The start, in another world.
I was sitting behind my desk at work. Holding my head with both hands, tears wanting to come out. Why, I feel so Cheated.
I died at the age of 21, right when I was going to graduate from college. I had a life that felt like I was cursed with bad luck. And as far back as I can remember. Around the age of 5 or 6, I would always say at night if there were a god I hope that all this bad luck means in my next life I can get some benefits.
It felt weird like I was in a dream I could remember but couldn't recall the face, voice, or who I talked to.
"So, I Died due to a bombing?" I asked in disbelief.
"Yes, like I was saying, you can also reincarnate if you so wish." His voice sounded mystical in my mind.
"Alright, so can I pick where I reincarnate?" I asked with hope increasing in my voice.
"No, I am sending you to a world that is close to destruction. And sending you there will allow me to interfere enough to fix it." He said with a tone saying it cannot be changed.
"So, do I have to help save the world? What do I get out of this?" I asked with a bit of excitement dying.
"No, you don't need to do anything. You just need to be sent to that world. And you get a second life with all your memories." he said plainly.
"Ok, um so um what kind of world am I going to? Am I going to be conscience while being a baby?" I asked while shifting around nervously.
"The world is a world similar to what you read about. Overlord, a dystopian world and you can even go to the new world with Satoru Suzuki. And if you want, I can let you gain conscience after you grow up." He spoke.
"Overlord, wait dystopian! N-no I d-don't want to suffer." I said panicked. "But, getting all that power" I whispered thinking about it. "What no, suffering there, let alone being a woman will make it worse there. No, thanks!" I said with determination.
"You know the last life you lived, wishing to continually get unlucky, to gain some extra benefits alongside the benefits you would have gotten. Means that you can have it easier until the transfer unless you choose to stay in that world with the perks that only work in that world," he said with confidence it will change my mind.
I wished for my unluckiness. I thought to myself. I guess I kinda did. "Benefits, what kind?" I asked once again, some hope coming back.
"It is up to you, anything as long as you still have karma to use up," he said.
"Oh, well can I..."
Sitting there, hands on my head. This is so not fair, this is so not fair, this is so not fair! I thought repeating it over and over in my head.
Simply, I asked to have an easy life till the transfer, to be specific.
1. Infinite money was denied so instead, a rich family and everything I bought in Yggdrasil I would just get 5 times.
2. Get 2 world items (perks for bad luck in my past life). 1st is a ring that gives the wearer a solid 175% mana increase with a 10% mana re-gen. increase. For example, if I had 100 mana it would be 275. 10 mana re-gen a minute would be 11 mana re-gen. 2nd chain gloves grant the wearer the ability to create illusions and also it helps with scrying.
3. I would like to get close to Satoru Suzuki.
4. I want a photographic memory just to have an easier time learning.
5. The ability to help me find world items. Was allowed but I had to be in close proximity.
6. Wanted good luck. Was only allowed in the game sadly.
7. Lastly, I did not want to go through the humiliation of growing up or live through that hell, so I asked to regain my conscience 3 years before the game shuts down. 1 year before the announcement of Its shutdown.
1. If they did loot boxes. And I would buy 10 I would get 50. It was agreed but there was a limit especially if it's noticeable like the pay-to-win extra ring or accessory slots. Even NPC levels once I'm in a clan. But that does not matter since I'm in a rich family I would just spend more money on those things.
2. The ring looks like 2 gold dragons wrapping themselves around the finger with a beautiful blood-crimson ruby fitting right on their clawed hand and under their heads. The gloved chains don't even look like gloves. their like claw tip with chains linked up to a bracelet.
They are black, Blood-crimson rubies sitting on each finger close to where the fingernails would be. A small chain runs up the finger to the back of the palm, where there is chainmail covering the entire back of your hands. Five Blood-crimson rubies sit there, four of them close to the knuckle joints, and one bigger one in the middle.
More small chains run a bit more to a chainmail bracelet. The chainmail bracelet covers about 2 to 3" from your wrist. Where another crimson ruby sits.
And I feel cheated about the rest of my benefits. It's just not fair. I guess it had too much hope that my auto-pilot mode would do most of the lifting.
