- Kara -
Peaking a glance at my left I quickly look back towards the board.
Sven's been glancing an awful lot at me. I'm not sure what's got him entranced. Maybe my performance at the practical test?
…..No, it shouldn't be, he's already seen how strong I am during the entrance exam. Then how come-
"I am coming through the door-"
The door slams open!
"LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!"
That's so not a normal person's entrance!
Despite all the buzzing excitement and talk in the room being extra loud due to my senses I filter them out as I scrutinize the number one hero.
All Might is the strongest, but he falls short when I compare him to Clark. Not that it makes him any less, it'd be ironic if me to think that when I've been experiencing that sort of criticism my whole life.
Any threads about me online would always devolve to power levels and how I'm weaker than Clark despite being his cousin. Not the most uplifting thing.
Despite Clark's efforts to always remind me it's not about my strength but my heart, it didn't really make me feel that much better.
I didn't mean to come here, if it weren't for that stupid scientist and his stupid weird portal. But at least for however long I'm here for, maybe I can be their Clark.
As I tune back in All Might finishes explaining that our requested costumes are completed. I look to the left and see several protruding suitcases numbered based on our seating numbers.
I feel a hint of nervousness when I think about my costume. While I was initially going to go with the classic red and blue costume albeit with pants instead of a red skirt. I ended up deciding to do something more original.
While it first started as one or two small changes like adding shoulder pads here and a little bit of gold around house El's symbol. By the end the costume ended up looking different but unique.
Getting up to follow the rest of class, I'm stopped as a hand grabs my arm from behind.
"Hey Kara, do you mind if we talk for a quick sec, before we go with the rest of the class?" Sven asks.
"Uhm.." I take a glance at the door to find no one there waiting for us to go. He said it'd be quick, I'm sure we'll be able to catch up.
"Yeah sure! We shouldn't take too long though. We don't want to get in trouble on our first day" I say with a laugh. To which he nods.
I don't mind being a little late though, after all Sven's my first friend here and who knows this might be an important building block for the future of our friendship-
"Does the name Superman mean anything to you?"
….what?
-Sven -
"Yeah sure! We just shouldn't take too long. We shouldn't get in trouble on our first day" Kara says with a laugh.
All Might was leading the students and he didn't ask anyone to stay at the back to make sure all the students were with him. His teacher act could definitely use some work, though I don't blame him for expecting everyone to enthusiastically follow.
Taking a breath I ask-
"Does the name Superman mean anything to you?"
She blinks owlishly, I can almost see the gears halt in her head. Well looks like I got an answer.
Her lips part slightly as she tries to speak but seemingly can't, and a befuddled look graces her face.
"I think that answers that question" I chuckle, this seems to snap her out of her confusion. Enough to at least voice her confusion.
"H-How do you-"
"I can explain now but I'm it won't take a short time. And by then we probably won't be able to see the rest of the class." It would also be nice to get a little more time to rehearse what I'll be saying as an explanation.
A pensive frown adorns her face.
"Also, I don't know about you, but I wasn't paying attention, so I have no idea where they're going." I give her a wry smile.
Her features relax as she sighs with a smile.
"Fine, but we're having a talk after class alright?"
Giving her a thumbs up, I start making my way out of class and she follows. Though it's not loud, I can somewhat hear the chattering of the class. But before I can exactly settle on the direction it's coming from Kara starts moving.
Right, super senses.
I just follow her as we walk quickly and find out way to the back of our class. Just before they enter a large elevator.
Heading towards our locker rooms, everyone's has a briefcase in hand. They're all excited to put on their hero costumes which makes it quite a shame that I'm walking with them empty handed.
I never really got around to sending a design to UA for my costume. I also wasn't really thinking about it anyways with everything going on. Though the only thing I did ask for was a sturdier short sword and good secure scabbard too.
Walking into the observation room I take a minute to checkout everyone's costumes.
They're basically the same as they were in canon but it's still cool seeing them in real life.
