The Owl House Season 2 Episode 13 – Follies at the Coven Day Parade
I'd like to give thanks to my new subscribers on Deviantart. Your donation means a lot!
It's Coven Day and Belos has a special announcement to make to the Boiling Isles. Luke, Eda, King and Hooty scheme Follies at the Coven Day Parade to kidnap Raine Whispers (who seems to have lost their memory) and Kikimora to get her to visit her family without losing her job. Amity also joins in, wanting to help her boyfriend with personal dilemma he's facing after what happened between him and Camila.
Just a reminder, I'll be taking a mid-season break for a couple months to give more attention to some important things going on with my life. I'll be publishing new chapters again starting from mid-May or beginning of June. I'll still be publishing artwork for future episodes. If you'd like to see them, please subscribe to my Deviantart channel.
And with that, let's get this show on the road!
It's been a day since Luke's attempt with building his own portal door failed. The human-demon hybrid is in his room wearing his school uniform, where he's using his phone to record a video for Camila. He's hoping to reach an understanding with her so he can be allowed to visit the Demon Realm.
Luke: ¡Hola, Mamá! It's been a day since I made that flopped portal door. A day since I accidentally hurt your feelings; sorry about that again. I know you don't want me staying in the Demon Realm, but I'm recording this because I think we can find a middle ground. I wasn't able to tell you how cool this place is. This is a world of magic, beauty, and, above all… pure awesomeness. Just look!
Outside the Owl House, a skinless, skeletal Hooty is hanging out his skin to dry. The camera zooms in on his face, and Hooty growls monstrously.
Luke: OH MY GOD!
Luke is now recording himself outside of Bonesborough. He looks traumatized after what he just learned about Hooty.
Luke: In my defence, Hooty is anything but beautiful in general.
Luke walks through the town, smiling at the phone.
Luke: But you should know, I'm a sword fighter here, and I'm even learning magic! He brings out and activates a Light Glyph, holding a light orb. They say humans can't do magic, but I sure showed them. And I've impressed a lot of people.
Boscha accidentally bumps into Luke, looking at the orb, and it flashes in her face. Boscha screams and stumbles away, covering her eyes in pain, before angrily turning to Luke.
Boscha: Human! If you ever do that again, I will set your eyes on fire!
Boscha traces an orange spell circle, and Luke casually knocks her finger away with a Glyph Gun, causing her to cry out again. Luke turns the screen back to him, deadpanning.
Luke: Okay, what I mean is that it impresses anyone with taste. Never mind the cotton candy troll. She's a nobody. Just a simple-minded jerk from school here.
Boscha: Um… I was in the middle of-
Luke: Oh, and by the way, this is my enemy at school, the sinister and evil Triclops, the Cotton Candy Rage Monster.
Boscha: Stop calling me that!
Luke: And in case you're worried about me, I want you to know that things for me are about more or less the same from home. For instance, me laying the smackdown on bullies who have it coming.
Boscha: You do realize I'm standing right here, right next to you? I can literally hear every single word you're saying.
Luke: Luke digs a finger in his ear. I'm sorry. I thought I heard a high-pitched, annoying squeal. But I'm sure it was nothing. Literally.
He moves the screen to Boscha again, who goes red with rage.
Boscha: Stop talking like I'm not here!
Boscha casts a transformation spell to turn her nails into talons and tries to slash at Luke, but he dodges them easily with a cocky smirk on his face and a hand behind his back as he continues filming.
Luke: Anyone ever tell you the funny thing about anger? That if you let it consume you, soon enough…
He brings out another Light Glyph, activating and blinding Boscha again, causing her to stumble away, crying out in pain.
Luke: You lose sight of everything.
Boscha: Shut up!
With her vision back, Boscha loses sight of Luke, hears a whistle, and turns around to see him with a smirk as he is leaning against a wall with a leg crossed and hand in his pocket, still filming with the other. He takes out his free hand to perform a "come on" gesture with one finger, and that is enough to get under Boscha's skin.
Boscha: That's it!
Boscha ignites her fists in flames and charges at him, not knowing she is running into a trap. With one step, she looks at the ground, realizes that she has activated a plant glyph, and looks back up at Luke.
Boscha: I hate you so much.
Next thing they know, Boscha is screaming as she becomes wrapped up from her shoulders to her leggings in vines, causing her to drop down on her chest, growling in rage at Luke.
Luke: You make this too easy, B. But I'm gonna have to catch ya on the flip side, Triclops. Don't worry. I'll say that you got a little tied up.
Luke continues his walk to school, leaving a livid Boscha to try and untangle herself.
Boscha: Oh, very funny! You think you're so clever. Well, just as soon as I get out of these, you're dead, human! You hear me! YOU'RE DEAD! I'LL KILL YOU! I'LL LITERALLY KILL YOU!
Luke is now at Hexside, grinning in satisfaction at the screen.
Luke: Ah. Always satisfying. I always get a kick out of seeing Triclop's reaction every time I own her. Now, I know you're worried I'm making enemies here like I did back home, but this time, I'm making just as many friends, too. And sure, the Demon Realm is a little… insane, but there's no safer place than Hexside School of Magic and Demonics, right, Principal B?
Luke aims the camera at Bump, who straightens out and clears his throat.
Principal Bump: Why, yes. The well-being of our students is our top priority. Which is why we send all our troublemakers to our new and improved detention pit.
The camera pans to a guard dragging a screaming student to the door leading to the repaired Detention Pit.
Bird student: Aah! Please, no!
The door opens, and the guard then throws the student inside, leaving him to cry.
Bird student: Help me!
The door shuts, leaving the student to suffer a fate worse than death. And Principal Bump gives the double thumbs up, but Luke isn't amused.
Luke: Okay, I think we've seen enough.
Luke covers the lens with his hand and ends the recording. Convincing Camila that the Demon Realm isn't such a bad place just went from hard to impossible.
The Owl House Season 2B Intro
The eye of the old portal door opens, engulfed in flames.
Luke (with blue hair and his new outfit) drops down with Rebellion and a Glyph Gun, giving his gun a spin and swinging his sword as it opens, releasing electricity while he grins. Repede pops up from his shoulder.
Eda (in her new outfit) slides in from her right, spinning her Owl Staff and swinging to release energy. King pops up from her hair.
Willow emerges and lifts her arms as her eyes glow, summoning huge vines behind. Clover flies next to her.
Gus comes in with a book, summoning two illusions of himself striking poses beside him. Emmeline jumps onto his head.
Amity (with purple hair) twirls in from her right, and with a grin, her hands glow with purple energy, summoning Abomination goo. Ghost jumps onto her shoulder.
Lilith (in her new outfit and glasses) slides in from the left, spinning her Raven Staff and swinging to release energy like Eda did. Hooty pops out of her clock backpack.
Hunter (minus his mask, tunic, and cloak) Flash-steps from the left with his Cardinal Staff. It turns into Flapjack happily chirping as he draws and swings Yamato, striking a pose and releasing a blade of energy.
A Boiling Isle mural appears, with three windows flipping to briefly reveal Qrow, Darius, and Eberwolf. The windows flip to reveal Qrow in his Devil Form, Darius in his Abomination Form, and Eberwolf in his Beast Form.
Belos appears, striking a powerful pose, his castle behind him as lightning strikes.
Luke rides on his Wolf Staff like a surfboard, zooming past Bonesborough, flying past Tinella Nosa, sharing a high-five with Gus, Willow being beside him with a plant releasing vines and evading guards that chase him down. Eda and King join in on the fun, riding the Owl Staff. After getting high enough, Luke and Eda jump off, transforming into Devil Luke and Harpy Eda with Repede and King riding on them, respectively. They have a blast taking to the skies, even when they're chased by a massive, monstrous worm-like monster lunging at them.
Then the scene changes back to the Owl House, where it's night-time, and stars twinkle in the sky as the quartet is on the roof and looking up into the sky, Harpy Eda holding her staff beside her, Devil Luke holding Rebellion downward with Repede on one shoulder and King riding his other shoulder. Luke and Eda revert back to normal, and Luke, Repede, and King share a look together. Luke opens a hand, sending a ball of light floating into the sky, where it bursts to release a blinding flash.
The Owl House: The Son of Sparda
Outside the school building, Luke, Gus, and Willow are sitting on the staircase; the latter two converse about Belos and what he looks like under his mask. Repede rolls on his back, playing with Emmeline and Clover on the grass.
Gus: You know, I think he does it cause he's shy. He's just evil and shy. It happens.
Willow: I heard there's just a mirror underneath. She whispers. The real emperor was society all along.
Gus: Maybe he's so handsome people have a hard time focusing on what he says. I get it. I can relate.
They look to Luke, who's playing back his videos on his phone, forlorn. There's no way he can convince his mother to let him visit the Demon Realm like this. Which means he'd have no choice but to keep his promise and leave forever. He wouldn't be able to see his friends again.
Gus: Luke! Luke gets startled and hides his phone. You've seen Belos up close. What's he like under… all that?
Gus gestures his face, and Luke thinks.
Luke: You mean his face. Now that you mention it, I never got a good look.
Willow: But didn't you say you broke the emperor's mask when you fought him in the Conformatorium?
Luke: I only broke part of it. His face was still mostly covered even after I went devil, so I still couldn't see it. The only thing I could make out was his eye glowing blue. And not the good kind of blue. The creepy kind of blue. Other than that, I haven't seen his true face. Though, I'm pretty sure he hides it because he's incredibly ugly.
Amity suddenly appears out of nowhere beside Luke with a playful smile.
Amity: I heard he's scarred from wild magic.
Luke yelps in surprise and falls to the side, smiling in relief to see it's his girlfriend.
Luke: Oh. Heya, Amity.
Amity: Hola, Batato.
She helps Luke up and sits next to him.
Luke: Did you just call me a sweet potato?
Amity: Yes! Is that not a term of endearment? I'm still figuring out this human language book from Gus.
Amity shows Luke a cookbook titled "Mamá Pura's Recipes." Gus gives Amity two thumbs up and nods, causing Luke to stare at him, unimpressed.
Luke: Uh… Gus. While I appreciate the effort, this isn't a language book. It's a Spanish cookbook.
Amity becomes red with embarrassment.
Amity: Cookbook!? Gus!
Gus recoils at Amity's furious glare, laughing nervously and embarrassedly while Willow shakes her head.
Luke: Gus Porter, ladies and gentlemen! Claims to be an expert on the Human Realm, but wouldn't know its culture if it bit him in the leg.
Gus: Hey, I mess up on one thing. You don't have to be so mean about it.
Luke: I think you know that's not true.
Willow: Oh, come on, Luke. Be nice. He said he knows he messed up.
Gus: Yeah. I mean, how was I supposed to know it was a cookbook?
Luke: Oh, I don't know. Maybe by the pictures of food on the cover? Or the fact that the people on it are dressed as chefs?
There is an awkward silence as Amity and Willow deadpan at Gus for not even considering that.
Gus: In retrospect, I could've considered that possibility.
Ghost jumps down to the grass, where she's greeted by her fellow palismen. Luke and Amity both blush.
Amity: Sorry, I was trying to sound cute, but that ended up being weird, didn't it?
Luke: No, no! It's cool! I'm flattered. I just don't think "sweet potato" is the right fit for me. Luke wraps an arm around her, making her whole face turn red. Besides, you're the real sweet potato, hermosa. He guns her with a wink. That's Spanish for "Beautiful."
When Luke feels Amity's body, he can't feel any muscles on her and looks down, thinking about what he saw in Amity's secret workout room via the In-Between Realm.
(Flashback)
Luke remembers seeing Amity doing reps with a large barbell.
Then he's watching her flex her muscles, which makes him shut down like a robot.
(End of Flashback)
He can tell just by feeling and looking at her that her body's physique has reverted to its normal state, meaning Amity is able to adjust her body's musculature, obviously not wanting to attract too much attention and would like to surprise Luke with her new change.
Luke: "Probably best I keep my mouth shut about that. Wouldn't wanna embarrass my girlfriend."
Amity: Um… Luke, is something wrong?
Luke: Oh! No! Just, thinking about things. Uh… holding you is making me think about the stuff we're gonna do when I take you out on our first date. I'm wondering if we should do it here or in the Human Realm.
Amity turns redder from that but quickly changes the subject.
Amity: Uh, speaking of which… did that Titan Blood ever come in handy?
Willow: Did you finish building the door?
Gus: Did you visit your mom? Does she know about high-fives too?
Luke's eyes shrink in fear; he explained everything to Eda and King but not to his other friends, even his girlfriend.
Luke: Uh…
(Flashback)
Luke's mind flashes back to Camila crying as he is slowly pulled upwards, and she tries holding onto her son. The heartbroken look is unforgettable.
Camila: Promise me. When you come home, you'll stay with me, and you'll never go back to that place.
Luke: Mom, it's not you. It never was!
Camila: Please!
Luke: Okay, Mom… I promise.
(End of Flashback)
Luke becomes more anxious, not ready to fully explain what happened to anyone else. Luke moves away from Amity.
Luke: Uh… well, I did finish building the door. The Titan Blood did help, but… it didn't exactly work out the way I hoped.
Amity: This concerns his friends. It didn't work? Was there not enough Titan Blood?
Luke: No, I don't think it was that. The blood was enough. Something made it go wrong. It worked, and at the same time, it didn't work.
Gus: How… vague of you.
Willow: What happened, Luke? Were you able to get to the Human Realm or not?
Luke: Uh… no… I didn't. It's complicated.
Luke is saved by a hoot, and he looks up in time to see Eda and King flying towards him on the Owl Staff.
Luke: There's Eda. Time for me to bail. Luke stands up, clapping his hand. Come on, Repede. Repede?
