Hello, everyone! Before diving into the story, I'd like to clarify something since there's been some confusion about the character "Naomi." Let me take a moment to explain who she is and why she's in this fanfiction.
Naomi is my OC—short for "Original Character." As I mentioned in Chapter 2, she's a character I created. While she's not the main character like in many other fanfics, I included her as a personal touch to this fandom. Naomi represents my creative vision, and in a way, I imagine myself as her.
Naomi is a static character, and her personality will unfold through the narrative.
Also, I'd like to thank you all for the kind reviews! This is my first time writing a story—let alone a fanfiction. There will likely be errors here and there, but I promise to do my best to improve.
Now, without further ado, on to Chapter 3!
Chapter 3Magnolia, Fiore
Within an hour, everyone was packed and ready to head out to their assigned destinations. The guild waited outside Fairy Hills for Wendy, Carla, and Chelia, eager to see them off as they ventured into another world. Since Lamia Scale members were present, Lyon decided to join Team D (Juvia, Cana, Elfman, and Gildarts), while Sherry and Master Ooba returned to Lamia Scale to assist from their guild.
Each team was provided with a compact communication lacrima, crafted by Warren Rocko, to stay connected. However, concerns lingered about the portal. Unlike normal portals, which closed after a wizard passed through, this one remained open. Either Ivan didn't know how to close it, or the new world contained just enough Ethernano to sustain it temporarily.
Porlyusica prepared magic pills for emergencies, should their magic weaken or stop functioning entirely. The pills were to be used sparingly, similar to the situation in Edolas.
"Is everyone set?" Makarov called out. The teams nodded in unison. "Now we just need the girls," he added, referring to Wendy, Chelia, and Carla.
"Principal Nezu, can you explain where we'll be staying in your world?" Mirajane asked.
"Of course," Nezu replied. "There's a safe house near the school campus. It's fully equipped with everything you'll need. You four will stay there, while Ms. Wendy and Ms. Chelia will reside in the student dorms, as they'll be enrolling at the academy."
Mirajane nodded. "That sounds good."
Lucy, deep in thought, furrowed her brow. "There's something I've been wondering," she said aloud.
"What is it, Luce?" Natsu asked.
"Well, Ivan sent clones of himself. How will we know if we're facing the real one or just a fake?"
Levy chimed in, "I read about this! Clones often have weak points that mirror human vulnerabilities. Strike those points, and the clone will disappear. For example: the windpipe, solar plexus, groin, knees, or ears. There are more, but I can't recall them all."
"Great job, Levy," Naomi said, crossing her arms. "I see you've been sneaking peeks at my notes. And don't think I haven't noticed some of my books mysteriously disappearing."
Levy smirked. "I learned from the best when it comes to being sneaky, MiMi. Besides, who wouldn't? Your place is basically a paradise for us bookworms."
"I need to sneak in with you next time, levy" Lucy whispered
"As long as you guys return them, you're welcome anytime" Naomi stated.
Principal Nezu approached Lucy, Natsu, and Happy, bowing slightly. "Excuse me for interrupting, but I wanted to thank you for taking me to medical care earlier. I greatly appreciate your kindness."
"Oh, no problem at all," Lucy replied warmly.
"I'm Natsu Dragneel."
"And I'm Happy!" the blue cat exclaimed, spreading his wings.
Nezu tilted his head curiously. "I can sense your enthusiasm, but what's your name?"
Lucy and Natsu chuckled. "No, that's actually his name—Happy," Lucy explained.
"Oh! My apologies for the misunderstanding," Nezu said, embarrassed. "Thank you again for your help."
"You're welcome. By the way," Lucy asked, crouching to meet Nezu's gaze, "how do quirks work in your world?"
Levy joined them, equally intrigued. "Yes, I've been wondering the same thing."
As the rest of the guild gathered around, Nezu explained. "A quirk is a superhuman ability that manifests in individuals. The first recorded quirk appeared in a newborn who could emit light from their body. A person's likelihood of developing a quirk is tied to their skeletal structure—those with only one joint in their pinky toe will develop quirks, while those with two joints will not.
"As for myself, I'm an extremely rare case: an animal with a quirk. I gained consciousness through experimentation, though my origins have left me with...complicated feelings."
Just as Erza and Gajeel began questioning Nezu about heroes and their abilities, Wendy, Carla, and Chelia arrived, suitcases in hand.
"Perfect timing," Naomi said. "Now, Principal Nezu, I'm going to need your memory for a moment."
Nezu blinked in confusion. "My memory?"
Naomi nodded. "I apologize for not mentioning this earlier, but if you allow me, I can take a brief glimpse into your memory—specifically anything related to the school or anything useful that could help me find the right location. The process won't affect time at all."
She took a step closer, explaining further. "Here's how it works: I place my hands on either side of your head, and you focus on the specific memory you want me to see. I'll be able to use that as a guide."
"Of course, I can do that," Nezu said with a nod. "I'm ready when you are."
Naomi nodded in return, then bent down, gently placing her hands on either side of his head. She let her magic flow carefully, allowing her mind to sync with his. Images began to surface—memories, locations, details she needed.
With the vision clear in her mind, she took a breath and spoke with unwavering focus:
"Rift of the unseen, tear through space,
Open the gate to a distant place.
Through void and shadow, bend my way,
Let the worlds shift at my say."
As the final words left her lips, a glowing magic circle materialized before them, its intricate patterns pulsing with energy. A gust of wind spiraled outward, swirling with glimmering specks of light. The air crackled as space itself bent, and in an instant, a shimmering portal formed before their eyes.
"All right, it's ready," Naomi announced.
"Let's get this mission started," Mirajane said, picking up her and Naomi's luggage—though Laxus quickly offered to carry it for her.
"Thank you again for your help," Principal Nezu said.
"Be careful, my children," Makarov advised as the team stepped through the portal.
Musutafu, Japan
At U.A. High, Mr. Aizawa paced anxiously. Principal Nezu had been missing for over an hour. He was about to call the authorities when his phone rang.
"All Might?" he answered hastily. "Have you seen Principal Nezu?"
"No, but I heard about the incident. Are you saying he's missing?" All Might asked.
"Yes. He was nearby one moment, then gone the next," Aizawa explained. Suddenly, a bright light appeared before him, and he instinctively dropped into a defensive stance.
From the light stepped Principal Nezu, followed by several unfamiliar figures.
"Ah, Mr. Aizawa," Nezu said, unbothered by the teacher's stunned expression. "We have much to discuss."
Still processing, Aizawa muttered, "This is going to be a long night."