Izumis costume looks a lot better than canon Midoriya's initial costume. Not sure if it's different because of All Might's fatherly influence or her being a girl and having more style sense. Her costume 's color scheme is different, mainly being black with accents of dark green on the traps, gauntlets, legs, and shoes. She also has a black cape behind her and no bunny hood.
And then there's Kara, her costumes not what I expected to say the least. It's far from the typical one I'd think she'd wear. The main color scheme is still the same but there's some bits of gold. On her ab muscles, the outside of her legs, some lines under her knees, and inside the S logo instead of the normal red. Her costume is also sleeveless, with gold metal shoulder pads. it has an almost armor look to it.
While I'm not a big fan of Supergirl and have barely seen or read any of her stories. I am a big gamer. And I've played many fighter games in my life, be it with friends or without. One of which was the injustice series. And I'm sure I've seen this in that game….actually I think Supergirl also had short hair there…maybe?
Eyeing the rest of the costumes, they seem identical to canon.
As everyone's drawing lots I start thinking about this system. So far, I noticed quests are rare and few in between. And those few instances have mainly been moments from the show, so called canon events. Like the sludge incident and the entrance exam.
So, if the trend that I'm seeing is true. Then I might be seeing a quest pop up soon.
As the final pair of students get matched up, we get randomly assigned as "villains" and "heroes". I look and find Kirishima listed as my partner. Looking around I see him walking towards me with a grin on his face.
"Hey, I'm Eijiro Kirishima! It's nice to meet you bro!"
"Sven Yagi, nice to meet you too."
After exchanging pleasantries I turn to look at the match randomizer and look for our team on the screen. After a bit I spot our opponent team and an akward grin finds it's way on my face.
Team J Sven Yagi & Eijiro Kirishima (Villains)
VS
Team D Katsuki Bakugou & Izumi Yagi (Heroes)
I let out deep breath
This is gonna be a long day.
Feeling someones eyes on me I quickly find the duo. Izumi is grinning at me with a challenging look in her eyes, while Bakugou is glaring hard
Maybe I should try and not do this, I don't know about eating a full explosion blast from those gauntlets of his. Looking back at All Might, I see his grin widening just a bit at the first match up. I release a long, exasperated sigh, doesn't look like there's getting out of this-
[New Quest]
Battle Trial!
Objective: Make a strong first impression! You're up against two acknowledged power houses of the class who have both scored in the top 3 in the entrance exam.
Objective: Defend the bomb for 10 minutes
Reward: 2 rolls
Bonus Objective 1 : Capture Izumi Yagi
Reward: 1 roll
Bonus Objective 2: Capture Katsuki Bakugou
Reward: 1 roll
I can get 4 rolls?!
Long live the UA battle trials arc.
-10 Minutes Later-
Ok, maybe there's a reason there's such a substantial reward.
The objectives aren't going to be that easy to complete after all. Bakugo is Bakugo, there isn't much to say about the walking bomb with a short fuse.
And while Izumi still hasn't gotten the hang of controlling her "mutation", in terms of applying it to her body, she can still apply it to her barriers. Which in a way is kind of scarier since the only limitation there is how much power the barrier can handle before breaking, according to Izumi that being around 30-40%.
The higher the power the quicker the barrier explodes.
At this point me and Kirishima are in the top floor of the building next to the bomb.
"So you got a plan Yagi or is it just gonna be a manly brawl?"
Looking at the large bomb I go to lift it up.
It's light, probably 10 or 15 kilos. I start looking around the room, my eyes mainly fixed on the large pillars.
I reach for the earbud and press on it.
"Hey, All Might?"
"Yes, Young Yagi?"
"Is this comm separate from the heroes' one?"
"Yes! You can speak without worries!"
"Alright then, is it against the rules to move the bomb?"
-Izumi -
Walking towards the building, I form a small force field around my hand and trickle power from one for all to it.
The night Sven told me about his quirk, he also asked about how my quirk mutated. We talked a lot and he gave me good advice about it. Holding back how much power I exert with one for all.
It's been really helpful, though it's still awkward when I pump one for all into my body. Makes me feel sluggish.