Luke, Willow, Gus, and Amity watch as Repede is with Ghost, dancing on his front paws and then his hind legs right in front of her. He then spins on his back before striking a pose on all fours. He flirtatiously winks his eyebrows. That's right; a wolf pup is flirting with a cat, there's no mistaking that. In the Human Realm, there's no way a dog and cat would mate with each other. But when it comes to palismen in the Demon Realm, that unsurprisingly doesn't seem to apply. And from the looks of it, Repede's flirting is working. Ghost sheepishly blushes as she looks away, embarrassed yet flattered, finding Repede's flirting cute.
Ghost: Meow.
The Hex-Squad, even Luke, fawns over the adorable sight while Clover and Emmeline exchange looks.
Hex-Squad: Aww!
Willow: Palisman romance!
Amity: So cute!
Gus: Looks like you two rubbed off on them.
Luke: As much as I hate to ruin my dog's flirting, we need to get going. Luke whistles, catching Repede's attention. Luke pats his lap. Repede, here boy! Time for us to go.
Repede looks back to Ghost.
Repede: Woof!
He waves with his front paw before running to Luke.
Ghost: Meow.
Ghost waves back with her front paw, blushing. Repede jumps up onto Luke's arm, his owner petting him.
Luke: You dog. Has my crush on Amity rubbed off on you? Repede blushes and whines before riding Luke's shoulder. He gives his friends a two-fingered salute. Adios, amigos!
Luke gives Amity a kiss on the cheek, making her blush. Eda and King hover above the ground as Luke runs up; Repede turns into the Wolf Staff, which the hybrid catches and mounts. Luke and Eda fly away on their respective staffs into the skies.
Amity happily sighs, then looks down to see Ghost beside her.
Amity: Aww, Ghost. Did my crush on Luke rub off on you? Do you have a crush on Repede?
Ghost: Ghost looks away, blushing. Meow.
Amity: Amity gently scratches her chin. Aww. How cute! I think Repede has a crush on you, too.
Willow: Got to admit, it's still a little weird seeing Luke with a palisman.
Amity, Willow, and Gus smile together until the Youngest Blight notices Luke's phone left behind on the staircase. His video is displayed on the screen, causing Amity to worry.
Luke, Eda, and King fly towards Bonesborough on the Wolf and Owl Staff, respectively. The human boy has a nervous look, and Eda and King know what it's about.
King: Come on, Luke. There's no way your mom will make you leave the Demon Realm!
Eda: Yeah! When she meets us, I'll make sure to put on the charm…
Luke: Ew! No!
Eda: That turns people into obedient zombies.
Luke: You know that doesn't make it any better, right? And somehow, my first thought of what you meant was so much worse than the zombie thing.
Eda: Eda glares in annoyance. I'm only trying to help, you know? And what do you mean by your first thought… Eda widens her eyes, realizing what Luke meant. Oh, just got it. She glares at Luke again. Not funny. In fact, sometimes your comments hurt where it counts.
Luke: Luke just shrugs. I just tell it like it is.
Eda: You know, kid, you are just the worst. You know that, right? She sighs. Well, he's not too depressed to pick on me. So, that's good news… I guess.
Luke ignores that comment, looking off into the distance and still thinking about Camila.
The trio land in the market, and they all notice a lot of Coven Scouts walking around, setting up decorations and ignoring them. Luke and Eda hold their staffs.
Luke: Whoa. What's going on? Is there some kind of party?
King: They're probably prepping for the annual Coven Day Parade. Floats, streamers, fireworks–
Luke: Luke scoffs. Pfft. Please, it sounds like some fancy way to kiss the emperor's ass.
Eda: You got that right, kiddo. But, whatever, I'm just here to pick something up.
Eda walks off, with King following. Luke is about to follow, too, until he stops to see Kikimora speaking into a crow phone. And she's looking quite desperate and anxious.
Kikimora: Mother, please! No, I'm not seeing anyone. Yes, I'm standing up straight. Listen, I can't come home. If I don't lead this parade, Belos will end my– No! No, of course I miss everybody. I... What? I can't choose! Hello? Mother? Mother?
Seeing Kikimora having issues with his mother reminds Luke of his own family issues, and he stares at the gremlin in pity. Repede reverts back to normal, landing on Luke's shoulder.
Repede: Woof! Woof!
Luke: I know I should tell them, Repede. But I'm just not sure I can.
Repede: Woof!
Luke: Yeah, I know they're my friends, and I trust them with my life. But Amity, Willow, and Gus were looking so happy for me. The last thing I want is for them to worry over my own family drama. They wouldn't understand. And I don't want to drag my friends into my issues like that, especially Amity. They've already been in enough danger because of me.
Luke runs off to join Eda and King. They are in front of a stand called Private Inspectergator. Luke looks down, melancholy, and Repede jumps onto the booth.
King: Hey, Luke! I know what'll cheer you up.
Luke: Sorry, little bro. Not in the mood for bread puns today.
King: What? No. I'm talkin' about hot goss, man! The stand owner hands over a file to Eda, and King jumps onto the booth. Hot goss buns. Bread pun. Guess why we're here!
Eda: King?
Luke Luke gives a blank look. Let me guess. Eda hired someone to spy on somebody to get dirt on Belos?
King: I don't know about Belos, but how could you have guessed that?
Luke: Psychic powers. Both widen their eyes in surprise. Nah, I'm just kiddin'. He points to the sign. I just know how to read. On that note: A private investigator with a stand just out in the open? People here aren't big on subtlety, are they?
Eda and King cringe a little.
King: Yeah… we may have to work on that. And on that note… Eda hired someone to spy on her ex!
Eda: Eda gasps, blushing in embarrassment. Did you read my diary?!
King: And they're Head Witch of the Bard Coven!
Eda: Eda covers her ears, pacing. Stop it! Stop it, stop it!
King: And they also–
Eda: Eda angrily shouts in King's face. Yes! They secretly led a rebel group against the emperor and got captured! I was there!
King: Ooh. I didn't read that far.
Luke's mouth is agape in disbelief before he falls on his back. Repede jumps down to lick him awake.
Eda: Well, good job. You broke Luke.
King: It was the… yeast I could do.
After waking back up, Luke is reading from the file handed to Eda with Repede back on his shoulder. It has details about Raine, a summary, and pictures of their life and current status.
Luke: Hey, I remember them! Wasn't this Raine guy part of your old friend group in Hexside?
Eda: Yup. They were. Raine became the 5th member of our group before your mom.
Luke: I didn't know you and them were dating.
Eda: We used to date, but, well… we broke it off years ago because of my curse.
Luke: And yet you still inspired them. He looks back at the folder. So, let me get what happened. While King and I were having our race, you and Raine led a rebellion against the emperor; they fought their fellow Coven Heads, including my uncle, and sacrificed themselves to save you? Damn, talk about hardcore! Congrats on the badass catch, E. I'm surprised, despite your… quirks, there's been someone who would stand up to Belos for you besides me. You know I've always been interested in every part of your life but not your love life or lack thereof. Especially since I'm not fond of old people romance. Blech.
Eda: Eda grabs the folder back from Luke. Okay. 1, old!? I told you it's the curse that made my hair grey! 2, rude! And 3, I'm gonna ignore the "quirks" jab. Anyway, according to this, Raine is still working with the Emperor's Coven which doesn't make sense. They were seen as a traitor!
Luke: Why not ask your old buddy/my uncle Qrow about it?
Eda: I would, but I can only really speak with Qrow when he shows himself to me.
Luke: Then, maybe you can ask Raine about it. Look!
Luke points to a Coven Day Parade billboard, which has an image of Raine on it, surely meaning they're going to be at the Coven Day Parade.
Eda: If they're here for the parade, they'll probably be surrounded by scouts. Oh, we'd need someone on the inside to lend us a hand.
An idea comes to King's mind.
King: Like maybe...
Luke: Nope.
King: But-
Luke: NOOO!
King: Oh, come on! I didn't even say his name!
Luke: There's no need! His name begins with a 'H' and ends with an 'R.' And, no, I didn't read your mind; it was a logical guess.
King: Okay, it's understandable that you and... What was his name again? Hunter? Luke nods. It's clear you two don't see eye to eye. But you said yourself that you don't get a bad vibe from him, given how you told us how you two practically bonded and worked together to save those Palismen in Latissa.
Eda: Yeah, so I don't get why you don't like him.
Luke: Hey, you don't like him either.
Eda: True.
Luke: On one hand, you're right, and helping me save those Palismen earned him some cred. On the other hand, as much as I don't get a bad vibe from him, that doesn't mean I'm gonna trust the guy right away. He's more loyal to Belos than anyone else. And in case you forgot, he broke my combat winning streak, stole my catchphrase, pummelled my girlfriend, helped Belos torture her, stabbed me in the chest, used King to blackmail me, and left you guys and Amity for dead with the fool's blood thing at the Knee.
King: Okay, I see where you're getting at.
Luke: Add all that to the fact his voice is weird, he has a twisted sense of humour, his hairstyle's whack, and he's got a violent streak.
Eda: Eda and King exchange sly grins. Emperor's lapdog aside, it sounds to me like you two might have more in common with each other than you think.
Luke's eyes go devil black.
Luke: Shut up!
Eda yelps, holding up King as a shield, both frightened.
King: You know you're proving her point, right?
Luke thinks about it, and his eyes change back to normal, exchanging a look with Repede, who shrugs. He's unable to deny he and Hunter share similarities: they were both adopted, they're both struggling to figure out their own futures, they both have a tendency to taunt their enemies, their fighting prowess and their ability to transform into devils based on what Eda, King, and Amity had told him.
Luke: Okay, I'll admit we may have SOME similarities. But that's it! Anyway, we can't rely on Hunter's help. We'll need someone else. Someone in the Emperor's Coven who looks like they're stressed out.
Luke then sees Kikimora, who trips over a plank of wood. Two coven scouts holding a pipe together walk over her. Luke leans on the booth, crosses his arms, and smiles widely. Eda snorts, dismissing his idea.
Eda: Yeah, right. As if she'd give us the time of day.
A couple minutes later, Luke is sitting with Kikimora, consoling her as she cries her eyes out. Eda leans against the wall unamused, King is sitting nearby, and the Wolf and Owl Staffs are placed against the wall.
Kikimora: And–and then she said if I don't make it back for the family reunion, I'd be banished from Palm Stings and the family home! But I've failed too many missions, and if I leave my job now, I'll be banished from my life!
Kikimora cries louder, and Luke pats her.
Luke: Hey, don't cry. It's okay that you're useless and no one loves you. Maybe there's a way we can help each other out–whoa!
Eda grabs Luke and hoists him off the ground, looking him dead in the eye.
Eda: Are you out of your mind? Kikimora nearly turned me to stone. She attacked you back in Latissa, and she didn't blink when your girlfriend was thrown down a pit! Oh, she is bad, and not the hot kinda bad.
Luke: Eda, I know when someone is a liar. And I can tell right now Kikimora isn't lying. She wants to be with her family and at the same time keep her job. If we help her with her family drama, she'll help us in return. This could be your one chance to talk to Raine! Isn't it worth the risk?
Eda: Maybe. But what're you getting out of this?
Luke looks toward Kikimora, pacing around anxiously.
Kikimora: On the one hand, I miss my family. On the other, Belos is not a forgiving man. But I'm just a party planner at this point...
The truth is, Luke just feels pity for Kikimora. Both are in similar situations with their mothers. If he can help mend things between Kiki and her mother, then maybe there might be hope for Luke.
Luke: Look, I just… want some hope, okay? Eda stops frowning. Things went real badly between me and my mom. If I can help someone else with their family drama, maybe there might be hope for me, too… even if that someone is an unlikable piece of crap like Kikimora. You get where I'm coming from?
Eda's face softens, understanding Luke's situation. She had problems with her own mother that took 30 years to resolve. The last thing she wants is for Luke and Camila to have the same rift between them. As risky as this is, Eda wants her apprentice/child to feel hopeful.
Eda: Yeah. I get where you're coming from, kid. Eda stands up again. Ugh, fine!
Kikimora: Fine? What's fine? What are you cretins planning?
Luke: No need to worry, Kiki. We're gonna help you see your family and keep your job… by kidnapping you and Raine!
Everyone: What?!
Later, near night, Luke, Eda, and King are getting the equipment needed to pull off their plan.
Eda pulls a sheet out from a trash can instead of buying it from a booth. She sniffs it, groans in disgust, but takes it anyway.
Luke is purchasing several potions from Morton. Luke takes his leave with an entire sack of them.
Luke: Thanks, Mort!
Hooty goes to Morton. He regurgitates several coins and the skeleton of a small animal into Morton's hand, much to his disgust and horror.
Hooty: Keep the change!
Luke walks past King and Edric, the latter wearing a black trench coat.
Edric: I call it the "Ed Ricochet 11." Edric pulls a large firework rocket out from his coat. That's how many times I was sent to the Healing Coven.
King: Ooh! Wait, are these legal?
Edric: Would that make you more or less interested in buying them?
King: Hmm.
Couple minutes later, King chuckles as he walks through the forest with an arm's load of fireworks. He reaches Luke, Eda, and Hooty, who are working to construct a parade float. Luke and Eda are holding their respective staffs.
Luke: Nice work, gang. King sets the fireworks down. Let's go over the plan one more time. King and Hooty will pilot the float during the parade. Once it gets to the halfway point, you two will set off all the glyphs, potions, and fireworks to distract people.
King: With my love of mayhem and Hooty's desperate need for attention, this'll be a cake walk!
Luke: Luke fans out three glyphs. When Kikimora sends off the guards to investigate, that's when Eda and I will obscure the stage and whisk her and Raine away. Luke's tone becomes slightly frantic. The Coven can't banish Kiki if she's missing! She'll get the best of both worlds! She'll set an example for us all! She'll set an example for ME!
Eda, King, and Hooty all stare at Luke, the former being slightly worried.
Luke: Uh… and Eda gets to talk to Raine. It's romantic! Hooray!
Eda: Eda blushes. Oh, it's not that romantic.
Hooty: Witch, this is peak of Mount Romance.
King: Hooty, what would you know?
