcy's secret as a Wielder.
"And you know how this is a charity stream?" Andrea continued. "They loved your duel so much, the donations are through the roof! Get this – we made over one point five million yen!"
"One point five MILLION?!" Kero cried. "Sheesh, how many followers do you even have?! I mean, holy crap, we're loaded!"
"You mean the orphanage is loaded," Marcy reminded him. "Like she said, it was a charity duel to save the orphanage, remember?"
"I know, but one point five million yen!" Kero exclaimed.
"Ooh, this is so exciting!" Andrea squealed, unable to contain her excitement. "I gotta bring my camera back home to recharge, and then I'll meet you at the orphanage. Later, Fandreas!" Her camera drone quickly retracted, following Andrea as she ran home.
"Well, whaddya know?" Kero commented as soon as Andrea was gone. "Not only is Marcy free and we're back home, our orphanage is saved!"
"That's wonderful!" Marcy swooned. "Let's go back to the orphanage and tell Sister Golas the great news!"
She turned and was about to head off to the orphanage when her foot got caught in an overgrown tree root, making her trip and land face flat. After a few seconds, she got up with a few smudges of dirt on her cheeks. "I'm okay!" the smiling Marcy said. "Now let's go!" She shot off like a rocket.
"C'mon, wait up!" Kero whined, running to catch up with Marcy.
Mira was left all alone, still worried about the duel between Metis and Marcy being recorded, even if accidentally. 'Marcy isn't supposed to reveal that she's a Wielder,' she worriedly thought. 'But she did, and it was all livestreamed! I can only imagine how much danger she just put herself in by doing that! Marcy… I hope you're ready for what may come your way…' With nothing else to do, she calmly walked back to the orphanage.
In the inner chambers of some kind of throne room, there was an unpleasant conversation between a holographic projection of Jupiter and an unknown figure. The figure's identity was completely obscured, and it certainly didn't help that the only light came from both the projection and a few torches on the wall. However, the figure was abnormally large, and presumably animalistic, considering that there was a tail hanging down from the back end.
"What in thunderation was that?!" the silhouette argued in a male voice. "Do you actually have the unmitigated gall to send one of your worthless pawns to annihilate that girl, of all people?!" He was, of course, referring to Marcy.
"Calm yourself," Jupiter coolly but sternly spoke. "Don't forget – this 'girl' you speak of just so happens to be one of the Wielders we must annihilate. We must never let them interfere with the grand objective of Itzamna!"
"But must it be her?!" the silhouette fumed. "I need that girl in order to fulfill the prophecy of my kingdom!"
"We haven't forgotten about your prophecy," Jupiter said. "However, our objective is of greater importance than yours! We knew that the girl was one of the Wielders we seek even before she made her announcement like that. But our own actions are just – otherwise, both of our prophecies shall never come to pass!"
"And you knocking her off-course will guarantee our prophecies being fulfilled, just like that?!" the silhouette argued, raising a fist.
"We shan't discuss of this any further!" Jupiter ordered. "For now, stay at your post, and wait for further orders!"
Jupiter's projection shut off before the silhouette had a chance to respond. The figure was still infuriated over this conversation, but said nothing as he grabbed a nearby torch and headed down a corridor that led to a mural engraved on a wall. The mural depicted an antique wooden music box with three crude figures above it. The figures were, from left to right, green, blue, and pink. The figure gently placed his fingertips on the green figure. "I know you'll be here… soon…" he muttered.
Back in her office, Sister Golas was still looking over her bankbooks and paperwork to see if any cuts would have to be made to properly budget the orphanage's funds. She was busily doing some calculations when Andrea proudly burst into the office. "Sister Golas, I presume?" she pompously announced.
Sister Golas, already frustrated with managing the orphanage's budget, frowned as she irately eyed Andrea. "Yes, can I help you, young lady?" she flatly asked.
"Davenport. Andrea Davenport," Andrea introduced herself, oblivious to Sister Golas's annoyance. Mira, Kero, and Marcy entered the office, as well. "Kero told me that your orphanage was having some money troubles, so I was given the opportunity to stream a charity duel – well, two, actually – and I'm sure you'll just love how much money we raked in!"
"A charity stream, you say?" Sister Golas said, speaking more gently. "I mean, we are going through a bit of a financial struggle, so it was nice that Kero got you to stream whatever duels you had for charity. I can only hope that the money you've accumulated will be enough to support the orphanage."
"Well, feast your eyes on this!" Andrea beamed, proudly presenting her smartphone to Sister Golas, which displayed the amount of money accumulated from the charity streams.
Sister Golas was amazed. "You mean you actually made this much from your charity streams?!" she gasped.
"We sure did!" Andrea said. "And you mostly have Marcy to thank – after all, my Fandreas just loved the speech she gave towards the end of the second duel!"