I shudder when I recall the state of my arm after the entrance exam. All purple bruised and battered. At least until recovery girl got to me. Hopefully I'll never have to use OFA at a 100% till my body adapts to it.
Because I really don't want to get hideous scars before I even get into my twenties.
As we reach the building we wait outside for the battle start signal.
I glance to the side and see an impatient looking Bakugo.
"You seem ready to blast off, you got a plan?"
He looks at me for a second before scoffing.
"I'll just demolish them. That's the damn plan."
I hum. "Might not be that easy"
He stays silent for a bit. Weird I would've expected another come back-
"What the hells up with your brother moss head? Since when's he got a quirk?!"
"Sven only recently awakened his quirk. If you want more details you'll have to ask him, it's not my story to share." I shake my head
Bakugo grits his teeth and furrows his brows.
"BATTLE START"
Bakugo blasts off into the building immediately.
I sigh as I form to small force fields on both my fists and run in after him.
Let's see what you've come up with Sven!
-All Might -
As I watch Sven instruct Young Kirishima on where to place the bomb, I second guess my decision to allow them to move the bomb around.
They place the bomb behind one of the large pillars in the left corner of the room. At an angle that would hide it from anyone at the entrance, though it wouldn't do much if they delved deeper into the room.
As soon as they finish deciding the exact spot for the bomb (with Sven standing at the front of the room to make sure it's hidden) both bolt out of the room. As they go a floor lower, Young Kirishima stays there as the teammates share a nod.
"They're splitting up? That doesn't seem like a wise decision."
"You are correct Young Yaoyorozu, though it seems like they have a plan."
Young Yaoyorozu remains silent, seemingly analyzing the supposed plan Sven has.
As I look at the side at the timer with a few seconds left I get ready to speak into the microphone.
Sven continues going down until he reaches one floor above the ground floor. And just as he reaches it the preparation timer finishes-
"BATTLE START!"
Let's see what Sven has planned to beat Izumi and young Bakugou.
-Sven POV-
"BATTLE START!"
I can already hear the small explosions on the ground floor. Alright, looks like Bakugo's rushing in as planned.
I wait in the middle of the second floor. I could ambush him at the entrance of the floor, but for one I'm not even sure where that'll be since this floor is different than the top 2 floors. It's more like a maze than a big room with many pillars. I also don't know how an ambush would workout for me with Bakugo. At the very least I remember early on from the anime how Midoriya won this fight.
The sound of explosions gets louder and louder as Bakugo rounds the corner and gets on the second floor. His eyes lock onto mine and he starts flying directly at me.
"DIE!"
He throws a big right swing with a blast following it.
I dive in grabbing his right arm. I pivot immediately and throw him over my shoulder, slamming him into the ground.
I go to punch him, though he's quick to recover as he already has a hand coming up to blast me.
I commit to my punch, close my eyes, and connect my fist with his nose, slamming my fist in his head while tanking the blast he throws. I get another punch in before his blasts of his left side into a side roll to dodge the third punch.
Even though I had my eyes closed they're still stinging, as well as light burns all over my face.
Izumi's caught up now and already has already placed a barrier around me.
"Give up Sven, or Bakugo will blast you as soon as I let go of my barrier"
As I push my hands against the barrier and it refuses to budge. I could keep attacking it till she loses concentration but that's not the fight I'm trying to have anyways. I take a deep breath, now let's see if the plan works.
"Wow, not bad. Though I did expect I'd lose against you Izumi" I said with a smile
Izumi furrows her eye brows.
"The fuck is that supposed to mean?" Bakugo spits out, though it sounds a little nasally since he's holding his bleeding nose.
"Hm?" I perk up like I just noticed him. "Oh, well I doubt I would've lost against you. Even now you need Izumi to restrain me to get a solid attack on me."
I could see the veins begin to pop as he clenches his jaw. Izumi noticing what I'm doing quickly tried to interject.
"Bakugo! He's just trying-"
"Shut the hell up moss head. You think you're stronger than me you damn extra?!"