Hooty: I've been around!
Luke riffles through his pockets for his phone but can't find it.
Luke: Huh. Must've left my phone at the Owl House. Meh. Oh well.
The next morning, Willow is in her room working out, her hair in a bun, grunting as she repeatedly lifts a pair of heavy dumbbells, flexing her biceps as she does. A knock on her door is heard, and she goes to answer it, wiping sweat off her face. She becomes surprised to see that the person outside her door is Amity, who is sheepishly holding Luke's phone.
Willow: Amity!
Amity: Uh… hey, Willow. It's… uh… been a while… since I came here… on my own.
Willow: Yeah. I guess it has…
This is very awkward for Willow and Amity. This is the first time Amity has visited Willow's house ever since the youngest Blight broke off their friendship. And the girls are realizing right now that although they're friends again, they haven't hung out together personally since they patched their friendship.
Willow then notices the concern on Amity's face.
Willow: Are you okay?
Amity barges into the room, startling Willow.
Amity: So, Luke has been acting super weird, and I think he's lying about his trip to the Human Realm, and he left his phoon… uh… phun? Ugh, his thingy at school, and–
Amity drops onto Willow's bed and screams into the sheets in frustration. Willow walks up, confused.
Willow: You need to slow down for me.
Amity: Amity sits up, facing Willow. Luke says he hasn't been to the Human Realm, but I just get the feeling that he's lying. And I can find out the truth by watching this! She presents the video displayed on Luke's phone. But I'm not gonna invade his privacy like that. Would you?
Willow: Willow shrugs, doing a 50-50 gesture. Mmm-mm.
Amity: Amity giggles. Willow.
Willow frightens Amity, sternly walking up and pointing at her.
Willow: Listen, Blight, if you want my advice, there's something you have to do for me first...! She smiles again. Do you still know how to braid hair?
She sits down, turning away from Amity and tapping her feet expectantly. Amity chuckles.
Amity: Okay. But I am a little rusty.
Amity undoes Willow's bun, letting her hair down, and begins braiding it while deeply smiling, having missed doing these things with her best friend.
Amity: I'm glad we can be like this again.
Willow looks down with a deep smile, feeling the same. The girls have taken another step to mend their friendship completely.
Kikimora is standing in the market; the Coven Scouts are still making preparations for the parade. Darius and Eberwolf lead the Scouts in organizing things. Kikimora sighs, doubtful about Luke's plan.
Kikimora: This isn't going to work. I can't believe I let them talk me into this.
Raine: Who talked you into what?
Kikimora is surprised to find Raine Whispers standing in front of her.
Kikimora: R-Raine? H-How long have you been there? Shouldn't you be practicing your… um… parade wave?
Raine: Raine sits down with Kiki, groaning. You know I hate these things. Talking to people. Waving to people. People. They both shudder, and then Raine smiles. But I'm just happy to do my part.
Kikimora: You seem so much more calm than before.
Last time Kikimora and Raine spoke, the former had subdued the latter after finding out they were leading raids against the Emperor's Coven. She hasn't seen them since. Her answer to Raine's change in condition is answered when a woman appears right in front of them from plants emerging from the ground.
Terra: Oh, why wouldn't they be? They were sick for a while, but thanks to me, they're good as new!
This woman is none other than Terra Snapdragon, Head Witch of the Plant Coven, much to Kikimora's horror.
Kikimora: T-Terra! And what brings you out of your greenhouse, Head Witch?
Raine: Terra's been helping me recover. I can't remember anything with these… headaches.
Raine winces, clutching their head. Terra bends down, offering Raine a drinking horn.
Terra: Here, sprout. Drink your tea.
Terra drops a flower into the tea, turning the liquid pink. Raine then takes a sip, no one hearing a slight whistling from them.
Terra: There you go. Raine and Terra walk off together. Now, you're gonna get on top of that float and wave to thousands of chumps all night. Remember to lead with your elbow.
Raine: I'm on it.
Terra: Now, where is Qrow? I have business to discuss with him, too.
Darius walks over with Eberwolf on his shoulder, pointing over to something.
Darius: He's over there.
Qrow is sitting down on a chair by the table, having drunk a full bottle of beer. He's laid back, giving a slurred laugh, having gone drunk… again. The other three Coven Heads walk over, deadpanning at this unprofessional sight.
Terra: Qrow. Are you drunk again?
Qrow: Maybe…
Qrow chuckles and fidgets before falling back, unconscious but smiling. Darius facepalms, Raine groans, Eberwolf laughs and points at Qrow, and Terra is merely bemused.
Darius: Titan help us.
Kikimora stands away from them, hidden with a look of panic. Terra is one of the most experienced Coven Heads; she could easily figure out and ruin Luke's plan.
Kikimora: Terra could ruin everything!
Kikimora starts dialling on her crow phone to call Luke but is interrupted by Terra, who appears in front of her with a dangerous grin.
Terra: You're not trying to leave, are you? She holds out her hand. Come. The parade is about to begin.
Meanwhile, at Blight Manor, Amity is in her secret workout room (in her workout clothes), training intensely again.
Amity: I need to bulk up. Keep getting stronger. Can't let Luke have a weakling as his girlfriend.
She sweats and grunts heavily as she does bench presses, lifting a barbell with heavy metal balls attached and her chest and biceps pumping with each rep.
Amity: 997… 998… 999… 1000!
Veins appear on her forehead, neck, and chest as she does her last rep.
Next, Amity is doing squats with an even heavier barbell, grunting and growling with each rep as sweat drips from her face and arms, her back muscles constantly flexing.
Amity: 1994… 1996… 1997… 1998… 1999… 2000!
Amity tosses the barbell over her head, and it bangs on the floor while she stands in front, panting and letting her muscles pump.
After that, Amity is doing one-armed push-ups with a huge ball made of solid Abomination goo lying on her back, sweat dripping from her forehead onto the mat as her muscular body is covered in veins.
Amity: 3491… 3492… 3493… 3494…!
Amity's face is close to the floor, her biceps and back growing as sweat drips from her face.
Amity: Just… 5 more to go! 3495… 3496… 3497… 3498… 3499… 3500!
Amity holds up her last reps, veins appearing on her arms and face while she growls in agony.
Next, Amity is doing bicep curls with an even heavier barbell with larger metal balls. She breathes in pain, her biceps flexing and pumping to the point of explosion with each rep.
Amity: 3996… 3997… 3998… 3999…
Amity struggles with her last rep, grunting and growling in pain.
Amity: Come on! Just... one more pump!
She flexes her biceps as hard as she can and curls.
Amity: 4000! AAAH!
Amity is suspended above the floor, Abomination goo tied to her ankles as she does inverted sit-ups with a normal rope tied around her, holding a metal pole. She gives agonized breaths with each rep she does.
Amity: 4993… 4994… 4995… 4996… 4997… Amity's muscles bulge uncontrollably, veins rippling as she groans. I need to get to 5000! She growls, lifting herself up. 4998… 4999… 5000!
Amity holds her final rep, flexing her back muscles as she does.
Lastly, Amity is pummelling a punching bag with punches and kicks, all resounding like a shotgun, and that keeps making the bag swing back and forth. Judging by two more punching bags behind, one which has a hole torn through it and another that's been split in half, Amity has been at this for a long time and has let out a lot of frustration. She doesn't let up, furiously pounding the bag, ignoring the searing pain building up in her knuckles, clenching her teeth, sweat beading on and flying off her body. Her strikes keep getting stronger, faster, and harder as she hammers away at the bag and lets out louder and angrier grunts. At the same time, the burning pain in her knuckles keeps building, but that only makes her angrier and punch harder. With a scream and one final punch, a hole is torn through the bag as its chain snaps off, and it's sent flying, sand spewing in the process. Amity sweats and breathes heavily, her muscles pumping as she keeps her fists outstretched while the broken punching bag lies on the floor.
When she finally calms down, her legs wobble, and she drops onto her knees, giving agonized breaths as sweat drips from her face.
Amity: So… tired…
A few minutes later, Amity is sitting on a bench with a towel wrapped around her neck, still sweating and panting in exhaustion.
Emira: At it again, huh?
Amity turns her head to see Emira slyly leaning against the wall with her arms crossed.
Amity: Oh, hey, Em. She stands up, wiping her face with the towel. Yeah, I needed to vent for a bit.
Emira walks up to her younger sister.
Emira: A bit? You've been at this for 3 hours.
Amity wraps her towel around her neck again.
Amity: Really? Wow… I didn't realize that much time went by.
Emira takes hold of Amity's arm, feeling her bicep.
Emira: I still can't get over how hard these muscles are. She feels her abs and shoulders. Jeez, you're ripped. Our little Mittens isn't so little anymore.
With a smirk, Amity shows off and flexes her biceps.
Amity: Hey, I'm still trying to get used to this new body, too.
She keeps grunting and bending her arms, flexing her biceps and her pecs.
Amity: I've never cared about having muscles like this until after Eclipse Lake. Now, I can't stop myself from wanting more.
Emira: You sure you didn't get bitten by a workout bug?
Amity: I think I'd know if that actually happened.
The girls share a small laugh.
Emira: You know, I still remember Ed fainting when we both saw your new muscles.
(Flashback)
Emira and Edric walk down the hall until they notice Amity's door is ajar. Being nosy siblings, the two poke their heads through the door, only to be met with shock at what they're seeing.
Their youngest sister has a ripped physique, flexing in front of a mirror in her workout clothes. Amity grunts heavily, striking double biceps pose, side chest pose, back pose, and abs pose. She finishes up flexing her maximum muscle mass; veins appear all over her body as she groans heavily before giving a satisfied smirk… until she sees through the mirror, her door open completely with her siblings staring at her with hilarious expressions. Amity shouts in surprise, turning to her siblings whose eyes and mouths were agape in astonishment, their pupils shrunk.
Amity: What are you two doing here!?
The Blight Twins say nothing, still speechless. Amity waves her hands in panic.
Amity: Ed, Em, wait! I can explain! I think…
The Blight Twins are still speechless, and Edric faints on his back.
(End of Flashback)
The girls chuckle over the hilarious flashback.
Amity: And that's exactly why I had my own secret workout room ready.
Emira: I'm surprised. Despite all that muscle, you've got no problem staying lean, sis.
Amity: I probably have my acrobatics training to thank for that.
Emira: So… have you told a certain gogglehead about this yet?
Under her sister's teasing look and the mention of Luke, Amity blushes and smiles sheepishly.
Amity: Not yet. I'm waiting for the right moment.
Emira: Try not to wait too long. Luke's gonna be drooling when he sees this.
Amity: Just thinking about it is making me so red. But for now, I'd rather we keep this secret between us.
Amity takes a deep breath, and her physique reverts to her normal slender figure.
Emira: Well, that's convenient. Anyway, I guess you'll want to shower now.
Amity: Yeah. I worked up a sweat. Is my battle coat all fixed up?
Emira: Almost. Should be ready by the time you finish.
Amity: Okay. I'll meet you in my room later.
Sometime after, Amity is taking a shower in the bathroom, washing her body and then her hair.
Fifteen minutes later, she comes out of the bathroom wearing her usual clothes and with a towel wrapped around her head with a look of satisfaction.
Amity: That's better. I feel so refreshed.
Amity walks down the corridor. She stops near her parents' door, which is slightly open. She hears her mother talking and peeks through, seeing Odalia speaking on a crow phone to Alador.
Odalia: I trust you have an update for me, Alador.
Alador: The materials provided to me by the Emperor's Coven have been quite useful. I've made progress with the Abomatons. The next batch should be ready for shipping to the Emperor's Castle in a couple days.
Amity widens her eyes; having had no idea the emperor was buying her parents' Abomatons.
Odalia: Excellent! And what of our secret project?
Alador: I've made a fair amount of progress with that. But I'll need more time before it's fully ready and some more funding and materials to make it fully functional.
Odalia: Keep at it. The Emperor's Coven will send more funds for our research in a couple days. The emperor wants all of our Abomatons to provide security when the Day of Unity comes.
Alador: Amity lowers her eyebrows in suspicion. Strange that they need an entire army for security.
Odalia: Odalia puts her feet up, placing them on her desk. I admit it's a little bizarre, but whatever the emperor wishes to do with our products is none of our business. Keep me updated, hon.
She hangs up and looks to the door, having felt as though someone was watching her, but seeing no one there, she shrugs off her concerns.
Emira is in Amity's room fixing up Amity's battle coat, which was slightly damaged at Eclipse Lake. After finishing, she holds up the coat, giving a look of accomplishment.
Emira: Perfect.
She hears the door open and looks to see Amity walking in, removing her towel and elegantly letting her hair free.
Amity: Is it ready?
Emira: Just finished it. Emira presents the coat. Your battle coat's all fixed up. The Owl Lady was kind enough to lend me some new materials. It's stronger than the last one I made.
Amity: Perfect! Amity takes the coat. Thanks, sis.
Emira: Don't mention it. Just… do me a favour and try not to lose this one like you did with the first one. So, mind telling me the special occasion?
Amity: Well… call it a girlfriend's intuition, but… I just have this really bad feeling Luke's going to pull off another one of his idiotic stunts during the Coven's Day Parade, so, I-
Emira: So, you wanna be there for him like the "awesome girlfriend" you're striving to be. That about right?
Amity: Amity blushes, smiling sheepishly. Yeah. Pretty much.
Emira: Aww. Don't be so embarrassed, Mittens. It's sweet you wanna be there for Luke. It's even cuter to see you two dating. We're happy for you, sis, we really are.
Amity: Thanks.
Emira worries when she sees her little sister's face drop as she brings out her boyfriend's phone.
Emira: Is there something on your mind, sis?
Amity: Yeah.
Emira: You wanna talk about it?
Amity: You wouldn't really understand.
Emira: Emira motions for Amity to sit next to her. Try me.