Lifting my head looking around the office. I mean sure I wanted to be close to Satoru Suzuki. But I'm his boss. I wanted to befriend him in the game. I thought to myself with a heavy heart.
And about that going through my memories, I'm not even playing the damn game! All those missed limited loot boxes. Argh why, just why! I Whined to myself.
I was sent and used so my family would create items to clean the world. My family got rich and is powerful.
So, then the unconscious me helped them. And made a lot of money so I don't even need to use my family money. Not only that but the last memory I have right before gaining consciousness. Is calling Satoru to my office. To ask why he is working too slowly this week.
If I'm not mistaken sometime this week they were or are getting raided by 1500 players. So, my guess is that.
So, my mind is on overdrive to make a plan to get into Yggdrasil late. Figure out how to get my 2 world items that were promised, and how the hell am I going to deal with this meeting with Satoru?
So apparently, he has worked for me for 5 years since my family gave me this Company for me to manage. And I am 21 years old so imagine that now, will you?
Imagine a 16-year-old becoming your boss. So basically, I was hard on all of them because I did not want to be looked down upon. Suzuki Satoru is almost 12 years older than me too.
I also have him doing management work, work I am supposed to be doing, and he does not make what I make. At least he is making about 30% more than if he was not working for me. But still getting underpaid.
And I'm even making more money with a few inventions I helped create.
I hear a knock on the door. That instantly makes me sit up straight. And I try my best to hide my nervousness. "Come in," I said in a plain stoic tone.
Hmm here goes, wonder what he looks like? Watching the door open Satoru walks in. closing the door behind him. "You called for me?" he asked not showing any nervousness, panic, or fear.
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! "Yes, come have a seat," I said hiding my surprise with a stoic tone.
Watching him walk and take a seat. He is tall, 6 feet maybe, my guess is around 6'2". He has medium-length dark-black hair. It covers his ears; it does not cover his dark-brown eyes, and he is clean-shaven. He looks like he is in his mid to late 20s. Even though he is around 32 years if I remember correctly.
Even though he looks skinny, maybe because he does not eat well. but since he makes more money, I'm guessing that's why he does not look that scrawny.
You know when I watched the show and saw him walking around as a skeleton? I always thought the way he carries himself was to play the overlord, king, God-like aura.
But what I am seeing is that just the way he normally walks. Seems like he also sits properly. Man, he looks like he is a noble or something right out of a manga.
As soon as he sat down, I asked, "I called you in because it seems like you're late on a few reports, is there a specific reason for it?"
"No, I apologize for that. It is just that some important stuff came up it ended up distracting me." He said with an apologetic tone. "You do not need to worry. what distracted me is over. I should be able to work normally now."
"Hmm, very well. I will give you a 15% pay increase. Keep doing a good job. That is all you can go back to work now," I said hoping to get this over with.
He stood up "Thank you for the raise, I'll be off then." He said in a plain tone not giving away any sort of emotion.
He walked at a normal pace. Opened the door walked out and closed it.
As soon as it closed, I put my head down on my desk with my arm surrounding my head. "What the hell, did I just give him a random pay raise? That was just weird, right?" I whispered to myself.
Plus wasn't that like really short, did I mess up? Did I fail to be boss-like? I thought to myself feeling embarrassed.
Ok, snap out of it. Time to work hard. I got onto my computer then opened the web browser and typed in Yggdrasil.
He closed the door behind himself. What the hell, not only did I not get in trouble, but I got a raise. Wait, what, why! he thought to himself.
-A few minutes earlier. -
Damn it, I just got a message from the boss she said she wanted to speak to me right now. Ok, calm down it won't be that bad. She treats everyone like they are actual humans so, maybe it will be just a warning. Maybe she will just say if I don't get my shit together, she will cut my pay. He thought to himself while walking to the office.
Knocking on the door "Come in" a serious-sounding voice came from within. Oh shit, I have never heard her tone like that. Usually, it's a tone of I don't care what's going on I can't be bothered.
Opening the door, I made my way in. "You called for me," I asked in a normal tone. Hoping that my panic does not show.
"Yes, come have a seat." She said in a cold tone stretching her hand out to the chair in front of the desk. She is looking straight at me. Shit shit shit!