I let the following silence stretch on for a bit before giving him an innocent look and smile.
"Of course, after all you're so weak and predictable."
Bakugo looks like a volcano about to erupt.
After a few moments of silence between us, he speaks to Izumi without looking at her.
"Oi moss head. Get rid of that bubble and piss off. You deal with shitty hair and the bomb."
Izumi sighs in defeat and tilts her head up while massaging her forehead, probably from the headache her teammate is causing her. We both have known him long enough to know if she were to continue helping him, he might just start attacking her as well, even if she's his teammate.
After a few seconds of mental deliberation, Izumi dispels the barrier and runs on ahead intent on finding the staircase that leads to the third floor, where Kirishima is waiting.
"Heads up, Izumi's heading up. She'll be on you soon." I quickly give him a heads up with the comms.
As I look away from Izumi and back at Bakugo he has a snarl on his face.
"Where the hell do you think you're looking you damn extra?! You think because you got your hands on some D-List quirk you're fucking better than me?!"
He crouches low and small cackles are leaving his palm. I pull out my short sword.
As he begins flying towards me, I slash and send a large cleave that covers the whole corridor. I immediately follow it with another slash that's much higher.
As he does an arial maneuver over the first cleave, I send another two cleaves in the shape of an X hurling towards him.
He does a quick maneuver down to avoid the higher second cleave and blasts himself to the side into a wall to dodge the last two cleaves.
He huffs as he glares at me while I smirk and slash the air two more times.
Bakugo gets back into action and as he dodges the cleaves and slowly makes his way towards me. Though he's looking more haggard by the minute since the size of the attacks combined with a small corridor forces him to collide into the walls when he dodges.
I narrow my eyes; he's barely used his quirk besides the first few arial maneuvers. He's mostly dodging normally…..I doubt he's gonna use the guantless but it still seems like he's planning some-
With a feral grin, Bakugo raises both his palms towards me and lets out a huge blast.
I turn around the corner I positioned myself next to and avoid the blast. Didn't think he was able to do blasts like that this early on.
I come back in and with the smoke covering my vision, before I can even swing my sword, Bakugo emerges from the smoke and delivers a kick powered up by an explosion to my side. I barely block it in time though it still sends me flying into the hallway I just hid in. I lose my grip on my short sword but it's thrown into the hallway with me.
As I roll and go to stand back up, he's already on top of me, aiming an explosion at me I wince in anticipation only to get hit by a face full of smoke before suddenly feeling a burning pain hit my back.
This throws me a few feet away. I cough and wince as I stand and turn around to face him. Looks like he faked an explosion while using his aerial momentum to get behind me.
"So you still think you're worth shit, you lousy extra?!"
As he gloats, I spot my sword a few feet to my right. I throw a cleave with my hand at him and dive to grab the sword.
He jumps over the cleave and flies at me. I swing the sword and let off a blunt but very quick cleave. He tries to move laterally but isn't fast enough and the cleave hits him on his right collar bone.
As he staggers, I immediately follow it up with a horizontal cleave and run in as it connects. I attempt to slam the flat side of sword against his head, but he ducks his head to the side so it only grazes. But the kick I throw at his liver fully connects.
As he winces, I drop my sword and throw a right hook which lands on his chin.
As he staggers and falls back I quickly run at him with the capture tape out. And as soon as I get one line wrapped around him-
"Bakugou Katsuki Captured!"
1 roll, 3 more to go!
Though it merely takes a moment for the giddiness to vanish.
"The bomb has been captured! The hero team wins!"
…huh?
Shit, I took too long.
I bite my lower lip.
Quest Complete
Objective Failed
Bonus Objective 1 Failed
Bonus Objective 2 Completed
Reward: 1 roll
Deep breaths Sven, deep breaths.
This could've been worse.
I take another deep breath
I could've not gotten any rolls at all…
I take another deep breath….it doesn't help at all.
AN: We're baaack! This has been in the draft stage for a while. Mainly since I wasn't really that interested in the battle trial mini arc, but it's finally done!
Leave a review, I always enjoy reading them!