Amity: Amity sits down, handing over the phone. Luke says he hasn't been to the Human Realm, but… I can't help but feel he's lying to me. I just know the answer is in this… device of his. But after a talk with Willow, I don't wanna violate his privacy. But I do want to understand why he's lying to us. Why's he lying to ME?
Seeing Amity's lips trembling a little, Emira places a hand on her shoulder.
Emira: He probably just doesn't want you to worry. You know how guys are, always trying to be tough. Luke just wants to stay strong for you. I mean, you know how he is.
Amity: I know, but… he doesn't have to be like that around me all the time. She smiles, blushing. I mean, sure, his tough-guy attitude is charming. But it's okay for him to be vulnerable around me. I'm his girlfriend.
Emira: Having a girlfriend must be pretty new to him, Mittens. Amity gives Emira a surprised look. I mean, he's told us he's had a rough life in the Human Realm. He never had any friends there. And he and his mom could never see eye to eye. He's probably never had to tell anyone about his problems. It must be hard for him to open up to others over his emotional baggage. And right now, he probably doesn't want to worry you with his problems.
Amity looks down, thinking about her sister's words, seeing she has a point. Her boyfriend had no one to discuss his problems in his own realm. He's been alone for most of his life. His violent streak, exotic expressions and snarky attitude rendered him unable to make friends, thus he had no one to open up to about his feelings other than his foster mother. Plus, feelings in general are something Luke seems to prefer to avoid expressing too much. He could tell there's been moments he wanted to cry, but always stopped himself from letting out those emotions. The way he keeps his worries hidden from others… it reminds Amity of how she used to be after being forced to break of her friendship with Willow.
Amity: Yeah. You're right. Amity clutches her knees. He's like me. I remember when I had a hard time opening up to everyone about my problems… Amity smiles fondly. Until I met Luke. He's the only one I let myself be vulnerable around. He's the only one who could break down the wall I put up in front of my feelings. Because of him, I'm happy. That's why I wanna help him. I want to help him cope with whatever he's dealing with. I know he doesn't want me to worry, but I'm already worried about him. I want to help him like he's helped me.
Emira: Emira wraps an arm around her. Then tell him that. Tell him how worried you are, how much you care, and how much you want to help. Get him to open up like he did with you.
Amity looks down again, letting her sister's words sink in before smiling with a nod.
Emira: Chin up, sis, everything's gonna be okay. Now, let's get you ready. Emira gets up, walking over to Amity's bookshelf. The parade's gonna start in 30 minutes, so you'd better get prepared.
She slightly removes a book, causing part of a wall to split open. Amity walks into her secret room, similar to the one in the library, but at the end of the room, on display is the rest of Amity's battle outfit, which she stands in front of before reaching out for it.
At the Owl House, on display in Eda's weaponry room, is Luke's battle outfit and coat, which he also stands in front of. He reaches out for it.
(Split Screen)
Luke zips up his battle vest & Amity wraps her black crop top around her.
Luke and Amity wrap on their black armbands.
Luke stomps the floor, having put on his boots & Amity lifts a leg up, stretching into her boots.
Luke and Amity put on their coats, moving their arms through the sleeves.
Luke places his signature goggles on & Amity attaches her jar to her belt.
Night has come, and the parade has started. Confetti flies over a float, and a bird honks as the Illusion Coven has a bunch of things going on. Suddenly, all of that disappeared as it was, of course, an illusion, revealing the Guardian of the Looking Glass Graveyard, who is rocking in a chair, eating a sandwich. He flinches in surprise and makes himself disappear into doves.
Music blasts off as Eda jumps across a roof, followed by Luke.
Eda wears a cloak, and Luke has donned his battle outfit and coat, wearing his blue cloak over them.
While this is going on, two people are inside the pub: Kevin and Qrow. The latter is sitting down on a seat, grumpily drinking from a cup, while Kevin is standing in front of him, cleaning an empty cup and watching the parade on the nearby crystal ball. Qrow gives it quick glances of disdains, as this day is his least favourite of the year.
Kevin: Wow. Lot of witches and demons at the parade today. More than last year.
Qrow: Hmph.
Kevin: Shouldn't you be at the parade?
Qrow: I'm not a fan of noisy crowds.
Back at the parade, the Abomination float goes past the citizens, with abominations on the ground leading it and Darius standing on it, waving at the people of Bonesborough.
Eberwolf does the same on the Beast float.
Raine is playing their instrument, smiling and waving nervously. They wave their bow at people, and Kikimora rides the Bard float.
Luke and Eda look over a roof and see Raine.
Luke: There's your ex. It's showtime.
Eda: Is that our float?
At the rear is a larger-than-life effigy of Emperor Belos.
Luke: Not bad, right?
King and Hooty operate the float from inside. They cause the effigy to wink and make finger guns. The crowd is silent at first but then cheers in response.
Bystander: It's a work of art!
Luke: That was the signal!
Eda: Let's move.
Eda jumps off the roof.
Luke: Roger that. Luke-out trouble!
Luke jumps off next.
Kikimora is checking the time on her watch.
King and Hooty also do so, counting down the seconds.
King and Hooty: Four! Three! Two–
Hooty and King pull a lever, launching fireworks from the float's one open eye. The other floats stop in track. Raine, Kikimora, and the crowd watch as the fireworks explode into the words "BELOS, more like BOO-LOS!"
The crowd gasps in shock, Raine groans in annoyance with this disrespect, and Darius and Eberwolf are surprised.
At the pub, Qrow is scrolling through his Penstagram account and seeing multiple posts. He groans when he ends up finding Odalia, positing a pic of herself.
The1Nonly_Odalia:
Can you believe Titan created such a beautiful creature? #WHOSTHESELLOUTNOW
Qrow is bemused by this post and her sad attempt to insult him.
Qrow: Oh, for the love of…! Mute.
After muting notifications from her, he looks to the crystal ball with Kevin, watching the commotion made by Luke's float. Kevin is stunned by what just occurred, and Qrow holds in a snicker.
Kevin: What was that!?
Qrow: Trouble, no doubt.
Qrow finishes his drink and slaps it down before tossing some snails onto the desk.
Qrow: Happy Coven Day!
Kevin watches a drunk Qrow make his way out of the pub, a little wobbly from all the drinks that he's about to work off. Kevin proceeds to pick up a cup, only to knock one over with his elbow, much to his disdain.
Kevin: Aww. Gee, darn it.
After the fireworks, the scouts look to Kikimora.
Coven Scout: Should we, uh… do something about that?
Kikimora: Yes, of course, you hangnails! I command all of you to investigate!
The scouts run off. While they're distracted, Luke and Eda appear behind the Bard float, having used an Invisibility Glyph. Master and Apprentice set off smoke glyphs, engulfing the Bard float. Kikimora gets off her float so that Luke can scoop her up.
Luke: And scoop!
Kikimora: Ooh! I cannot believe we are being taken against our will. What sayeth you, fiend?
Luke: Uh… yeah! I, Azure, will whisk you away to my kingdom of… bloodthirsty wolves!
Amity, who is in the parade crowd wearing a cloak over her battle outfit, recognizes Luke's voice. She facepalms, letting out an exasperated sigh at Luke's bad acting.
Luke notices Kikimora deadpanning.
Luke: Hey, don't give me that look. I didn't know I had to prepare lines.
Raine walks up behind, about to cast a spell, until Eda uses a plant glyph to tie up and gag Raine in vines. She slings Raine over her shoulder.
Eda: Knock it off, you two. Let's get crackin'.
Eda disappears with an invisibility glyph.
Luke: Roger that.
Luke disappears, too, with the same Glyph.
Luke runs into an alleyway, and Amity follows his shadow, removing her hood.
Standing on the roof is Hunter (in full mask and uniform), who has witnessed them both running into the alleyway. He jumps down to pursue.
King happily witnesses the successful escape.
King: Mission success, Hooty!
The Scouts surround their float, casting spell circles and aiming them like guns.
King: Now, how do we get outta here?
Hooty: We're gonna have to be sneaky.
Hooty uses his elongated body to lift the effigy of Belos, much to everyone's shock and horror.
Hooty: Hi! It's me! Your good buddy Belos! Worship me!
Coven Scout: Kill that monstrosity!
Hooty: Not the first time I've heard that! Hoo-hoo-hoo-hoot! Ha!
Under Hooty's control, the effigy begins hopping away.
Coven Scout: Get him!
Eberwolf jumps down, growling viciously as he unleashes his Beast Form, giving a ferocious roar as he leaps off his float and summons his Ratworm, riding it and pointing the Scouts towards Hooty, giving chase with them, not noticing a barrel shaking.
When they're out of sight, Eda and Raine reappear in an alley just as the scouts pass. Eda undoes the vines that are tying Raine and hugs them in joy.
Eda: Raine, I'm so glad you're okay!
Raine: Raine pulls away. Eda? What're you doing here?
Eda: I had to make sure you were okay after that fight with Qrow, Darius, and Eber.
Raine: What fight?
Eda: It was just a few weeks ago. I was with you.
Raine: Eda, I spent the last month sick in bed. And we... we haven't spoken in years.
Eda gasps in shock, hurt by how Raine is behaving and talking. It seems like their memory of meeting again, and all those raids have been changed somehow.
Raine: Listen, I don't know what you want with me. But I'm Head of a Coven now. And I can't associate with wild witches anymore. So, move aside.
This isn't the Raine she knows, the Raine she loves. Refusing to leave her beloved after coming this far, Eda brings out a Plant Glyph.
Eda: No.
Eda drops the glyph and activates it with her foot, causing a barrier of vines to form, trapping her and Raine together, her Owl Staff by her side.
Eda: I'm not leaving till I get through to you.
Seeing there's no escape, Raine summons their violin and bow.
Raine: Fine. We can do this the hard way.
Raine brings up their violin and bow, and Eda, her staff, tossing her cloak away. Both get ready to fight.
Hooty can be heard laughing in the distance as he sends out more fireworks, and Luke runs down an alleyway holding Kikimora, reappearing.
Luke: Woo-hoo! I can't believe my plan's actually working!
Kikimora: We're visible? We need to disappear again! If we're caught, she will end us!
Luke: Who will?
The ground cracks, and massive vines erupt, prompting Luke and Kikimora to hide behind a cart. They watch a huge Venus flytrap plant sprout.
Kikimora: Head Witch of the Plant Coven.
The plant's mouth opens to reveal Terra sitting down like a queen.
Kikimora: Terra Snapdragon.
Luke: It's just some old lady.
Kikimora: Do not underestimate her; Terra is one of the most powerful and wisest Coven Heads alive. Even with your devil powers, you can't underestimate her.
The effigy of Belos, controlled by Hooty, is still being chased.
Hooty: Law is meaningless! Stealing is legal now!
Explosions occur, and now the scouts are the ones running away, and Hooty chases them.
Hooty: I am your god!
Eberwolf's ratworm blocks Hooty, and the beastly Coven Head leaps off with a roar, lunging at the effigy.
While this happens, Luke and Kikimora are hidden from Terra. As much as Luke would like to knock this Coven Head's teeth in, he can't risk exposing Kiki.
Terra: Oh, my word. Where could Kiki have gone? The two exchange looks, knowing Terra is onto them. Such a valued member of the coven must be found post haste! A fly buzzes past Terra. Have you seen her, little fly? Terra crushes the fly with a mini flytrap. Guess not.
Luke draws an Invisibility Glyph on a leaf, and Kikimora gets on his back. He takes a deep breath, disappears, and goes on the move.
Terra: What a shame that Kikimora would disappear… She knowingly grins. And right before her promotion. Kikimora yelps, and Luke knocks over a bottle. Terra looks in their direction. All the missions she would have led, the shiny new badge, the respect.
She traces a spell circle, bringing up a large vine and aiming it.
Terra: Ah, well. Guess we'll have to find someone else!
Terra shoots the spiked vine toward Luke and Kikimora's position. At the last moment, the vine stops, and Terra is annoyed to see she's being held back by an Abomination. Luke and Kikimora reappear right in front of the vine, and Luke lets Kiki down, motioning her to hide.
Terra: Hmm. Another pest...
Terra smashes the Abomination with another vine.
Luke: Hey, Grandma Flytrap! Terra looks to Luke, who aims his Glyph Guns in Combo Mode. Here's a little retirement gift!
Luke fires a beam of ice from his combined gun, prompting Terra to bring up massive vines to block, but when the beam makes contact, it spreads between the walls, forming a strong wall of ice.
Luke: That won't hold her for long; we gotta move now!
Luke picks up Kikimora and runs for it before Terra can break through. As they flee, Amity runs up next to them.
Luke: Hermosa?! What are you doing here!? How did you know–
Amity: Book 5, chapter 8, Azure pretends to kidnap Hecate–
Luke: During the ice festival to save her from the monster clan! You remembered my favourite part.
Amity: Yes, but right now, I just want to keep my boyfriend from being sent to the Conformatorium… again.
Luke can't help but stare at Amity, blushing to see her wearing her revealing battle outfit and jacket, which she notices.
Amity: Is something wrong?
Luke: I forget how pretty you look in that outfit. And I think the new hair suits you better with it.
The sweet compliment causes Amity to blush, too.
Amity: Aww. You're so sweet.
Kikimora: Kikimora can't help but be annoyed. Someone, please kill me.
Luke: Jealousy. Anyone ever tell you how ugly that is? With an attitude like that, it's no wonder you're single.
Kikimora's face reddened in agitation as Amity giggled. Before they can do anything, Luke, Amity, and Kikimora gasp, halting when abomination goo forms in front of them like a tornado.
Luke: Hide!
Luke tosses Kikimora away, and she hides in another alley, carefully watching what's unfolding behind her. The goo forms into Darius.
Darius: Well, well, what do we have here?
Luke: Who the hell is this guy!?
Amity: Oh, Titan! That's Darius, Head Witch of the Abomination Coven!
Darius: You're well-informed. Let me guess, you're Alador's youngest daughter, I presume?
Amity: Amity gasps. How do you know that?!