"Don't forget," Kero interrupted, "I was the one who came up with the idea to begin with!"
"I… was just there to accompany them," Mira shyly said.
"Nah, I'm sure you did more than that," Andrea said, slapping Mira on the back. "My Fandreas loved her in my previous streams, and they didn't want anything to happen to her!" To Sister Golas, she added, "Can I just see your phone, if you have one? I need to transfer our hard earnings into your account."
"Well, I must say," Sister Golas said, handing her phone over to Andrea, "with all this money, our orphanage will be much better off than it was before! And I think Marcy and Kero deserve a reward for saving us from financial turmoil. Kero, for dinner tonight, I'm going to make your favorite – Napolitan spaghetti!"
"ALL RIGHT!" Kero cheered with a leap.
"And for you, Marcy," Sister Golas resumed, "you'll get… um… What is it you'd like, exactly?"
"Well, I like fantasy movies," Marcy replied, "so… maybe you can see if there are any good fantasy movies around here?"
After thinking for a moment, Sister Golas decided, "Actually, I'll do even better: I'm going to set you up with your own streaming service so that you can stream all the fantasy movies you'd like! …With parental restrictions, of course…"
"Who cares? That sounds wonderful!" Marcy swooned, her eyes sparkling.
"So it's a happy ending for everyone!" Andrea said, completely forgetting that Mira hadn't been rewarded just yet. Regardless, Andrea handed the borrowed phone back to Sister Golas. "All the money's been transferred into your account, Sister Golas, and it should show up almost immediately! In the meantime, I gotta get home – later, Fandreas!" She proudly turned and left the office.
"Well, I guess there's nothing else that needs to be done," Sister Golas said to Mira and Kero, "so I guess you two can leave while I set up a streaming account for Marcy." Mira and Kero were about to leave when Sister Golas called, "Wait, Mira! I almost forgot!"
"What is it, Sister Golas?" asked Mira.
"I almost forgot… your own reward," Sister Golas replied with a reassuring smile. She unlocked a nearby cabinet and handed Mira something she never thought she'd get back so soon: her Duel Disk Sister Golas previously confiscated.
"Hey, you got your Disk back!" Kero cheered. Mira herself was just as awestruck as she held her Disk.
"I figured that you've gone without it long enough," Sister Golas explained. "So go on an' enjoy Game Duelin' like you've always done!"
"I… I will…!" Mira said, still in amazement. She quickly ran out of the office to her bedroom upstairs.
"Man, you must've made her day!" Marcy cheerfully commented.
"I know she made mine by making Napolitan spaghetti!" Kero said before running out of the office as well. Once Marcy and Sister Golas were alone, the two began searching for the proper streaming service to set up Marcy's account.
Mira, meanwhile, got up to her room, her Disk in hand, and immediately went to her computer desk. There, she opened a drawer and pulled out a miniature manilla envelope. It was the same envelope previously given to her by Reggie, which contained the SD card Reggie somehow managed to acquire from Mira's previously confiscated Disk. Mira had smartly kept it hidden in the drawer before the events involving her and her friends getting abducted by the Devil's Hand.
She was about to take out the SD card out of the envelope and insert it back into her Disk, but then she paused because she remembered one factor: Pixel Pinkie. In all this time of having her Disk confiscated and her being captured, she miraculously hadn't forgotten about Pinkie, her supposed 'essential partner'. Pinkie didn't immediately pop out of the Disk to greet her, so it would only make sense that she would once the SD card was inserted.
After thinking it over, Mira carefully placed both her Disk and her SD card into the drawer before closing it. She figured that she had enough excitement for one day, and she wasn't exactly in the mood to have Pinkie pop out and arbitrarily greet her. Once the drawer was closed, she headed downstairs to regroup with her friends.
Nighttime eventually arrived at the orphanage, and Mira, Kero, and Marcy were now in their sleepwear, with Marcy's consisting of a light gray T-shirt with 'ROLL PLAY' written on the front and a square of a person with a staff in between the two words, and gray-green pants. The three were in Marcy's bedroom and watching a movie, War of the Warlocks, in which some of its characters and concepts greatly resembled those seen in Marcy's deck.
"Wow, so this is the movie that was the basis for your deck?" the amazed Kero asked as he shared a large bowl of popcorn with Marcy.
"Sure is!" Marcy enthusiastically replied. "It's one of the best movies ever made and one of my all-time favorites! When I heard that they were actually gonna make Game Duel cards inspired by that movie, I was so excited, you wouldn't believe!"
"I'll bet," Mira commented, crossing her arms while watching the movie. "And I'm not really into fantasy movies in general, but honestly, this movie isn't all that bad."
"Yeah, it is kinda awesome!" Kero said in agreement. "And I'm into sci-fi films more than anything!"