Walking to the chair, oh shit, I'm so going to get fired, fuck! Ok, I will come up with some random bullshit, hope this works. Should I say I am not feeling well, so my work was bad?
Damn it, screw those 1500 players they might have lost. But if I get fired, they fucking won. I'll just say a half-truth. Something like some shit came up, I had to deal with it.
As soon as I sat down, "I called you in because it seems like you're late on a few reports. Is there a specific reason for it?" She asked in a cold tone.
Since I looked at the seat while sitting. When I looked up, I saw her looking straight at me. Bull, bullshit, you got to bullshit your way out of this!
"No, I apologize for that. It is just that some important stuff came up. It ended up distracting me." I said while trying not to lose it.
"You do not need to worry, what distracted me is over I should be able to work normally now," I said hoping for my livelihood she did not ask what.
I can't just say it because of a game. Please don't ask, please don't ask! I thought to myself.
"Hmm, very well. I will give you a 15% pay increase. Keep doing a good job. That is all you can go back to work now." She said in a tone as if she did not care anymore and just wanted to get this over with.
Wait, what? She is back to her normal tone. Did I escape?
I got up before she changed her mind or asked anything. Else? Wait a 15% pay raise. "Thank you for the raise, I'll be off then," I said in a plain tone trying not to give away any sort of emotion. With a short bow, then I turned to leave.
Don't panic, walk normally, don't rush out. I thought to myself.
-Back to the present. -
I closed the door behind myself. What the hell, not only did I not get in trouble, but I got a raise. Wait, what, why! he thought to himself.
When I get home. I'm going to buy some loot boxes. With this luck I have, maybe I can get the ring, Shooting Star. This won't take all my year-end bonuses, right? I told myself hoping for the RNG goddess to be on my side.
After speaking with Suzuki Satoru. I got on my computer.
After searching Yggdrasil. I realized they just released the loot box with the Shooting Star ring. Since 2 days ago by the looks of it. The offer will stay for 2 months. Nice, I got to create my account, create my character, and grind like these are the last 3 years of my life. Well, I guess they are, ha-ha. I laughed to myself.
As soon as I got home. I went to the VR machine. At least I have one. I guess all I need to do is buy the game and let it download. I told myself.
After buying it and started the download. I headed to cook dinner. After I finished eating, I went back to the VR machine. Oh, seems like it is 90% done, good. I thought to myself excited to get into it.
A quick shower won't hurt. I also won't need to work the next 2 days it's the weekend. Also, won't be helping out with the whole fixing this world. I'll leave it to my family.
About that huh? Will I miss them when I transfer? Probably not, it's not like we get along too much. I can recall one of my memories that we had a small falling out. Due to me making a fit of not wanting an arranged marriage.
I mean seriously the dude was 30 years older than me. It was a competitor. It would have made it easier to gain money and power if I were to have married. Thankfully I started helping create the devices that would help clean the world. Mostly it was programming.
"Alright, enough of those depressing thoughts. I'm done taking a shower. It is time to game." I said hyping myself up.
"Link start. Haha ok, ok, wonder how it will feel like. Let's start" I said out loud with a big grin on my face.
Wow, that's a lot of races, hmm, I think I will go with a fox demon. When I researched it, I saw that later on, I could get a humanoid form. Plus, I get to have Fluffy tails, Win win.
As soon as I chose it. A create avatar popped up. After I was done editing it. What I saw was a Cute black Kitsune, it had a single black tail with a red tip. Its paws were read as if it was wearing red socks. It also had red on the tip of the ears. Throughout the black fur, you can see some tad bit of red sheen barely noticeable. You can also see its crimson-red eyes, with a Vertical slit.
"Ok, that took me like 8 hours. Hmm definitely worth the time gotta look awesome right?" I told myself that it was not a waste of time. Yep, yep not a waste of time hehe.
It's time to start my adventure!

Hello guys, first time writing, is this an ok Length? or too short? To long?
Is it understandable? Did I not give enough info or too much, let me know.
I tried to fix my spelling and punctuation because to be honest here my reading a writing are my worst subjects.
Hope you guys enjoyed it. I'll try to squeeze in a chapter a month at least.