Darius: You have his eyes. It was easy to guess.
Luke: Wait, this guy knows your dad?
Amity: Yeah. Dad and Darius were friends when they were students at Hexside.
Darius: Keyword being "were." Your old man is pretty much nothing to me now. I feel sorry that you even have to put up with him.
Amity: Amity narrows her eyes. There's nothing to put up with since we don't speak much.
Darius: Neglecting his children? Wow, talk about Father of the Year. He then looks at Luke. And I know who you are, too, the famous human living in the Boiling Isles, Luke. But more than that. You're also… He grins. The Son of Sparda.
Luke: It's Luke's turn to be shocked. What!? How did you know that?
Darius: The resemblance between the two of you makes it easy. It seems my old friend was busy in the Human Realm after escaping the emperor.
Luke: You knew my dad?!
Before Darius could reply, a flash-step is heard, and something catches his eye. Luke and Amity turn to see Hunter casually leaning against the wall with his arms crossed.
Hunter: Hello, human… Blight.
Amity: Oh, great.
Luke: Not you again.
Hunter: Missed you too.
Hunter walks up, stopping a couple distances away, and Darius himself isn't too pleased.
Darius: And what are you doing here, Little Prince?
Hunter: Good to see you too, Darius.
Darius: I told you, I don't need help, especially from a powerless witch.
Hunter: That's cool. I didn't come to help you. I'm only doing my job. Plus, I feel the need to test my new powers on the human. Oh, and also, that is no way to talk to the emperor's nephew.
Luke and Amity can't help but be weirded out by this argument. Darius rolls his eyes.
Amity: Wow… for fellow Coven Heads, you two do not get along.
Luke: Uh… are you two gonna keep arguing, or are we gonna fight?
Hunter: After you tell us why you invaded the parade. What are you up to now, human?
Darius: I'd answer the question. I can promise you that when I'm forced to do dirty work like this, I'm in a very foul mood.
Luke: It's none of your business!
Hunter: Fine. Be like that. But you're not going anywhere until we get answers.
Amity: The couple share looks. Are you sure you want to do this?
Luke: Like I told the others, I'll fight him on equal terms or not at all. And you know the second one's not my style.
Amity: Alright. I'll handle Darius.
Luke: Gotcha. Then I'll handle blondie here.
Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep - Enter the Darkness
Luke and Amity walk up to their respective opponents.
Amity forms her Abomination Chakram and clutches them, facing Darius, who gives a blank look.
Darius: Are you actually gonna do this, kid? You're decades away from my level of experience.
Amity: I'm not scared of you, Darius.
Darius: Hmm. You do have guts, and I respect that, at the very least. Alright then. Darius' arms form into two Abomination scythes. Let's see what you can do, Little Blight.
Amity: Amity tosses her cloak away. My name is Amity.
Luke faces Hunter, bringing out Rebellion and igniting the blade, and Hunter slightly draws Yamato. The half-human boy points his sword at his rival, both ready for a showdown.
Luke: If you're gonna get in my way, then I'm sure you have enough time for another game.
Hunter sheathes Yamato.
Hunter: Sure, why not? This might be an opportunity for me to see how well this little guy and I can work together against you.
Hunter whistles, and Flapjack emerges from his tunic, chirping, much to Luke's surprise when he recognizes him.
Luke: Hey, I remember that little guy!
Flapjack turns into Hunter's Cardinal Staff, which the Golden Guard catches and gives a swing, striking a pose.
Luke: So, you've got a real witch's staff now, huh? Well, two can play that game.
Luke whistles, and Repede climbs out of his hoodie, barking.
Hunter: A palisman?
Repede turns into Luke's Wolf Staff, which the Son of Sparda catches and gives a swing, striking a pose, too.
Hunter: So, you have a real staff, too, huh? Cute. But too bad this isn't a pinata party. Let's see what comes out of you when I hit you with this.
Luke: Alright, come and get me.
Luke and Hunter both clutch their staffs, glaring. Luke spins his staff, creating an electrifying blue spell circle. Hunter does the same and creates a yellow one. Both thrust their staffs, unleashing powerful beams of blue and gold energy, colliding in an epic explosion. The duel begins.
More fireworks explode in the air from Hooty as Luke and Amity begin their duels with Hunter and Darius, respectively.
Amity charges Darius. She swings her chakrams, but Darius blocks them with one scythe, holding Amity back easily while she pushes hard. Darius slices with his other scythe, but Amity ducks and rolls around him. Darius turns to slice, but Amity quickly catches with her Chakrams. She kicks off of Darius, making him stumble back as she gracefully lands on the ground.
Amity runs, tossing her dual chakrams, but the Coven Head deflects them. Amity catches them and morphs them into an Abomination Gauntlet. She leaps up, diving down to deliver a strong punch, but Darius morphs his scythe into an Abomination Arm, which he holds out effortlessly to catch and stop Amity in her place. His arm explodes, and Amity is sent screaming and crashing into the ground, her gauntlet turning into a puddle. She lifts herself up, groaning and glaring at Darius as he slowly approaches her.
Darius: Not bad. But you're out of your league, kid. I'm decades ahead of you in Abomination Magic. You don't have a chance against me.
Amity: Oh yeah?
Amity gets up, summoning her Cat Staff. She traces a large spell circle and casts a fire spell, sending a stream of flames, but Darius forms an Abomination shield that blocks and cancels the flames out. Amity then charges Darius with a battle cry. She swings her staff three times only for Darius to easily evade while walking back and leaning his body. When Amity thrusts her staff, Darius steps out of the way, forming his arm into a hammer.
When Amity turns, Darius swings and sends Amity screaming again. She sprawls across the ground, losing her staff. She struggles but gets up, crossing her arms and closing her eyes. Then, she snaps them open, revealing the whites to have become black. Darius watches in surprise as Amity spreads her arms, morphing them into scythe arms, having unleashed her Pseudo Abomination form.
Darius: Well, that was unexpected.
Amity lunges at Darius with a war cry, swinging a scythe that the Abomination Coven Head deflects with his own scythe arms. The two trade swings; when Darius thrusts, Amity flips above, morphing one of her arms into a spear to lunge at Darius, but he becomes goo, disappearing into the ground, much to Amity's shock. He reforms behind her, morphing his arms into morning star maces as she turns around to morph her arms back into fists. Darius launches the maces, and Amity ducks. She grabs Darius' arm, pulling him in for a punch right to the face that sends him flying. With a flip, he lands on his feet, rubbing his mouth with a grin.
Darius: I see I'm not the only one who can turn his limbs into weapons. The little princess has tricks up her sleeve.
Amity: You haven't seen anything yet.
Amity holds up her fist, a spell circle appearing around her wrist, and she slams the ground, unleashing a rupture of Abomination goo that engulfs and attempts to crush Darius from within, only for the goo to be blown away, staining the wall. Darius has his arms spread with spell circles in front of his hands, aiming a look at Amity.
Darius: Hate to break it to you, princess, but your powers are incomplete compared to mine.
Amity: Just wait 'till I start trying.
Morphing her arms back to normal, Amity forms two spell circles, and her Abomination rises behind her.
Amity: Abomination! Fight!
Her Abomination charges Darius, prompting him to summon his own Abomination, which looks larger and has a head that looks like Darius'. The two Abominations grapple, Amity pushing via spell circles with all her strength while Darius merely holds one hand out. His Abomination slowly pushes down Amity's, and her spell circles become a little unstable, causing her to groan and grunt in pain. But to Darius' surprise, the Youngest Blight musters the strength to push harder, and her eyes glow purple. In response, her Abomination grows slightly large, almost matching Darius' one in size, allowing it to push back. Darius smiles, impressed, as he forms a second spell circle and pushes harder, too. Both Abominations and Abomination witches wrestle for control, pushing hard. Their creations boil and bubble before they explode. Slime rains down among them as Amity pants, and Darius stands smiling. Amity's eyes stop glowing but remain black.
Darius: I'm officially impressed. You've got spunk, little princess. You've learned Abomination magic quite well.
Amity just glares as she holds out her hand, resummoning her staff.
Amity: Thanks for the compliment.
Darius: Allow me to show you my respect by actually taking you seriously.
Amity: What!?
Darius: Like I said, your transformation is incomplete compared to mine. Let me show you what Abomination magic can really do.
Darius closes his eyes, which turn black and glow green. Amity gasps in horror as Darius becomes engulfed in Abomination Goo, growing larger and covering him in his exoskeleton. Amity looks up in horror as Darius growls, giving a vicious look and letting Amity know just how outclassed she is compared to him.
Amity: Oh, Titan…
Meanwhile, Luke and Hunter are duelling with their new Wolf and Cardinal Staffs, wielding them with expertise, and their palismen glow with blue electricity and yellow energy.
Luke deflects a swing from Hunter, the half-human spinning his staff like a bo-staff, blocking the Golden Guard's second swing. He ducks a third, swiping Hunter off his feet with a swing. Luke swings down, but Hunter blocks and then knocks Luke off his feet with a kick. Hunter rolls back, getting up, and Luke follows, jumping up on his hands. He drops down to avoid another swing, resummoning his staff, holding it out to block Hunter's downward swing. The blonde uses the butt of his staff to knock Luke's in the air. He proceeds to thrust, but Luke flips up, catching his Wolf Staff. He spins his staff, blocking Hunter again, redirecting his Cardinal Staff, kicking it off, and delivering a kick to Hunter, sending him flying back. The Golden Guard flips and lands on his feet.
Luke flips up, slamming the butt of his staff to unleash a rupture of icicles toward Hunter, who holds out his hand, his Cardinal Staff flying into his hand. He thrusts his staff, stopping the icicles with a yellow energy barrier. He leaps up, spinning and unleashing a blast of flames. Luke traces a spell circle on the ground, sliding back as it unleashes a blast of water that douses the flames. Hunter flash-steps onto an icicle, then back into the air to unleash six bolts of lightning.
Luke deflects them all by spinning his staff. Hunter flash-steps behind for a swing, but to his surprise, Luke does his flash-step, dodging Hunter's swing, teleporting away from him, and slamming his staff on the ground.
Hunter: A Flash-Step!?
Massive vines erupt from the ground, heading straight for Hunter. The Golden Guard flash-steps, dodging one; he smacks the other away and sends out a fist made of earth to stop the third. Luke and Hunter flash-step, exchanging a swing. They flash-step again, locking staffs. They flash-step on and off opposite walls, exchanging mid-air strikes. They flash-step a couple more times, exchanging strikes.
Luke and Hunter teleport in front of each other to launch a barrage of strikes with both ends of the staff, spinning them before clashing in a deadlock, releasing electric sparks as their palismen glow and they share a glare.
Hunter: You can Flash-Step!?
Luke: You're not the only one with that little trick, blondie.
Luke and Hunter flash-step away from each other.
Hunter: Huh. Impressive, human. Let's see just how good you are at using it.
Hunter mounts his staff and flash-steps past Luke, flying through the alleyway.
Luke: So, now you wanna race, huh? It's on!
Luke runs in Hunter's direction and tosses up his Wolf Staff. He leaps up, spinning like a wheel, and lands on his staff, flash-stepping and flying after Hunter, leaving Amity to fight Darius on her own and Kikimora to watch in awe.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Sonic vs Shadow - Tokyo Chase
Hunter zooms through the alleyway in the form of a gold light, literally followed by Luke in the form of a blue light. Luke is now flying his staff in the traditional way, pursuing Hunter as the two are approaching the ice wall Luke had made to stop Terra, prompting them to flash-step above it and back to the ground, flying along it out of the alleyway and back into the parade. Now, the two are engaged in a high-speed chase throughout the parade with civilians, scouts, parade floats, barrels, ratworms, and vehicles in the way. The people and scouts barely catch sight of them as they fly past through, and Luke catches up with Hunter via a flash-step, flying just behind him.
Luke: Hey, I gotta ask! One fighter to another! Who does your cloak!?
Hunter gives an annoyed groan, bringing out and spinning what appears to be Luke's light blue Glyph Gun, aiming it at him.
Luke: Hey, is that one of my Glyph Guns!?
Luke tries to take out his guns, but he is stunned when he only takes out his dark blue one, meaning Hunter has somehow snagged his other one.
Luke: How did you-!? When did you-!?
Hunter: I have my ways.
Hunter shoots a barrage of laser bullets from the gun, forcing Luke to flash-step back to gain some distance between him and Hunter. Hunter keeps shooting bullets from Luke's Glyph Gun, which the human boy keeps dodging by flying left and right, jumping off parade floats, bouncing off the head of a Coven Scout, and sliding underneath a cart. Luke flies to his right, dodging bullets and a ratworm before flash-stepping towards Hunter, but the Golden Guard flash-steps in return, dodging Luke, and he ends up on a crash course towards the Abomination float, but Luke jumps off his staff, running along the float and jumping onto a flower float. Hunter flash-steps above and dives towards Luke, but he slides, causing Hunter to slightly overshoot as Luke flash-steps onto another float and brings out his remaining Glyph Gun. Hunter shoots more bullets from his stolen gun that Luke dodges by running, jumping, and teleporting float to float with amazing speed, parkour, and agility while holding his staff and shooting bullets at Hunter with his gun that the Golden Guard keeps dodging by swerving.
Luke: Hey! Shooting and dangerously weaving through traffic is my thing!
Hunter goes ahead of Luke, dodging more bullets fired at him. Eventually, Luke reaches the last float, leaping off it, then runs along the side of another cart before jumping off and mounting back onto his staff, continuing to follow after his rival. Luke moves left and right, dodging incoming scouts and citizens, while Hunter flies slightly higher. Luke flash-steps and attempts to grab him, but Hunter teleports as well to dodge. Luke jumps off his staff, then off the ground to casually leap through the openings of a wagon, surprising the passengers as he casually rests his hands behind his head.
Luke: Coming through!