"Wow, you guys are really enjoying this?" the amazed Marcy said, looking back and forth at the two friends beside her. "Boy, you have no idea how happy that makes me – I actually showed this to my friends… back at home… and they… they…" Neither Mira nor Kero noticed, but Marcy suddenly became sad as a memory ran through her brain.
The flashback occurred at another sleepover, presumably back where Marcy came from. Anne and Sasha were at the sleepover with Marcy. Anne's sleepwear was a white T-shirt and black shorts with a yellow stripe on the outside of each sleeve. Sasha's was a pink T-shirt with 'girlboss' embroidered on the front in cursive, and green plaid shorts. Sasha's fingernails and toenails were also painted purple.
Everyone at the sleepover in the flashback was also watching War of the Warlocks. But unlike Mira and Kero who had shown genuine interest in the film, Anne was simply lying on a beanbag chair eating popcorn, while Sasha was uncaringly lying on the edge of the bed on her front side, her chin resting on a donut pillow, looking at her phone.
On the television screen, three fantasy warriors – two of whom closely resembled the swordswoman and the archer found in Marcy's deck – were leading an army of medieval warriors in a battle against a crowned skeletal king and his skeletal army. "Your puny resistance stands no chance against my undead horde!" the skeletal king taunted, waving an arm at the mortal warriors.
"I know what you're thinking," Marcy gleefully interrupted. She was wearing the same sleepwear as in the present, only now she also wore a cape, which was a blanket decorated with stars, dots, and moons. "The resistance stands no chance against the Lich King's undead horde!"
In truth, that wasn't exactly what Anne was thinking. She uncomfortably moved her eyes to the left and awkwardly said, "Totally…"
"But little do they know," Marcy said, mischievously pacing in front of the television set, "the whole battle is just a distraction so that our heroes can sneak into the castle and destroy the Crystal Crown of Tantamore!"
"Whoa, spoiler alert!" Sasha said, completely feigning her surprise.
But Marcy was too obliviously excited to notice her sarcasm. Feeling embarrassed, she said, "Sorry, sorry! It's just such a good movie, and I get carried away!"
"Mar-Mar, I'm joking," Sasha chuckled, swiping on her phone. "I don't actually care."
Marcy was dumbfounded by this response, but she smiled and breathed a sigh of relief. "At least I didn't ruin the second twist where it turns out-" Her other potential spoiler was interrupted by the donut pillow being thrown at her face, comically smooshing it.
"PILLOW FIGHT!" Anne and Sasha declared, holding up some nearby pillows.
Almost immediately, the three girls began the pillow fight. Marcy playfully deflected the incoming pillow attacks with the donut pillow. The fight lasted only a few seconds, but it was a few seconds well spent, for the girls dropped backwards, laughing all the while.
After the fight, Marcy noticed a particular scene in the movie. "Ooh, guys, here comes my favorite part!" she cried, moving closer to the screen. "…Guys?" She turned and saw that Anne and Sasha were sleeping beside each other, Anne snoring with her mouth wide open.
"Oh… You guys fell asleep… again…" Marcy murmured, feeling disappointed that her friends were missing out. Regardless, she gently untied her blanket cape and carefully placed it over the sleeping Anne and Sasha before resuming the movie.
"You'll never defeat us, Lich King…" was the vow of a black-skinned elf warrior.
"'Not when we have the power of friendship!'" Marcy joyfully quoted the movie in sync, but in no more than a whisper. From there, the flashback ended, and Marcy looked sadder than before as the quote echoed in her head.
This time, Mira did notice Marcy's sadness. "Marcy? You okay?" she asked her.
"Oh! Yeah… it's just… this scene always gets me…" Marcy lied. Coincidentally, her 'favorite scene' from the movie was actually playing.
"I don't know why you'd get choked up over that," Kero said with a shrug, "but what do I know?" He continued eating some of the popcorn as the three kept watching.
As they did, Mira carefully eyed down at Marcy. 'Maybe Marcy just misses her friends back home,' she thought. 'But don't worry, Marcy, I'm sure we'll get you back home to your friends… somehow…'
Around the same time at Giichi Corp, Giichi was in his office, observing the crystal-shaped graphics on a virtual screen, the purple and red crystals now lit up. Giichi also observed some captured footage of the duel between Metis and Marcy – more precisely, the part where Marcy activated her Iroa card, and the speech she gave before activating it.
"Now I understand why you were so eager to duel me," said the Marcy on the footage, "and why you've been calling me a Wielder – because I am one! I've been chosen to protect all these worlds from Itzamna!"
That excerpt of her speech seemed to be just what Giichi wanted to hear. He immediately closed the screen displaying the footage. "I still wish I could uncover the identities of all six Wielders," he monologued, "but I suppose three should be plenty, now that they're right where I want them." After some pondering, he decided, "It's time I arranged another little 'meet-and-greet' with our idol…"