Luke spins around, mounting back on his staff. Hunter teleports above him, diving down and shoving his rival away, causing Luke to wobble and fall behind. But he regains his balance and flash-steps, teleporting above Hunter with his staff dismissed, and grabs the end of the Golden Guard's Cardinal Staff, causing him to slow down while Luke holds on tight.
Luke: Why are you running away? We were just getting started!
Luke and Hunter end up bumping into some crates and a wagon, causing Hunter to wobble and lose his mask and the stolen Glyph Gun, the latter of which Luke caught. His face exposed, Hunter turns to glare at Luke.
Hunter: The more you talk, the harder I wanna to hit you!
Hunter flies faster, and Luke aims his gun but screams when they are about to crash into a tall podium.
Luke: Watch out!
Hunter quickly flash-steps, dragging Luke with him, above the podium and towards the walls of the tall building that was behind it.
Luke: Oh crap!
Luke summons his Wolf Staff again and mounts on. He and Hunter aim their staves upward and fly along the walls of the building. After finally catching up to Hunter and flying next to him, the two warriors keep slamming into each other, releasing electricity each time they make contact. When they near the red rooftop, Hunter flash-steps to Luke's other side and slams into him. After reaching the roof, Luke falls off his staff and onto the building with his palisman staff rolling next to him. He watches Hunter shoot up high above the building, leaving a trail of gold energy and electricity as he climbs higher into the night sky.
As Luke stands up, Hunter twists his staff around and makes it stop once it is high enough above the building. Hunter stands upside down on his staff, gold electricity surging around him. The same goes for Luke, who stands with blue electricity sparking him. The two rivals share heated glares before leaping toward each other, using the electricity they've gathered to propel themselves further. Electricity still crackles around their body as they reeled back their fists for a punch, closing in on each other. When they get within range of each other, the two devil warriors throw electrifying punches and collide.
...
Luke and Hunter's clash is so powerful that it creates a brief thundercloud in the skies and sends out a massive shockwave of blue and gold electricity throughout Bonesborough that causes all the lights around town to either shatter or turn off, making the town almost pitch black. The citizens scream from the sudden shock and darkness and almost lose their balance from the tremor that follows. The Coven Scouts struggle to keep things under control, some of them and other citizens staring at the skies above the building Luke and Hunter clashed on top of.
Steve: What… just happened?
Qrow is standing on top of one of the buildings with his arms crossed, staring at Luke and Hunter's point of collision with an exasperated expression over the chaos and commotion their little rivalry has caused.
Qrow: Overkill, just like always.
Devil May Cry 3 – Vergil Battle 2
Luke is lying on top of the building, dazed after his clash with Hunter, which resulted in him falling. He lifts himself up, groaning a little as he holds his head.
Luke: 1.21 gigawatts.
Just as Luke regains his senses, Hunter flash-steps a couple distances away from him with his Cardinal Staff resting on his shoulder as he removes his hood while giving Luke a grin.
Hunter: Feeling tired, human? You're welcome to nap if you'd like.
Taking that personally, Luke resumes his usual snarky demeanor.
Luke: Ha! Never!
Luke gets on his hand and jumps back onto his feet, holding out his hand for the Wolf Staff to fly towards him. He catches it, striking a fighting stance with it.
Luke: Like I said, we're just getting started!
Hunter: You've clearly improved since our duel in the Covention and Conformatorium; I'll give you that. But you can't win now, human. I'm guessing your mentor, pet, and girlfriend told you about Eclipse Lake.
Luke: They did. I know you can transform into a devil like me! How were you able to do that with the Yamato!? It should only react like that to my old man or anyone related to him. And you're sure as hell not descended from him!
Hunter: I don't care. I needed the power to prove myself, and the Yamato responded to my desire and granted it to me. That's good enough for me.
Luke: You're seriously not interested in finding out how and why it happened?
Hunter: Don't know, don't care, couldn't care less.
Luke: That's just about the response I'd expect from a lapdog like you.
Hunter: Call me what you like. I'm just following my orders. You may have slipped ahead of me when you unlocked your Devil Trigger at the Conformatorium. But now that I've unlocked my own, I've closed that gap. You've got no chance of winning now.
Luke: Is that right!? Then, let's take this fight up to another level, and we can find out! Devil to Devil!
Hunter: You're on!
Luke crosses his arms, and his eyes turn black, glowing blue. He spreads his body and unleashes his Devil Trigger; his arms turn into claws, his entire body becomes demonic, and he spreads his wings. Luke lifts his head up to release a roar.
Hunter crosses his arms. His eyes turn black, glowing red. He spreads his body and unleashes his Devil Trigger; his arms turn into claws, his blade-sheath is formed, his entire body becomes demonic, and he spreads his wings. Hunter lifts his head up to release a roar.
Luke and Hunter are surrounded by electricity as they growl at each other, clutching their staffs while their energy surges throughout the darkened town. Luckily, it is too dark for anyone to see two devils about to fight.
The two devils take flight into the sky and blast off with their staffs aimed, surrounded by blue and gold energy. They collide, causing a huge explosion in the skies as they push against each other with all their strength.
Meanwhile, back in the alleyway, Amity is getting beaten by Darius. She's sent screaming and crashing into a wall, dropping to the ground, but retains her transformation. She gasps when Darius looms above her, bringing down two blade-arms. Amity quickly rolls out of the way, barely dodging. Amity quickly casts a fire spell, but Darius cuts it to pieces before sending out abomination goo from his body. Amity quickly gracefully cartwheels backward, dodging the incoming goo. She then mounts on her staff, flying away to dodge more goo. She does a 180 and flies straight for Darius, who sends out a large fist, prompting Amity to leap up, morph her arms into a spear, and dive down to slice Darius, only for him to catch Amity. His hand puffs up and blows her away, sending Amity screaming as she hits the ground hard but manages to get up.
Darius: Give up?
Amity: Never!
Amity morphs her arms into spears again. Darius not only morphs his arms into morning star maces, but two more limbs emerge from beneath his arms. Amity recoils upon seeing how much stronger Darius' transformation is, but that doesn't stop her from launching her spear-arms. Darius launches all four of his limbs, and as expected, he overpowers Amity, engulfing her in goo and sending her screaming again. Amity lays on her side, covered in some goo and bruises. Amity groans as she lifts herself up, only to gasp when Darius launches his arm to ensnare Amity, lifting her up and squeezing her hard, causing her to scream. She screams louder when she's smashed against the wall, then the ground.
As this goes on, Devil Luke and Devil Hunter duel in the skies. Luke unleashes bolts of blue lightning from his staff, which Hunter deflects by spinning his own before sending a blast of energy from his free hand. Luke counters with his own energy blast. They spin their staffs, tracing spell circles and unleashing massive blasts of electricity that collide and explode, creating a thundercloud high above.
Down below, Kikimora watches this fight in amazement, not noticing Hunter using a palisman staff.
Kikimora: Remarkable! Those two are evenly matched!
The two devils flash-step in the air, exchanging strikes and moving so fast they are seen as blue and gold lightning zigzagging and colliding in the night skies, lighting it up.
Hunter unleashes his Devil Spear. Luke dodges skillfully, flying through the air. Hunter launches more Devil Spears, but Luke keeps dodging. Then he stops to deflect the spears by spinning his staff and flash-steps. Luke reappears above and drops down with a battle cry, proceeding to strike Hunter, only for the Golden Guard to block with his demonic sheath. Then, he thrusts his staff into Luke's stomach, sending him flying back. Luke recovers just as Hunter teleports above him, prompting Luke to hold up his staff, blocking the attack and holding Hunter back. Their collision unleashes a shockwave that blows away a couple clouds.
Hunter: Well, what do you know? We're evenly matched.
Luke: Yeah. And for some reason, this fight is kinda fun, even though I'm fighting for my life.
Hunter: I feel the same way. I'm actually enjoying this fight too. There's something about you, human, that brings this feeling of enjoyment out of me.
Luke: I can say the same thing about you, man. The longer we fight, the more I want it to go on. I wonder if it's because we're both devils.
Hunter: It might be!
Luke hears Amity screaming and looks down to see his girlfriend taking a beating. Amity is thrown up, and Darius delivers a punch in the stomach with four fists that make her gasp for air. She screams when she's smacked into the ground. Darius sends out a goo that engulfs Amity's body, pinning her to the ground and covering her mouth. Amity gives muffled screams as she struggles to escape.
Luke: Amity!
Luke pushes Hunter off and flash-steps away from him, diving towards the alleyway.
Hunter: Hey! Get back here!
Hunter flies after him.
Amity continues muffling and struggling. Darius forms an arm into a hammer, causing Amity to scream in horror.
Darius: Lights out, Little Princess.
Luke: HEY!
Darius looks up to see Luke divebombing and slicing off his arms with his staff. Darius cries out and recoils in pain, quickly regrowing his two main arms as he sees Luke kneeling on the ground with his staff. Amity coughs and catches her breath, lifting herself up to see her boyfriend standing up, spinning his staff, and getting in a stance, his eyes glowing blue.
Luke: STAY AWAY FROM MY AMITY!
Darius: Bad move, half-breed.
Darius lunges, but Luke activates the Fire Glyph on his body, switching him to Fire Mode. He swings his staff, unleashing a wave of flames that engulf Darius and causes the Coven Head to recoil and cry out again.
Luke switches back to his Electric Mode and bends to Amity, holding his hand out.
Luke: Amity, you okay?
Amity: Amity blushes and smiles, taking Luke's hand. Yeah. Thank you, Luke.
Luke: Hey, you've got my back, and I've got yours.
Amity smiles more but then gasps.
Amity: Luke! Look out!
Luke turns to see Darius rising up to smash the couple with a hammer arm. The human-devil quickly holds out his staff to form a blue barrier, stopping Darius' hammer and holding him back.
Darius: How long do you think you can hold that barrier, little man?
Darius pushes harder, and Luke responds in kind, Amity on the ground behind him.
Luke: Amity, I can't hold this barrier forever! We gotta knock these guys out and get out of here with Kikimora!
Amity: Luke, I can't win! I'm too outmatched! Darius is a Coven Head! His magic is more powerful than mine! Amity looks at her hands. Plus, I'm still not used to using these new powers! I don't know what to do!
Luke: You've gotta improvise, Ams! You can beat him!
Amity: How!?
Luke: Darius might be the stronger witch, but you're smarter! You're more creative with your magic! Use that against him! Listen, I'm about to release my barrier. When I do, we strike! Luke smiles at his girlfriend. Coven Head or not, you can beat this guy, Ams! I have faith in you!
Amity: Luke…
Touched by Luke's faith in her, Amity smiles back in determination before the couple share a nod. Darius continues pushing and trying to break through.
Hunter: Darius! Duck!
Darius does so as Hunter comes blasting in via flash-step, smashing his staff into the barrier and shattering it, crossing staves with Luke again. The human-devil sends out a shockwave from his staff, giving the Son of Sparda an opening to flash-step and tackle the Golden Guard in the air.
Amity charges Darius with a battle cry, her arms morphing into goo as she enlarges her fist. She leaps up and lunges at Darius, the Coven Head forming a shield to block the punch. Amity shrinks her fist and forms a Chakram, which she slices the shield with, only to be caught in Darius' grip again. She screams in agony, and when Darius puts the squeeze on her as he grins.
Darius: You put up a good fight, kid. But in the end, you're no match for me.
Amity screams and groans until she sees Luke giving her a look of encouragement. She closes her eyes, thinking. She gasps when an idea comes to mind.
(Flashback)
Her mind flashes back to Luke drawing the Ice-Glyph on snow to get them out of their chasm.
The Fire-Glyph that was embedded in Boscha's Grudgby ball when Luke caught it.
(End of Flashback)
Amity remembers that Glyphs don't work just on paper. They can work via other objects they're drawn on. She just needs to get creative with her magic, just like Luke said she is. Amity looks down, shadowing her eyes.
Amity: You're right, Darius. I'm no match for you in my current form. She lifts her head with a smirk. But… if I can't outpower you, I'll just have to outwit you doing this!
Amity traces a spell circle, surprising Darius by taking some of his Abomination goo and forming a large Light-Glyph between them. She taps the goo, and it releases a blinding light that causes Darius to cry out in pain and release Amity, who summons her Cat Staff when she lands. She controls leftover goo around her, forming Plant-Glyphs around Darius. Just as he regains his sight, Amity flips up and slams the butt of her staff on the ground.
The glyphs glow green, and vines erupt from all of them, engulfing Darius. The Head of the Abomination Coven uses his blades to cut them all, then forms both his arms into a massive hammer that he brings down to crush Amity, causing her to scream. When he lifts up the hammer, Amity is lying in a small crater, groaning, with her staff lying next to her. Just as she opens her eyes, Darius smashes her again, and she screams even louder. She gives agonized breaths, clenching the dirt hard. Darius prepares to crush her a third time, lifting it up.
Darius: Good fight, kid. I'll make sure this only knocks you out.
He brings down his hammer just as Amity's eyes snap open, glowing purple once more. Just as she is crushed, a small dust cloud is created. Darius has his hammer arm lying on the ground, having seemingly won… only to be shocked when the hammer moves a little. Beneath it, Amity is shown to be uninjured. She groans and grunts heavily, having caught the hammer in time, and is slowly lifting it with all her new super strength.
Darius: What!?
Amity's black eyes open, briefly glowing purple every couple seconds. Amity flexes her muscles underneath her coat and crop top, and her 6-pack abs bulge as she lifts, eventually standing on two feet. With a heavy grunt, Amity tosses up the hammer, catching it and holding it overhead, her eyes remaining black. Darius is unable to crush her now.
Darius: How are you doing this!?
Amity just grins, her eyes glowing purple once more.
Amity: You have no idea just how powerful I really am!
With a scream, she lifts Darius off the ground and spins him around before tossing him high up into the air. Darius splatters onto the ground, and Amity summons her staff, spinning and tracing a spell circle to control Abomination goo, which is drawn in a circle around Darius as he reforms, still in Abomination form and glaring at Amity as he brings out a sword.
Darius: You'll regret that, you little brat!
Amity: You know, I'm starting to see why my dad can't stand you. You really need to cool off.
Amity grins, confusing Darius. He gasps upon seeing he's standing on a large Ice-Glyph. Amity spins and raises her staff.
Amity: See ya!
With a shout, Amity slams her staff on the ground again, and the glyph glows turquoise.
Darius: NO!
Darius becomes engulfed and fully encased in ice, freezing him in place. After that, Amity reverts her physique back to normal, and her eyes stop glowing, although they remain black.
Luke and Hunter are standing on the roofs of opposite buildings, the former seeing Darius frozen, and Amity gives her boyfriend the thumbs up, which he gladly returns.
Luke: Knew you could do it, hermosa. He then grins at Hunter. That's one down, pal!
Hunter: Pfft! I don't need Darius! I can't take the both of you myself!
Luke clutches his Wolf Staff in one hand and brings out Rebellion with the other, opening the blade. All the Glyphs on it glow.
Luke: As fun as this duel between devils is, I've got a mission to do.
Hunter clutches his Cardinal Staff in one hand and draws Yamato from his arm sheath, the patterns glowing gold.
Hunter: Fine by me, let's end this.
Luke and Hunter spread their wings and leap up into the air, flash-stepping and exchanging rapid strikes with their swords and staffs, unable to land a blow on each other. They trade kicks and fly back before flash-stepping into the skies, engaging in another high-speed clash as blue and gold lights.
Amity watches this in awe as the two devils fight.
Amity: Whoa. I have a lot of training to do if I'm ever gonna be at that level.
Luke and Hunter land on the ground, panting a little. Rebellion, Yamato, Wolf Staff, and Cardinal Staff all glow.
Luke: That all you got?
Hunter: I'm just getting started!
Hunter sends out an energy blade from Yamato, and Luke fires an electric beam from Rebellion. They meet in an explosion, and the two devils fly along the ground towards each other.
With a shout, they thrust their staves, the heads colliding again, the force of which sends the Wolf Staff and Cardinal Staff flying and spinning high up the air. Luke and Hunter recoil but recover to blast off and lock blades with Rebellion and Yamato, pushing with all their strength. The two devils are both covered in blue and gold energy emanating from them and their swords, the sparks grinding.
Hunter: This feels familiar!
Luke: Only this time, things are different!
With a strong, electrifying push, Luke disarms Hunter, sending both their swords flying in the air and catching the Golden Guard off-guard. Luke is bent down, summoning his Glyph Guns, which he aims against Hunter's chest, much to the Golden Guard's shock.
Luke: Adios, amigo.
...
Luke fires beams of light and electricity that send Hunter flying, and he crashes into the ground, covered in a dust cloud. Luke spins his guns, blowing smoke from them. He dismisses them and catches Rebellion and the Wolf Staff. Yamato and the Cardinal Staff stick to the ground.
Amity: Luke!
Luke sees Amity run over to him. He dismisses both his weapons and reverts to human form (though he maintains the black eyes and fangs) as his girlfriend stops in front of him, both their eyes black and voices distorted.
Amity: You did it! That was amazing! You were amazing!
Luke: Not as amazing as you! You took on a Coven Head, Amity! And using your magic to create Glyphs? Genius! I knew you could pull it off! Up high!
Luke and Amity share a high-five and chuckle.
Luke: One of the reasons I fell for you; you're smart.
Amity: Thanks… you weren't so bad yourself
Luke stares at Amity's black eyes, similar to his own.
Luke: Looks like you unlocked your own Pseudo form. I remember you and Eda telling us about it after Eclipse Lake.
Amity: Are the black eyes a good look for me?
Luke: You kidding? The eyes and the distorted voice… you've gone from beautiful to frighteningly beautiful.
Amity blushes, stroking the side of her hair.
Amity: You were pretty handsome fighting with a staff in your devil form.
Luke blushes as well, disturbed when they look at a scared Kikimora coming out of hiding, and their eyes revert back to their normal white colours.
Kikimora: Can we go now? All these battles have me terrified out of my mind.
Luke: Right! Let's bail before these guys thaw out or regain consciousness! He holds out his hand to Amity. Shall we, Esplendida? He winks. That's Spanish for "Gorgeous."
Amity takes it with a smile.
Amity: Lead the way, Batato.
Luke: Yeah, that nickname still doesn't suit me.
Amity can't help but giggle. The two of them run, and Luke takes hold of Kikimora's hand. They make their way through the alley, leaving Hunter and Darius behind. Luke has Kikimora on his back as they all run.
Kikimora: Human. So, you're the Son of Sparda!?
Luke: Yeah, yeah, my dad married a human woman, and they had me, a half-human, half-demon baby. We can talk about that later!
Amity: So, where to?
Luke: The docks! That's where Kikimora's ride is waiting!
Amity summons Abomination goo from her jar again, and it splits up to form two skateboards.
Luke: Ooh! Skateboards are a thing on the Boiling Isles!? Way past cool!
Luke and Amity jump on one each, riding through the alleyway with Kikimora in toe.
Eda and Raine are having their own duel, and despite the Owl Lady's inability to use her magic, she's holding her own against her ex but can tell they are holding back.
Raine swings their bow against their violin, unleashing three blades of energy. Eda jumps to her right, dodging the first.
Eda: Please!
She uses her staff to vault above the second.
Eda: Rainestorm, stop it!
Eda barely ducks the third one, which cuts her vine wall in half.
Raine: I don't want to hurt you, Eda. But you're not giving me much of a choice.
Eda: Eda stands up. Come on, Raine! I know when you're going easy on me.
Raine: I–
Raine groans and plays their violin, summoning a thundercloud above that sends down bolts of lightning that Eda barely dodges, jumping back. She brings out an Invisibility Glyph, running through the bolts and disappearing. Raine looks around, confused. They are about to send out more bolts, but Eda reappears, blocking their bow with her staff, sending out a shockwave that gets rid of the thundercloud. She forces the bow down and walks up to her ex.
Eda: Did you forget this too?
Eda pulls out a cassette player and plays a recording of them performing "Raine's Rhapsody" together. Raine groans and grunts in fury.
Raine: Why won't you just leave me alone?!
Raine flicks a string, sending out a blast that slams Eda into her vines, and she's knocked to the ground. She lifts herself up, bruised, ruffled, and hurt by her friend's rejection and attacking her.
Raine: For old time's sake, I'll give you one last chance. Eda stands up. Move... please.
Eda shakes her head, determined to save her Rainestorm.
Raine: So be it.
Raine is about to attack again until voices are heard.
Coven Scout 1: I think I heard something over here!
Coven Scout 2: Head Witch! Are you there?
Coven Scout 1: Surround the area!
Eda searches for another Invisibility Glyph but can't find one on her. Raine grabs one from the ground, sharing a look with Eda before handing her the glyph.
Raine: Go home. They literally turn their back on Eda. Maybe travel for a bit. Just don't contact me again. I work for the emperor, after all.
Eda is profoundly hurt. Has the Raine she loves truly been lost?
Coven Scout 1: Head Witch!
With no time to think, Eda inhales and uses the glyph to disappear just as scouts arrive, finding Raine.
Coven Scout 1: Head Witch! Are you hurt?
Raine: Raine secretly wipes a tear away. No, not badly. Let's return to the parade.
Raine walks out of the alley, proceeding to return to the parade.
Luke and Amity arrive at a dock at the edge of Bonesborough, where Kikimora's hand dragon lies at the end. Luke, Amity, and Kikimora make their way across the dock.
Luke: Okay, Kikimora. Kevin will get you back to your family in Palm Stings by morning.
Kikimora: You named her Kevin? That's a boy's name, you fool!
Luke: Luke is surprised. Wait? Kevin's a girl? I didn't know that. Luke shrugs. Meh. Oh well.
He climbs up the dragon. She's a good girl, but Bump couldn't keep her at his place anymore. Luke sets Kikimora onto Kevin. I'd say this plan was a flawless success. When you get home for your reunion, you'll see your family again, you can make amends with your mom, and you can brag about your daring escape! You'll be walking proof that you don't have to choose between worlds!
Luke jumps down while Amity crosses her arms in suspicion, considering her previous encounter with Kikimora.
Kikimora: You've been such a help to me, human. You really are a kind person... Kikimora's expression becomes evil. And an utter fool!
She laughs, much to Luke's surprise.
Luke: Wait, what?
Kikimora: Palm Stings can burn for all I care! You heard Terra. They want to promote me! Me!
Amity: She could have been lying.
Kevin rises darkly, and Kikimora's expression is grim and sadistic again.
Kikimora: That's a risk I'm willing to take.
Luke: Kiki, if you go down this path, you'll never see your family again! Are you seriously going to choose Belos over your own family!?
Kikimora: Yes, I am. Just as your father, Sparda, chose the Demon Realm over you. Luke growls at that. And you chose this world over your adopted family in the Human Realm. We're not so different, human.
Luke is taken aback; he has no comeback for that.
Luke: That was…
Amity: Hey, back off! Don't talk about my boyfriend like that! He's nothing like you!
Kikimora: Say what you want. But I am not passing this opportunity! Maybe as a thank you, I could give Belos a few gifts. Luke gives a hateful glare. The troublemaking half-breed Son of Sparda and… Amity glares as Kikimora recognizes her. Ah… you're the little fire starter from Eclipse Lake.
Kevin lunges to attack, prompting the duo to quickly make some distance. Luke summons his Glyph Guns and shoots a rapid barrage of fire, light, and electric bullets that causes the dragon to stumble back. Kevin roars in rage, lunging at them again.
Luke dismisses his guns and gets out an Ice Glyph while Amity casts a fire spell.
Luke: Now, Amity!
Luke slams the glyph on the floor, and Amity sends out her magenta flames. The fire and ice spells combine to form a smokescreen, allowing Luke and Amity to run further down the dock as Kevin takes flight into the skies out of the smokescreen and dives towards them.
Amity forms an abomination gauntlet, dropping to a knee and aiming it at Kikimora. Luke imbues the gauntlet with an Ice Glyph. He then ignites Rebellion, switches it to Ice Mode, and holds it backhand, gathering ice energy.
Luke: Ready, Ams!?
Amity: Ready!
Kevin divebombs closer.
Luke & Amity: NOW!
Amity fires the gauntlet, and Luke swings his sword to unleash a wave of ice energy. The gauntlets explode, engulfing Kevin, and it becomes combined with Luke's ice wave, which encases her and Kikimora. They crash through the docks as Luke and Amity make a run for it again.
Luke and Amity keep running. But Kikimora and Kevin, thawed by the Boiling Sea, block their path, emerging right in front of them. Kikimora and Kevin dangerously eye both of them, with a twisted look on the gremlin's face.
Kikimora: Yes. Thank you, Luke, for all the help.
Luke: You won't be thanking me when I tear you apart, you double-crossing little maggot!
Luke spreads his body, transforming into his Devil form, and Amity unleashes her Pseudo Abomination Form. Luke gives a vicious growl, and one of Amity's arms morphs into a scythe. Kevin opens her mouth, preparing to devour both Luke and Amity. The couple hold hands as they brace themselves for a bigger fight.
Unbeknownst to them, a corvid flies in, morphing into Qrow, who suddenly gets between the kids and the dragon, holding his sword behind him to catch Kevin's teeth, effortlessly stopping the dragon and Kikimora in place without even looking at them.
Luke and Amity have their jaws agape in shock and disbelief as Qrow opens his eyes, giving a confident grin.
Qrow: Hey.
Luke & Amity: Qrow!?
Kikimora: Q-Qrow! W-what are you doing he-!?
Qrow cuts off Kikimora, weakly punching Kevin without even looking back, sending her and Kikimora flying and stumbling. The brother of Sparda then turns, spinning Harbinger and resting it on his shoulder. With the fight seemingly over now, Amity's arm reverts to normal.
Qrow: Attacking children, Kiki. That's a little low, even for you.
Kikimora: These children are criminals! Troublemakers! I was just doing my-!
Kikimora gasps when vines suddenly emerge from the water, ensnaring Kevin's mouth shut, much to Luke, Amity, and even Qrow's surprise.
Kikimora: What is this?
More vines emerge and tie down Kevin, causing Kikimora to fall off and get tied down, too. Terra emerges from the Boiling Sea, casually lying on multiple giant leaves. She slowly walks onto the docks as Qrow glares at her, displeased.
Qrow: What are you doing here, hag?
Terra: Come now, Little Bird. Is that any way to say thank you?
Qrow: I told you I didn't need help. So, get that ugly thing out of my face.
Terra: Terra chuckles, placing a hand on his shoulder. Oh, Qrow, it's good to see you're still just as feisty as ever… at least when you're not drunk. Qrow brushes Terra's hand off with a scoff, and she walks over to Kikimora. Now, as for you, Kiki, try not to get ahead of yourself. The emperor has a great many plans, but causing a riot by hurting a couple of children is not one of them.
Kikimora: Terra! Shouldn't you be babysitting the bard?
Terra: I wasn't sent here to watch over Raine. I was sent here to watch over you.
Terra causes the vines to recede from Kikimora, freeing her and allowing her to stand.
Terra: The promotion is real. You just had to prove your dedication.
Kikimora: Did I pass?
Terra: Unfortunately, yes.
Kikimora: Kikimora squeals in delight. So? What's the promotion? Who's under my command? What do I get?
Terra: Terra bends down. You get… to live.
Kikimora's eyes shrink, close to tears, realizing she just tossed away her family for nothing. Luke, Amity, and Qrow are disgusted by Terra's cruelty, the latter restraining it before looking to the gremlin.
Qrow: Not worth the sacrifices you've made, huh, shrimp?
Hunter: Wow. That took a dark twist.
Darius: For once, I agree with you, Little Prince.
Luke and Amity gasp to see Darius and Hunter standing at the docks near Kevin, having recovered and made their way here (and Hunter has his back mask on). Before another fight could break out, fireworks explode in the skies. Terra groans, knowing it's Hooty.
Terra: Come, Kiki, time to head back.
The vines re-wrap around Kikimora, dragging her and Kevin away. Terra proceeds to leave and then turns to Luke.
Terra: You must be the human I've heard so much about, the Son of Sparda, Luke.
Luke and Amity both revert back to their normal states.
Luke: Does everyone here know my father!?
Terra: Why, yes. Your father was famous and infamous throughout the Boiling Isles. Why, I met him when he was your age. You're his spitting image. He was such a spirited young man, full of fire, determination, sass, and thirst to prove himself. She feigns sadness. I was devastated to hear about his assault on the emperor and how it led to his death. The poor man. Luke narrows his eyes, not buying it and seeing it as an insult, while Qrow grits his teeth in rage. But enough of that. Qrow, Darius, Golden Guard, we're leaving now.
Darius: We'll catch up.
Terra: Suit yourself. She turns to Luke again. The emperor says he's looking forward to meeting you, human. Until then, Happy Coven Day.
And with that, Terra wraps herself in vines, disappearing into the water, leaving Luke and Amity to face Qrow, Darius, and Hunter. The couple get ready for a fight.
Darius: Relax. We're not here to fight.
Luke: What do you want?
Darius: I merely want to talk. Tell me, little man, do you truly believe you have what it takes?
Luke: Huh? What do you mean?
Darius: I know you wish to be the "Ultimate Witch-Warrior." Do you truly believe you have what it takes to become one, kid? Can you truly live up to your old man, Sparda's legacy?
Luke: Luke grew a bit uncomfortable. Well, I…
Darius: Darius grins. I knew your father. He was a friend of mine. The strongest witch I had ever known. He became a legend. But you… hmm.
Luke glares at Darius for this low blow until Amity stands in front of him.
Amity: Hey, back off! Don't you dare talk to my boyfriend like that! He doesn't need magic to be a witch! And he doesn't need to be like his father either! He's the strongest witch on the Boiling Isles in his own way!
Darius: Boyfriend? Clearly, you're nothing like your father, little princess. You have better taste in love interests. Luke and Amity both turn red. Amity's your name, right?
Amity: Um… yes.
Darius: Darius smiles. I have to say, you impressed me back there. Using abomination magic like that was nothing short of ingenious. Even I wouldn't have come up with something like that, and I'm a Coven Head. Plus, that hidden reserve of strength you showed actually surprised me. Unlike your worthless parents, I'd say you have a bright future ahead of you, little princess.
Amity: Luke and Amity are surprised by Darius being nice. Um… thank you? I guess.
Darius: You know, you might have what it takes to armour yourself with an Abomination Exoskeleton one day like I have. You've already unlocked part of that transformation. Darius then smiles at Luke. And as for you, little man, you've done well to survive in the Demon Realm for this long despite your human upbringing. He and Qrow share a nod, smiling. And fighting the emperor at your age is an impressive feat.
Luke: Well, not to brag, but I am too awesome for my own good sometimes. Actually, most of the time. Amity rolls her eyes. But I also had a lot of help from a bunch of people I trust with my life.
Darius: It seems you've formed a lot of connections in your time here… unlike this one. Darius and Qrow deadpan at Hunter, who looks back, confused. Darius smiles again at Luke. If you're capable of forming these kinds of connections and accomplishing many feats at your age, perhaps you might have what it takes to be the Ultimate Witch-Warrior. Luke is surprised by Darius' change in attitude. Darius prepares to leave. Magic or not, I think you'll do your dad proud. Just try to avoid dying. He looks to Amity. Also, little princess, give your old man my worst regards. And tell him I said he's a hack while you're at it.
Darius walks away, turning into Abomination goo and flying off, leaving just Hunter, who lifts up his mask, revealing a grin.
Hunter: Well, this was certainly one Coven Day I won't forget. Let's just call it a draw for now, human. we'll settle our score on another day. For some reason, I want to fight you again one-on-one. So, try to stay alive. Like Terra said, the emperor would like to meet you soon.
Luke: What is that supposed to mean? We've already met!
Hunter: Don't know, don't care. He puts his mask back on before looking at Amity. Oh, and by the way, Blight… thanks again for the key.
Amity glares at Hunter hatefully, hearing the mocking tone in his voice.
Hunter: Stay out of trouble, both of you. Next time… the emperor may not be so merciful to either of you. He's mounted on his staff, giving a playful look. Until then, Happy Coven Day! BYE-EEEEE!
Hunter flash-steps, blasting through the skies back to the parade like a shooting star.
And now the last one left standing is Qrow, who continues resting Harbinger on his shoulder as he grins at the kids. Luke is unsure what to say; this is the first time he's seen Qrow since the Conformatorium, and he found out he's his step-uncle. For him, this is awkward, but Qrow remains callous and confident.
Qrow: You sure have a knack for getting into trouble, kid, just like your old man. You're reckless, boneheaded, and headstrong. I like that.
Luke: Uh… thanks.
Qrow: I've kept tabs on you. You're getting better with each day, learning to use your new powers and having your own palisman staff. At this rate, you might just become as good as your dad, maybe even better. Luke is surprised by that. A little piece of advice: be careful with who you help. No telling what it is they truly want. The little midget Kikimora made her choice.
Luke: It's not like I helped her because I like her.
Qrow: Oh, I know. I can tell something's on your mind that drove you to pull an idiotic stunt like this. Whatever it is that's been eating you away, I suggest you talk about it with the people you trust most, the people who care about you. They'll light your way.
Luke looks down, letting Qrow's words sink in before exchanging a look with Amity, the two still holding hands, which Qrow smirks at.
Qrow: By the way, congrats on your new relationship, both of you. It's nice to see that, unlike your old man, you've got a better taste in love interests, Blight. Luke and Amity look to see their connected hands and blush, smiling sheepishly and separating their hands. Qrow then looks to Luke. And as for you, you're as lucky as your dad was to have a girl like that by your side. He looks down, frowning. Not anyone can say that, you know. See you around.
And with that said, Qrow proceeds to walk away, sheathing Harbinger, but Luke reaches out.
Luke: Wait! You're my dad's…! You're my…!
Qrow doesn't say anything for a moment. Then, he slightly turns his head.
Qrow: Just remember, kid, you've still got a long way to go. He turns around with a stern look. And don't think for a second that graduating from Hexside, being able to transform into a devil, and having your own staff means you're done. Every day out here is worth a week in there and the Owl House. You're gonna go far, kid. You and your pals. But only if you keep learning, if you never stop moving forward.
Luke and Amity both take time to let Qrow's words of wisdom sink in, taking it to heart, especially Luke, who thinks about everything his uncle has just told him.
Luke: Uncle…
Qrow: Qrow grins again, giving a two-fingered salute. Hmph. Catch you later, kiddo. I'll be seeing you real soon.
And with that, Qrow morphs into his Corvid form and flies away.
Luke and Amity both let out a sigh, dropping down in relief.
Luke: That… was close. Luke takes hold of Amity's hand, causing her to smile. Thanks, Ams. You really saved my neck back there.
Amity: You saved me, too.
Luke: Still, is there any way I can pay you back for your troubles?
Amity: Maybe… you can tell me about this.
Amity pulls out Luke's phone, with the video still displayed on the screen. Luke recoils in horror, now realizing he left his phone at Hexside, and Amity found it.
Amity: Don't worry. I haven't watched it. But... you did finish the portal door. You did see your mom. Luke saddens, looking away from Amity and hugging his knees. And… it looks like it didn't go well.
Luke: Sorry.
Amity: I know this situation is crazy, and I'm okay taking things one day at a time. But I can't help if I don't know what's going on.
Luke: You just looked so hopeful. You were even learning Spanish. And I thought if I helped out Kikimora, maybe there'd be hope for me and my mom.
Amity clutches her boyfriend's hand, giving a warm smile as she turns him to face her.
Amity: Remember what Qrow said, Luke. Talk about it with the people you trust most, the people who care about you. Luke widens his eyes, and Amity rubs his face. I care so much for you, Luke. You're my sweet blue-haired gogglehead.
Luke: Luke feels his heart melt. Amity…
Amity: The question is: do you trust me?
Luke: Of course, I trust you.
Amity hands his phone back, smiling kindly.
Amity: Tell me what happened.
Luke is hesitant at first, but after remembering Qrow's words and how much he can trust Amity and the people he loves, he smiles acceptingly at his girlfriend.
Luke: Okay.
As Luke talks, he and Amity are walking across the docks, holding hands and making their way back to the parade.
Luke: So, I finished the door. But it didn't look like the old portal. It was totally messed up. I don't think it was the Titan Blood. I may have missed something. When we opened it…
As they walk to the parade, Luke explains everything to Amity: his trip to the Realm In-Between, Vee taking his place in the Human Realm, the events that happened that day, telling Camila the truth, accidentally hurting her feelings, and his promise to stay in the Human Realm to his mom. And Amity does her best to comfort him.
Coven Scouts hose down the now flaming effigy of Belos after finally bringing it down with Eberwolf in his regular form, crawling around, sniffing for a scent, only to be unable to determine the right one. King and Hooty are both cloaked and escape into the crowd, giggling to each other.
Hunter, Kikimora, Qrow, Raine, Darius, Eberwolf, and Terra stand on a podium in front of a crowd. They all wave to the crowd, except a doubtful Kikimora. Terra nudges the gremlin, and she quickly waves back along with Hunter, Darius, and Eberwolf while Raine drinks his tea and Qrow drinks beer from his trademark bottle.
Eda, Luke, Amity, Repede, and Ghost are sitting on a roof, looking dejected over their failure today. King and Hooty climb up, joining them, and Hooty stretches out so that King can sit on him. Eda holds her recording, and Amity leans on her boyfriend. Repede and Ghost are lying next to each other.
Eda: I'm guessing it didn't work out with Kikimora?
Luke: Total bust. You were right about her in the end, Eda. The little shrimp ended up choosing Belos over her family in the end and double-crossed us. She's made her choice.
Eda: Sorry, kid. I know how much this all meant to you.
Luke: You know, as much it bums me out, it's not all that bad. I don't know if I can make things right with my mom. He smiles at his teacher, friends, palismen, and girlfriend, wrapping an arm around her. But you guys being here for me is enough to give me hope.
Everyone smiles, happy to see Luke feeling more optimistic. He then looks at Eda.
Luke: And I'm also guessing it didn't work out with Raine?
Eda: Also, a total bust.
Luke: Guess we're both failures, huh, teach?
Eda smiles gratefully at her apprentice/child.
Kikimora anxiously walks up to the mic.
Kikimora: Um… thank you, Bonesborough, for joining us during this year's Coven Day Parade. This year is extra special because the Emperor himself has an announcement to make.
A massive projection of Emperor Belos appears behind the podium. He rises, presenting himself to the crowd, all roaring with cheers at the sight of their beloved emperor.
Belos: Thank you, everyone! Together we are perfecting the Coven System as the Titan intended.
Head Witch Graye is at a podium in Latissa, where people are also watching and listening to Belos speak.
Belos: The Day of Unity will be in exactly one month, when the tide is at its lowest and the moon obscures the sun.
Lilith and Gwen watch everything from home on a crystal ball with worried looks.
Belos: At that time, we will journey to the head of the Isles, and there, the worthy shall inherit a utopia free of wild magic.
The crowd gasps as a depiction of the Day of Unity is presented via a banner. Luke and the gang gasp, too, having heard this from Sparda's final message.
King: Free of wild magic? How's he supposed to do that?
Luke: That's the same thing my dad said in his message.
Amity: But he also said it's a lie. Belos has some sort of grand spell planned for the Day of Unity.
Eda: Raine told me that, too. And it involves all the Coven Heads being there.
Qrow looks at this banner, knowing it's nothing but lies. The very sight of it and hearing his brother's murderer continuing this act fills him with rage, causing him to clench his fists hard.
Belos: Belos reappears. There is one more thing I'd like to share with you. I've always hidden my face, out of fear. But because of your support, I can finally take off this mask.
Eda blows a raspberry as Belos slowly reaches for his mask.
Eda: So phony. He's just trying to distract us from his crazy utopia talk! Too bad it won't work.
She's proven wrong when the crowd gasps in awe. Belos removes his mask, showing his true face to the crowd for the first time ever, giving them a warm, grateful smile.
Belos: Thank you, Boiling Isles.
Luke: So, that's Belos' true face.
The crowd erupts with cheers, blindly trusting Belos more than ever.
Willow (with braided hair, courtesy of Amity) and Gus watch the parade from the former's scroll, gasping at Belos' true face but quickly become unimpressed.
Willow and Gus: Eh.
Belos: Happy Coven Day, everyone!
The projection of Belos explodes into fireworks. The crowd begins chanting Belos' name. Luke, Amity, Eda, King, and Hooty are anything but happy. They're more worried than ever about Belos' plans.
Amity: Is… Belos planning something? Amity clutches her boyfriend's hand. And why did he say he's going to meet you again? Didn't we already meet him? What else don't we know? What's gonna happen?
Luke calms her down, clutching his girlfriend's hand, too, and wrapping an arm around her as she leans on him.
Luke: I don't know, hermosa. Whatever Belos is planning is why my old man rebelled against him. I don't know what's gonna happen. But for now... we'll take things one day at a time.
Everyone continues chanting Belos' name, not knowing what his true objectives might be.
Belos claims the Day of Unity will free the world from Wild Magic. But Sparda and Darkwing knew better. And now, so does his son, Luke. What is the Day of Unity all about? Will Luke find the answers before it's too late?
Up next, Luke and Lilith take a trip to the past to find Philip Wittebane and find out how he made his portal door. Unfortunately, they find out the hard way that he's not who they thought he was or as noble as they'd like to believe. And Eda is seeing her dad, Dell Clawthorne, for the first time in years.
